I'd been hearing about Folgarelli's for years, so Nate and I finally checked it out on a recent work trip to Traverse City. The shop is a specialty grocery/snack shop with a sandwich/deli counter.
I knew I wanted a sandwich and had fun looking around at the different stuff they had for sale - pasta, canned items, cold beverages, and more. It's definitely a great spot to pick up picnic supplies if you're heading to the beach. It's a bit crowded with shelves and people waiting for their orders, but it's charming and full of character.
The sandwich menu is huge, and a bit overwhelming. I appreciated that they had paper menus so we could review before ordering. Nate and I got the Mobster (Mortadella, capicola, genoa salami, provolone, soppresatta, lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers, Italian dressing on ciabatta), and picked up some chips, drinks, and a peanut butter cookie. I like that they ring you up at the deli counter, then you can pay for everything and just wait for your name to be called as they finish making your sandwich.
There are a few tables inside, but a nice employee told us about the back patio area, which turned out to be a great idea, as it was perfectly shaded and a bit breezy.
The sandwich was a generous size with tons of meat and cheese. It was a good size for us to share, and a bit messy but so delicious. I prefer a softer bread as the ciabatta was a little tough but still tasty. I'd definitely come back for more sandwiches!
