The 30 Best Restaurants In Wicker Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"We like Folklore because of its flexibility. This Argentinian restaurant’s dimly lit space and tango-pop playlist works for date night, while its incredibly spacious dining area also has plenty of room for when your small birthday dinner mutates into a party of 18. But like its Lakeview sibling, Tango Sur, the reason to come to Folklore is for the meat. Whether it’s their tender filet mignon, rib-eye, or parrillada (a spread that includes chorizo, morcilla, sweetbread, short ribs, and sirloin), these grilled dishes should be your table's centerpiece. And if you want to say you ate your vegetables, the vesuvio potatoes and flaky empanadas with spinach and cheese are also great." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor

Folklore - Review - Wicker Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Folklore is a Wicker Park spot that's great for all sorts of situations. This Argentinian restaurant’s dimly lit space and tango-pop playlist works for a dinner date, while its large dining area also has plenty of room for large celebrations. But like its Lakeview sibling, Tango Sur, the best part about this place is the meat. Whether it’s their tender filet mignon, ribeye, or parrillada (a spread that includes chorizo, morcilla, sweetbread, short ribs, and sirloin), at least one of these grilled dishes should make an appearance on your table. And if you need a break from the meat, small plates like the vesuvio potatoes and flaky empanadas are also great." - John Ringor

This place is amazing!! One of our favorite spots for dinner now. I’m so picky with cocktails and their Mardi Gras was one of the best I’ve ever had! We also tried the cucumber and coconut mojitos and they were delish (coconut was def better). The empanadas were so good (beef was the best) and the filet was cooked PERFECTLY and the sauce and mashed potatoes were out of this world. OMG can’t wait to come back🤤

We came here on a day where a festival was happening on the street, luckily we had reservations. The music Nextdoor (maybe their bar) was very loud. We were seated quickly and served pretty quickly as well. The restaurant itself is very cute and spacious. They were out of certain drinks/menu items because of the festival issue. However, it wasn’t a huge issue for us. We tried to many different items - since it was our first time here. We had the spinach empanada- I chose this because it was vegetarian but I wasn’t a fan. My partner did like it (I am usually very picky). We also picked the provoleta and this was delicious, almost like eating this in Argentina. Very good, this was my favorite item. My partner had the chorizo trio and he said it was good, but nothing too superb. For entrees we had the ravioli with both sauces red and white and it was yummy, but again just too much food so I only had a few bites. It’s been a few weeks and I cannot remember what my partner had (the steak) also said he enjoyed it, but not sure he was blown away. I will say that we had the flan as desserts and it was DELICIOUS. Perhaps the best I’ve ever had I do recommend this spot, especially if you are in the mood for it. It was a good experience.

Food and drinks are so good! Servers are always so friendly and on top of it! I usually always get the Filet mignon, whatever sauce they use is seriously so good! But I’ve tried a few other dishes and they all have flavor. Highly recommend

Google
Folklore served up some of the best steak we’ve had in Chicago. And we’ve been to many of the best steakhouses in the city. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. We were legit surprised because this place has good reviews but is never talked about or considered a top steak spot in the city. The “El Che” was the star and came out sizzling on a personal grill. Portion was enormous. Could be split by two people. Empanadas are pretty good too. Wine was fine. The only issue was the bar side of the place was banging music. Super aggressively. And the restaurant side gives off a romantic candle lit vibe. Had to scream to have a conversation. Fwiw - we went during Do Division Fest so that could have impacted the music and craziness of the bar side. Either way will be back. Steak was super good!

Being a server myself and my boyfriend we do know about this. Unconsciously since we walked in we started judging and we went like this: Ambient: 5 stars, super romantic; perfect for a date. Cocktails: 5 stars, perfect flavors, beautiful presentation, quality ingredients. Food: 5 stars, perfect seasoning, we are used to Latin food and the seasoning was on point, it brought us back to our countries; from the appetizer, entree and dessert. Everything was perfect. Service: 5 stars, Oscar took the best care about us. Recommended us cocktails according to what we liked as well with food. It was my birthday, and he surprised us with a delicious dessert. We will go back 100%. Best date we’ve ever had and we will repeat it.

