SPRO, One of San Francisco’s Best Coffee Shops, Just Planted Its Flag in Civic Center | Eater SF

"Previously located off Golden Gate Avenue but now gone, Fluid Coffee’s absence is noted alongside other closures as part of why SPRO is seen as the new caffeine dealer on this side of the Tenderloin." - Paolo Bicchieri

Honestly the fact your milk alternative is sweetened is a huge point of contention for me. I’m on keto and though dietary preference shouldn’t matter, I had my diabetic friend over and she doesn’t do dairy so we couldn’t visit your coffee shop because of it. Considering people’s preferences and needs is something to consider because there is a coffee shop opening across the street from you and if they’re able to better accommodate people, they’ll be more successful

Google
Go-to for all things pick-me-up. And for my GF friends, they have gluten free breakfast "hot pockets" which are really these beautifully crafted empanadas

Lucy M.

Google
Fluid was such a cute place to visit. The latte i got was perfect and tasted delicious. It was the perfect level of vanilla without being too overpowering. The barista who was working was super nice and we had a great conversation! They answered every question i had which is super nice

Today was my first visit to Fluid Coffee Bar. I went to the one on Stout Street. I had no idea there was another one, until just now, as I was looking up information on it. Will have to check the other one out at some point. The one on Stout is in downtown Denver. It’s at the base of a tall building. Love the art at the back end of the shop. The mocha was tasty. The lady barista did some gorgeous latte art, but I wasn’t able to capture a shot, before she put a lid on it. Service is friendly and fast.

Google
Great little spot on the corner of the street. Good vibes, not overcome by the millennial gray and whitewashing that so many coffee shops have no. Their drip coffee is really good! They also had lots of fun flavors and cold brew. Good seating and good atmosphere. I got a chorizo breakfast burrito too that hit the spot. $10 for a coffee and burrito is not bad in this economy!!!

Google
Beautiful little place with a lovely atmosphere. Felt safe. Their selection looks excellent, tho I haven't been here long enough to experience it all.

Google
This cafe has got the cutest sayings & an outdoor to go place which is perfecttt for the to go’er!! Spacious, friendly staff + saturated w/art, a fireplace + a co-working station in the back!!

Google
Rachel is really nice and the nickerdoodle coffee is delicious! They don’t take scan pay but they have a QR code for ordering and paying.

Yelp
This place's currently having solid 4-star reviews is a bit of an overhype to me. At least I wasn't impressed with it when I utilized the business. The Cold Brew of the Day was some fruity one (at least that was how it was described by the female barista upon ordering.) She was probably the best element of my experience today as she was pleasantly answered my questions. My cold brew didn't have any fruity flavor profile in it at all. It was actually a bit boring as there were no distinct characteristics to it. The male worker who was nice to me (as I occasionally interacted with) had his buddies at the bar seating. They were obnoxiously and loudly talking to each other which distracted my little me time while I was reading a book. The store was okay-ish clean but they can pay a bit more attention to its cleanliness; for some reason, I felt that the place is a little run down because of some cracked and/or missing tiles on the floor. Not sure if I will return. 3- star is the best I can give to this place

Yelp
Grabbed a cold brew to go. It was pretty mediocre and tasted pretty burnt. This place kind of gives convince store vibes but had quite a few folks posted up working or chatting with friends. Probably wouldn't recommend as a spot to hang out but it looks like they have lots of breakfast burritos if you're in a pinch downtown.

Yelp
What a fun place! Stopped in while apartment-hunting with my daughter. She had a very yummy iced coffee with delicious things mixed in. Unfortunately I didn't listen to her order, but I did try her coffee. The baristas were so friendly and cheerful! A very welcoming vibe. Nice atmosphere with tables, chairs, a sofa, and local art for sale! Unfortunately, she won't be living on this block because the leasing agents at Uptown Square refused to show her an apartment because we were late. She found another apartment instead.

Yelp
I decided to try fluid out because I wanted to work from a coffee shop. I ordered a breakfast burrito, and it was pretty tasty. The space is big inside and they could use more tables. They have computer chairs for guests, which is kind of funny.

