First time I came here was back in May 2025, when I returned in January 2026, I noticed a lot of the same staff working here. That tells me they must be doing something right as a business if they are not only retaining employees, but keeping them happy too. I always come here to try something new and inspiring. I’m never disappointed by anything I’ve tried. Very creative drinks and atmosphere. I always leave satisfied.

Google
Such a cute little coffee shop with a great latte! I got their rare air signature drink and it was delicious. The espresso was not bitter or burnt like so many other coffee shops and the drink was not too overwhelmingly sweet. The service was super fast and kind even though they were quite busy on a Saturday morning. Will definitely stop by again next time I’m in Charlotte.

This was our first visit to The Bowl at Ballantyne. We were graciously greeted by Madison the owner of Fly Kid Fly. He told us about the name being a nod to the Wrights brothers who were the first men to fly a plane in North Carolina. I think that’s very cool! We enjoy our coffee and treat made by Whisk and Wood (supporting a local bakery). Check out my pics! Happy Exploring! Josephine Local Guide

I'm not from charlotte but love coming here whenever i'm in town. I always order the cumulus as my go to drin. it's so perfectly sweet and has a hint of coconut flavor which i love. I ordered a breakfast burrito which was pretty decent sized and super fast and filling. I would highly recommend! There's some seating on the inside but lots of seating outside

Google
Nice spot to grab a coffee or matcha during the week. The outdoor tables are a great touch, and they bring your order right to you. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this place to meet up with friends and enjoy a nice time.

Google
My new favorite coffee in Ballantyne. The espresso has a rich nutty taste without the bitter burnt after taste we’ve been getting used to from other places. My favorite order has been the vanilla latte, both hot and iced. The vanilla also very simple, doesn’t take like a store bought syrup. The menu is to the point, the pastry/ baked goods are good, but the coffee is the star of the show. Ample seating outside for nice weather days, limited seating indoors but cute work stations. Parking is general Bowl parking, some street, some lots but all free. Vegan and vegetarian options On the weekends there is a line out the door but don’t let that scare you I think the setup just limits ordering room inside.

This place is a vibe! It was super busy, so you know it’s good. The matcha was delicious, it didn’t disappoint. I let the man at the counter choose for me and I was happy! I’d go and sit in the sun in the open area, you won’t be sad about it!

Google
Really delicious coffee (iced latte with Japanese black sugar) and breakfast burrito. Staff were nice and aesthetic is fun and whimsical. Just wish there was more seating and power outlets!

Yelp
Went here since it was on my way home from running errands. I had their cumulus drink and it was really delicious. Definitely can taste a lot of the coconut. I am a huge matcha fan so I'm glad I was able to try this out. The service is good. It is in a busy area so hard to find parking sometimes. The ambiance, look their blue aesthetics. Really goes well with their drinks.

Yelp
This little coffee stand is super cute and served up a delicious iced matcha latte! Can't wait to come back to try other products!

Yelp
Other worldly vibes and a modern retro futurist ambiance. The people are amazing, with good energy. The coffee is some of the best in Charlotte. Malabar (ginger turmeric) herbal tea is also pretty amazing if you're into that. The espresso is delicious serving locally roasted beans from Hex. The location is pretty cool lots of dining nearby and open play spaces for kids.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee spot in a really neat area! My latte & bacon burrito were both equally delicious, made with love & care! Temperature was perfect. Friendly & efficient employees. Parking was a breeze, but it was also early on a Sunday morning. I imagine not the case otherwise. Prices are what you would expect, although the burrito was a bit pricey. I love the extra care with personalization of the orders & super cute branding.

Yelp
Such an amazing new coffee spot in Charlotte! The location is fantastic--Ballantyne finally has its own specialty coffee shop, and the whole area feels like a mini South End. The branding is on point--stylish, modern, and fun. The café itself is super inviting, with its bright yellow walls and blue accents that give off super cool vibes. The coffee is excellent. They use HEX beans, which I love, and the drinks are perfectly crafted with unique house flavors like ube cherry, orange cardamom, and blue spirulina--all balanced beautifully in sweetness. They also offer simple pastries like banana bread, muffins, and cookies, though I haven't had a chance to try them yet. One cool perk is their points system--it lets you earn free drinks faster than other coffee shops. Big kudos to the Ballantyne community for landing this incredible spot!

Yelp
Small coffee shop with iced and hot espresso drinks. I found the menu was limited. For example they told me they only offer homemade vanilla and mocha flavoring for drinks, and they don't offer whipped cream but can make a frothy foam "whip cream like" topping for drinks. I ordered an Americano and it was good. (I asked them to add the "whipped cream like" foam topping) The espresso had a smooth taste, it was not bitter and very bold in flavor. The homemade Vanilla was very good. So basically the limited menu resulted in a drink that I enjoyed. The service was friendly but I waited outside and enjoyed the weather while the store was filled with customers for at least 25 minutes. I wouldn't recommend ordering at this location if you are in a hurry, but then again it was on a weekend so maybe other times aren't as busy??

