To begin, our server at the Flying Dutchman provided exceptional service. While I am unable to disclose her name without her consent, her pleasant demeanor and extensive knowledge of the menu contributed to a welcoming atmosphere for my family and me. The culinary offerings were of high quality, featuring well-seasoned and flavorful dishes that were neither bland nor over/undercooked. I highly recommend this establishment for a satisfying dining experience.

This restaurant is open. We had the charbroiled oysters, red snapper, and shrimp po-boy. All were good portions and great tasting. The service was excellent and friendly. The ocean views were very nice as well. Cost for 3 with non-alcoholic drinks came up to $89 plus tip.

Amazing place to have seafood near the shore of Houston. Totally recommend. The prices are adequate to seafood. The servers are very nice. The red snapper stuffed is a must

Embarking on a culinary journey at **The Flying Dutchman** in Kemah, Texas, is akin to discovering a hidden gem for epicureans. My recent visit with my senior parents was nothing short of delightful. Upon arrival, we found a convenient turn-around adjacent to the Aquarium Restaurant, which provided a seamless drop-off point for my parents. Although the pathway to The Flying Dutchman was slightly elongated, it was an effortless stroll without any steps to navigate. A minor crossing over quaint railroad tracks led us to the entrance, where the restrooms were conveniently located to the left. As we entered, a cordial host welcomed us and escorted us to a charming table with an inside window, offering a panoramic view of the bustling canal. The vista was enchanting, with an array of ships, sailboats, and amusement boats gracefully navigating the waters—a truly magical spectacle! The beverages, presented in whimsical tiki glasses adorned with little umbrellas, added a touch of tropical flair to the experience. As for the cuisine, it was nothing short of phenomenal. The oysters, served on the half shell, were the epitome of freshness, surpassing any I've previously savored. The generous seafood platter was ample enough to satisfy three appetites, and the shrimp cocktail was a delightful accompaniment. The Flying Dutchman is a fail-safe choice for an exceptional dining experience in Kemah. Just a small tip: bring a sweater, as the air conditioning is quite brisk. I would gladly bestow 10 stars on this establishment, especially since my father proclaimed the lunch to be among the top five meals he's ever enjoyed!

Google
Pleasantly surprised that our hotel gave breakfast vouchers to The Flying Dutchman. We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious breakfast served by a friendly, well-versed-on local-sites waitress, while watching the boats go out. Giant biscuits, insanely good sausage, & mouth-watering shrimp & crab omelet.

Google
Great outdoor seating! They have lounge areas, a fire pit and outdoor tables with nice views of the water. Outdoor seating is right next to a playground. Snag a drink while you watch your kids play. We didn’t try the food but the margaritas were pretty good. The service was good. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy. It’s a nice spot to get a drink while looking out at the water.

Dinner at 𝐅𝐋𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐔𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐌𝐀𝐍 was great! I ordered coconut 🥥 shrimp 🍤, stuffed red snapper 🐟 with rice pilaf and vegetables, and white fish victory with rice and vegetables. There was no wait to be seated though the entire restaurant was lively and almost fully occupied. The view of the boardwalk next to our table was beautiful. I really enjoyed the service and experience!

We love sitting on the patio and watching the boats go by while we dine here. The service is always good and the seafood is fresh. The kids love the menu, and the happy hour has decent specials. Part of Landry's Select Club.

Yelp
First time guest and pleasantly surprised!! My husband and I spent the day at the Kemah Wine Fest and decided to stop in here to have an early dinner. Our waitress, Sara, was very kind, knowledgeable on the menu, and provided us with excellent service from start to finish. It was extremely crowded at the time but we were checked on consistently and had a cold drink in hand the entire time. We first enjoyed the Charbroiled oysters, her recommendation, and were blown away! I ordered the Daily Special, Tortilla crusted redfish with crab and lemon butter, absolutely amazing. My husband wanted a burger and it was also delicious! I don't know how we haven't noticed this place before. Perfect spot to enjoy some drinks and delicious food while watching the boats pass by. We will be returning ASAP!

Yelp
We didn't have a great experience. I got the chowder and my wife got the gumbo. Her gumbo wasn't that great in my opinion. The chowder was pretty good though. The poor review is on service. Now, our server was nice, but we were not attended to once we received our food. We asked for hot sauce and more water. Long story short, he didn't come back until after we asked for the check. We gave him our credit card and he brought us back the receipt and the card.. didn't run the card. So, we couldn't find him again and went to the manager and explained that we tried to pay but the card had T been run. They ran the card.. for $98! We said "this isn't our bill." We got it sorted in the end, but it took us 28 minutes to get and pay the bill and we were never attended to. Not ever asked "how was the food?" Sadly, we won't be back.