Yelp
Worst Coffee Shop Experience Ever Hands down the rudest staff I've ever encountered. From the moment I walked in, it felt like I was inconveniencing them by existing. No greeting, just eye-rolls and attitude. I asked a simple question about the menu and got snapped at like I was wasting their precious time. As for the coffee? Utter garbage -- watered down, burnt, and somehow still overpriced. This place clearly survives on clueless foot traffic, because no one in their right mind would come back after being treated like dirt and served a cup of trash. Save your time, money, and sanity -- go anywhere else

Kalei B.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this coffee shop, but after two visits with inconsistent quality, I think it's best to look elsewhere. The service must be hit or miss. During my first visit, the staff seemed dismissive and unwelcoming. On my second visit, however, both baristas were friendly, which was a nice experience. On my first visit, I ordered an iced caramel latte with whole milk and the green chili burrito (which was recommended by staff). The latte was okay overall, but the espresso tasted slightly sour and the milk had an off aftertaste that I couldn't get past, so I didn't end up finishing it. The burrito had a strong freezer-burned taste, which made it hard to eat. Their salsa is good.. however the freezer taste overpowered that. I know the burritos are sourced from another vendor, so storage may be the issue, but unfortunately it affected the quality. I decided to give the shop another chance and ordered something simple on my second visit: a hot chocolate with oat milk this time since the whole milk last time was iffy. Super simple and basic. Can't really mess that up? Unfortunately, it tasted like lukewarm oat milk with barely any flavor. After both visits, I wouldn't recommend this place. I really wanted to support the neighborhood business but there are better options in the area with more consistent quality.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Fluid and we really liked the ambiance. There's a cool little business center in the back of the building, but I'm not sure if it's open to the public or not. The barista was very friendly and they had gluten free goodies! We tried an M&M style cookie that was delicious. Unfortunately, my Americano wasn't very good. It was bitter and burnt tasting. My son's hot chocolate was very watery too. I'd give them another chance if I was in the area though, because I liked everything else about this coffee shop.
google avatar

Meg S.

Yelp
Super cute place! The coffee tasted high quality and came out in such a short time. Also had the raspberry croissant, and needless to say I was obsessed. It's placed in such a cute area and I love their half indoor/outdoor patio. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because the chairs are a little uncomfortable. Otherwise I really enjoyed it!

Maddie H.

Yelp
Please don't go here!!! I live nearby so I have tried to give this place a chance many times but recently I have had grey hairs in the pastries I have bought and have seen a lot of mice running around the shop (the workers see it to and don't care). The coffee itself is not great it's very artificial tasting and the shop is grimy overall.
google avatar

Logan P.

Yelp
I had the barista recommend a coffee and she didn't disappoint. The pistachio latte with honey might be my new go to. The service was great and had a quick turnaround.
google avatar

Alissa W.

Yelp
Food Yes. Service the sweetest. Ambiance 5 stars. there are no dogs allowed inside. Yay!! the chais are smooth and the foods are fresh!. Thank you!
google avatar

Jerry O.

Yelp
Nice latte and cold brew here. Smooth coffee flavor in both. That's what we love about coffee - the smooth, delicious flavor
google avatar

Jimi B.

Yelp
The service was great and my latte was perfect temp and taste. Definitely recommend. The shop itself is a little small but had plenty of seats so you could definitely stay and work on your laptop if you needed a change of scenery.
google avatar

Patches O.

Yelp
IDK how they do it but they have the most consistently miserable staff. Arguing with customers, arguing with fellow employees. It's fucking overpriced coffee. Not that deep.
google avatar

Lucy D.

Yelp
This place is a block away from my apartment and is so cute and the coffee is so good. Everyone is always so kind and service is quick. favorite local cofeee place.

Yelp
If you are an Australian in Denver looking for a flat white - look no further than Fluid Coffee Bar in Magnolia Hotel. Fantastic smooth coffee , well up to fussy Australian standards. The Barista has a great sense of humour and very friendly. We went there daily for a week and it was consistently good quality.
google avatar

Marielle F.