Yelp
I liked fly kid fly a lot! There isn't much space, especially when it's crowded (line will go out the door to form a queue) so I wouldn't pick this if you're looking for an indoor sit down space, there is outdoor seating however. the drinks were good and about standard for charlotte latte prices (think like $7). Cute decor and vibe

Yelp
Decided to check out this new coffee shop at the Bowl in Ballantyne! We were able to order quickly and decided on the cappuccino, vanilla latte and orange cranberry muffin. Service was quick for the vanilla latte and muffin. However, it took almost 10 minutes for the cappuccino which is a bit long considering the line wasn't really long. Vanilla latte was good, cappuccino a little strong and the muffin was just okay. Definitely wouldn't get the muffin again. The bakery is brought in from another bakery as I saw them taking items from the box to restock. They offer no flavors beyond vanilla and no creamers. If you're in the area, give them a try.

Yelp
I drove 3 hrs to try the Cumulus and let's just say it was worth the miles! The area is super cute, service amazing, and the Matcha was the best one I've had in the states. It was PERFECT!!!

Yelp
Went on a casual Tuesday morning! There was no line around 10 am and I was served quickly. The menu is simple which I like because I'm not a huge coffee drinker. I got their chai latte and it was perfect just how I like it. The location is in SUCH a cute and happening area. Tables outside to sit and shops and other restaurants to visit too. I felt the price was reasonable and I loved their vibe. I'd be back!

Yelp
So glad I got a chance to visit this coffee shop it was refreshing with a modern aesthetic, it's bright/welcoming and in a buzzing location close to other restaurants so it's perfect for a coffee chat that can turn into a night out. It's fairly new having only opened late last year but the quality and service were good. I enjoyed some of the unique drink options and the coffee was good quality. If you don't like coffee they also have tea as well as food options like breakfast burritos, brownies, muffins, scones, and cookies. This coffee shop isn't super comfy and cozy but there is a well lit seating area. If you go enjoy!

Yelp
Another new coffee shop opened in Charlotte NC...Yay! The lattes were good. There were 2 specialty hot lattes offered and several other menu items offered. There was only one size available and it was fairly small compared to the "grande" I usually get. There was not much indoor seating available and it was pretty chilly outside so we chose to stay inside. The inside area is small and pretty noisy. Overall the lattes were good but small and limited on flavor and milk options.

Yelp
came here with my little family on a friday morning and got a few drinks! they were served to us in a timely manner even with being a little busy! the drinks were yummy, the space outside was amazing! only con was it is small inside so it can feel crammed with little kids in tow

Yelp
So excited to have a new coffee option nearby. The staff was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. It's a small place so I could imagine it getting crowded in there if busy but it's still super cute and bright inside. My wife got an iced mocha was the perfect balance of sweetness and I got the cloudburst which was lovely. Looking to come back for sure!
google avatar

Joel L.

Yelp
Probably one of the best coffee spots in the area. Pretty unique selection but the area is very kid/dog friendly! Highly recommend the Cumulus and/or the Cloudburst!

Yelp
We stopped in just before they closed up on a busy Saturday. They were kind enough to still take our order with minutes to go. The coffee is so good, I'm partial to a vanilla latte. They were fast, and a kind crew of people. Wish I lived closer!

Yelp
I share this not as a flex, but as someone who has explored a large portion of the menu here. In just 24 hours, we spent $120 at this coffee shop (granted, we did purchase a mug too). During our visits, we tried a cappuccino, cortado, a "Cumulus," a "Last Flight Home" (both hot and iced), several bakery items, and the barbacoa and chorizo breakfast burritos. Here's our take on the place: This coffee shop feels like a destination for specialty drinks. Their "Last Flight Home" had a flavor reminiscent of a dirty chai (though it wasn't a chai) it was delicious! I recommend it hot though, the iced one wasn't as good. The "Cumulus" was hands-down the best matcha I've ever had. However, the cappuccino and cortado, while good, didn't leave much of an impression. As coffee connoisseurs, we found their classic espresso drinks to be a bit flat. The latte art was excellent, but they didn't quite stand out. Additionally, the lack of variety in syrups (only vanilla for classic drinks) left us wanting more. I'd suggest they experiment with house-made syrups to give latte lovers more options beyond the specialty menu. The breakfast burritos were solid but not exceptional. While they were generously sized and filling, the flavors didn't pop. Still, it's always appreciated when a coffee shop offers breakfast options. The pastries were great, with a large selection to choose from. I highly recommend the cinnamon pull-apart (ask for it warmed up; it's absolutely worth it.) This place feels relatively new, so I imagine they're still working out a few kinks. Overall, we loved their creativity with specialty drinks and think they have a good thing going! If you are thinking about coming, come!!

Melissa D.