Yelp
Really good food and great service. We will be coming back soon. The drinks were great also. They only bad is not having the large ICE cubes for an old fashioned. Other than that my family enjoys it along with the views of the water.

JadyMarie D.

Yelp
We visited the Flying Dutchman during the crawfish festival on a busy Saturday. The hostesses and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Thankfully there was no wait time and we were seated prompty. They offer both indoor and outfoor seating. Everything is very clean. We requested a table outside so we could enjoy the live Zydeco band and the exceptional weather. We enjoyed: - Fried pickles - Crunchy calamari - Oysters on the half shell - Oysters Rockefeller - Crawfish - Grilled redfish - Ultimate seafood platter The food was excellent. We will give them a try again.

Roxann S.

Yelp
Great place to bring your family! We have been patrons for years. Food is priced very well, it's delicious, and there are many great options on the menu. The view of boats coming and going along the boardwalk is so entertaining & fun while you eat as well! We had a large party yesterday and the food and service were excellent. Everything was served in a timely manner. We highly recommend this place for a wonderful meal with a view!

Jim V.

Yelp
Food OK. If you plan to sit on the patio and enjoy the boats coming and going ask what time the Fantasea is docking in front of the tables. This was very frustrating. Sit on the left side of the boardwalk steps to enjoy the water not the side of a boat. Wish the hostess would have seated us where the boat was not docking and loading for 30 minutes. No one was here.

Robert E.

Yelp
The food was fantastic as the last time we were here, a few years ago. Especially the bread bowl varieties. Fish(farm raised cod) and chips were great. The appetizers were so large could have been their own meals. The view out to the channel topped off the experience.

Justin M.

Yelp
The Flying Dutchman has been in Kemah for decades. They have a seafarers decor with a modem twist. The food was really good and fresh. The server was really wonderful and made sure that our group was taken care of. I would recommend this restaurant for it's assortment of Seafood dishes.

David B.

Yelp
Absolutely cannot recommend. When a restaurant advertises their specialty to be oysters but I'm told by the bartender they are too busy for anyone to order oysters, I will not be back. I even spoke to a manager about the situation and he didn't care to step in and help. Simply said "we're too busy". Won't be busy long with that kind of attitude.

Katelyn T.

Yelp
Amazing food! I got the seafood stuffed catfish and it was beyond amazing. I highly recommend the calamari as well and the Rockefeller oysters!!

Lileanna M.

Yelp
Hello, first time customer here!! I would have to say WOW!!! The Chipotle Chicken Sandwich was just about the best chicken sandwich I've ever tasted The ceviche.. don't even get me started it was spectacular... Our waitress Jenny was the sweetest she served us with care. The atmosphere was amazing and perfect I might add.

Jasmine B.

Yelp
the food here was good but do not waste your time on the clam chowder it just taste like soggy butter bread. The service was 10/10 and very helpful. I love the views I was able to take in even from the inside but I honestly hate the smell of the place.

Dustin M.

Yelp
Been her before and I love it. Kemah Boardwalk holds many memories for me as a kid and the restaurants really enrich the experience, including this one. Love and highly recommend the New England Clam Chowder.

Nicole B.

Yelp
It's really nice and has great options too, staff is great, bar area is cozy and has great views of the water , outdoor seating and delicious drinks

Kevin Y.

Yelp
I loved this place !! I was looking for breakfast and not the norm and appointed me to the Flying Dutchman on the boardwalk. It wasn't really Crowded so I got a table by the window. It was kind of breezy and cool, so nobody was outside, so I looked at the menu and I decided on the crab and shrimp omelette and a Mamosa and enjoy the view. The omelette came out perfect with some hot potatoes and hot sauce, which is all I need and a perfect Mamosa for the morning which is what the doctor asked for. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was on point. Would love to come back for dinner. I'm in the area once a month so looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend. !!

Yelp
The Flying Dutchman restaurant on the Kemah Boardwalk in Texas offers you excellent food right on the water. The oysters were delicious, and the cobb salad was amazing, along with the mushroom burger. The fries are freshly cut and delicious as well. The service was great, and our server was very nice and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, and being on the water makes it even better. The only issue I had was all the servers sitting next to us, coming and going, being loud. That ruined my experience slightly since it took away from peacefulness of the location. Make sure you stop by and try the delicious food available at this restaurant.

Gisel C.

