The 17 Best Restaurants Near Lake Chelan - Seattle - The Infatuation

"If you’re starving on your drive into Chelan, Fonda Oaxaqueña is an excellent pit stop in East Wenatchee. And if you’re headed back to Seattle, the colorful interiors can soften the post-vacation blues. This place has excellent mole, which they incorporate into nearly everything from enchiladas to baby pork ribs. Just make sure you don’t fill up on the complimentary chips, housemade salsa, and refried bean dip. You won’t want any distractions when a plate of perfectly charred carne asada tacos or steaming tamales is set in front of you." - carlo mantuano, emily burks

Forget about your mom’s cooking, NO you don’t have food at home!! Went with my gf and we both ordered the mole enchiladas. They were excellent! 10/10, would definitely recommend

Came here with my husband to try after here after hearing they had food. I tried the mole and he tried the taquitos. His taquitos were delicious. The rice and beans were delicious. The rice was superb. They served chips with salsa and refried beans prior to our meal. We ordered horchata and Pepsi. Service was mediocre. The mole I didn't like and asked to exchange, this was accepted at a 50% charge. So I decided to just keep it and give it to my sister. Since the meal itself was 20.00. The prices range from 18.00-22.00 a plate.

All of the dishes I have had at this restaurant are fantastic! Unique flavor profiles are developed from family recipes. We usually go to the Chelan restaurant and love it. I was happy to try this location in East Wenatchee.

Google
It was good. But I wouldn't recommend you a dish with a tilapia (please see the pictures). Piece of a lemon was with a tag. The restroom wasn't clean. Otherwise it was interesting experience, bright decorations, friendly staff. Will go there again.

Our food was great! Service very atent, drinks on piont, atmosphere fantastic, music not too loud. We had a blast dinner.

Google
Wonderful atmosphere, staff was sweet and prompt, margs were strong, chips salsa and beans came right out. 10/10 will be coming back <3

Google
This place has amazing food, from the complimebtary chips, bean dip, and salsa, to the items on the menu. The horchata tasted home made. The tamales were delicous. And the Mole Oaxaqueño is amazing! I'm definitely going back to try more items on the menu. Great service also, the waiters were welcoming and attentive.

Google
This is now my favorite Mexican restaurant! Wow! ... Very authentic and different varieties that are not found at most. The salsa is very spicy (which we enjoy) and their green Verde salsa test very fresh... As if it came right from a blender full of fresh vegetables. It has a nice atmosphere and the people are great. LOVE their colorful chairs! The only negative was the glass full of ice with the couple ounces of cola that looked like ice tea it was so thin. They do give seconds... But I doubt if I had even a 12 ounce can total. Plenty of soda is needed to burn along with the Mexican food. I doubt if they skimp on the beer or they would have a revolt. Okay... So I'm back, editing my review because I forgot the platanos fritos. That was (unfortunately) pretty disappointing. My wife and I usually enjoy it. Not sure why, but though it was sprinkled with seasoning... The plantain was VERY bland, having no flavor. Don't let my soda and desert experience shy you away. I'm going back soon when we get back to Wenatchee!

Yelp
I had the best mole enchiladas. Mole was very yummy. I was really happy to drive, in that way when I was visiting Wenatchee.

Yelp
Very friendly attentive service. I ordered fajita asada. The meat was thin and over done for my liking. When I see black char on the edge of meat, its not my favorite. The chips was good. The flavoring of the meat was delicious.

Eduardo G.

Yelp
the service was amazing but the food on the other hand was not cooked well enough i got FOOD POISONING from the cheese burger the cheese burger meat was hard and uncooked.

Yelp
Wow the food here is so good! Stopped by here on a whim looking for good Mexican food. Solid complimentary chips and salsa which also Comes with refried beans! I don't know what is in those frijoles but I could not get enough! Free refills? Yes please! Stuff tried: Caldo de Rez: I love it when the have the freshly chopped onions, jalapenos and spices on the size for max flavor when you dump it all into your soup! Generous chunks of fork tender beef and veg. So good! Chileado: pork riblet in spicy mole sauce with frijoles and rice. Nice savory chocolate mole. Slightly bitter in a good way. makes for a yummy taco when you eat with provided tortillas. Casual setting and service was really nice and friendly. I will be stopping by the next time I'm in East Wenatchee!

