Fogo de Chão Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"Fogo de Chão is an international chain where you’ll find a $25 shrimp cocktail served in a massive Midtown space that feels like the set from a Michael Bay-directed Oceans 14. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way - you should go to Fogo de Chão. Specifically, you should go with people who really like meat, and everyone should do the $70 churrasco experience. Once you sit down with a plate of feijoada and sides, round after round of filet mignon, pork and beef picanha, and a dozen other meats will arrive on spits ready to be sliced onto your plate, cooked to whatever doneness you prefer." - Matt Tervooren

I have been to several fogos including two in South America, but I must say that the one here in the capital of this beautiful country of Mexico has been superb. From the moment that I walked in I was treated like royalty. I must mention some standouts. I was greeted with the utmost courteousness by Luis and Jovanni, and I recommend this Fogo in the beautiful city of Mexico to everyone reading this review.

Been to Fogo de Chao all over the world including Brazil. This was the best, a bit smaller but good atmosphere, excellent service and the food and especially the meat was amazing. You’re never waiting for another meat dish to come around and wait staff are very attentive. My favorite is picania and theirs was perfect. Best of all this was very cheap compared with to other Fogos I’ve been to. 699 pesos for all you can eat and 320 if you just want the salad bar (my wife is vegetarian) is pretty good, especially for prices in the Polanco area. I’d pay $70 Canadian for Churrasco in Canada. Will definitely be back if I feel like a decent steak.

Amazing experience! As a Brazilian, I can say all the cuts were well prepared, great variety and nice salad bar. Luís was super friendly. All the staff was fantastic, very polite and helpful. Muchas gracias!!

I’ve been to Dallas locations and Miami, but, Mexico City had to be the best one. Super attentive staff, great service by our waiter, management always on top of things. Had a great time with my family. Out of all the places in this city, I have to always recommend this place. Meat temperatures were excellent and salad bar was fresh.

Service was excellent. They never stopped coming with the meat and we didn’t have to wait. Atmosphere was good and beautiful. Food was ok. I didn’t really like the salad buffet. All of it was cold and nothing was really tasty. The meat was good and medium as I like it. Just it was way too salty. Dulce de leche dessert was tasty. Price of 40$ for the meat was ok. However, 20$ for a glass of wine (house wine) / 50$ for a bottle were both very high.

Great experience! Since the welcome to the restaurant to the goodbye has been such an experience. Misael gave us an extraordinary service, with great suggestions and so kind all the time. Food was great and they have a very good selection of wines for all budgets. Misael suggest some drinks which were a perfect choice! Given the service I will come back for sure.

I’ve been visiting this place for 4 years. The service has always been decent—but only when I’m accompanied by male friends. When I dine alone, it’s consistently dismissive. Today, after exactly 1 hour, service practically stopped. No more meat came my way, and all the waiters who were previously polite began avoiding eye contact. If there’s a time limit on service, it should be clearly stated—and not enforced selectively. I deliberately waited 35 minutes to see if anyone would check in, offer more cuts, or simply ask if everything was okay. During that time, I was completely ignored. The tables around me were being served consistently. The only time someone approached was when they assumed I wanted the bill. I also asked several times for rare cuts, and kept receiving medium rare instead. I have no interest to eat what I do not desire, so I cut off most of the meat and throw them away. If a solo diner tipping 15% isn’t “worth” your attention, then just say so. I’ve genuinely loved this place in the past, but this kind of selective service is not enjoyable.

Google
My waiter Misael was nothing less than excellent, addressing all my requests and genuinely caring about me having a good experience. Food was great but I came with the highest of expectations, which is a demand difficult to satisfy, which prevents me to give them a full 5/5 on food but definitely worth another visit.

Yelp
What I most loved about the experience was being able to try a little bit of everything without having to think about the price. It was a great experience. The servings of meat are cut very small but are brought to the table frequently. The filet mignon was so soft that it practically melted in my mouth. I thought it could have been a little less salty in hindsight. I recommend the rib of lamb and baby beef steak. I liked that the bathrooms were very clean. The salads and cheeses were world class as well. I specifically recommend coming here frequently if you can get a coupon. I came hungry and left very very full. The service was wonderful in that there appeared to be multiple staff per table so I felt that it was amazing every step of the way. Even an English speaking manager came out to greet us too. Regarding opportunities for this to go to the next level, I felt that the filet mignon could have less salt. I thought the initial serving sizes could have been a little larger and then later in the evening I felt the serving sizes could be smaller to minimize waste. Overall, it was a wonderful date night experience that I would recommend for any couple.