Yelp
Food wasn't that great, perfectly fried but missing seasoning. Our cocktails also tasted funny, especially the Paloma. Way too sweet and just overall not worth their prices. Plus our server took her time getting back to the table, we had to get up to pay instead of her bringing the check because she just was not checking in as often as she probably could have. However while dining outdoors we did meet a cute little cat and I would go back just for that sweet male cat.

Yelp
The Flying Dutchman INTRO: Seafood restaurant located in Kemah Texas right near Kemah Waterfront. Chipotle Chicken Sandwich ($14.99)- Good size for one person and very flavorful. Comes with a side a fries. Chicken Tampico ($19.99)- Delicious taste, tender chicken, and the lemon butter really complimented the dish. Comes with rice and seasoned vegetables. Chocolate Cake ($9.99)- Very large slice drizzled with caramel and chocolate. Could have been more moist but the flavor was not too overly sweet. Parking/Location- Parking Garage and regular parking lot located close to the area and on the boardwalk. Plenty of restaurants, events, rides, and shops in the area that are family friendly and makes a good day to spend there. Ambience/Service- Service was good and the waitress was very kind and friendly. Large open dining area with windows around to view the water and board walk. Also had outdoor seating along with a fire pit and bar area

Angelique G.

Yelp
Weird musty smell when you first walk in. Gumbo was a "bowl" but the size of a cup. The only saving grace was surprisingly a burger. Towards the end, our waitress was nowhere to be found, so we had to flag down someone else to get our check. Overall. It was just okay. Nothing spectacular in regards to food.

Yelp
Hey good spot for lunch and dinner. Oysters are very tasty . Sitting by the fireplace is so comfortable and romantic!!!Service is above and beyond satisfying..

Dennis E.

Yelp
The Flying Dutchman catered our meeting for lunch today and I had the clam chowder soup and it was wonderful so I had to come back at dinner and get some more. I also ordered a half a dozen oysters on the half shell and sat outside and enjoyed the evening. The oysters were extremely fresh and very flavorful. They came with cocktail sauce and horseradish. I ordered a bowl of the clam chowder and it was a perfect early evening dinner. The clam chowder is honestly one of the best I've ever had. I would have given this five stars except I really didn't eat a meal so I don't know how those are but what I had was very good. The server was very attentive and helpful and my food came out quickly. The atmosphere was really nice. This is a great place to take a date.

Rob B.

Yelp
Service was excellent! We had a family gathering which started with 12 and grew to about 20. No problem accommodating us at all, even on a busy summer Saturday evening. The crawfish queso is yummy. The grilled oysters were good. The fried pickles strangely were just barely warm, but were crisp (we ate them up, but we'll pass in the future). The snapper ponchartrain was good, though I think the "fresh red snapper" indeed tasted fresher. The shrimp pasta was outstanding, the coconut shrimp was very good. The side of mixed vegetables could have been cooked a bit. Our party enjoyed the food and drinks very much. Our out of town guests were impressed!

Mollie B.

Yelp
Pros -Oysters were good -The location Cons -Our server was in a grumpy mood and complained about her job due to short staffing and the kitchen being behind -Half our oyster platter was still attached to the shell -She had to remove drinks from our tab that weren't ours to begin with but on the check she gave us -Our drinks came out watered down from sitting at the bar for so long (30 mins) -Our food took over an hour to come out when the restaurant was dead -We had to send our pickles back due to them being WAY too salty -The ultimate seafood platter was a big let down, and the catfish accidentally had a fried jalapeño or pickle attached to it and had fabric string within the batter I had to pull out -She never checked back on us once food was delivered until it was time to tab out

jenny t.

Yelp
Service was slow but expected as and after they started serving us, experience got better and better. Located on the boardwalk. Highly recommend the chargrilled oysters that are served with slices of French bread to soak up the juice from the oysters. So delicious that we ordered another one. Fresh oysters were fresh. Could have given much more cocktail sauce without needing to ask. Appreciate the rice served on the side for gumbo. Shrimp size for the popcorn shrimp was a whole shrimp, not pieces. Really great view of the bay where we sat. Outdoor seating is available. Restroom was clean, free parking on the street available but would be quite a walk.

Ken S.

Yelp
I love the fact of sitting down here at the restaurant and having such a beautiful view of the water outside...love the plate of oysters (dozen) fresh as can be. Staff was very friendly and plenty of seating with some really good views of the bay.

Ambria T.