Yelp
I stopped for 'take-out' at 3:30 on a Thursday. A friend had recommended Oaxaqueña's street tacos which come with fried cactus. I ordered two plates: 1) of 3-asada (beef) tacos, and, 2) of 3-al pastor (pork) tacos, each plate for $15.25 A plate of 3 tacos does not come with rice or beans, so I ordered sides of both at $3.25 each. Somehow, the total came to $51.54 the total should have been $37+tax. The tacos were delicious, and each came wrapped in double corn tortillas. The garnishes (nopales-cactus, radishes, pineapple and broiled jalapeño) really took the flavor over the top! The rice and beans were very plain, pretty much the minimum in flavor and ingredients. So our experience was the tacos. They were a signature entrée, and they were generous in size. But the price for this meal still gnaws at me. It wasn't worth $51.54 in my opinion. Nonetheless, to be fair, this was the high end in Mexican fare (..well, not the rice and beans).

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican food, can't wait to return. The vibrant flavors danced on my palate, each bite a delightful explosion of spices and freshness. The warm tortillas, handmade and soft, paired perfectly with the rich, savory fillings. I can still taste the tangy salsa that added just the right amount of kick to every dish. It's not just a meal; it's an experience that lingers long after the last bite.

Sarah L.

Yelp
My fave Mexican place in town! The Oaxacan specials like the tamales, moles and tacos al pastor are a must-try. Love how colorful and vibrant the decor is in the restaurant and takeout times are always reasonable.
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty food, big portions, great service. Can't ask for more. The mole on the chicken enchiladas were a bit sweeter than I'm used to but super tasty. Love beans with the chips and salsa.

Yelp
To find authentic Mexican food in this area was hard. When I came across this restaurant I knew we had to check it out. From the moment you walk in, you're immediately submerged in the Mexican culture atmosphere. The place is very clean, very in tune with the culture and the food was awesome. I ordered the Clayuda and it was soo big!! My sister had the Diablo sauce shrimp and said was actually spicy, which is rare in restaurants. Highly recommend the place. The staff was also so friendly. 10/10.

Yelp
Excellent hole in the wall type of restaurant. I couldn't even find it due to sharing the building with two other businesses . Very cozy and welcoming with music playing in the background that you can vibe to as you get greeted right out the gate to your table. Service was good as well as the salsa and chips!!!! First time I'll say this the salsa and chips with beans charros is a AA++ !!! I got the Mole for dinner which definitely reminded me of Mexico but a little too sweet for my taste ( I prefer Spice anyways lol ) but overall the plate combination was good to liking . I definitely recommend this place !!

Yelp
Hands down the best Mexican food in Wenatchee. I made a mistake and tried another spot and wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Great service, great vibes, and most important REAL Mexican food

Griselda R.

Yelp
We love eating here when we're in the area. Great food and service every time we have been there. Also, we love the chips and salsa with the addition of beans. I particularly enjoy the mole enchiladas.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Just look at this plate, their salsa is amazing, the margaritas are off the hook, highly suggest stopping in!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Service was okay, but the food was very plain and didn't taste right. The shrimp in the Camarones apretalados was very over cooked, and we are not a fan of peas and carrots in Mexican rice. The salsa is also very watered down. The tortillas are not handmade, they are store bought. My husband got the Tlayuda and didn't even eat it. The meat on it was dry, hard as a rock and the big tostada was burnt black.

Yelp
Mind blown. Amazing food, great service.i could just eat the refried beans and be happy. We will stop by whenever in this area.

Phyllis P.

Yelp
Lunch specials are great and anything else you order. The hot sauce is yummy and the secret stash is hot, you have to ask for it snd it cost $2.50 extra. Warm chips are great. Always look forward to eating at Fonda. Great service too.

Yelp
This is a gem of a Mexican restaurant. Food is based on recipes from the southern part of Mexico. Service is super friendly. The restaurant is just darling - bright decor and one of the cleanest I've ever eaten in. We had an awesome meal here and will definitely go again!

Bill C.

Yelp
I've been here twice for lunch, both times I was seated and served quickly. LOVED the salsa they serve with chips, I ordered the special two different days both were excellent. It's a regular go to for me from now on.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I had the best salsa with chips and bean dip to boot to start off our dining experience. The only thing I can say bad is they do not have N.A. beer. The service was incredible and I had tamale Oaxaqueña. The masa was different than I have had before, it was 'fluffy'. Much flavor in everything. Perfect amount of spice. Did I mention great service."?

Yelp
There is not enough Mole in this world. We were thrilled to see a south Mexican restaurant in town. We ordered takeout. Rice and beans sides were good. Chips were hose made and likely far better in the restaurant. MOLE OAXAQUEÑO was BOLD. If you love sweet carbon, this is your dish. I could never conceive of these flavors, I'm glad someone did but it was too bold for me and I would not order again. MOLE DE CLAVO was BOLD. IMO the better of the two mole on the menu. Good to try but would not order again as it was on the edge of enjoyable. Bother mole were far better than the off the shelf sweet sauce. Lots of work with peppers went into each. Ceviche was sweeter than we like. Possibly a bit of sugar in there but all the fish was fresh and we'll marinated. Well prepared, just not our preferred variation. Overall the quality was there, the atmosphere was good and the service fast and prompt. Although none of these dishes landed well with us, I would be willing to keep searching the menu.

