"As Traverse City evolves and more exciting new options throw open their doors, it can be too easy to accidentally forget about the old standards — like Folgarelli’s. The thing is, this decades-old market is still home to one of the best lunches in town. While the area-named sandwiches (think: Leelanau with London broil and swiss cheese or the West Bay with smoked salmon and local cheese spread) can be tempting, we know it’s actually the Godfather you want. Loaded with capicola, prosciutto, roasted peppers, pesto and Italian dressing, this classic is the offer you can’t refuse. Grab a few specialty groceries and a bottle of chianti while you’re there." - Stacey Brugeman

Google
Absolute must stop spot in Traverse City. Legit Deli with everything your looking for. Very cool vibes in there with a lot of fresh product to choose from. House made product and a lot of local stuff. Very nice wine cellar in the back. The sandwiches are huge and at a great price, would highly recommend the Godfather. Will be back everytime I come to Traverse City for sure.

Ordered a charcuterie tray for some friends visiting Omena. No special requests and the platter was over flowing w goodness that an authentic Italian deli can created. Only pic b4 we devoted

Google
Amazing sandwiches (seriously, so incredible. That bread is something magical). The selection of meats and cheeses is impeccable and made for a great sandwich no matter which one you get. Service was quick, though we came back the next day and the wait was over an hour, so it must vary greatly. Nice market with unique offerings and a nice wine selection. We are glad we stopped by and gave this place a try!

Google
The best sandwich ever!!!! Fresh product, amazing bread and cooked to perfection! Not many places live up to the hype, this one does!!! On top of the AMAZING sandwich, we got a really yummy dip and PERFECT bread and a bottle of wine for home. The wine selection is superb, found multiple bottles that I’ve only ever seen at the actual wineries in Napa. Go, don’t question it, wait if there’s a wait? JUST GO!!!!

Google
Folgarelli’s has the best deli sandwiches in town. It’s owned by the same family who originally opened it so there’s quite a bit of history there. Not only can you get customized deli sandwiches but they also offer catering options, market items, and wine! Check online and see when they do wine tasting, because that’s quite an experience!

Google
Drove from Grand Rapids to get a couple of the Godfather subs. Great sub, very tasty and high-quality meats. Stopped in last weekend later on a Saturday, so it was not very busy. Very fast service. I only wish they were closer to Grand Rapids, but well worth the drive.

Google
Coolest place. Like a real Italian deli. All sandwiches are fantastic. I like to add double turkey to increase the filling so we can eat 1/2 for lunch and 1/2 for a later meal. The quality is tops. In any major city these sandwiches are about $3 more. So, we love it. Everyone in town loves it. We all agree .

Yelp
I'd been hearing about Folgarelli's for years, so Nate and I finally checked it out on a recent work trip to Traverse City. The shop is a specialty grocery/snack shop with a sandwich/deli counter. I knew I wanted a sandwich and had fun looking around at the different stuff they had for sale - pasta, canned items, cold beverages, and more. It's definitely a great spot to pick up picnic supplies if you're heading to the beach. It's a bit crowded with shelves and people waiting for their orders, but it's charming and full of character. The sandwich menu is huge, and a bit overwhelming. I appreciated that they had paper menus so we could review before ordering. Nate and I got the Mobster (Mortadella, capicola, genoa salami, provolone, soppresatta, lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers, Italian dressing on ciabatta), and picked up some chips, drinks, and a peanut butter cookie. I like that they ring you up at the deli counter, then you can pay for everything and just wait for your name to be called as they finish making your sandwich. There are a few tables inside, but a nice employee told us about the back patio area, which turned out to be a great idea, as it was perfectly shaded and a bit breezy. The sandwich was a generous size with tons of meat and cheese. It was a good size for us to share, and a bit messy but so delicious. I prefer a softer bread as the ciabatta was a little tough but still tasty. I'd definitely come back for more sandwiches!

