"Foggy Notion is one of those cute catch-all stores that stocks the best-of-the-best when it comes to easy treats and gifts. It’s the kind of spot you want to rummage through, lest you miss the Salty Caramels tucked at the back of a shelf. The edit here skews local and we’re partial to the Mira Blackman tie-dyed socks and baby onesies for new mama gifts. Stock up on hand-crafted, letterpress stationery while you’re at it. My absolute go-to for the *best* selection of candles, apothecary, really affordable vintage goods, basically anytime I need a gift for a friend (or myself!) Foggy always comes through. Their staff is consistently so kind and helpful, and just genuinely cool and community-oriented. Can’t recommend highly enough!

My husband made a sweet gesture and bought a candle from my favorite store, Foggy Notion, in the airport. He confirmed with the desk that he could exchange it at the store in the city since he knows I'm picky. Unfortunately, I didnt love the scent he chose. I made a trip into the city with the gift receipt to make an exchange for the exact same candle just a different scent. The employee scanned my gift certificate and couldnt find the item. Then she tried having my husband scan all of his credit cards, still couldnt find it. Since she couldn't get in contact with the owner personally and the PO system wasnt pulling it up she would not make the exchange, asking me to come by again a different day. I'm sorry, but I cant revolve my life around exchanging candle scents. I can't be more clear: I am looking to exchange the EXACT same candle, just get a different scent. He bought it 2 days ago. What an awful experience. It went from being my favorite place to someplace I will never go again. Why are you making it so hard? I don't know if the employee doesnt feel empowered to make judgement calls or what, but you lost a customer. It's apparently impossible to return or exchange even when it's two days from your purchase AND you have the gift receipt AND youre making an exchange for the exact same item.

Google
Great curated store to purchase all sorts of gifts in the Richmond.

Google
an incredible independent shop full of thoughtfully curated items from small businesses. Wonderful staff, what. great experience shopping here. Be sure to check their new location at SFO, what a treat to be able to purchase local goods from small brands at an airport! Best place to buy gifts.

Google
I started at Ariscault but ended up in Foggy Notion! Add this shop to your list of "buy local" if you're visiting SF, because it's a great shop full of candles, body products, and some other clothing and accessories, as well as some home goods.

Google
Foggy Notion is a true neighborhood gem. It’s my go- to for gifts, and I love the assorted vintage finds too. I just checked out their SFO location and picked up some gifts for friends on my way out of town. I’m so glad they are right around the corner!

Google
Very nicely curated selection of clothes, scented things, and gifty items. Reasonably priced. The clerks, one of whom may be the proprietor, were lovely and knowledgeable. A local biz worthy of support.

Yelp
When visiting San Francisco, I was on the hunt for some novelty and gift shops. Foggy Notion was a long strip of a couple different little shops, they had a bunch of home good focused items, including candles and soaps. They didn't have much of what I was looking for exactly but still had a good selection of stuff.

Yelp
This store smells amazing. I love the smell and the aesthetics of this place. They sell candles, lotions, sage, brushes, clothing, candles, incense, etc. I brought a candle wick scissor here a while back and uses it all the time. Recently brought some gifts and an opinel for picnic use. Small store with lots of good vibes. #women-ownedbusiness

Yelp
International Women's Day was a perfect day to support women owned businesses, especially when women of race, religion, color, LGBTQ, and disability, had done so much good for the rest of our communities. If there was one place that still opened during that day, it's Foggy Notion! When I spent so much time browsing every last handcrafted item, it made me remind myself that this is Renegade Craft Fair all over again. Candles, incense, socks, you name it! They're both sustainable and handmade by women with love. Never argue with successful efforts of working women. Their handcrafted items would surely benefit the buyer, despite how expensive they were. In my part, I only buy a few items, starting with a large pair of men's tie dye socks and a cylinder tin can of Chico Chai loose tea leaves. My first few purchases must be enough to keep this women owned business running. It's been a while since I made it to Inner Richmond before heading further towards home. The first pandemic had all of us sheltered in place. This time, we're all at ease, but we still wear face masks. I might be back to buy a particular item for my friend's bday or a holiday season.