Yelp
Willy, you took great care of us!! Over the top service! Excellent, authentic food! I especially enjoyed the mole sauce. Dad had the Tacos Al Pastor and raved about them. But Willy was the absolute best part of our dining experience! This will be our go to place in Wenatchee!
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
Great food and staff! Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. We love this place!

Carmella D.

Yelp
This wonderful meal started out with some great salsa and chips (on the house) and a Modelo in an ice cold glass. For dinner, my husband and I split the Enchiladas Oaxaqueñas and the pork tamales. The mole sauce on the enchiladas is SO good. So much deep flavor and the perfect amount of spicy. The tamales were also delicious - the masa was really tender and pork well-spiced and seasoned. It's obvious that these people really put love into their food and we're so warm and attentive as well. It was a wonderful place to stop on our way to the mountains but if this restaurant was in my town I would go here all the time.
google avatar

Yelp
Small venue, big flavor. Starting with the chips, salsa and beans lots of flavor and just the right amount of heat. My main meal was Carne Asada. The steak did a happy dance on my taste buds, while being accompanied by the beans, rice, and salad. My partner had the spinach enchiladas, with mushrooms and green tomatillo sauce. It was also scrumptious. The friendly wait staff seated us quickly and brought our meals in short order. Everything was delish. We'll be back
google avatar

Nacho J.

Yelp
Service was awesome - highly attentive and polite! Food was delicious & authentic. The complimentary red salsa is the best in town! Ambiance is the classic, authentic Mexican cuisine type. First time being here - we will definitely be back!! Might have found our new favorite spot.

Yelp
I stopped into Fonda Oaxaquena this morning for a menudo. Having sat down and asked the waiter for a large menudo I was told that they were out of menudo. The whole reason that I went in at all is because today is my deceased Mother's Birthday. One of our rituals together was that we would go out for menudo. I am keeping the tradition alive. I ordered a carne asada super burrito and sat awaiting my food. The waiter, a younger gentleman in his twenties, checked on me three times asking if everything was okay.... before I'd ever even gotten my food. Strange. My burrito was great however moments later a small party of four Latinos walked in whom sat directly behind me. They ordered up three menudo's and they received them. Anither menudo hit the floor moments later. What bother's me is that albeit I am caucasian I am bilingual and speak fluent Spanish. I can't tell you how many times that I have referred my friends and passers by to Fonda Oaxaquena for their food and menudo for which I have had only one other time. There's really no excuse for blatant discrimination and ladies and gentlemen.... this was as blatant as it gets. I won't be returning to Oaxaquena. I feel foolish for having referred so many people to this place. I have even eaten at their Chelan location. It's pretty clear that these people do not want weddos in their restaurant and today they succeeded. Nice job!
google avatar

J Colleen B.

Yelp
I love, love, love this restaurant. The food is excellent and not the usual lettuce and shredded cheese all over everything. The mole sauce is incredible and the beans--I don't know how they make them but wow! And if good food isn't enough, the staff are great! They are super friendly and do everything they can to make your meal a great one. If you want some Mexican that is not the run of the mill, come to Fonda! (There's one in Chelan, too.)
google avatar

Second M.

Yelp
Everything was good, but there's really just one thing to say here: molé. If you've ever actually spent an afternoon making a Oaxacan mole, so you know both how time consuming it can be AND how delicious it is when done fresh and right, and if you've stopped even ordering mole @ Mexican restaurants because it always disappoints, you will not want to miss a visit to Fonda Oaxaqueña and you will not want to make the mistake of failing to order their mole.
google avatar

Colton K.

Yelp
The food was great but the service was kinda slow and the atmosphere was a little bad.The walls hap chips in them and it was a little run down but overall very cool place
google avatar

Alice W.

Yelp
This place kicks the crap out of any Mexican restaurant north of Oaxaca! It provides flavor, spice, and authenticity in spades.
google avatar

Wayne L.

Yelp
Was visiting Lake Chelan and, hard not to visit Wenatchess; as its along route. We were craving for a lunch and dropped by this Mexican place. Had the mole enchiladas, and the portions were a bang for the buck. The quality was great and the taste just, tasted organic and earthy. Very good, as you can taste the huge difference in overly processed sauce and food vs naturally organic food. The food brought back authentic Mexican tastes for my wife. I can taste the difference and definitely enjoyed this. In addition, the restaurant was interestingly decorated with pictures of different parts of Mexico. Overall, the price was reasonable for what was offered.
google avatar

Yelp
Best authentic Mexican restaurant in town! The food and service are consistently great! They always have daily specials!