I had the Entrana and beef empanada while my wife had the Che and we shared carmelized onions and spinach mashed potatoes. The empanada was okay by itself but the chimichurri sauce really enhanced the flavor. Both our meats were tender and cooked to our preferences but surprisingly the vegetables were the star of the show. The mushrooms were amazing, the asparagus and peppers had a nice grilled flavor and char, and the tomatoes and onions were good for a refreshing bite. The caramelized onions seemed sweet at first but it provided a contrasting flavor to the other ingredients; we couldn’t stop eating them. We couldn’t really taste the spinach in the mashed potatoes but it was still really delicious. We will definitely be back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable experience at Folklore! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, rustic, and inviting—enhanced by the soft glow of candlelight. We ordered the El Che, a grilled flank steak served sizzling hot on a tabletop grill with red chimichurri, and it did not disappoint. The steak was tender, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. The accompanying roasted red peppers, asparagus, and shiitake mushrooms added the perfect earthy balance. Also worth mentioning: the mashed peas were silky and vibrant, and the yuca was tender and well-seasoned. Every dish felt thoughtful and well-executed. To top it off, the cocktail (with a crisp apple garnish!) was both refreshing and artfully crafted—clearly made with pride. If you're looking for an authentic Argentinian experience in Chicago with bold flavors and a cozy, romantic vibe, Folklore is a must. Can’t wait to return! 🕯️🥩🍷 #FolkloreChicago #ElCheSteak #ArgentinianCuisine #ChicagoEats #FoodieFinds #SteakLovers #LatinFlavors #TabletopGrill #ChimichurriDreams #CandlelitDining #ChicagoInfluencer #WickerParkEats #EatLocalChicago #SupportLocalRestaurants #Foodie #BestPlacetoEat

Yelp
We used to love Folklore a few years ago and preCOVID. However our recent experiences have been more mixed especially when it came to the steak offerings. Service is always excellent and the interior has a dark, cozy energy despite being very large. The patio is pleasant on nice days. On multiple occasions, we've received meat that was very well done and very tough despite requesting otherwise. The sweetbreads were also tough to the point of being inedible, with a lot of sinew across the cuts. Overall a great place for wine, tapas, and lounging but the core meat offerings have declined substantially in quality.

Yelp
Great food and great experience. The staff is quite accommodating and hospitable. The ambience is amazing. Perfect for a date night out! The food quality was superb!

Yelp
Hands down: the Best Argentinian grilled meat restaurant in the city, and I've tried a few. Came in right when they opened up. We were sat immediately by a very friendly host. Loved the decor of the place, not pretentious and very cozy. Loved the fire place in the main dining area. Loved the long stick candle on the table. Our waiter was kind and gave us ample time to read the menu. We ordered a beef empanada which was huge and full of spicy delicious beef mince. The crust was flaky and buttery: really good. We then split the Parrillada Mixta (for two) and all of the meats were cooked perfectly: the Short Rib stood out for its flavor. Honestly a great overall experience here: service was friendly & prompt, the food was plentiful & delicious, and the quality of the meat was unmatched. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
We had reservations for 5 PM and arrived about 4:30 PM. The restaurant was empty and they were able to accommodate us earlier than our reservation. The waiter was nice and friendly. As soon as we walked in, I noticed the beautiful and modern decor. We sat near the window. They start you off with some nice warm bread and butter. We ordered the El Che (steak) and seafood pasta (can't remember the name and it's not on the current website menu). The flavors were amazing and everything was cooked to perfection. The steak was nice and juicy. The veggies complimented well together. The pasta was a huge portion and enough for another meal. There were plenty of seafood options in this dish- scallops, salmon, calamari and shrimp. Throughout our meal, the restaurant quickly filled with customers. The waiter was attentive throughout our time here. Highly recommend this restaurant and would return!

Yelp
A neighbor gem! We have tried Tango Sur, El Cheand this place in Chicago, and Folklore clearly stands out as the best. It is the most specious one providing my own personal space and very relaxed vibe. The server was very attentive. We got parrillada for two and berenjena en escabeche (eggplant with various herbs). Berenjena was a big surprise for us, and it was so good on its own but was better with different meat types. Meat platter was awesome; and my wife loved the blood sausage while my favorite was sweetbread. Portion was so big for both dishes, and it can definitely feed more than 2 (likely 4 for the regular eaters like my wife and me). Thoroughly enjoyed Folklore. Will definitely come again!

Yelp
Folklore has been one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago for over a decade. They have the best filer I've ever had. It's not even usually my favorite cut, but it's drowning in flavor, and I could die in a vat of those spinach mashed potatoes. It's so great for a date, a family meal, dinner with a friend, or a group! Lively, loud, and celebratory!