Yelp
My favorite vanilla latte is made here. They put something in the coffee that makes me want to chug it in 2 sips. Also have great gf options - quiche is yum.
google avatar

Corinne B.

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming to Fluid for years and it is consistently the best coffee in Denver. They have yummy treats too (try the pumpkin chocolate chip bread!). It's a cute neighborhood coffee shop, not fancy or pretentious. The staff are so kind and friendly, and it feels like they actually care, not just about the coffee, but about their patrons too.
google avatar

Elise H.

Yelp
Super cute location with great staff. I just wish they were more eco-friendly (paperless checkout system, small discounts for bringing your own cup, etc)
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
Came in for the first time today! Got a caramel iced latte and a green chili burrito. I loved my iced coffee, I got a large and it was $7.00. The burrito was $6.00 and pretty good! It wasn't super green chili forward, I'll probably try another "flavor" next time I go back. The salsa is a must if you are getting the burrito, it's a bit dry without it. I loved the aesthetic of the inside and the order came out fast! I'll be back!

Yelp
---------------- Good spot to get a coffee, cheaper than the average coffee shops in Denver. My favorite coffee is the iced Snickerdoodle. They go fast in placing the order, and always friendly with the costumers. Overall once of the better coffee shops in uptown area when we talk about quality/price.

Yelp
Walked uphill (one way) in the cold for coffee. I hate giving bad reviews, but real life isn't always puppy's and sunshine. Came in for coffee and food, and the staff were very friendly. The decor is Denver funkey (not our scene). We ordered both quiches and a couple of mochas. Because of the milk, the drinks were lukewarm at best (baristas should be cognizant of this). The quiches had good flavor but were soggy, so the crusts were not crisp. Overall, I would not come back here.

Yelp
This is a perfect example of why American coffee culture is so bad. I had to wait 15 minutes to get an espresso, and it wasn't even decent. It's slow, expensive, and full of itself. Thankfully the baristas where nice and friendly, but the coffee is awful.
google avatar

Caitlan W.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday for a quick afternoon pick me up on my way to downtown. Delicious iced coffee! Quick service and a neat spot to work or hang out in.
google avatar

Rachael M.

Yelp
The oat milk latte was very mediocre - the espresso had almost no taste and I was disappointed. However, the staff was very friendly and the service was quick!
google avatar

Alysa F.

Yelp
The drinks are just ehhh, I ended up throwing mine away. The atmosphere is severely lacking. The seating is not meant for long term use and is very uncomfortable and awkward. The service was fast. So that's a plus.

Alejandra R.

Yelp
Great coffee and food! The only thing is that is not easy to find parking. Nice place!
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
This place is nice and relaxing. Didn't like the fact that the coffee shop does not carry matcha lattes. Bummer. Was looking forward to that drink. Instead, I grabbed a refreshing lemon ginger kombucha drink. Good to chat with friends or study.
google avatar

Melanie B.

Yelp
The service was great! The location was great.. the coffee.. not so much unfortunately. My husband actually poured his out.. maybe he got a bad batch. Maybe it was burnt... he just refused to drink it. The girls were so cool and sweet. I told him to tell them and they would make it right but I had just went up and did the same thing so he refused. I wasn't a huge fan either but I drank it. Everyone seems to like it because everyone we saw had a cup to go... lots of dogs in the hood and street parking. Board games and ole ty of seating inside. I like the 50cent humor!! I just wish the coffee was good. We should have ordered a specialty coffee. This is one. Offer place you can go to in downtown Denver without dealing with homeless folks sleeping outside or lots of smoke. We were staying at the Grand Hyatt and had to venture this way for clean safe food and java spots! Next time we will order off the menu instead of being basic black coffee folks!
google avatar

Laidback L.

