The New Generation of Entrepreneurs Giving Kolkata’s Heritage Buildings a Fresh Start

"The chefs pop out to say hello. This vibe carries across to the neighboring lanes, where an ever-growing list of cafés includes Flurys, which sits inside a turn-of-the-century home with curved balconies, bright pink khorkhoris, and a Parisian-style terrace to become one of the most photographed corners in the neighborhood."

The 31 Best Restaurants in Kolkata (Calcutta), India | Eater

"This iconic Park Street tearoom and bakery was established in 1927 by Swiss expats Joseph and Freida Flury and their compatriot Quinto Cinzio Trinca. It has become one of Kolkata’s most iconic eateries and continues to do brisk business with heritage platters of baked beans on toast and English breakfast. Flurys has expanded its menu over the years, but the original items, marked on the menu, are still the best. Come Christmas, the place is swamped with patrons who queue up for the bakery’s rich, spiced plum cakes. Other must-trys are the inimitable chicken patties (flaky domes of puff pastry packed with minced meat stuffing) and strawberry cubes (crumby sponge layered with buttercream beneath a sugary crust of pink strawberry icing)." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

A local’s guide to eating in Kolkata, India - SilverKris

"A long-running Park Street tea room dating back to 1927 that blends a sleeker, updated menu with enduring traditional pastries and breakfasts; must-tries include decadent chocolate rum balls, almond cube pastries, and light-as-air milk bread used for eggs, toast and sandwiches. The spot produces its own tea blends, is popular enough that patrons often take pastries overseas for homesick relatives, and a window seat is recommended for tea and people-watching on busy Park Street." - SilverKris

You can’t miss breakfast at flurys. It was dreamy during Christmas. Crowded yes but staff were very helpful and friendly. I had lots of desserts on Christmas loved the rum balls and a pretty good breakfast the very next day. Yes it’s not a place to miss when in Kolkata.

I visited Flurys on Park Street, Kolkata — because no Kolkata trip is complete without at least one stop at Flurys. This time, we ordered the bhetki fish fry with cappuccinos and both were absolutely heart-warming and fantastic. My son chose a double chocolate ice cream sundae, my daughter went for a chocolate brownie with ice cream, and my niece ordered a cold coffee with cheese-topped fries — all outstanding, as expected. Flurys on Park Street truly never disappoints. With it being Christmas time, the ambience was especially merry. The festive decorations added to the charm, and the patisserie was brimming with delicious fruitcakes, cookies, and other holiday treats, alongside their classic offerings. One of my all-time Flurys favorites is the baba cake, so I packed one to enjoy for breakfast the next day. My son, ever drawn to their chocolate creations, picked up a pastry, while my daughter chose a lemon tart. Overall, it’s always a joy to be at Flurys — filled with lovely childhood memories and lovely everything.

It is one of the legendary bakery since 1927 and it gives nostalgia to locals. The place was beautifully decorated during the Durga Puja and it looked so lovely. We didn’t try much here - just a dessert which was fine. Prices are slightly on higher side but definitely worth a visit atleast once if you are in Kolkata.

It's all time favourite for people staying in Kolkata. It's amazingly decorated during Christmas. They have huge varieties of dry cakes, pastry and bakery items. It's quite big with seating capacity for large crowd. It also serves English breakfast in morning. It's very crowded most of the year. It's very expensive compared to quantity though. We purchased Chocolate Brownie, Almond Honey Tart and Almond Foccacia. They all tastes very good.

The place is super crowded and one has to wait a while to get in. The queue management by the guard at the gate is fabulous. Once you get it, you know the wait was worth it. We had brunch here, it was excellent! Salad was very well made and French toast was adequately toasted and well balanced. The place is all decked up for Christmas 🙂 The hot chocolate was highly advertised but a disappointment as it was chocolate powder mixed in hot milk. Here’s a tip for the chef - try using fresh cream and real chocolate!

Flurys is truly a classic! This iconic bakery that started in Kolkata definitely lives up to its name. I visited during Durga Puja, and the ambience was warm, festive, and beautifully decorated. It had such an authentic charm. We ordered two breakfast meals, and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich yet subtle, not too spicy, and perfectly balanced. The Darjeeling tea they served was so refreshing, the ideal way to start the day. Although it’s slightly on the costlier side, the quality and taste make it completely worth it. Overall, a lovely experience with great food, great vibe, and a must-visit if you enjoy classic breakfast spots with a touch of nostalgia.

Amazing ambience with extremely helpful staff that took great pains to make us comfortable. The service was prompt. The food was as good as we hoped for. The entire atmosphere thanks to the Christmas revelry was seen to be believed. A memorable first experience Highly recommended