Yelp
I just purchased some candles ( made in Hudson New York) for a special Rosh Hashana Dinner....Wonderful! Get some if they're still in stock. There are also a zillion cool gifts to buy as well. Jesse

Yelp
This is my spot to pick up plastic-free facewash, deodorant, moisturizer, and dish brushes. I also love their candles and it's the perfect spot to pick up a gift.

Yelp
Love Foggy Notion! It is my go to for gifts for my best friends birthdays! All the wonderful amazing candles, body products, bath salts... a perfect place to put together an amazing gift bag. I've ordered online too for times I can't make it over in person. Package arrived on time and beautifully arranged!

Yelp
Came in to find one crystal because I was astonished by the reviews to this place, and walked out with 6! Considering this is one of the biggest crystal shops in the bay area, I'm really impressed. From crystals, to incense, to clothing, and more! The workers were so welcoming, and the cashier (forgot her name) threw in some freebies and a big discount for my crystals! Definitely will come back and bring my friends who share the same passion

Yelp
Foggy Notion is such a cute and unique store. I love how they sell low waste and earth conscious items. I absolutely love the Meow Meow Tweet lip balm, it definitely does the trick for chapped lips. You could also find low waste bathroom supplies like bamboo toothbrushes, bar soaps, plastic free lotion and sun lotion. Foggy notion also sells clothing that's second hand. I definitely recommend checking out foggy notion!

Yelp
I needed a last-minute gift for a friend and was in a bind. Luckily, I found Foggy Notion! They have the most unique and interesting gifts, many with a local bent. I ordered a small stainglass piece and earrings. The website was easy to navigate and find beautiful pieces. Since I live within range, the company delivered the pieces to my door within 24 hours. I was able to provide the gift with enough time to spare! I'm so grateful for small businesses like Foggy Notion that provide access to local artists. I will definitely go to them for my Christmas shopping and encourage you to check them out for your gifting needs!

Yelp
Nice little shop for gifts. Lots of good smelling things and natural, refillable potions/lotions for skin. I bought a natural bug spray, lavender linen spray, and some lip balm for gifts.

Yelp
Currently sitting in class wishing I was at Foggy Notion purchasing a Guv'ner record and some overpriced soaps. I'm usually bored to tears by the many hipster artisanal boutiques that pop up around notable streets in SF, but Foggy Notion caters exactly to my aesthetic: someone who's idea of the perfect vacation is roadtripping to a high end lodge in the Pacific Northwest complete with a fully vegan restaurant and spa. Then telling everyone they went camping. I refuse to dress myself in anything produced after 1999, and though it may be small, Foggy Notion offers a good selection of reasonably priced vintage clothing. Also the logo merchandise they print on vintage blanks are actually high quality and cute. They deserve five stars for this alone because most small business logos are ugly as shit. Sometimes they burn incense in there and it literally smells like the woods (or at least a rich college girl's idea of what the woods smells like). Looking forward to my next visit, as well as seeing what they bring to Clementime this year.

Yelp
UPDATE below Okay products, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Recently, I've been upset by two things here. The first one is that my partner got me an essential oil here by Juniper ridge, they say that the store associate refused to get them a new one from the one on display. My partner just accepted this, and they got the oil half full, with a clear mark on the bottle that showed that a drop had slid out of the bottle. When I tried to open it at home immediately after they got home I realized that it had already been opened. The second thing that upsets me about this store is that the store associates (or owner perhaps) aren't always kind and patient, they have an unwelcoming demeanor, which is ultimately why we didn't go to return the essential oil. I don't want to have a discussion with people like that. We will just simply never come back or recommend it. You can see here the bottle less than half full, and the seal appears not broken but I think it had been opened and the plastic bit just didn't separate if you get what I mean. UPDATE: I got refunded for this essential oil. The owner was very fast in responding to my complaint, which is nice. I hope that they are able to improve their customer service to avoid cases like this in the future. As a former associate at a bookstore, I know first hand that brick and mortar businesses have a hard time keeping up with the times, and customer service makes all the difference as it is precisely why one would go to a real store and not just shop online. Customer experience is vital!