Yelp
While waiting for my drink this morning, I heard one of the male staff members make a racial slur to a co-worker behind the bar and I am appalled. With your typical, washed up baristas who couldn't hack it in any other service job, I am not surprised. This type of interaction makes me question the integrity of whoever hired them and disgusted by this business as a whole. With everything that has happened, I didn't think I would ever see this type of carelessness in a city like Denver of all places. Never coming here again.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
This was a great local coffee shop. My best friend just moved into the apartment down the street and hadn't yet gotten a coffee maker so I was desperate for some coffee and stumbled across this place. I was shocked to see how crowded it was at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday! I just got their regular Ethiopian blend but it was delicious! They serve the coffee in biodegradable cups, which I always appreciate as well. I didn't actually try any of their food, but it looked like they had some good stuff. I could also tell that there were a lot of local regulars there. The woman working at the counter asked the man ahead of me if he wanted "the usual" and that is always a comfort!
google avatar

Rach B.

Yelp
The iced squirrel is the best thing on the menu! Good service but the breakfast burrito is just alright.
google avatar

Brittney C.

Yelp
My friend took me here because this is his favorite coffee spot. And it was close to his house in Uptown. First, I'd like to mention that the service was great. I love when the team remembers your name and even better when they remember your drink. I don't drink much dairy or coffee. My typical staple is a chai latte. The barista recommended their spicier chai because their regular sweeter chai contained dairy in it. I got it with almond milk. It was quite delicious. My friend got a freshly made cinnamon roll. It was very good. We sat outside and enjoyed their patio because my friend brought his dog. It's a great place to people watch and be in the shade. I also like that they are environmentally conscious by encouraging patrons to recycle their sleeves. All in all, I know I will be back. Maybe in the winter and I can try a hot chocolate or cider. Drinks: 4.5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
google avatar

Yelp
Cinnamon bomb is everything I wanted and needed. Like a soy horchata smoothie with coffee!! They grilled the green Chile breakfast burrito to perfection. Got a day old $1 chocó muffin to nibble on for dessert. Yum. Haven't tried the berry black kombucha yet but I know it's going to be good sh*t.

Yelp
I was really excited to find this coffee bar at the bottom of the Magnolia Hotel where I was staying during my work trip in Denver. I tried both the featured cold brew and espresso macchiato during my stay and they both tasted great. For eats, they have a wide array of packaged things. One morning, I decided to try the green chile breakfast burrito which they pressed and warmed for me. It was so good! I forget the exact spot where these come from but it's somewhere in Boulder. The coffee and burrito came to less than $10 which was wonderful. To top it all off, the staff was very friendly even at the earliest hours of the day. There's wifi and plenty of seating. I would definitely come back and recommend it for anyone look for a caffeine fix downtown.

Don M.

Yelp
Open early Saturday morning downtown so that's a plus. Slim food offerings but a great latte and a tasty quiche which was all I needed. The decor was a bit rustic but that's fine with me. Would recommend.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
They have the best dirty chai latte. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting great coffee.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Tasty coffee and baked treats. This place was rated as a great place to work from a coffee shop. Have to respectfully disagree with that assessment. If you have to take a call as part of your work, it's the wrong choice. We ended up taking our order to go because of the noise volume. Would definitely come back for coffee. But not if there's a chance of having to take a work call. The four star rating is based off the quality of the coffee shop. Not recommended for remote working though.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Fluid replaced the franchised Starbucks coffee shop that was in the Magnolia Hotel previously. It's the same lay out but much better quality. I am not hating, I actually like the bucks. I have had coffee, hot coco and lattes. Latte art on everything! Creamy milk and mugs if you order for here. They also serve some foods: cookies, burritos, salads and random stuff. I had vegan spring rolls here! I also like that they sell magnets. Yay magnets.... yay coffee, yay wine, etc. Lots of seating but only a couple comfy chairs. I am so glad it opened and look forward to my delicious foam with latte art.
google avatar

Kayla K.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Denver! I started coming here five years ago and have taken many out of town and local friends here since and they all love it. Everything I've ever gotten here is great but I am a big fan of their chai. My favorite drink is the dirty chai latte which is a chai latte with a shot of espresso. When I'm not looking for as much caffeine I'll go with the regular chai latte. I have spent a lot of hours doing work, studying, and reading here. There is a back room that groups can book for meetings but when it is not booked it makes a great workspace. There are lots of healthy food options to fuel the hours of work. There are couches and places to cozy up with friends. You can enjoy a good conversations over a great cup of coffee or partake in one of the games they have available.
google avatar