Yelp
Loved this place! Candlelit, cozy vibes with great service. Food and drinks were also incredible! Definitely get the corn empanadas and Tallarines- fettuccine, but with a tomato cream sauce instead, per recommendation of our bartender (definitely do it). We also tried the El Filet, which was cooked perfectly and paired well with the red onion wine sauce and spinach mashed potatoes. We tried the Entrana skirt steak as well, which was just as good. Get the espresso martini with cheese. You really can't go wrong with the food or drinks here.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for years and it's always just as good as the last times I have gone. Absolutely love the food and customer service. Beautiful ambiance and you will always find parking near by.

Yelp
We were on in the mood for some grilled meats for date night but didn't want to leave a restaurant smelling like smoked meats. A friend had mentioned that they had eaten at Folklore in Wicker Park a while back and we weren't sure if it was going to be too busy but knew there were also other restaurants in the area we could go to. Folklore takes reservations over the phone but we were seated immediately for a party of 2 on a Thursday evening. We started with a beer and soda along with an order of the chicken and beef empanadas that were served with a chimichurri sauce. For our entree, we ordered the Parillada ($52) which came with short ribs, sirloin, sausages, sweetbread and blood sausages and their house made potatoes. There was so much food that we ended up with plenty of leftovers. Also you cannot pass on the fresh and hot baked french bread that they brought to the table. Pretty sure I ate three baguettes with the bread. Our server was very attentive and even came and switched out the candle on our table so I could get better lighting for my photos. The real candles added to the romantic ambiance. We'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Always fantastic. Excellent service, atmosphere, fantastic espresso martini and food is always delicious.

Yelp
Incredible dinner! After having this on my list to check out for months, I finally got a chance to visit - very impressed! We started with three different empanadas, along with the bread and butter. I would highly recommend the ham ones - but the steak one was excellent as well. Our waiter was attentive, giving solid recommendations (the flank steak with mushrooms and asparagus was near the top of his list). I am so glad that is what I decided on - the steak was done perfectly, medium rare, on a sizzling skillet. The veggies complimented the steak well! The cheesecake was amazing - would recommend. Already looking forward to going back - the patio was a relaxing setting, but I am interested in trying the indoor setting as well.

Yelp
I came here a few months ago and forgot to leave my review! Overall, it was an okay experience. I've had better meals in other locations and service was very slow. We waited a while for someone to take our order until I had to flag someone down.

Yelp
Walked into Folklore Argentine Grill because we wanted to try something new. The atmosphere is nice with unique lighting and flamenco music. There are two dining rooms. The first is smaller and has a more casual vibe. The second, main room is livelier but has a more romantic feel. Sat at the bar for a few minutes while they found us a table. Tried the pauloma (that's how they spell it) and it was excellent. Strong and tasty. Tried the caipirinha as well and that was just as good. We were seated in the main room and our waiter was very friendly and patient as we took some time to order. He brought out complimentary French bread which was delicious and is definitely made in house. We started with the tortilla de espinaca which was fresh and lighter, and serves 3-4. Next we had the chicken and spinach & cheese empanadas. Both were very good and I'm sure the crust is made in-house as well. Neither of them were greasy. Last we had the berenjena which was flavorful but pretty rich. This Argentine restaurant stands out as authentic with freshly made dishes in a nice area of Wicker Park.

Yelp
My brother wanted to try this place, so a few of us went a couple of weeks ago to check it out. We made a reservation and arrived on time. The hostess seated us immediately, and the bus boy brought us water. I ordered the pechuga, which is grilled chicken topped with some sort of seasoning. I ordered the vesuvio potatoes as a side instead of the mixed vegetables. The chicken was extremely salty, which was a disappointment. So much so that I didn't each much of it and declined to take the leftovers. I wiped off the seasoning on top at one point in an attempt to make it edible, but that didn't help. My sister had the filet with mashed potatoes. She'd asked for her steak to be prepared done, but they cooked it medium rare. She still ate it, though, and said it was pretty good. My friend ordered the rib eye, which she also enjoyed. It came garnished with some sort of tomatoes. Lastly, my brother had the Parrillada, which is a combo platter consisting of short rib, sirloin flap, sausage, sweetbreads, and blood sausage. He liked everything except for the blood sausage. Everyone liked their food except for me, but the general consenus amongst the group was that we wouldn't necessarily return. The food was decent but unmemorable. We all had cocktails as well, which were enjoyable. The space has a low-key, chill, and somewhat romantic vibe. We sat not far from the entrance adjacent to the bar, so it was quiet. The other side of the restaurant seemed crowded and a little more lively. Our server was pleasant and attentive, and it was well.