Yelp
What can I say , everything we visit Traverse City , Folgarelli's is a must for Godfather sandwiches and Pasta,Olives, Olive Oil. Service is always great . Ambiance is wonderful. We always drop a bundle of true Italian food to bring home to Saint Joe. Got to check out the fresh meats and cheeses and pizza flours.

Cary C.

Yelp
Awesome selection of freshly made sandwiches, Italian staples, and wines. A piece of Italia in TC. I think as a young person growing up in TC, this wasn't the spot for me, but it had always maintained a great reputation as a unique and classy establishment. As a returning tourist, it has the magnetic attraction that gives a town some character beyond the generic American-fare.

Yelp
Every time we come to traverse city we make a point to stop at Folgarellis. Super cute Italian shop, very cozy and they have a lot of wines and Italian goods available. It was during lunchtime so there was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. My fiance and I got the Italian Club to split. They're a really good size so one was definitely enough for a quick lunch. The sub was amazing - the pesto mayo is fabulous. We will be back!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Omgeeee!!! Such a delicious sandwich - i got the sicilian w artichokes and roasted peppers. The artichokes were so juicy and tangy and good to me. It's a wait but worth it without a doubt! Great quality of products you can really taste.

Yelp
Folgarelli's is a MUST when you're in Traverse City!! I got a warm, panini sub that was absolutely amazing. It took about 20 minutes to make but everything was so fresh and delicious. They have seating inside and outside on two different patios. They also have a great selection of Italian groceries and wine! Highly recommend!

Ethan Y.

Yelp
[Folgarelli's] Local market and wine shop in Traverse City, MI. We were specially interested in the sandwiches. They hit after a day of climbing sand. I could not tell you what half these sandwiches are but I know the super meaty one was the Mobster. Bussing. 8/10. https://www.folgarellis.net/sandwich-menu 424 W Front St Traverse City, MI 49684

Yelp
Fantastic service and the options are so amazing it's almost overwhelming! Had the mobster and my girlfriend had the Sicilian. Both were great! The cannolis are absolutely essential if you stop here.

Amanda L.

Yelp
This market and wine shop was recommended to me by my friend who says she always snags a sandwich from here each time she comes into the Traverse City area! I love that this place is 90% shop and 10% ordering counter and sandwich making. You can call ahead and place your order or come in and do it. Just depending on the time of day, you might want to call ahead with it because when I placed my order they gave me an ETA of 20 minutes. The Folgarelli's menu is truly incredible! There are SOOOO many options of different sandwiches you can try - almost an overwhelming amount - but I had so much fun narrowing it down and definitely know that I need to come back here to try more and different ones each time!! I can't even remember which sandwich I had, but I can tell you that it was SO DELICIOUS! It was one that definitely had more ingredients on it than not, but truly every single ingredient needed to be there because it all came together in the most perfect way and was so harmonious. I could taste every item and you could tell that every single item was also just the greatest quality as well! This place doesn't mess around with their meats, breads, cheeses, condiments, or anything else! Folgarelli's, you've got a new fan! This shop is incredible and they also sell so many artisanal and unique things here. I wish I lived in TC and could do some grocery shopping here because I just KNOW I would be able to make some proper Italian-based dishes using so many of the ingredients here!! Highly recommend this place both for their sandwiches and for their pantry and grocery essentials!! Love Folgarelli's! And love that they are located right as you're entering downtown TC, but are right on the outskirts where they can still have the space to have a whole parking lot next to them - shared with other businesses like North Peak Brewing right next door!

Yelp
Our family was there for the 4th of July week for 4 days and stopped on the way into town to pick some up based on the Yelp reviews. These sandwiches were fantastic! Particulary Uncle Guido and the Godfather. We would have picked up some on the 4th as well, but they were closed. We did order a second time on the trip.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Friendly staff and a huge variety of sandwich options. We only wished about 10 -15 minutes for out sandwich's and they were definitely worth the wait.

Marc P.

Yelp
Great local market with over 30 sandwiches to choose from. We ordered sandwiches to go and took them on our wine tour for the day! Don't forget to add in a couple of their home baked cookies!

