Houston’s Best Sports Bars | Eater Houston

"This popular Texan chain is home to one of the best craft beer selections in town. Choose from hundreds of beers, including sours, porters, and everything in between — all while downing German-inspired pub fare. Run by sports fans, the owners have lined the walls with many TVs, so be sure to pair some wurst with a stein and cheer on your favorite team. Esteemed guests and long-time regulars can even work their way to the bar’s Ring of Honor, where their names hang in the rafters." - Brittany Britto Garley

I'm not even exaggerating when I say that the hummus here is some of the best I've ever had (which feels rare to say about a bar!) Absolutely the best "bar" food around town. The bartenders are extremely friendly & helpful with drink recommendations. Fun ambiance & a great location in town center. If I lived closer, I would totally attempt the plate challenge Flying Saucer is the perfect spot for a date night, meetup, catching up with friends, or any occasion!

This was a great place for happy hour. The food and drinks were pretty good. The Buffalo chicken wings were very tasty. It came with carrot and celery sticks and choice of ranch or blue cheese. The burger and sweet potato fries were good as well. The service was a bit slow at times but very friendly. The decor is fun and festive. There are plates all over the walls. Parking was free and easy in the garage nearby.

Google
Wide selection of beers from all over the world and pretty good food. Great place for a group happy hour and hanging out with friends. Tons of craft beers on tap from all over the US and world. Service was very friendly and helpful in navigating the vast beer options. They will also give you a small taste to help you decide between a couple of options. Service was a little inconsistent. Our waitress was attentive most of the time but there were also large gaps in time where she was busy with other tables. Not that big of a deal since we were hanging out of several hours. Decent food selection. We got the burger and that was tender and juicy. There’s decent amount of outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

Google
Definitely a go to place for great beer. Sign up to register your beer purchases to earn a plate to be placed on the wall or ceiling. 200 unique beers and you get a plate and a party. Food is above average. We often times order a pizza cooked extra crisp or a pretzel. It's possible to get an off menu plate of bacon if you're not worried about heart attacks. The waitstaff is always excellent.

Super nice staff and big footprint! Great beer choices... wish I could have had more! ;)

Google
We love the Flying Saucer. Yes, they have a wide selection of draft (draught) and bottled beers, wine, cocktails and and food. But they also have the convivial craft beer atmosphere. My plate has often said it: "came for the beer, stayed for the friends". . Speaking of plates, they have an UFO Club available. You can track the beers you've had (each make/model counts once), and after 200 different craft beers they host a party and give you a plate. It's a nice little payback for your patronage. . They have a social hour Tuesday through Friday with special food and drink prices. Sundays, local Houston beers are on special, and Mondays all the draft beers are on special. They also host trivia weekly with extra themed trivia occasionally.

Great food, Expedient service, and Nice atmosphere. My order was taken in a timely manner and was correct when received. The food tasted awesome. My team went there to conduct a hail and farewell and everything was great.

I’ve visited Flying Saucer before and always had a good experience, but yesterday was a different story. We were a group of over 15 people and simply asked if they could accommodate us. The manager made no effort to help—no solutions, not even a clear yes or no. When we asked if the tables could be rearranged, the manager stood by while we moved them ourselves, only commenting that it was fine as long as we put them back before leaving. There was zero support from her or the staff and one of us ended up with a cut from moving tables. The only bright spot was our server—she was kind and attentive despite the lack of management support. Flying Saucer may be okay for small groups, but if you’re planning to come with a larger party, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

Yelp
Overall a nice place but this is about the 4th time I've been served by London and she is incredibly rude. She acts like it's a burden to do her job. She'll come up to me with a pissed off face if you're not ready to order your beer on her time and make annoyed faces while you're trying to order. She always has a smart mouth comment to say and it's been more than once. I bring my buddies from work up here and they've even made comments about her rudeness and don't like having her serve us. If she doesn't want to work in service then she should find a new job, this is ridiculous that I've had to go through this especially on more than one occasion.