Yelp
If you're looking to support a slew of local businesses during this pandemic- - check out Foggy Notion's online store.  Foggy Notion is pure magic. Alissa has curated the most exceptional products made with wonderful ingredients and a wealth of love.   From natural face products, to adaptogen elixirs, to soothing teas, to fragrant chocolates, to handmade jewelry, simple ceramics, bohemian bags - and so much more - the selection of gifts - she has assembled in one store - for yourself and for others -  is a delight to browse. I just bought some natural make-up glow products, a bottle of refreshing essential oil spray, and some Goldmine Adaptogen Powder. All made by incredible women. Send a unique gift basket to yourself or to someone you love (Mother's Day is quickly approaching). Visit Foggy Notion's website -  https://squareup.com/market/foggy-notion and fill up your online cart. Trust.

Yelp
I just moved in around the corner from this shop and had been eagerly waiting for their doors to reopen (due to COVID). I stopped in last weekend and it did not disappoint! There is just something about the whole vibe in there--whoever does the buying (I'm assuming the owner?) has impeccable taste. I found this shop to have just about every one of my personal favorite home fragrance lines (candles, incense, oils) and came across so many other neat 'bohemian' style art and deco.

Yelp
Foggy Notion is absolutely amazing. I ordered for local delivery a gift for my dad's birthday, and they proactively emailed me to make sure the gift included the items I needed since one item was out of stock. My dad later sent a photo of his gifts, and it included a hand written card with two foxes on the cover (our last name is fox). The extra mile for the personal touch was just so heart warming, and I didn't even ask for an additional card. When I have shopped in person I really appreciated the COVID guidance they adhered to (at the time in 2021) to ensure the safety of their shoppers, and always found the quality of their items exceptional. This store is exactly what you look for in a local general store: cozy, local, personal, and special. This is my favorite store to return home to!

Sherissa G.

Yelp
Gorgeous selection of locally made goods and reasonably priced vintage clothing. You can tell the owners truly care about the curation of products--it's a treat just to browse the whole place.

Yelp
Maybe my favorite store in Inner Richmond- perfect little gifts for your holistic friend: teas, candles, ceramic mugs, journals, the best smelling incense, delicate earrings and more) include vintage pots and candle holders)! Wonderfully curated!

Yelp
Cutest store ever! I bought some "drinking chocolate" as a gift for a friend, can't wait to try them with her. P.S. The owner's a gem of a person. : )

Yelp
Love this shop! Glad they relocated to a space that is more visible. Happened to meet the owner one night as I was browsing. She was def friendly and gave me a great neighborhood merchant vibe. I browsed and ended up picking up a bunch of gifts. Great, locally made products. Lots of natural stuff. Especially love Basik products.

Yelp
Incredible local woman owned small business!!! I never have any issues with finding the most perfect purchases for any occasion here. Her selection of makers is beyond!!!! The products carried here are extremely well made & the owner has the sharpest eye for good looking packaging. I have gotten countless birthday & holiday gifts here over the years and they always end up being everyone's favorite. Thank goodness for a well curated online store with delivery that certainly reflects the charming SF physical location. This shop will be around for a very very long time.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this place. Besides it smelling superb every time I go in, the owner always has great music playing, and it's always got incredible vibes going on. I'm *SO* glad they've been able to stay open and accessible during covid. I can't imaging how many hoops they've had to jump through, and their customer service is still on point. Alissa, the owner, even wrapped up a couple items I was getting for a friend's birthday gift--on the house ! TONS of incredible apothecary and home goods items available, all beautifully packaged and displayed so intently. My fav is the Hair Powder Dry Shampoo and those PF Candles I can't get enough of. Plus they have plants and a cool little section of custom printed vintage tees--hooray! for upcycled, already-worn-in tees ! Can't wait to go back ! Yay for local little shops like this !!
google avatar

wendy s.

Yelp
LOVE this shop! They carry my favorite oil (everyday oil) as well as PF candles. They always have someone super friendly working that is always willing to help out. They also carry a wide variety of goods so you can always find something new and interesting.