Jessica M.

Yelp
If it was possible to give more than 5 stars.. I would. Words can not fully describe how delicious the sandwich's are here. There are over 40 on the menu, and if I lived closer I would spend my days trying each and every one. We got the big guido, which is HUGE. My husband and I split it, and half was still a lot for me. We also did The Godfather and it was just as delicious. The house made pesto is to die for, and a pro tip? Do the Italian dressing on the side so if you don't eat the whole sandwich it's not super soggy for later. The market has so many things to shop, and daily items in the deli area. We snagged some chicken salad which was good, but the NY antipasto salad? A work of art. So so so good! The cannolis looked Devine, and there was a great selection of beers and wines to shop from. A must stop in the area, you won't regret it!

Cameron G.

Yelp
Yesterday my wife and I hired Folgarelli's to cater a wedding open House at our home. Pizza cooked on site with salad and a charcuterie Board was the menu and it was presented flawlessly! Lauren and Cole were outstanding on site. We highly recommend them!

Hayley C.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches! The mobster was big enough to share between two people. The friendly staff even gave our dog some snacks as we waited outside. Highly recommend!

Christopher C.

Yelp
So many sandwich choices it was hard to choose - had the Big Tony and it was great! Service and store offerings wonderful too. The cookies and biscotti are also excellent-- chewy and delicious!

Annette J.

Yelp
It's a small market but packs a great punch with deliciously curated Italian and european specialities. Stopped in real quick to grab some snacks and sandwiches to take back to our rental house and it was as great as I remembered it. We picked up some delicious salami, a few tasty cheeses, crackers, a few canned wine cocktails, jams, and three sandwiches for dinner. I had Italian club and it was SOOOO good. Filled with capicolla, genoa salami, crispy pancetta, provolone, lettuce, tomato, pepperoncini with pesto mayo, it was super hearty and I just about got two meals out of it. A must stop whenever you're in the area!

TOM W.

Yelp
Always a top-notch deli. Sandwich variety is wide and varied and I have tried many. Huge cookies but they will run out. Pot pie/cheeses/wine/frozen seafood and on and on. A special place and you get what you pay for and then some. Heading there once again as I type this. Ann Arbor has Zingerman's;TC has a match w the Big F ... and then some. Great shop.

Christine S.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches. Tried three and all scrumptious. Each was enough to split and share or for two meals ( yet so delicious you think about eating it all at once ). Would definitely be a regular if we lived here. Even though it's " only sandwiches" basically, still think it was best meal here.

jason s.

Yelp
This place is worth the trip to TC! I am planning out this years Bayshore marathon and said to wife we HAVE to go back to that Italian shop for lunch, realized I didn't review it last year and here we are! Made to order sandwiches, lots of vegetarian options, awesome wine selection. See you in a few weeks and I'm bringing about 20 runners with me

Bill B.

Yelp
Great food, fair pricing. Have been giving gift baskets for a few years for my sisters, and they love them. Ask for Dawn.. Five stars.

Emily G.

Yelp
Best sandwiches ever!! Loved The Sicilian. The mozzarella was so fresh and delicious. Staff was super friendly. They were out of quite a few items but just goes to show how fresh everything is, they don't compromise on quality and it shows!

Mark C.

Yelp
I miss being able to go there since moving to Florida. All of the sandwiches are great . Best people and the nicest staff . Great location easy in and out . Love the big cookies . Hi to the staff .

Donny W.

Yelp
This place was talked up and I loved how extensive the sandwich menu was. There is lots of seating outside and it's a great place to have a seat and a bite. I ordered the meatball sub and while it tasted okay, the bread was super hard. Toasted and pressed, not my type but I would try another one.

Susan S.

Yelp
I highly recommend the lasagna. Best I ever had. Staff is extremely helpful if you need any assistance or suggestions

Madeline H.

Yelp
A true TC staple. Grabbed sandwiches/beverages here and headed to the lake. Still thinking about the Alaskan Angler sub!

