Downtown Houston Businesses Sustain Minimal Damage During Police Brutality Protests | Eater Houston

"A South Indian café in north Downtown that was targeted with anti-police graffiti during demonstrations; someone spray-painted the phrase “ACAB” (all cops are bastards) and the number 12 (code for police) with an “X” through it on the exterior. The incident was part of largely peaceful protests in the area, which nevertheless saw scattered vandalism and some broken windows among downtown businesses." - Brittanie Shey

Tried Flying Idlis and absolutely loved it! The food was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. Everything was well prepared and served nicely. The taste really stood out, and the sauces complemented it perfectly. Definitely a great spot for tasty South Indian snacks.

Excellent taste and service! The staff is very nice and accommodating. We ordered poori with onion masala and punugulu. We asked for it to be spicy and they accommodated!

Cool place, located in a parking spot with another food truck which gives more options to the customers. Ordered ghee idli and Mysore masala dosa and taste was good. Service was a bit slow but not too bad.

The food here truly reflects authentic South Indian flavors — fresh dosas, flavorful sambar, and well-prepared chutneys. Everything was served hot and tasted homemade. What really stood out was the cashier service. The cashier was extremely polite, patient, and efficient, even during a busy time. They clearly explained the menu, handled payments quickly, and made the overall ordering process smooth and stress-free. Their friendly attitude made a strong first and last impression. Overall, a great dining experience thanks to both the delicious food and the excellent customer service at the counter. Highly recommended

I visited this place on a Sunday evening, and it was pleasantly calm with no rush. You’ll find delicious Indian street-style snacks like idly, dosa, and bajji – all of which we tried and absolutely loved. They serve everything with flavorful ginger chutney, peanut chutney, and warm sambar. The taste was authentic and satisfying. It’s a great spot to visit with friends and family for a relaxed and tasty experience. Highly recommended!

Came to Flying Idlis after hearing a lot of good things from my friends about their food, ambience, and overall vibe. I first visited two days ago and tried their Ghee Podi Idly, which was absolutely delicious, soft, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with ghee and podi. Today, I came back craving it again, but it was unfortunately out of stock, so I decided to try the Vijayawada Paneer Dosa instead and wow, it didn’t disappoint! The dosa was beautifully crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the paneer masala had that perfect spicy Vijayawada touch. The peanut chutney and sambar were also incredibly tasty and complemented the dosa perfectly. Overall, Flying Idlis has definitely become one of my new favorite food spots — both for the taste and the vibe!

This plate had everything — soft rotis, flavorful curry, and perfectly cooked fritters. Each item complemented the other so well. The spices were spot on and nothing felt rushed or oily. Great comfort food.

Tried Flying Idlis for the first time and absolutely loved it. The puris were super fresh, light, and perfectly puffed, and the curries were packed with authentic flavors. Everything tasted homemade and comforting. Definitely a place I’d come back to again.