Yelp
I've lived in the neighborhood for 30+ years, and I can't believe it took me that long to visit Folklore. I'm so mad at myself! First of all, it should be a crime for how delicious that bread basket was. Soft, perfect chew and crunch, warm-- I had to stop myself. Empanadas are all delicious. The provoleta was okay. But man oh man, this steak. I ordered the El Filet. Beautifully and perfectly cooked filet mignon with a red wine sauce... and the potatoes. Someone give me my fat pants right now. Mashed potatoes with spinach for the most buttery win. Food coma as our dessert

Yelp
The ambiance is so relaxing and beautiful. The servers are absolutely a delight with on point recommendations to delicious dishes. The portions are big get ready for a filling mouth watering dish *drool*

Yelp
Perfect date night spot. The ambience, food and service were all on point 1000%. The meat was fresh and tender. Everything was flavorful. And you get a serenade from a cool & kind guitar player while dining.

Yelp
So we are in town to visit our son, explore and watch him run in the Chicago Marathon and he wanted to take us to this restaurant to try Argentinian steak. He made reservations and we were promptly seated and this place is very romantic with candlelit tables. Perfect for date night. My wife and I ordered the parillada for two and our son ordered the milanese with over medium eggs which was a new one for us. Our plate came with some roasted potatoes that were delicious and we also ordered the spinach tortilla, amazingly good. Our server, Felix, was on point and explained the food to us, detailed the restaurant to us and was giving our son pointers on where to take us to learn about Chi Town. Come to find out he's from the Sister city of Juarez, small world. Oh I almost forgot the best part, dessert. We had the Argentinian Flan. It was the best flan we have ever had, it was amazing and we paired that up with with some expresso. Overall an amazing experience that we highly recommend.

Ryann M.

Yelp
I Love Folklore. The ambiance is very dark and romantic with candles everywhere. The night that I went they also had a live guitar player walking around and also took song requests. The food here is outstanding and you get a great amount for the price. The two person meat platter easily could be for 3 people. No wonder it is so hard to get a reservation here sometimes.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were looking forward to this place. The place looked nice inside and out. The service was not that good. We had to ask the other server for more drinks and our check at the end. It was not busy at all on a Wednesday night. I am giving this place a 1 star due to the steak being well done when we asked for medium rare. The steak had no flavor and very under seasoned. Towards the end of the meal our waiter finally asked how everything was. We told him it was overcooked and he asked if we wanted to speak to the manager. You can have a much better time at other spots on Division or a better steak at home if you just add salt and pepper to your steak. There was no flavor to this $45 steak.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and really good steak . prices are amazing and it's such a great environment

Yelp
Top notch restaurant great ambiance. Service is outstanding! Real authentic Argentine dishes! Would recommend to everyone and anyone that wants to have an authentic Argentine experience! Can't say enough about this place!!

Jen S.

Yelp
This place is great! Highlights were the ham and cheese empanada and the short rib! We ordered the Paradilla meat platter for 2, and it was plenty of food, maybe enough for 3. Short rib was definitely my favorite, but the chorizo and flank steak were good, too. It came on a hot iron tray so it kept the food warm throughout the meal. My boss wanted a side salad, which wasn't on the menu, and the staff was quick to come up with a solution. Great beer selection: Rogue brewery, Delirium Tremens, Chimay...I never see these beers on draft! Robust wine options and everything a very fair price. I want to come back and try the cocktails as they looked divine and were all about 13$ or under. Great staff, comfortable ambiance and clean. This place is a hidden gem.

Todd M.