Shayne R.

Yelp
Delicious, authentic sandwiches with super fresh ingredients. Fresh salads and pasta as well. This is the perfect place to build a charcuterie board or gift basket. Good selection of alcohol, seafood, and coffee too.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Fantastic food. Fresh and so good! Great place to stop on vacation in TC for a quick lunch or supplies for Lunch/dinner.

Tiffany Z.

Yelp
In the warehouse district. Nice walk trough town to arrive at this Italian deli gem. I've spend much time in Italy and seen many of the same brands carried and cheeses. The sandwich's are so good. Not ugly huge like a chain sandwich place but gourmet and high quality meats. The bread is delicious! As I pay I see homemade pizzelle and need to try one (or three). Just finished them and this was what inspired me to write the review. Thin, crisp and FULL of flavor. I recommend the anise. A lot of things are good and well worth the price but I was fully sold once I ate the pizzelle.

Bryan C.

Yelp
Best sandos in TC. Hands down. Worth the wait, worth the price. Treat yo' self. They also have a wonderful cut and wrap cheese/meat case that features some amazing options if you're looking to build a charcuterie board or just want to upgrade your daily consumption. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Great pantry and wine offerings. 10/10. Would shop daily.

Matt C.

Yelp
This is hands down the best lunch you can get in Traverse City. It is perfect, hand crafted and decadent. If you love food with passion this is your place. The service was great! They're wonderful and they get it. It's an old school Italian deli and it doesn't apologize for it. The vibe is great. you walk in and instantly get it. I cannot recommend this place enough. Get The Godfather if you're really hungry or the West Bay if you're looking for something lighter!

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches, will definitely be coming back often. We had to wait 35 minutes for two sandwiches, but it gave us time to browse the shop and the food was well worth the wait.

Julia B.

Yelp
I go here every time I'm in traverse city. So happy they survived Covid. Love their deli sandwiches.. especially the Rachel.. always very nice ppl working and willing to answer questions. Definitely a gem.. you'll be happy you stopped.

Caroline D.

Yelp
Amazing selection of (large) sandwiches. Great outdoor seating in front and out back. We were able to eat outdoors and kept our dog on the patio. Will definitely be back!

Taylor C.

Yelp
We ordered from Folgarelli's for my sister's Bridal Shower lunch. We got about 20 sandwiches, Fiori pasta salad, Caprese salad and nearly 4 dozen cookies. Everything was perfect. From the beginning stages of planning and back-and-forth emails with Scott, I was impressed with the ease and frequency of communication. We even added a last minute gluten free sandwich to the order which they were able to accommodate. Even upon pick up, my order was ready early and everything was present and beautiful! My order was taken out to my car for me and a second person came out to double check that all of my ordered items were present. I was more than impressed with this. I guess I should add that beyond all of this, everything tasted amazing! Thank you so much to the Folgarelli's team!

payton c.

Yelp
Best sandwiches around! I love this place not many people even know about this place. It is a little hole in the wall. They offer unique sandwiches and ingredients that most places do not offer. Would recommend for lunch any day

Scott R.

Yelp
bad Ass Sandwiches, by far the best in TC. Great spirit in the workers!

Jennifer P.

Yelp
You get quality sandwiches here. They got pretty busy when we came for lunch on a Saturday. They were continuously busting out sandwiches like there was no tomorrow. They have a couple outdoor tables for you to enjoy your food, but we just opted to eat our sandwiches in the car since we were on a time crunch. While we waited for our sandwiches, we explored each aisle of the market. Sandwiches were ready in about 10-15 minutes. We got the bray (#39) and the godfather (#3). Both were superb. The meats, bread, and sauce all worked together. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that we felt the sandwiches were a bit too salty due to the prosciutto. Nonetheless, we still really liked our food.

