Downtown Houston Businesses Sustain Minimal Damage During Police Brutality Protests | Eater Houston

"A South Indian café in north Downtown that was targeted with anti-police graffiti during demonstrations; someone spray-painted the phrase “ACAB” (all cops are bastards) and the number 12 (code for police) with an “X” through it on the exterior. The incident was part of largely peaceful protests in the area, which nevertheless saw scattered vandalism and some broken windows among downtown businesses." - Brittanie Shey

I visited this place on a Sunday evening, and it was pleasantly calm with no rush. You’ll find delicious Indian street-style snacks like idly, dosa, and bajji – all of which we tried and absolutely loved. They serve everything with flavorful ginger chutney, peanut chutney, and warm sambar. The taste was authentic and satisfying. It’s a great spot to visit with friends and family for a relaxed and tasty experience. Highly recommended!

Cool place, located in a parking spot with another food truck which gives more options to the customers. Ordered ghee idli and Mysore masala dosa and taste was good. Service was a bit slow but not too bad.

Came to Flying Idlis after hearing a lot of good things from my friends about their food, ambience, and overall vibe. I first visited two days ago and tried their Ghee Podi Idly, which was absolutely delicious, soft, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with ghee and podi. Today, I came back craving it again, but it was unfortunately out of stock, so I decided to try the Vijayawada Paneer Dosa instead and wow, it didn’t disappoint! The dosa was beautifully crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the paneer masala had that perfect spicy Vijayawada touch. The peanut chutney and sambar were also incredibly tasty and complemented the dosa perfectly. Overall, Flying Idlis has definitely become one of my new favorite food spots — both for the taste and the vibe!

This food truck serves delicious dosas. There are quirkily painted drums that double up as tables. The staff are warm and helpful. The sambar was tangy, spicy, and pleasantly thick, none of that usual runny stuff - and the chutney was just as perfect. I wish they served rasam too!

Flying Idlis is a lively food truck with great customer service. It offers tasty items that are reasonably priced. I've tried many items from their menu. My all time favorites are Tawa Bonda and Mysore Masala Dosa. Allam Chutney is super tasty! (the ginger gives a unique flavor). Honestly, the idly/vada isn't the best in town, but still decent enough. Their Punugulu were crisp and golden -- ideal for a snack. Flying Idlis is a must-try if you’re looking for food at a reasonable price!

Their Idly is a must try and the Sambar is lip smacking good. Reasonable price, great portion.

We were really craving punugulu and happened to come across a food truck in Santa Clara, right at the corner of El Camino Real and San Tomas Expwy, near The Off Ramp Bicycle Shop. The great thing about this spot is that there is plenty of space and parking available. They have a few tables with chairs and a couple of high tables where you can stand and eat. We decided to order Punugulu, Poori with Channa Masala, and Pizza Dosa. We started with the Poori and Channa Masala, which turned out to be a delicious combination. The Channa Masala was flavorful and came with three not-too-oily Pooris. Next, we tried the Pizza Dosa, which had a nice homemade pizza taste but was quite greasy. The Punugulu were also good, with a sprinkle of chaat masala on top. The only downside was the sambar and peanut chutney, which didn't taste good and affected the overall flavor. However, the ginger chutney was okay, and we managed with that. Overall, it's a nice spot with tasty food at affordable prices.