Yelp
When I travel for work, once I get to my hotel, I unpack and figure out where I am getting coffee in the morning. I know better than to drink the decaying packages of coffee in my hotel room to make with the $9 coffee maker. No, thank you. The coffee in the lobby? I am sure a kid has licked each item at that coffee bar. No, I am fine doing a quick Yelp search for the nearest and greatest coffee in the area. Fluid popped up as being, basically, around the corner from my hotel after this search, so I headed on over. Fluid is in a fairly nice looking, fairly new, fairly modern, fairly clean building. What is great is that when you head inside, it is a really cute local coffee shop with art on the walls and a great selection of to-go beverages. Similar to all of those local, salt-of-the-earth coffee shops, the service was not warm, but it was efficient. That is all I need it to be, so I was satisfied. I ordered an almond milk latte (so many coffee shops don't even carry almond milk-- bonus) and it was excellent. Nice work, Fluid. Stop on by. It will be a nice, quick break in your morning to get a good cup of joe.
google avatar

Yelp
You can tell a lot about a coffee bar by their espresso. It's very easy to make a pour-over cup at home. It's even easier to brew in a french press. And clover coffee--really more of a gimmick than a superior method of brewing. But when the staff at a coffee joint know how to pull a great shot of espresso, then you can be pretty sure they know what's what when it comes to coffee preparation. So I'm in Denver for a conference and one of my colleagues tells me that I "must" try Fluid Coffee Bar on the other side of town. It might be a trek to get out there, but it is "worth it"--so he says. Was it worth it? Well, the espresso was very blonde, which could mean anything from a poor grind to over-extraction of the beans. It was also very bitter. But was it better than getting espresso at the convention hall coffee stand? You betcha! So, worth it? Maybe. I also thought about buying a bag of their NOVO beans to try back home, but all of their supposedly "fresh roasted" coffee beans were well past a week old. I'll pass on that. I give this place a generous 3 stars because of the cool ambiance, and also because, even though they are definitely not up to par with the likes of coffee bars in SF, Portland, Seattle or NYC, they might just be one of the best options in Denver.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
When I was last at Fluid I couldn't help but notice how many people were there to study. The place was pretty packed, but hardly noisy which was a little strange for me because often times I'm in coffee shops that are quiet, but empty or full and have lots of buzz from talking. It was nice. And so were the workers. I had an americano which is pretty much my staple and it was really good. Sometimes I get them and they just taste burnt, but that wasn't the case here. The whole shop is crowded with stuff - flyers for local events, 6 computers you can use to browse the web if you didn't bring your own and the aforementioned crowd. So if you are one of those people that enjoy clean lines and sparse spaces you may not feel comfortable in here. But, if you enjoy a homey environment and plush couches as well as tables then you'll likely fit right in. And the wi-fi is free. Sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
Fluid has a lot of the characteristics I like in a coffee bar. First and foremost, they have good coffee. They have ceramic mugs for those sticking around, and they encourage reuse and recycling of the takeout cup jackets. They have a recycling bin. They have free wifi for customers. They even offer Internet terminals for a fee. The food options are fine. They've got pastries, some stuff from Udi's, and even vegan options. I'm not a vegan, but I appreciate options. They've also got seating options: stools at a counter, tables, & sofas. There's even a fireplace. There are also lots of games on hand if you want to spend some fun time with friends. All those elements add up to a perfectly nice place to chat with friends, get some work done, or simply enjoy a caffeinated beverage.