Yelp
UPDATE: My husband called to speak to the manager about this situation. He was repeatedly cut off and never allowed to speak. Appalling, but unsurprisingly so. AAPI/BIPOC please boycott until management can hold their employees accountable for xenophobic behavior. Great sandwich shop with a wide selection of (mostly) savory treats. Blatantly racist cashier. I do not understand bad customer service. Especially when racially driven. I called in an order for pick up. It was busy upon arrival and I wasn't sure where to go to get my sandwich. After waiting a bit by the deli, I walked to the front cash register to ask the question. Was totally polite and asked if I could even ask a question. Heavyset woman in the front BARKED that I could NOT ask her ANY questions - a caricature of her speaking to me might be akin to a fire breathing dragon. So I stood there quietly waiting. A few minutes later she barks back that I need to go to the cooler/fridge area. Very rude. I get in line to pay for my order. Can't help but notice the courteous demeanor this woman is showing to everyone ahead of me. When I arrive at the counter, she glares at me and wordlessly processes my order. As I'm leaving, I hear her cheerfully greet the customer behind me. While I'm not expecting anyone to roll out the red carpet, this type of xenophobic behavior is the reason I hate coming up north. Why did picking up a sandwich have to be such an issue? Please work on your customer service. I don't care how popular your business is. Treating strangers like they're unwelcome in your store is no way to operate. Do better.

Molly Z.

Yelp
Our friends who lives in the area highly recommended that we try the sandwiches so she picked them up for lunch one day during our visit. We tried the Italian Club and West Bay. The meat on the Italian was awesome. The bread had a crunch but wasn't impossible to chew through. My husband really enjoyed the West Bay. Salmon was fresh and he enjoyed the cheese spread. Quality sandwiches with quality ingredients. Hope to try again next time we're in town!

Natalie D.

Yelp
I'm from San Diego but fly out to traverse at least once a year to visit my sister and this is an absolute must sandwich stop when I land or before I depart. There are so many good places to eat in Traverse but this is by far my favorite sandwich. Which one you ask? You really can't go wrong. Every single one I've tried is delicious. Can't wait to visit again soon!

Neal J.

Yelp
Nice people. Great service. Awesome food. The sandwiches are some of the best! All the other prepared foods and deli items look awesome too! A true gem for TC!

Karen W.

Yelp
Wow! What great sandwiches they make here. While waiting for our sandwiches I enjoyed browsing the market which has hard to find items like a variety of pastas, cheeses, frozen seafood, pierogi and more! Huge wine selection. The owner went out of his way to sell me sauerkraut from his bulk supply to go with my pierogi. He also suggested that we eat our sandwiches at their back patio which was nice and shady. So glad we stumbled onto the market while shopping at the Northern Angler next door.

Jill C.

Yelp
I was in the store yesterday hoping to find traditional Italian food for Christmas. They did have a nice selection, small but nice, and I was able to find most of the items I was looking for. But when I checked out every single item that I purchased cost more than the sticker on the item. Anywhere from $0.18 to $2.29. Very unhappy since I purchased over $100 of groceries.

Erin E.

Yelp
I recently used them to cater an evening event I had for 25 people and they knocked it out of the park. Not only were they really helpful over the phone, but the way they arranged the platter was perfect with all high quality ingredients, delicious sandwiches, and the salad was exactly what I hoped for to serve a variety of tastes. Their whole staff is so friendly and they have a beautiful selection in their store. I wish I could have stayed longer to check out their wines! Great people and amazing food.

Paul S.

Yelp
Driven by this place for years .. so mad this was my first stop ... I'm not usually a sandwich guy .. this isn't a sandwich this is literally sliced meat heaven .. thick , fresh , amazing bread .. thinking about going back tomorrow .. we got a number 3 and then my kids got a basic ham and cheese ..

Claire K.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, kind wonderful people. My kids enjoyed being able to pick and scoop their own little candy treats, too!

Lionel B.

Yelp
Neighborhood deli open since 1945. good sandwich The Godfather and great chocolate chip cookies, fuhgetaboutit.

Su N.

Yelp
The best sandwiches in traverse city , high quality ingredients. Our favorite is the mobster and the Italian combo .
