The New Generation of Entrepreneurs Giving Kolkata’s Heritage Buildings a Fresh Start

"The chefs pop out to say hello. This vibe carries across to the neighboring lanes, where an ever-growing list of cafés includes Flurys, which sits inside a turn-of-the-century home with curved balconies, bright pink khorkhoris, and a Parisian-style terrace to become one of the most photographed corners in the neighborhood."

The 31 Best Restaurants in Kolkata (Calcutta), India | Eater

"This iconic Park Street tearoom and bakery was established in 1927 by Swiss expats Joseph and Freida Flury and their compatriot Quinto Cinzio Trinca. It has become one of Kolkata’s most iconic eateries and continues to do brisk business with heritage platters of baked beans on toast and English breakfast. Flurys has expanded its menu over the years, but the original items, marked on the menu, are still the best. Come Christmas, the place is swamped with patrons who queue up for the bakery’s rich, spiced plum cakes. Other must-trys are the inimitable chicken patties (flaky domes of puff pastry packed with minced meat stuffing) and strawberry cubes (crumby sponge layered with buttercream beneath a sugary crust of pink strawberry icing)." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

A very aesthetically decorated & pleasing place with overrated food. The pricing food is justifiable only because portion size is large. The taste is not exceptional. Half of its craze is due to its famous English breakfast and the nostalgia around it but even then the prices are a little high. Pastries are just unreasonably highly priced, you can get the same things with the same/better quality with much lower prices at other places in Kolkata. The coffee & especially affogato was great 👍🏻 Highly visit during Christmas or better on New Year's Day to ditch the crowd & enjoy the decorations in peace. It generally is always bustling and busy with crowds at nearly all hours of the day.

Flurys Park Street serves a classic American Breakfast that’s simple, satisfying, and true to its legacy. The juicy sausages, perfectly done eggs, hash browns, and buttered toast make for a hearty plate. Their freshly brewed coffee complements the meal perfectly. The ambience is elegant and nostalgic, adding charm to the experience. It’s slightly pricey, but worth it for the quality and the vibe.

Cakes were great and so was the food. However what really impressed me was the black coffee. The richness of flavor was not something I’ve had in the US even after tasting countless imported coffees. Good atmosphere as well, seems like it’s a very popular place to go to.

Recently stopped by this iconic spot for some desserts and tried the cheesecake. It was tasty, though I found it a bit pricey for the quality. Looking forward to returning soon for their breakfast — it’s been a while! That’s usually my go-to occasion here. When it comes to desserts, I’d probably stick with my usual favorites like the lemon tart or one of their pastries.

Perfect place to enjoy a good breakfast in Kolkata. Loved dining with them, the service was great and kind to guide through the menu and recommend house specials and customized coffee for me. The vibe of this place is elegant right out of some Romantic English movies.

We went to this place for their famous breakfast. We ordered ₹1300/- non-veg breakfast platter. The food is simply disappointing. Neither the quality nor the quantity match the price. It's at best a ₹500-600 plate. Service is equally pathetic. They give a really small bowl of fruits, which has three or four small pieces of pineapple. But the outer layer was not removed properly. I asked them to replace it. They did that but the new slices had the same issue. So much for such a famous restaurant. I'll never go there again.