Yelp
It was so busy at Kemah for the fireworks! All the restaurants were 2 hour waits, and we were starving. We had a big party and when Flying Dutchman said they were ready for us, we pounced at the opportunity! Our waiter, Richard promptly greeted us and everything was very organized. He was super friendly and fun. He communicated to us that everything was backed up however he promised to deliver the best service he could! And he delivered. I had the shrimp kisses as an appetizer and my friend had some oysters, so delicious. The main courses weren't anything to call home about. The desserts, yummy yummy! All in all - I personally wouldn't go back for the food. The experience was super amazing and we saw the fireworks from our seats so that made it even better. The thing that made it special was THAT SERVICE WAS TOP TIER. Thanks Richard for being wonderful to our party

Josh T.

Yelp
Guys when you come you need to ask for Shianne. Her service was amazing and she was very patient with us. The portions were large and flavor was very delicious and it's just fun eating seafood while watching boats sail by.

Lauren C.

Yelp
Food was very mediocre. You are paying high prices to be on the waterfront but in the future I would just eat somewhere else and then enjoy Kemah separately.

Sharon P.

Yelp
Ate there for lunch. Both of us had the ranch chicken sandwich and it was great. We sat at the bar. Bartender Morgan was super friendly.

Anant L.

Yelp
We showed up to Kemah ... on a Sunday...with 8 people ...and no reservations. The aquarium turned us away, Joe's had a 2 hour wait, but the Flying Dutchman got us a table relatively quickly. They had a policy of not putting together ocean view tables which was a little disappointing but we were happy they didn't force us to sit at separate tables. If you're not a big eater I would recommend splitting dishes. They have very generous portion sizes. The food was terrific. My brother declared the avocado bacon burger the best meal he had ever had in his life. I had the snapper pontchartrain with a delicious white wine and mushroom sauce. The blackened catfish was good too as was the fish and chips. Most of the entrees came with boiled vegetables and rice. A few people substituted the rice for a baked potato or fries and that was probably a good call. The rice and veggies were a little bland, but the entrees were still worth it. Ask for Sib as your waiter. He kept our waters full, was fun and enthusiastic, and checked in the perfect number of times.

Hongsuk S.

Yelp
Two of us came in for an early lunch on a Saturday. Right off the bat, the service was a little slow. It took us about 10 minutes to get seated and I was unsure what the holdup was. After sitting, it was about another 10 minutes for the server to come get drink orders. We started off with some tropical alcoholic drinks. For under $10 each, the drinks were pretty good in flavor. Could have used a bit more alcohol in them, though. Appetizers we got Calamari ($11.99) and several oysters ($18/dozen). Oysters were pretty good, good enough to get multiple dozen orders. Shucking could have used some work, as there were lots of small shell pieces with the oysters. Calamari was pretty good. They came out fried not too much, crispy and not soggy, and plentiful. The sauce is a tomato based sauce. I asked the server if she had a cream sauce that may go with another appetizer, but she looked at me like I was crazy and said there wasn't one. When I checked the menu, there was a creole creme fraiche that would've suited me. Oh well, womp womp. Business started picking up by the time we were done eating and service slowed down even further. If it weren't for the long waits at seating, drink orders, and getting our checks, I would have given the place 4*'s. Food was pretty good and the outdoor seating is nice.

Yamil G.

Yelp
I really love the customer services they're so nice definitely would come again!!and the food is delicious to!Theres also a lot of people

Marianne M.

Yelp
Had a really nice lunch on the patio. We both ordered burgers and fries. They were surprisingly good. It was a picture perfect day.

Sherry E.

Yelp
The food was excellent. Two had fish and chips which were really good. I had the grilled seafood plate . Which was excellent.. they give so much food. The servers Brooke and Joe were great. Brooke filled our glasses of drinks without us asking. Joe kept the laughing sea gulls from our food as we were being

John J.

Yelp
This spot was nothing special just a nice location for the view. If you are looking for a quick bite this can be the place. They have a good amount of seating and prices were ok. If you are in this area may be worth a try. Just not a place that I would go out of my way to get. Service was nice and pretty fast with the order.

Pam W.

Yelp
We celebrated my mother-in-law's 95th birthday today at the Flying Dutchman. Reservations for 18 guests were made in advance for 2pm. John Henderson, the manager, welcomed us at the front door and escorted us to our table. He let us know that he was available to meet any of our needs. We were seated in a corner of the restaurant with full floor to ceiling windows so that we could watch the boats go by. The view was incredible. Two young ladies served us and were very competent, kind and accommodating. The food was served in an appropriate time and was outstanding. This restaurant was my mother and father-in-law's favorite restaurant so we frequented it for well over 30 years. I was a little concerned as to whether the quality would be as we remembered, but it did not disappoint. How refreshing. I highly recommend you visiting the Flying Dutchman!

Annette G.