Yelp
I watched with high anticipation when this place opened in 2003 while I was still living in Sugar Land. Back then, we used to frequent the downtown location, so when this one opened, it quickly became the go-to spot for my close friends. Whether is casual hangouts, celebrations, date nights, or just a reliable drink, it really felt like my home bar! It's been a while since I last visited, but on my most recent trip, I was glad to see they still offer the classic "firesale specials." While the menu has evolved a bit over the years, it's comforting to know staples like the fish and chips are still around. I also tried the German plate this time, though it felt a bit underwhelming in terms of portioning and quality. They do have a weekday happy hour, and parking is generally manageable thanks to the garage in Town Square(You can park at reserve spots after 5pm). The food won't blow you away, but the real draw here is the atmosphere. It's nostalgic and laid-back for me. There's a wide selection of beers on tap, and the wall of personalized plates is a nice touch.. You might get a mixed experience when it comes to service, but more often than not, it's solid. The space is large and open with an outdoor patio, there's a nice dart board and a solid setup of TVs for catching a game. Overall, it's a staple in the Sugar Land Town Square and a fun and casual spot for starting or ending your night.

Yelp
I love this bar! Always a good time when my husband and I drop in. They are great about letting me taste different beers until I find the perfect one for the night .Tonight I tried the tiny bomb wiseacre which was on special for $5. The vibe here is very laid back and trendy . The music is always up beat. I love how there are so many different beers to choose from in tap. From Belgian to ciders , lagers, ipa's and much more. The Bar staff was very nice and attentive. I love that there a ton of seating at the bar. This is a great place to get drink and tasty food.

Yelp
Went to Flying Saucer Sugar Land on a Wednesday for a mid day pick me up. I was delighted to see that they had a special with the Saint Arnold Pumpkinator!! I received a 6oz pour of the 2023 Pumpkinator and a 6oz pour of the 2024 Pumpkinator along with a keepsake glass all of $10.00. It was early on a Wednesday evening so the place was only half full. We had no problem finding a table. The service was on point as the staff was helpful and friendly. Lots of free parking available in the nearby parking garage.

Yelp
I was introduced to the Flying Saucer by a friend. I really enjoyed the H- Town Pilsner's. Surprisingly, the food is great. It's bar food but good bar food. The pizza and burger at brunch are excellent. The service is good and the manager is on the floor picking up any slack. This place is large with plenty of seating.

Yelp
Amazing service great option of bebeer tasting. The have awesome food! The WINGS armrest the best wings in sugarland I have tried! They host the best oktoberfest in sugarland although it was too concongested it could have been extended throughout towncenter but it was so entertaining and fun!

Yelp
I love saucer!! Always a fun time in sugar land. It's very homey with a wide variety of beers to choose from. They also have a fun rewards program where ordering enough beers will get you a lifetime plate on their wall. Definitely a sugar land gem and always looking forward to be back.

Yelp
Server (Jenny R) - service was not good, spilt our ticket and the items were all wrong. Not very attentive. Another server came and was more helpful but Jenny didn't bother helping the spill on the table Food was mediocre, not sure I would come back for the food One star for the trivia One star for the beer selection

Yelp
If you want a good pretzel and a draft beer, Flying Saucer will wet your whistle. Plan on staying a while...not because they're good...no, no...you will find yourself literally stuck in the stickiness of the floors, tables, and seats. I remember this place being much...more once upon a time.

F E.

Yelp
The flying saucer in Sugar Land was my go-to place for a pint and pizza with my wife. However, the past 2 to 3 visits we had extremely poor service. Yes, past 2 to 3 times...we gave it multiple chances. Wait staff observed us sitting and waiting for 10 minutes and not one person came to check on us, offer water, provide a menu. Nada. Quite surprising and disappointing. We quietly rose and left to enjoy dinner elsewhere. It'll be awhile before we go back.
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
I might be biased because I have a plate, but the Flying Saucer is full of staff that know beer and can give great recommendations for you. I will say, friends of mine who like liquor more than beer have said they are a bit limited on that front, so know that going in. There used to be a stellar menu, however they have cut a lot of the classics off so that's a bummer. Atmosphere is nice, typical bar fare as far as I'm concerned.

Yelp
While the beer options are impressive, the Beerfeast is NOT recommended. We expected a charcuterie board with a pretzel, as it was advertised (large pretzel stuffed with meats, cheeses, nuts, fruits, and spreads). Below is a picture of what we received. It was a large delicious pretzel with meats, some fruit, and bunch of pickles and some horseradish mustard. When we asked about the cheeses, nuts, and spreads, they brought out two more things of the same mustard, some walnuts, Craisins, and blue cheese crumbles. If you don't have all of the ingredients, just say the item isn't available and we could find something else to eat. Very disappointed in our food choice tonight.

Yelp
This place is a trap for beer snobs. Now, before you come at me, they have good beer, but it is HIGHLY overpriced and the service is subpar. Getting your plate on the wall is a gimmick they use so that desperate people keep coming back thinking they are cool. Focus on the service, lower prices a tad, actually check on your costumers, even if you are "headed out", AND make sure your coworker checks on your costumer.
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
The Hot Mama pizza is a hit! I'm not expecting great food when I come here but this definitely changes my mind. Their pretzel is always good as well! Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Note: if you sit outside during the day, be prepared to put a coaster over your drink bc gnats will fall/ fly in.

