Flying Noir’s Chocolates Are Basically Mini-Paintings - Eater SF

"Few chocolatiers sell their chocolate bars as “canvases.” But, then again, few chocolatiers worked as painters before getting into the game. Karen Urbanek, owner of Berkeley’s Flying Noir chocolate, might be the only one in the Bay Area who cut her teeth as a full-time visual artist." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Fantastic and delicious experience! I placed a super last minute order (~2pm on Wed Feb 13) and it was ready within an hour. This is very impressive given the timing before Valentine's Day. The website was a bit challenging to easily get a sense of what was available, but don't let this deter you. Take a look, get a sense of what you want and then reach out (I texted which worked great) to the phone number listed. I tried the 4 piece box with Eros, Hoji, Pash, and Simku. All were beautiful and delicious. I have tried chocolates from over 150 chocolatiers around the world, and it is very clear that Flying Noir uses high quality ingredients and is highly skilled. The flavors were delicious, complex and texture was perfect. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Yummy chocolates presented beautifully from a local chocolatier; what's not to like!! I've ordered for different occasions including as thank you gifts for my team last year, birthdays, and anniversaries. I highly recommend you try these!

Yelp
Flying Noir chocolates are the best I've ever had. From the beauty of each individual piece, to the art and design of the box and the poetic descriptions of each chocolate--they are a work of art that leaves you wanting more. And more. I never get tired of them, and I give them to everyone I know that appreciates good chocolate.

Yelp
These are unbelievably gorgeous, carefully made artisanal treasures, a step above Casa de Chocolates, Michael Mischer, Charles Chocolate or Chocolatier Blue. The chocolates and presentations are beautifully handpainted and/or handcarved. Not stenciled. Oh, and they're serious, crazy delicious bits of heaven, too. If you're going for WOW for both the eye the tastebuds, this is it.

Yelp
These little nuggets of chocolates are heavenly and the presentation is the cutest. Looking forward to my next purchase... maybe next time I'll share with the family.

Yelp
If you fancy artisanal chocolate, give Flying Noir a try. Depending on your tastes, it could be the very best you've ever had. That's how I rated it after a sampling the other day. But no need to believe me. There's a long list of national and international gold medals and first places that this little place has won during its brief existence to date. You'll find the list of awards--and other mouth-watering details--posted on their website. What struck me most was that their chocolate has something--dimension? depth?-- that I've never experienced in even the finest chocolate before. In place of a lot of sugar, Flying Noir uses an array of spices. Added bonus: this small business shares a shop and kitchen with the larger and also amazing chocolatier Coco Delice. This is a twofer you really shouldn't pass up.