Yelp
This place was great! The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was awesome. Our waiter was very attentive and knew how to make you have a great experience dining in their establishment. Will definitely go here again. The price was very reasonable for service and quality of the food
google avatar

Yelp
Parking is street parking but adequate. The atmosphere is dim, cozy and romantic. The restaurant was busy as it was a Saturday night. It took some time after being seated for someone to come to our table but once a waiter realized he was apologetic and was helpful. We tried the empanadas for an appetizer which were good. I had the scallops and papas vesuvio which i enjoyed both. My partner had the steak that came on the grill and he enjoyed it as well. I had a mule i think was black cherry which was really good. I will definitely revisit this place for the atmosphere and yummy food
google avatar

Courtney K.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Argentine food. The service was phenomenal and the food was delicious. Hands down the best steak sandwich I've ever had. Went here for the World Cup and it was a hit! Very good empanadas as well!

Yelp
It was a Monday night... our favorite day to try new dinning spots near our neighborhood. It seems that Monday (typically a slow night if open at all) gives one the greatest chance of experiencing all a new place has to offer and Folklore was no exception. We loved the music, the menu choices and for you red wine drinkers... there is a choice for the most discerning amongst you. Starters included the house salad with a vinaigrette served with fresh bread. this was a perfect warmup for the main course that followed. We usually share our en·trée's - I had "Berenjena," (Oven baked eggplant layered w/spinach, provolone, and ricotta topped with tomato cream sauce.) and my friend had "Vegie Parrillada" which is a tasty selection of grilled zucchini, yellow squash, asparagus, red peppers and shiitake mushrooms. Note: If you like bread and Olive Oil... just ask, they will certainly and quickly accommodate you. Our dinner beverage of choice is a good red wine. We ordered a bottle of Alma Negra, Red Blend, Mendoza. It turned out to be a delicious creation. A big fruity beginning followed by a nice even finish that lingered thereby balancing the Argentinian food flavors and ambiance of our dinning experience. The staff was so polite and friendly - they clearly worked as a team providing excellent and attentive service. We love that! Folklore is now a new choice on our GoTo list for authentic neighborhood dining.

Yelp
I went to the restaurant & ordered the Parradilla for 2 and it was sensational. The short ribs were to die for. Flank steak was plentiful & tender. I will be returning. The service was impeccable & the staff was very attentive. The ambiance was remarkable.

Yelp
PLEASE GET THE PARRILLADA (for 2) I MEAN THESE PHOTOS DON'T EVEN DO IT JUSTICE. A big sizzling grill plate comes out and it's LOADED with two cuts of strip steak, two tender and juicy short rib cuts, two sausages, 4 sweetbreads (juicy fatty pork chunks), and a blood sausage, with a side of soft potatoes. It is literally meat paradise, squeezing the lemon over everything and eating it with the chimichurri?? God is real and there are peeks of heaven here on earth!!! It says for two and you already KNOW that my friend and I bodied everything but we left absolutely stuffed, so I think that it could definitely work for 3 people, and even for 4 people with an additional appetizer. It was a platter with everything you could even want to try and it was so worth it and delicious. The service was speedy and so sweet and the restaurant has a dark cozy interior and a bright lovely sidewalk patio where we chose to consume our meats.
google avatar

Jasin S.

Yelp
This place has hands down one of the best steaks I've ever had. The service is phenomenal and the place is awesome!!
google avatar

Kelsey R.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. It was somewhere we had been meaning to try and we were really excited about it. It has a cool ambiance- dark and moody with lots of candles (good for a date night). The service was really good! The food however was just okay. The highlight was the empanadas. They came out hot and crispy with a warm gooey inside. My husband thought the chorizo trio was pretty good, but i wasn't a huge fan. For entrees we got the Berenjena (basically an eggplant lasagna) and the Pechuga (chicken and veggies). Overall pretty bland.
google avatar

Abby F.

Yelp
Great service and food, but WAYYYY to much on the platter for two. It could easily feed more people. Cool place. Would go back.
google avatar

Dorothy S.

Yelp
Came here with reservations for an early Friday night dinner. There was tons of parking right out front on division, which was surprising. Service here is excellent, drinks were good, that cheesy app was my favorite. I got the Berenjena eggplant dish, which was super flavorful and tasty, SO got el Filet, which was huge and he liked it. I know this is the sister restaurant of Tango Sur, and I recall it being really dark there, well it was really dark here as well lol like I'm not sure how the servers see anything once the sun goes down. Maybe I'm just old now and the darkness doesn't bother others lol either way, had a lovely meal here!
google avatar

Jim U.