Yelp
Random find while hanging out downtown. We sat at the bar for a quick bite before our TUTS show. We ordered a couple of appetizers and flights. All were really good. Good hang out spot if in the area!

Alex H.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! We had great service and a great time!! Thank you Randy for being so amazing!! We had so much fun! Will be back!

Yelp
Came here for a little hangout. The food and drinks were cool. Got to see someone unveil their ring of honor.

Yenifer C.

Yelp
My review is based on the bartender, Graham, who was awesome! He provided great customer service, recommended great beers and was fun to chat with while at the bar.
google avatar

Jason O.

Yelp
Love the bar vibe. The people are always great. Clean and welcoming environment. A place worth visiting anytime of day. A haven for beer lovers. This particular (ASTRO)noon I decided to try their wings. I got the mojo wings fried crispy.

Aaron J.

Yelp
I'm probably super biased but I love this location. As well as this small chain of restaurants. The beer options are always awesome. Food is always killer. Service can get a bit slow if you sit out side. But other than that great place to kick back and have some cold ones. I look at it as treating myself when I get to come by this place.

John S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating. Servers were friendly and attentive. Really nice beer selection and the food was really good too. We had several pizzas and apps (pretzel & chips/queso) and enjoyed everything. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I've been to Flying Saucer Draught Emporium downtown but this was my first time visiting their Sugar Land location. Located in the charming Sugar Land Town Square, your best bet is parking in the complimentary parking structure and then walking to Flying Saucer. I stopped by on a weekday after dinner for some brews. Flying Saucer is a beer oasis. They have hundreds of beers so talk about a selection! They also describe their beers on the menu so I appreciate that in making my selection. You'll notice that there are a bunch of plates on the wall. If you try all of their beers (three beers max per visit), you'll get your very own personalized plate and all of its eternal glory. That takes some dedication. They also have food. Standard pub fare. Service was solid.
google avatar

Troy M.

Yelp
Food is always great. Service is always above. The atmosphere is upbeat and happy. Beer is ALWAYS fresh and cold.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Deplorable service highlighted by incompetent management. The place is like Sears, the only reason it's still in business is cause of the name. While blatantly ignored for 30 minutes, we observed several tables sending their food back for evidently poor quality. Even worse, most of the waitresses were complaining the whole time instead of serving while bar tenders were ignorant and incompetent. Wouldn't count on them to succeed in customer service at Walmart. Understatedly Disappointing. Put on your big boy/girl pants and do your job to at least a minimally acceptable standard. It's that simple. This place used to be known for a great beer and food selection but it seems management no longer has those connections or capabilities.
google avatar

Abigail E.

Yelp
Came for a mini high school reunion (with old friends). First time here. Just found out about their golden plate; which is given to a member that has drank 200 different kinds of beers. I don't drink often and when I do I don't know what I would even like. Thought this would be a fun way to find out... So I signed up for the challenge.
google avatar

Yelp
As with any Flying Saucer, this one in Sugarland has a great selection of craft beer. We had an Odell's 90 Shilling, which was on special for $4 / pint. And the Old Rasputin Nitro was simply perfect. Excellent service at the bar. We first sat at a table and noticed no servers were stopping by our section. So we moved to the bar, and the service at the bar was top-notch. Overall cleanliness: average Bathroom cleanliness: women's restroom was above average.

Yelp
I came in late with a group. Our server Nikki was on it with service. She let us know when the kitchen and bar were closing. along with that she helped guide us to solid food choices. She knew her beers too. The beer choices are great. IPAs, Blondes and pale ales. Pub food with different choices. This is a great spot for a chill beer or to come with a group. Servers, like Nikki, are great. Would recommend.

Garrett K.

Yelp
Made us sick the next day. Buffalo wings had an old weird crunch to it like it had been left out from the day before. We were starving and aren't that picky so we kept eating it unfortunately. The service was good but the kitchen should be held accountable. We're still sick. A reply from management would be appreciated-
google avatar

Janice V.