Yelp
I have been to this place a few times now I guess just hoping I had caught them on an off day but the staff is about as unenthusiastic as they come and seem annoyed that I am there. The coffee is mediocre at best and the specialty drinks are bad. My hot latte was cold and sour tasting. The menu is limited. I'm excited to see other places with coffee opening up nearby.

Yelp
I've gotten coffee here a few times. It is a cute small coffee shop. Great coffee and service! May fave is the cloud burst!!

Leilani S.

Yelp
Loved this adorable coffee shop! The aesthetics were so cute and I'm obsessed with the cumulus matcha drink. I got it 3 days in a row when I was in town and the service was always quick!

Yelp
Nice location among several restaurants in the bowl. Service was friendly. Coffee was really good! Liked the different flavors.

Yelp
Super cute cafe! Some seating inside and more outside. Clean aesthetic inside, friendly staff, and great menu. Loved the cumulus (wow best matcha I've had; hope they never take it off the menu!) and the Apple cider loaf was yummy. What a great addition to the area. Definitely adding to my rotation!

Yelp
Vanilla iced latte was good. A bit sweet for my taste. The vanilla had a nice quality flavor. (I believe they mentioned it's made by them.). Next time I would opt for less vanilla syrup. They use ounces and do not offer sugar free options, which I personally prefer sugar free. They do have stevia if you want less of a syrup taste but still want something a bit sweet. There is only one cup size and the price is around $6+. That could be a deterrent for me. Especially in the winter when I would prefer a hot coffee. It's takes effort to just run by, parking etc. So it wouldn't be a 'go to' for me if I just wanted coffee. The setting is more for those who are spending time enjoying the beautiful Ballantyne Bowl and coffee is a perk. The other note is they offer only whole milk and oat milk. I'm an oat milk girl so that works for me but for others that may be an issue. Overall I'm very happy they are at the Bowl! My wishes would be a sugar free syrup option, at least one other larger size cup, and more "milk"options. I do not know the history behind why they limited these choices but my hope is if other people feel similar that they voice this. One other note. This is their first location and there's some mention of possibly expanding into Matthews and another area of Charlotte.

Yelp
Fly Kid Fly's coffee is simply outstanding--smooth, rich, and perfectly brewed on each occasion. The breakfast burritos are a must-try--fresh, flavorful, and the ideal way to kick off your day. The team here is among the friendliest you'll encounter; they're always inviting and seem to know exactly what to recommend for whatever you're in the mood for. Madi, the manager, is wonderful. Weekends can get quite busy, and indoor seating is limited, but there's ample outdoor seating with heaters. This place is definitely worth a visit!

Gia Z.

Yelp
As a coffee enthusiast, I was excited to explore coffee shops wherever I go. The name "Fly Kid" caught my attention, it sounded fun and unique, and I was also drawn in by the fact that they use La Marzocco. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing, much like a previous review I had read. The cashier was cold, without a single smile. The two lattes we ordered had decent latte art, but they are too hot to hold( the milk was frothed at a temperature that was way too hot, ruining both the texture and flavor of the coffee) the taste was worse than what you'd get at Starbucks. What a waste.

Yelp
Great coffee, a beautiful space with lots of natural light, & a friendly + engaging staff! A+

katie d.

Yelp
The line was relatively short. The cashiers were nice and attentive. The orange cinnamon role was cold tho.. they didn't give the option to heat it up, I found that odd.

Yelp
This coffee was delicious and Jewel the barista was a dream!!! So sweet and the shop is adorable. I love the blue, and the vegan banana bread was 15/10. Will be back!!!

J K.

Yelp
Excellent coffee. I normally drink americanos, but the cashier recommended the vanilla latte since their vanilla syrup is made in house. It wasn't too sweet and you could taste the quality in the coffee and the vanilla syrup. Friendly customer service as well.

Jessica H.

Yelp
Vanilla latte is amazing!!! Brekky burrito not so much. I asked what was in the burrito and I was told only cheese, hashbrowns and eggs, but all I feel like I taste is onion and there are pieces of green all throughout, so maybe it's green onion?

Oksana B.

Yelp
Staff was very rude. Came in at 4:05 and a customer let me in. Was kicked out because they were closed even though they had a line inside. The hours were not listed on the door. Was looking forward to trying the matcha because I heard a lot of good things about it but now I'm not sure if I will come back. Horrible customer service.

Yara T.

Yelp
Not the best coffee or matcha. Was really excited to try but for the price and the size, I'd would rather go someplace else. Service was also not very good... was trying to pick up my drink and all the workers are huddled around the pickup counter just chatting. They called my name while the drinks were still in this girls hands, and she starts waving her hair around just a weird experience, don't see myself coming back

Catherine H.

Yelp
Oof. Was excited to try this place so I made a special trip. Service was awfulllll especially for a new spot. The girl at the counter rolled her eyes and didn't smile once while I was there. There were 5 employees standing around having fun while this girl made my drink. I had planned to stay to drink it but there is barely any seating in the place, so not sure why they refer to themselves having "atmosphere".