Yelp
I'm all fairness, we signed here during some block party so it may not be a true representation of the norm. To start, it was way too loud. The bar side noise and music spilled into the restaurant side. I could not here the person next to me unless they spoke up. I could not hear the person 2 seats down at all. The service was ok. It was too hard to hear if they were polite or not but seemed prompt and were working hard. For the price point, I'd expect some knowledge of etiquette and that may have been lacking. 5 people ordered the same beer and 4 of them got different glasses(cups) to pour into. The 5th didn't get a glass and ended up drinking from the can. The food was on the expensive side. Plates ranged from mid 20s to low 40s. The meats were also over salted. Way over salted. They tasted very good, but could have used half the salt. Maybe they weren't wiped off or something. I don't know. I would be willing to try again but had I not been in a party of 10, due to the noise, I would have walked out and tried somewhere else.

Yelp
Omg. First of all for all my fellow dog moms. This place is dog friendly! Love it. Secondly. I loved the interior, it felt classy and romantic, there were candles, beautiful decorations etc. I of course sat on the patio because of my dog. But still a great place to sit and people watch. We loved the music and the atmosphere outside. I must say the pechuga de pollo is fireeeee. Definitely a great place if you're looking for something new, authentic and tasty! Definitely go!
google avatar

Michala E.

Yelp
I have frequented this place over the last year and LOVE the ambiance. I always get the filet that's tender, juicy and delicious. And their spinach mashed potatoes are so good too! The bartender helped recommend a wine based on what I usually like and was very happy with the selection! Patio is also beautiful in the summertime :)
google avatar

Yelp
My experience at Folklore was probably one of my favorite days of 2022. I went in with my husband and a couple friends for the World Cup Final. The doors opened at 8am and from then until we left which was about 1pm the service was great. Our bartender, Andres was super attentive and made sure everyone had their drinks. We also ordered Empanadas and at the end had a parrillada. Food is great and really flavorful. The place is also very welcoming and the energy was really great that day. Amazing place!
google avatar

Christopher V.

Yelp
Dined in with a group of 8 or so. I arrived a little early for our reservation with a friend so we grabbed a drink at the bar. The mixed drinks were sneaky strong and we'll balanced. After the full group arrived we were promptly seated. I'd previously checked out the menu, but asked our server to surprise us with a few of his favorite appetizers. He brought out a panini, empanadas, antipasto and a few others I didn't photograph. Each had mixed reviews around the table. I thought each was solid, but not special. For entrees were ordered a bit of everything. ..steak, lamb, chicken. Again everything was ok, but to be honest I was disappointed with the flavor and toughness of the steaks and lamb. Portions were generous. A few items were missing and plates didn't arrive at the same time. After chatting with our waiter he comped a couple desserts for the table. Nice gesture. I might revisit, but only for drinks.
google avatar

Cassidy G.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience! A large group of us came and shared about 10 dishes, and everything we tasted was incredible. Even the simplest dishes like their capres salad and provoleta had subtle additions to their flavor, and their more complex dishes like the berenjena were beautifully balanced. The servers were friendly and professional, and the music/atmosphere lively but tasteful. Would rate 10/10 and definitely return; highly recommend!

Ahmad O.

Yelp
We very quickly realized that Folklore's menu is nearly identical to Tango Sur's lol we didn't know they were owned by the same company, BUT that guaranteed that we had a good meal coming! The La Negra cocktail was calling my name and it was more than worth it; so much flavor! The beef and chicken empanadas were solid and a great way to start the meal. I tried the Berenjena for my entree and I did not place my fork down until it was gone. The combination of the ricotta and that tomato cream sauce really elevated the eggplant. Who needs meat when you've got a dish like this?! My wife will need to stop me from ordering the Berenjena when we return so I can try something else on the menu!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the ham and cheese empanadas and shared the El Che steak which was more than enough for two! The chimichurri was fantastic, as were the spinach/garlic potatoes. It's a great ambiance inside, very cozy.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 6 years. Always recommended Folklore or Tango to my friends. Today was the exception. Very bad experience. Almost 20 minutes for a waiter to approach us. Barely checked on us at all and would often have to initiate contact for any help. 3 tables that came in after we did got there food before us. The food we ordered came out wrong and our waiter made no attempt to fix it. Just an overall bad experience....outside of the steak. Going to take a lot to recommend this place again. Can think of a lot of other places I'd feel better about spending ~$200 on a meal at per their are plenty of options to choose from in Chicago. Service here seems to be diminishing and that was a huge part of our repeated patronage of Folklore as well as our us recommending Folklore to family and friends.