Yelp
If you're looking to GET THINGS DONE (tm), this is the place. As soon as I walked in, I knew this coffee shop would engender a wealth of productivity. The space is definitely fun. Bright, happy colors. A black ceiling framework--perhaps hinting at a previous life as an office--revealing cheery pipes beyond. But, most importantly, it's quiet! There is a more social space in the first room with cozy chairs and music, but the second room is intended to be a workspace with big tables and super quiet comrades. I love this dynamic. It can be whatever you need it to be! You can float between the spaces and accomplish your separate missions of socialization and work-a-holism. Or, if you are singularly focused, you can sprawl out on a giant wooden table, take off your shoes, and dig your toes into the furry rug while making progress on a thesis proposal. I enjoyed the cold brew "rocks," which the kindly barista explained is cold brewed coffee served espresso style on ice. And a day-old raisin bran muffin for $1. Thank you for not throwing out your old pastries; there are cheapos like me who want them real bad!!! I was there for a long time, so later got some Elderberry Hibiscus Kombucha which I thought would be a Boulder-style cure to my sickness (spoiler alert: it did not help) and a veggie burrito that was served with love. Nothing special, but maybe if you're into Kombucha, you'd be excited about this sort of thing. There are a wealth of food options, including Udi's sandwiches, local burritos, house pastries, and so on. An ample selection, indeed. Oh, and best wifi yet! I'll definitely be back again when I need to GET THINGS DONE (tm).

Yelp
There is nothing and I mean nothing quite like a local neighborhood coffee shop that serves outstanding customer service and beverages. My first foray into Fluid was this past week. I am a huge fan of Chai but like it spicy and not terribly sweet which can be tricky to find. I asked for the spiciest, least sweet chai and was stoked when I was told they offered a non spicy unsweetened Chai. I went with that in the soy option and was perfectly content. The space itself offers a hip trendy vibe, complete with composting and recycling along with many tables to work from. I settled into one of the tables and worked while listening to the latest Gwen Stefani album they were playing. This is a fantastic addition to the Uptown area and close to my new job so I will be back many times!

Yelp
Fluid coffee bar has great coffee and a great space for working. This coffee shop is setup as a meeting/work space and really caters to the professionals who enjoy going to a coffee house to work. First, their coffee is great! I had a latte and a cafe au lait and both were very good, smooth, and rich. Fluid uses NOVO beans. I have no idea what these are but the coffee I had was very good. I also had a scone and I was not impressed by its quality. I have the impression that there isn't sufficient turnover of the baked goods, or maybe it's just the dry Denver air, but the scone was kind of dried out despite being wrapped in plastic. I cannot recommend the baked goods. The meeting spaces at Fluid are really a gem and are some of the best I have ever seen at a coffee shop. This shop is setup to hold meetings of any type. You can reserve the meeting spaces online. Additionally, they have computers available for those without one of their own. I am not sure of the costs, but I did notice a sign allowing you to print for various prices. Of course, the WiFi is excellent. In addition to the meeting spaces that include several rooms and seating arrangements (stools at bars, tables and chairs of various sizes, and sofas; and tables and chairs outside as well) the shop also has a beautiful fireplace with mosaic tiles laid atop it. In sum, Fluid is a great place to work and enjoy a nice coffee.

Yelp
I am not a big coffee drinker but I was getting a massage at Herbin Alchemy around the corner and I was early for my appointment so I had time to kill. This place was easy to find and way bigger than I thought it would be. Also way busier than I thought as well! I walked in and ordered a White Chocolate Mocha for here and it came out so pretty! It was also really, really good! I got on their wifi and did some work while I enjoyed my drink. The atmosphere was great but it was so crowded it was hard to find somewhere to sit. I ended up finding a couch in the back by the printer. Speaking of which, you can print there which is pretty cool! After I finished it, I had no idea if I was supposed to clear my own table or what so I asked a barista and they told me exactly what to do. So nice! Prices are great too! Way better than Starbucks prices and supporting local businesses is the way to go!

Yelp
Fluid has tons of space, lots of power, and good coffee. The decor is bright and lively, full of color and happiness. Even during busy hours, I've had no problem finding space - especially when I'm alone, but even meeting a friend for coffee is generally no problem. The neighborhood is great as well, and they have a nice event space that I imagine is great for gatherings of all kinds. I see all kinds of people tapping away on their laptops when I'm there, so I'll imagine that it's perfect for working on your stuff. Personally, I can't work effectively without at least two large monitors, otherwise I'd give it a shot. Maybe you should!