Yelp
Truly one of the best stores in the neighborhood. Friendliest staff, wonderful diversity of candles and potions, and locally made gifts. Pro tip - pop in on Sunday morning during the Clement St Farm Market. Also--help out during tough economic times! We placed an order for local delivery and the shipping costs are being donated to neighborhood groups in need. Buy candles, lotions, and gifts for any upcoming needs.
google avatar

Yelp
They went above and beyond to help me make my friend's birthday during Covid extra special. I'm out of state and she lives near the store so they made sure the candle I ordered was hand delivered to her on her birthday. She was overjoyed to have her favorite scent that reminds her of vacation.

Matt R.

Yelp
Best shop ever! Beautifully curated shop full of high-quality goods. No junk! Helpful and knowledgeable staff. And they have the best-smelling hand sanitizer on the planet.

Yelp
It's friendly and helpful small businesses like Foggy Notion that remind me that San Francisco is still a wonderful and creative place to be. From plants to candles, to handmade mugs for my tea, this shop knows me well!!! Thanks for all the smiling masked faces during these trying times.

Vacation S.

Yelp
Man I love Foggy Notion!! So many locally made things that you can get for the hone and for self care- it's amazing to be able to shop local, and support local makers all at the same time! Love you Foggy Notion!!!

Yelp
A cute neighborhood gem selling local items, including honey made from bees in Golden Gate Park! The staff are just super duper nice. Definitely check out their website for special events! I went to the Valentine's event and they were serving treats!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
I LOVE Foggy Notion. It's really hard to find products with clean ingredients that also have responsible (compostable) packaging and this cute little shop has a great selection. I come here for my meow meow tweet deodorant and other household items but always leave with a little extra something because their shop of candles and accessories is irresistible. Love this place and everything is represents!
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Cute little neighborhood shop with lots of locally made products. I've gotten a few of my friends gifts from here because everything is so unique and made consciously!

Mabel E.

Yelp
I love this shop! They have so many handcrafted and natural products, from fantastic fragrant room sprays (who couldn't use a "cloud of protection" spray right now or a little spritz of forest or sage?), ceramics, indigo dyed woven scarves, jewelry, preserves. Well considered selection of things and wonderful gift shopping destination!

Mary S.

Yelp
Felt unwelcome. If you're going to limit people in your store due to Covid. Fine! But there is a nicer way to do it. The woman behind counter didn't do that. Based on first impression, won't be back.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
I was very pleased with the service and face oil I purchased from this shop! I needed a good moisturizer for my aging skin and the owner was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. She has fantastic products and the prices are reasonable. I now have a trusted place to go to for apothecary advice and products :)
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
Foggy Notion is my go-to place for local, California-made, natural gift items (Ok sometimes they're gifts for other people and sometimes they're gifts for myself, if I'm being honest). I have primarily bought candles and apothecary products here but they also carry some incredible local artists and accessories. It's artfully curated - there is so much to look at but at the same time the store feels airy and open (and smells great - of course.) The staff are always knowledgeable and friendly.

Nicole C.

Yelp
This store has an awesome selection of products and a good ambiance. I've been in several times and have always had good interactions with the owner and staff. However, on my most recent visit, I ran into a hiccup. I was smelling tester essential oils and accidentally smelled a bottle that was not a tester. The owner came up to me and scolded me saying that I'd contaminated it and now she could no longer sell it. I was super apologetic and offered to pay for anything I'd accidentally contaminated. I was a bit embarrassed as this happened in front of other customers. She sold it to me 50% off, but I just felt really bad about the whole thing. I would HIGHLY recommend being super duper thorough in spotting what is and isn't a tester. When I got home I realized that the oil bottle did in fact have a seal on it that was broken well before I put my hands on it. I'd have noticed if I'd broken the safety seal by accident and have enough integrity to admit my mistake and purchase said product. So I was left with paying for a product that I didn't want that was now contaminated by someone else and the store owner was out 50% of the sale for that product. This was in the end completely my fault and I'm not mad at the owner. I just wanted to make sure others don't make the same mistake.

Yelp
Pros: The shop is really cute and really small. The lady working that day was super sweet and even hooked me up with free catnip for my Yelp check-in! I like the idea that many things seem to come from local vendors and support good causes. Cons: The location is definitely a whole in the wall kind of place and is inside this mall-ish strip so it can be a little difficult to spot. The place is SMALL so that definitely limits your selection. And I do like the idea of support local vendors but things are quite pricey... or rather REALLY pricey. Overall: A cute place to check-out but don't expect to find any great deals.