Yelp
Food and adult beverages were good. We were a party of 4 and all tried something different. Nice ambiance and service was great.

Jamie L.

Yelp
We got our appetizer and 2 minutes later the manager brought us silverware and plates. No big deal. Got our drinks and food. Service wasn't bad. We got our check and then our server went MIA for 20 minutes. We had been there an hour+ and we were ready to go. My friend finally asked another server to find her for us. He was walking everywhere and couldn't find her. She finally came back and asked for our tickets. Took another few minutes to ring us up. Idk if she was new. If she was she should have told us. I still tipped accordingly to our 20% and I really had to think on that one. I felt bad for our friends who had an hour drive ahead of them and I suggested to eat here. This is probably my 3rd non-5-star review.

Jon W.

Yelp
Just enjoyed the most wonderful time, with great food, atmosphere service and kindness, at The Flying Dutchman! It is my birthday, and owner Sean went above and beyond to ensure I had a wonderful experience...with great food and drink recommendations. The hand-shaken pina colada is a must have! And the key fish and chips was delicious! Even the music playing in the background was wonderful and helped set the tone for a great meal and experience. Will definitely be back!

Matt S.

Yelp
Beautiful location, wonderful food, and our server Brooke was outstanding! I had the Bourbon St Pasta and we had the crawfish queso appetizer. Will definitely be back when I'm in Houston again.

Amber Whackado J.

Yelp
I had the eggs Benedict and a mimosa the food was great the view was great. Hubs got the huge breakfast he enjoyed it

Rachelle F.

Yelp
Great service, food was great and the ambiance is calm and quiet. Availability of tables was easy to get. Outdoor seating is nice with a good view of the waterfront.

Johanna A.

Yelp
The restaurant has a large patio area right beside the water. The area isn't smelly like how some water areas can be. Service, food, and drinks were not bad at all, but not spectacular. However, prices were reasonable. The reason why I rated this restaurant 3 stars is because the bar didn't greet us or spot us with napkins when we moved from the patio to the bar and the server accidentally spilled our drinks, causing the glasses to break and drinks spilled on us.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
The service here is deplorable. We evidently walked in the back door, off of the deck, and stood waiting for someone to tell us that we need to move to the other side 9f the restaurant to check in. We finally asked someone. We were seated quickly but weren't greeted for a while. There were not man6 people in the restaurant Inside or out, but we waited sooooooo long for service and our food. My sister asked for sugar for her tea. Her ice melted before we asked another waiter for some sugar. We were there far too long with a child......waiting!!!!!! Never again!!!!!!!

Max N Xoe S.

Yelp
Don't focus on this 3 star review! Food was delicious, Liz gave us great service! Yes this place can be busy and just coming back to servicing us from pandemic, we need to understand they are possibly shorthanded. So thank you for working and serving us, we r had great time, great food! Fish dish was all so good, no picture because we are so fast! Ask Liz what's good, she can tell us all!

Denise A.

Yelp
Celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary at the FD. Had an excellent dining experience. Great atmosphere, great food and great service. Taneka Bradley was an excellent waitress.

Janice M.

Yelp
I went here for my birthday and it was SO depressing. so sad. i vow to myself to never have such a sad birthday ever again. in fact, i feel like that whole year should be refunded to me and i'll just stay my previous age. thanks! anyway - we were literally only the 2nd table seated at the restaurant. i know weekdays are slow in Kemah but come on! There was condensation all over the windows so their expensive view was non-existent. I ordered the ahi tuna which was supposed to come with firecraker slaw - which is a slaw with rice vinegar. I guess they were out because they just put plain ol' coleslaw on top. good ol mayo coleslaw. they might have run nextdoor to bubba's and got it from them. honestly, i should have run over to bubba's and spent my bday there. because it was s-a-d.

Diane K.

Yelp
First time here and we will definitely be back! Our server Michelle was the highlight of our visit. We overheard that it was only her 2nd day on the floor but you would never be able to tell based on how hospitable she was. We came in with a plan to just order one thing and possibly hop to another spot but we ended up having a 3 course dinner with cocktails all recommended by our server. The oysters were almost as unforgettable as the service. This place doesn't have the 5 star rating it deserves on Yelp!

Erica G.

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday night and at this point in time the crowd had died down. We ordered the crawfish queso, the Acapulco fish tacos and the shrimp & oyster enbrochette. Crawfish queso was by far the highlight of our meal. The Alcapulco fish tacos weren't my favorite.. the shrimp & oyster enbrochette had a very weird sweet/dull bland sauce that we couldn't understand. Did not compliment the plate whatsoever. Another upside was the service was great and everyone was very friendly.