Yelp
This is a chain but I was not impressed. We went on a Saturday for lunch, they had Feijoada in their buffet with same farofa that was mediocre, beans and the salad bar didn't look very fresh and we arrived early like at 1:00. I ordered a salmon with maracujá sauce and didn't taste like passion fruit at all.

Yelp
We have dined at Fogo de Chao at least 40 times over the last 12 years in Houston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Bellevue, Portland, San Jose, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Mexico City was our 10th location. We came here on Christmas Eve for lunch. Because of this, it's possible our experience was atypical. Service: very attentive and good. Market table: same quality as most other locations, perhaps very slightly below FDC average. Ambiance: this location is poorly built. The quality of seats, tables, bathrooms are all old and beat up. It needs to be renovated. Meat: we got the market table plus single selection of meat because we didn't want the full experience over lunch. We picked fraldinha, bottom sirloin. This was a disaster. They brought a skewer of fraldinha that was tired and old. It had only a thin bit of very well done meat. The server sliced off strips of this for us and we ate it. Not many people were in the restaurant, 2 other groups. We felt bad to complain and ask for a fresh piece of meat that would be thicker and therefore closer to medium. We ended up eating this well done awful steak. Also the fried potatoes (they don't have mashed potatoes at this location or at least not on this day), fried polenta and fried bananas were all served in half size portions to our group and tasted stale as though they'd been fried half hour ago. Then after we were essentially full, they brought around a buck thick fresh fraldinha to another table. This is the worst Fogo de Chao we've ever been to. We paid and left a standard tip and didn't express our concerns because they didn't ask "how was your meal?" I regret dining here during our trip to Mexico City. The rest of our meals will be at locally owned establishments.

Yelp
Arrived on a Sunday evening around 8pm. Plenty of open seating and we were seated right away. The server immediately welcomed us and took our drink order. The salad bar has a variety of options but a little lackluster. I wish they had a better soup choice (was a tomato broth of some type). Everything at the bar was fresh and prepared properly. The meat selection was superb. The meat was seated and seasoned to perfection. The meat choices came fast and furious and there was little time to breathe between cuts. Several garnishes were included at the table and of course those delicious cheesy breads. The server was prompt and kept the glasses full. New plates were exchanged for used ones on a regular basis. The caprihina was excellent and just one glass will knock your shoes off. Excellent experience and would definitely recommend to others. The staff also spoke English for the foreign visitors.

Yelp
It was our last night in Mexico City and we were craving for some vegetables. Don't interpret this the wrong way - during our 1-week visit we had some of the best food, but we felt we hardly ate vegetables the entire week. I spotted this Fogo de Chao on Yelp and we thought: Great! We'll have lots of meat and lots of vegetables. It was a Monday night and it wasn't very busy in the restaurant. Our server was super friendly; he even told us he has been with Fogo de Chao for many years and he has moved for the company on several occasions, including to Las Vegas. He was chatty without being intrusive and sincerely friendly. The food was delicious. Vegetables were fresh and staff kept replacing dishes from the buffet that were almost empty. They were on top of things. The meats were great, except for the sausage. Ours was superdry, all the juices were cooked out of it. We were unlucky; I later saw a new batch of sausages that looked much more appetizing. It didn't really bother us; we were more interested in the other meats. We had a wonderful time at Fogo de Chao. The restaurant is located in a nice street with lots of restaurants. Unfortunately we didn't get to explore the area of Polanco much during our stay. Hopefully next time...

Yelp
Great service and amazing experience! You CAN please everyone with their incredible market table and choreography of meats. There are even seafood options. PS the bread bites are gluten free!

Yelp
My husband I had dinner here tonight and everything was fine until we received the bill. I told the waiter how much tip to add to the total. When he gave me the receipt to sign he had added another 62 Peso. I ask him how did he make this mistake since I had wrote down the amount to charge my credit card. He left and came back with another waiter who said what the problem it only another $5.00 US dollars. I explained it was not the waiter job to spend my money. Then they said they would just give me $5.00 US dollars, then they said they couldn't give me any money they would void it. I did not want to give them my credit card again since I was leaving Mexico the next day. Please be advised if you are a tourist do not give them your credit card pay in Peso. This left me with such bad feeling I can not recommend this restaurant to tourists.

Yelp
Delicious food, attentive service, nice atmosphere inside. Was costly but worth it especially for the meats they had. The buffet had some nice salads, fruits, veggies, and cheeses for those who don't eat meat.