Yelp
OK, I just love the flying saucer in Sugarland went out to have a drink. Some wings with some friends in the mine were sitting there. This big, flying cockroach landed on my neck and shoulder, and it was flying somewhere else. People were screaming and hollering trying to get away from a cockroach. How are you going to have flying cockroaches not even come see was jumping on Your customers and yet you are not fixing food because if you have big cockroaches, you have little roaches, we didn't even get to have a drink or eat, because when the boats landed on me that made my flesh call, it was time to get the hell up out of there, so be warned if you go to the flying saucer in Sugarland that you have a chance of a big blind cockroach landing on you

Yelp
One of the best bars, if not the best bar for beer in all of the Sugar Land Town Center! The draft beer choices are amongst the largest collections that I've ever seen (at least 60), and the ones that I've chosen do not lack quality. If you can't find a brew here, then you are a bit too picky. The food choices are decent, complimenting any brew. The Marcellus Wallace sandwich is good, yet not great (pretty much a plain Philly cheese steak sandwich). The portion size was decent, yet not Texas-sized exceptional. Yet this venue is clearly about the beer, so food is somewhat secondary & mainly out of necessity. I discovered that if you choose any alcohol other than beer (mixed drink), expect a bit of a wait. It seems that cocktails aren't made on a regular basis, so be patient with the bartender. I found it strange that the bartender couldn't make a mojito, so the wife settled on a mixed drink basic of something. My wife's drink was decent, yet not really worth a repeat $10 or whatever. I'd stick with the beer, bottled or on draft. For non-beer drinkers, good luck with your water & lime. The saucer decor on the ceiling is fun, particularly on what the patrons write on each saucer. Its recommended to park in the parking garage across the street, of which is free. Overall, this is a pretty fun place to stop in for a casual meal & kick back. Very clean, friendly customer service, & reasonable pricing on entrees & drinks (primarily beer).

Page B.

Yelp
Pricey drinks and slower service. Tried both the table and the bar, and got incredibly rude/slow servers. Took an hour to get fish/chips and 15 minutes to straight up just get skipped over at the bar for a beer. This is an industry that depends on word of mouth for good business, so I'd recommend some training for the staff.
google avatar

Marilu C.

Yelp
You should come here if you want to be rushed while ordering, love cold fries, and love waiting 30 minutes before they ask you if you'd like another beer. The waitress had a bad attitude after I returned poorly executed food. Oh and the eye rolls are the cherry on top. The staff today was incompetent. Not very serviceable.
google avatar

Summer D.

Yelp
Let there be beer. Then let there be more beer. I love the Saucers. I've been to every one in the US except 3. Give me a minute. This one always feels crowded. The tables are close together. It's smaller than other saucers. Yes they do have a patio but same issue as I report at every Saucer I been to. Bad to marginal service on the patio. This one in particular I have never received anything better than marginal service inside and out Thing is each time I have been here I would have eaten and drank more but where is my server? Looking for her every time I have been here. End of night, I usually always order 1 more beer then please cash me out. Every time she brings the beer and not the requested tab. Ugh. Looking for her again. The bar stays packed and that's where I prefer to sit so I grab a seat or table. Food prices here are up from their original menu a few years back. Thats all Saucers, not just here. No more atomic wings, no more pick 2 cheese plate. Remember that chilli that came in an edible bread bowl for $7? All gone. If you want anything to munch on get ready for $10 and up except for the $1.50 fries every one talks about. Food is OK. For the prices it could be better. Pint night is always awesome.$3 pints. Welcome Bells Brewery to TX. Woohoo. Beer prices are reasonable. Cool beer menu by style. I still come from where ever I may be in the world for Sugarlands Flying Saucer Beerfeast 4 years strong. But this location has work to be done yet. Cheers!

Yelp
First trip and was pretty impressed. It's a beer place- lets get that straight first. And they don't disappoint on that front. Lots of draft beer to choose from and some specialty bottles. Food.........The selection isn't huge, lots a burgers, a few salads, and pizza- I had hot soft german pretzels with two dips- very good. I also had a pizza- you pick 3 toppings and that was good too. Our service was ok. I read some reviews with complaints about service and I can see why. My beer sat empty a few times, I would have spent money on one more but she missed it and I finished my food- she didn't even ask if I wanted another. Lots of staff standing around talking. When I waited tables that was a BIG no. Disperse. You aren't there to talk. Walk your section. You don't have to keep asking if "everything is ok" just be there so we can say "Miss, more iced tea please?" or "Oh, could I please get another beer" Waiting tables 101. But really it wasn't atrocious service. The food selection like I said limited but my friend's burger was very good according to him and the pizza was great- the beer of course was good and cold- not very pricey either. We will be back

Yelp
Been here a few times and the place a really going down hill visit after visit the service is slower and the half the time most of there special beers are out

Yelp
I have been trying every place in this town center before I depart from the Houston area. To say the least I was not impressed with this place at all. The food was messy and the service could have been better. We had a second waitress check up on us more than our actual waitress.