Yelp
I can't thank these angels enough! I live in Long Beach and my daughter lives in SF.....she got sick and I wanted to send her a get well gift of natural healing tonics, balms and teas. Called Travis on a Saturday and he put everything together for me. Although she didn't live in the regular delivery area, the owner still graciously delivered the gift bag to her the next day. They went above and beyond and I am so grateful. Please, please give this wonderful shop your business.

Yelp
I had been noticing this little store on my way to work this last week. Turns out they just opened last Tuesday! I bought a soap/lotion dispenser made out of an old blue mason jar. It was on the higher priced side (24 dollars) but it was very pretty and I really wanted it and I was really excited to support an exciting new store. I have been wanting to buy bulk hand soap, so now I can get excited about its container. Yay! As Tom Haverford says, "Treat yo self." I couldn't agree more. That should probably be this shop's motto because all of the wares are treats. I love the chunky succulent plants they have, and the whole design scheme is clean and crisp and cool. The owner makes wallets and bunting and small bags out of old tennis racket bags. Neato! I will definitely be making this a regular after work stop and I can foresee many great things to come for Foggy Notion! Welcome to the neighborhood!

suzanne c.

Yelp
I have lived in the Richmond District for almost a decade, and shopped here from time-to-time for special gifts that are unique and high quality. I stopped by last Tuesday, and the shop-keeper was Laura. She added such an amazing element to Foggy Notion. Personable, friendly, yet professional - a breath of fresh air in a world where people need more than ever to feel a connection where they spend their time and money. I love their unique jewelry selection from local designers, and look forward to attending the trunk show of Monica Squitieri next Saturday to purchase a pair of her earrings!
google avatar

Yelp
What a great find right off of Clement Street. Beautiful locally made goods, lovely owner and the sought after Fox and Lion bread that's only available by subscription on Thursdays. Foggy Notion is one of the few shops that carries the bread. If you're looking for small batch goods with a local slant, step into the oasis of Foggy Notion.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Such a cool store- what more is there to say?! I could spend hours looking at all their unique items, smelling candles, and trying lotions and potions... definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Katy A.

Yelp
The selection at Foggy Notion is so good that I've been dreaming of the bags, air plants and wallets there since I went a while back. It's a little gem that people have yet to pounce on and I totally suggest that you do before everyone find the treasures inside.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! Such a great little shop. I bought a soy candle there and it is incredible...the scent is amber and moss from the Pomme Frites Candle Co. It burns well, no black smoke, and it smells up my whole place very noticeably but not over the top. This is a great place if you're looking for a unique gift that's good quality at a fair price. They have all kinds of cool stuff for men and women...oils, candles, small leather goods, lotions, fragrances. Alissa is the brains behind the magic and she's sweetest! She's a Libra so that is even cooler. Support this place, I want it here forever!
google avatar

Kari L.

Yelp
Walked in to take a look, since I had parked nearby to do errands in the area. Apparently the 2 girls working there were more interested in taking photos of themselves (seriously!) and giggling over their phones than to greet me or answer my questions. Maybe I didn't look like someone willing to spend $40 on a soy candle, or a $35 "balm." I was interested in the locally made bath and body products but after looking around and being completely ignored (they were a few feet from me the entire time, it's a tiny store) and feeling awkward, I realized these overpriced "handmade" products were ones I could make myself (ingredients were nothing special) and typical hippie dippie crap. Sorry, I wanted to support a small business but do not think this place will last as they seem to be nice to some people and not others, and their products are not unique or high quality to justify the prices.

Yelp
Foggy Notion is a must visit when in the neighborhood. Wonderful selection of top quality apothecary goods with highly knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Yelp
A lovely little shop with locally made gifts. Decent price range. Friendly folks, too!

Yelp
Foggy Notion has such a cool selection of SF made goods. It also has some small batch items from other places as well. They carry The Balm, Fire Cider and The Cloud of Protection. It is quite a fascinating selection of potions and elixirs. If shopping locally is important or interesting to you then dont miss this gem!