Yelp
This has to be one of the TOP 5 RESTAURANTS THAT I HAVE EATEN AT IN CHICAGO! A MUST! My Mami was visiting and we took the bus along Division Street to get there. The restaurant is literally a few steps away from the bus stop! Seating Options- & The Ambiance- There is a rather large covered patio that has table seatings with open windows and an oasis of exotic flowers. Each individual table is adorned with candles that are lit upon each customer's table slightly before the main meal arrives. There is an L Shaped Bar immediately inside the main entrance door. The Bar area also offers a few tables for seating options. Around the corner from the Bar is the main dining room with tables of all sizes. The decor in the dining room and bar make you feel like you are literally in Argentina. All kinds of Gaucho (Cowboy) belts, chaps, spurs and rounding up cattle tools...."Giddiup!" Furthermore, there were taper candles on each table that were lit right before dinner arrived. It was truly classy! The music was a lovely Spanish Style Acoustic Guitar...think Paco Lucia..... The FOOD- Amazing choices from Argentinean Influenced Pastas, to grilled Steaks and Vegetables, to Empanadas, Ensalada Russia and many other offerings. It was so hard to choose. OUR CHOICES: Appetizers- Grilled Eggplant marinated in vinegar, olive oil and herbs-SOOO TENDER and UNIQUE...absolutely a MUST! Empanadas-We tried Corn but there is beef, chicken, and ham and cheese....so nice and crisp on the outside and tender and juicy in the middle-perfectly holds together when cut in half to share! Fantastic appetizer. Served with authentic house-made Chimichurri (Green). Dinner- We split the "El Che" Which is Grilled Steak with Red Chimichurri flanked with roasted vegetables=asparagus, red bell pepper, and mushrooms...all served on a still hot and somewhat smokey cooking grilling plate placed in the middle of our table. This was so large that we each could only eat half between the two of us and brought the rest home. We also ordered a side of the Portabella Mushrooms in Marsala Sauce-they were so tender and delicious and were a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Wine- Wine-Argentine Malbec (Red), Maipo Valley Carmenere (Red), Torrontes (White)...by the glass or the bottle...fantastic, comprehensive and a refined list of several menu pages with authentic selections! THE WOW FACTOR! Once we left and took what we could no longer eat because we were full....we just could NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT how great the food was and what a wonderful time we had. Since we have both been to Argentina several times-we actually "felt" like we were in Argentina again. In fact, that evening and during the rest of the visit we could NOT STOP TALKING about how much we loved the food, wait staff and ambiance. We cannot wait to go back and take my Dad when he visits! Also I cannot wait to go to the bar for a glass of wine and some appetizers in the near future! Truly a gem in this DIVERSE CITY OF CHICAGO! Fun Fact- FYI-They Sell disposable masks on the menu for $3.00! Also-THE WAIT STAFF WAS SUPER ATTENTIVE, KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE MENU, and EXCITED ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS AND THE FOOD! Need I say more?

Yelp
My son brought me here while visiting Chicago. He had been here previously for drinks and snacks but never a full meal. We came on a Thursday about 7:00 and it wasn't very busy, but by the time we left it was quite full. There was a live guitar player that started at 8:00 and he was awesome. There were several food choices that caught my eye but I ended up getting a small table top grill of delicious vegetables, which included mushrooms, asparagus, red peppers and more, and my son got Bife Vesuvio which was steak fillet with spinach and cheese and he said it was amazing! My meal had the option of adding chicken or shrimp for an additional charge. Both meals came with a dinner salad and delicious warm rolls and the steak came with argentine style potatoes. We both had leftovers because the portions were huge. Besides being delicious this was an excellent experience and the service was great!

Yelp
If you dine here, a steak is a must have. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. Atmosphere was absolutely great. Could be a perfect place for a date as well. While hostess not very friendly, all other waitstaff was a pleasure the entire time. Should allow online reservations.

Yelp
Loved everything here! There was a nice candle-light feel and guitarist playing live music. All of the food was great and the staff is super friendly as well. Bar and food menu offer a lot of different tastes.

Yelp
Our table of 3 shared all empanada options. I recommend the corn but the spinach was a close second. We also shared a grilled veggie dish with added shrimp. It was all great! Nicely displayed and seasoned. We topped it all with some Cava for bubbles The place was a great location and we couldn't walk by without checking out the menu, I'm glad we did!