Jack M.

Yelp
Decent gastropub in the area for a few good beers and outside dining. Only issue I have is that the place is a bit racist. Always notice a big difference in service when I go with my white friends vs other races. I am in an advisory business and avoid this place when I need to entertain a non-white clients. Worst experience was one of my clients (brown) drank a few extra glasses (He is calm and fully composed - he has a high tolerance). The server asked him to leave because he drank too quick. Was really embarrassing. Never had that experience with my white clients who can also drink equally fast. Took the folks to Bar Louise across the street and they had a good time with no such restrictions.

Yelp
Great food, great service, even better Beer.... You will not regret your visit to the flying saucer.
google avatar

Yelp
The flying saucer is a fantastic, casual place go with friends or a date and sample a wide selection of craft beers, delicious bar food delights, watch sports cheering on your favorite team or just CHILL. Great times. Great memories. And if you drink a selection of beers you could get have a commenative wall plate showing off your mad beer skills!

Erica G.

Yelp
Pretty cool place. I was here new years eve and had a beer. Also ordered a french dip sandwich. The boars head meat served with this sandwich is amazing. The azoo is super good too!

Yelp
The location is perfect . I have been going to flying saucer Addison for a while and when I learnt they had one I sugarland I had to come visit . I came by when the weather was perfect for an evening by the patio and they were hosting trivia night . So all positives there to begin with . I didn't have to wait for a table as my buddies had already got us a spot . I got the beer flight - of course that's what you do here - and it was what I expected. In the short time I was here though I felt like the sever did not check on us frequently enough. As we did not order food it worked out ok, but it did take us a while to clear the check. The venue is great, the beer selection is awesome , the service could have been better . 4 stars overall Because I had a great time .

Brendan S.

Yelp
Ok so the food is not fantastic but the beer is. They have loads of beer on tap and all of it is fresh and in its best condition. They rotate rapidly so there is always lots of new beers to try. The food is pretty standard pub fare, but the chicken sandwich is good and they do good fries.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
I don't drink beer, but my friends love the huge variety - a ton are on tap & there are some bottled ones as well. If you sign up for their club & eventually try 200 different beers, they'll put your name on the wall or ceiling. The catch is that they won't give you credit for more than 3 beers per day. The food was good: - rocket tots: 4 stars - chicken sandwich: 4 stars. Moist chicken, has avocado, what's not to like? - Nachos with bratwurst: really flavorful bratwurst; couldn't really taste any of the jalapenos We also tried their Sunday brunch: - Monte Cristo: 4 stars. pretty good, sweet & unique compared to most Monte Cristos that I've tried at other restaurants, BUT I don't think I'd get it again -- the whole thing is deep fried! good, but not quite worth the calories. it comes drizzled with strawberry sauce and with a side of strawberries, blueberries, and a dusting of powdered sugar. - San Jose pizza: 4 stars. good breakfast pizza (egg + sausage... what's not to like?) They have a basket of fries for only $1.50 -- a great steal. Flying Saucer staff who are reading this: DON'T GET RID OF THE $1.50 FRIES! There's both indoor and outdoor seating.
google avatar

Mandy L.

Yelp
Amazing vibe and great patio. Most of the places around it are pretty upscale, so this is the chillest patio on the block. Food is amazing and beer selection top notch. But if you're looking for liquor or wine they have just the basics. Service was so so, but I can't judge a place on one servers grumpy night! Still love the place!
google avatar

Whitney L.

Yelp
Ok so there are two things to know about Saucer. 1: Beer. If you're lucky enough to come here when they just got the new beers, there is a great selection of both common and rare beers. They have everything! Fancy $25 bottled beers, local, international, sours, all of it! If you're a beer connoisseur this is your place. Great brews like Avery and Brash are plentiful! 2: Food. The food is boring as hell. It's basically watered-down German food. Seasonings are non-existent here. Flavor is but a faint memory. We only come here for the beer, but we always seem to end up ordering food too. I've had almost everything on the menu. The bratzel only has like 4 slices of sausage on it. German plate has only a light sprinkle of sauerkraut. Dipster literally tastes like nothing at all - it's crazy. The pizza is your safest bet, and definitely the best thing on the menu!

Yelp
gets pretty busy here. the ambiance inside is pretty lively and upbeat. it's an ok bar overall.
