The New Generation of Entrepreneurs Giving Kolkata’s Heritage Buildings a Fresh Start

"The chefs pop out to say hello. This vibe carries across to the neighboring lanes, where an ever-growing list of cafés includes Flurys, which sits inside a turn-of-the-century home with curved balconies, bright pink khorkhoris, and a Parisian-style terrace to become one of the most photographed corners in the neighborhood."

The 31 Best Restaurants in Kolkata (Calcutta), India | Eater

"This iconic Park Street tearoom and bakery was established in 1927 by Swiss expats Joseph and Freida Flury and their compatriot Quinto Cinzio Trinca. It has become one of Kolkata’s most iconic eateries and continues to do brisk business with heritage platters of baked beans on toast and English breakfast. Flurys has expanded its menu over the years, but the original items, marked on the menu, are still the best. Come Christmas, the place is swamped with patrons who queue up for the bakery’s rich, spiced plum cakes. Other must-trys are the inimitable chicken patties (flaky domes of puff pastry packed with minced meat stuffing) and strawberry cubes (crumby sponge layered with buttercream beneath a sugary crust of pink strawberry icing)." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

A local’s guide to eating in Kolkata, India - SilverKris

"A long-running Park Street tea room dating back to 1927 that blends a sleeker, updated menu with enduring traditional pastries and breakfasts; must-tries include decadent chocolate rum balls, almond cube pastries, and light-as-air milk bread used for eggs, toast and sandwiches. The spot produces its own tea blends, is popular enough that patrons often take pastries overseas for homesick relatives, and a window seat is recommended for tea and people-watching on busy Park Street." - SilverKris

This was our first visit to Kolkata, and we had heard so much about Flurys. We truly enjoyed the Darjeeling tea, pineapple cube, and rum ball — all were delightful! By mistake, the teapot lid slipped from my uncle’s hand, but the staff at Flurys handled the situation with utmost grace. They were extremely kind and thoughtful, promptly cleaning the area and reassuring us without asking for any compensation. We were touched by their warmth and professionalism, and we gladly tipped the staff in appreciation. A memorable experience — thank you, Flurys!

Flurys is truly a classic! This iconic bakery that started in Kolkata definitely lives up to its name. I visited during Durga Puja, and the ambience was warm, festive, and beautifully decorated. It had such an authentic charm. We ordered two breakfast meals, and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich yet subtle, not too spicy, and perfectly balanced. The Darjeeling tea they served was so refreshing, the ideal way to start the day. Although it’s slightly on the costlier side, the quality and taste make it completely worth it. Overall, a lovely experience with great food, great vibe, and a must-visit if you enjoy classic breakfast spots with a touch of nostalgia.

👍 Positives: • Heritage charm since 1927, not like your regular cafe. • Cool ambience with a vintage tearoom vibe. • Famous for English breakfast, pastries, and rum balls. 👎 Negatives: • Not a place for everyday food or quick snacks. • Quite expensive compared to other cafés. • Service can be slow during rush hours.

Flury's is a legendary bakery and tearoom on Kolkata's Park Street, founded in 1927 by a Swiss couple, known for its traditional European confections, pastries, chocolates, and custom cakes. The brand has become an iconic part of the city's culture, serving as a popular destination for both locals and tourists. This restaurant maintain it's rich legacy through out the decades and they holds the best position in hospitality. Food is good and top notch.

The menu is fantastic, offering a wonderful variety of treats, from creamy shakes to delicious sundaes. Everything I've tried has been top-notch, made with high-quality ingredients and a lot of care. The staff is always friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. It's the perfect spot to satisfy your sweet tooth and a must-visit for anyone looking for a great dessert.

Flurys is a very well-known bakery shop and enjoys a long history! But over the years slowly lost its charm a bit. But offlate it has regained it's lost glory! They refurbished the shop, added many new attractive items backed up with very polite and effective stuffs . It's a treat to visit the shop for food lovers and even for discerning tourists !

Been there, done that & will do it again. The service is excellent. Flurys breakfast is as iconic and historic as Kolkata. Loved their hot brewed coffee, French toasts & the ambience.

The food is good, but expensive for what you get (I knew that going in)... But r200 for a small cup of Pepsi?! Ouch ha ha It is good for tourists but seems to be resting on its reputation. I enjoyed it well enough but would not go back.
