The New Generation of Entrepreneurs Giving Kolkata’s Heritage Buildings a Fresh Start

"The chefs pop out to say hello. This vibe carries across to the neighboring lanes, where an ever-growing list of cafés includes Flurys, which sits inside a turn-of-the-century home with curved balconies, bright pink khorkhoris, and a Parisian-style terrace to become one of the most photographed corners in the neighborhood."

The 31 Best Restaurants in Kolkata (Calcutta), India | Eater

"This iconic Park Street tearoom and bakery was established in 1927 by Swiss expats Joseph and Freida Flury and their compatriot Quinto Cinzio Trinca. It has become one of Kolkata’s most iconic eateries and continues to do brisk business with heritage platters of baked beans on toast and English breakfast. Flurys has expanded its menu over the years, but the original items, marked on the menu, are still the best. Come Christmas, the place is swamped with patrons who queue up for the bakery’s rich, spiced plum cakes. Other must-trys are the inimitable chicken patties (flaky domes of puff pastry packed with minced meat stuffing) and strawberry cubes (crumby sponge layered with buttercream beneath a sugary crust of pink strawberry icing)." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

Flurys is definitely a beautiful place with a nice vibe and good ambience. It has that old charm which makes it special, and it’s great for spending some time with friends or family. But honestly, when it comes to food, it feels quite average compared to the price they charge. The items look tempting but taste-wise they don’t really match the hype. It’s not bad, but definitely not worth the premium you pay. So, for me, it’s more of a place to enjoy the atmosphere rather than the food.

👍 Positives: • Heritage charm since 1927, not like your regular cafe. • Cool ambience with a vintage tearoom vibe. • Famous for English breakfast, pastries, and rum balls. 👎 Negatives: • Not a place for everyday food or quick snacks. • Quite expensive compared to other cafés. • Service can be slow during rush hours.

Flurry's is an absolute delight! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu is fantastic, offering a wonderful variety of treats, from creamy shakes to delicious sundaes. Everything I've tried has been top-notch, made with high-quality ingredients and a lot of care. The staff is always friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. It's the perfect spot to satisfy your sweet tooth and a must-visit for anyone looking for a great dessert.

English Breakfast was wholesome and awesome. Flury’s is not only a bakery but it is nostalgia also! As a child would love having the milkshakes (strawberry and chocolate). Today after decades went for breakfast and it was a pleasure

I have tried veg patty and cold coffee. Those items were tasty but little bit expensive. The restaurant's ambience was good and staff were very supportive. Here I felt very nostalgic.

The place has a great vibe, we went there atleast thrice during our three day trip to Kolkata recently. I usually prefer chocolate based desserts but their rumball looked very tempting. It's worth a try! Frankly, their Savory dishes are better than desserts, our chicken stroganoff was superb.

A very aesthetically decorated & pleasing place with overrated food. The pricing food is justifiable only because portion size is large. The taste is not exceptional. Half of its craze is due to its famous English breakfast and the nostalgia around it but even then the prices are a little high. Pastries are just unreasonably highly priced, you can get the same things with the same/better quality with much lower prices at other places in Kolkata. The coffee & especially affogato was great 👍🏻 Highly visit during Christmas or better on New Year's Day to ditch the crowd & enjoy the decorations in peace. It generally is always bustling and busy with crowds at nearly all hours of the day.