Deborah A.

Yelp
Ate before I could take a picture! Lol. The food is AMAZING! Today I had a burrito de asada! Delicious! Never a disappointment! The service is absolutely wonderful! Friendly, attentive, personable, & above all else their heart is in it & it shows! The ambiance is very inviting, cheerful, colorful, yet quite relaxing with excellent music! I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT! Paul, Willie, & their entire staff are amazing!! Thank you!!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here based on Yelp reviews while prospecting the area with my sales team. Holy Guacamole!!! I'm so glad we came here. The salsa was off the hook delicious and my carne asada tacos took me back to the North County San Diego beaches of my youth. That simply means they were freaking awesome! Great seasoning on the meat and the onion/cilantro mix was perfect. They complimented the tacos with a grilled jalapeño (I love restaurants that do that) and radishes. I can't give enough kudos to this place...be sure to stop by and feast!
google avatar

Yazmin C.

Yelp
Holy smokes this place is amazing!!! From the chips to the main dish you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Muy buena comida buen Servicio Very good food good serviceAsada good food Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
The food! Not just a standard Mexican restaurant, this place used the freshest ingredients cooked perfectly to create dish after dish of excellence. The meals were on a surface level traditional, but the execution was anything but. My congrats to this small place for achieving something special. Side note: after using Yelp for almost a decade around the world. I am surprised to discover this place as the first I found a need to add to the reviews. What a great meal for my family and I.
google avatar

Andy C.

Yelp
My friends and I were craving Mexican and Fonda was recommended. We sat down and and from the moment they brought out the chips and salsa I knew my dinner was going to be delicious. From my margarita to my BURRITO HUATULCO (highly recommend) everything was just pure delicious. The staff at Fonda are so friendly and service is fantastic. If you're visiting Chelan, bring your friends and your family here for an amazing Mexican meal.
google avatar

Brian J.

Yelp
It was way too cold in there. I wish I would of known the crab meat enchiladas were canned I would've opted for "anything" else. It was was gross. Best part was the feee salsa.
google avatar

Yadira M.

Yelp
My family and I drive 3 hours just to eat at this amazing place. I am a city girl and as a Mexican woman, I am very picky with Mexican restaurants. While I have my faves in the Seattle - Tacoma area, I can say this place is by far the best I have had in the PNW. Everything is so authentic and homey and delicious. The service is amazing. The Mole Oaxaqueño is so good that you keep eating even though you're full. The only con I would say is that I always leave overstuffed because it's so good that I just eat and eat and even go for dessert. Def recommend this place if you're driving in this area.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I'm amazed this place has such good reviews! Not everything about the restaurant is bad -- the decor is bright and cheerful, as was our waiter. The guacamole was also really good (minus the giant slices of what looked like radish or onion mixed in). But the food! So bad. The rice has peas and carrots in it and looked like some kind of fried rice mix. Did not look or taste like Mexican rice. The Enchiladas Verdes had no flavor except a vinegary pickle taste to the sauce. They were topped with tons of shredded lettuce -- which looked and tasted like the kind that comes pre-shredded in a bag to fast food joints. My friend's Pollo Crema has celery and mushrooms in it, and the chicken tasted like it had been microwaved -- overdone and rubbery. We both got drinks -- my Mexican Sunset tasted like cheap fruit punch with a splash of liqueur, and her Piña Colada tasted like just coconut milk. I'd stay far far away from this place.
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
I have been sleeping on this place and I am soooooooo glad I tried it today. As soon as we sat down they brought out homemade warm tortilla chips with a homemade fire roasted salsa that was super thick and full of chunky veggies and a homemade bean dip as well. I ordered the enchiladas oaxaquenas and my boyfriend ordered the super burrito. My enchiladas were stuffed and I mean STUFFED with chicken and covered in a delicious mole sauce. And my boyfriends burrito was the best he has had to date he said. Service was prompt and excellent and so friendly. Our portions were huge. This is definitely a spot I will be coming back to.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Seafood could be fresher, but still somewhat tasty. I really like their chips salsa and bean appetizer. It's given to you right away and free of cost. My girl got the green enchiladas, they were good but not great. Doesn't have the authentic Mexican salsa taste. Taste more like canned salsa. I been here before and service has been better. I got a michelada and my girl a agua de horchata. Servers passed a few times and never asked us if we wanted a refill.

Jocelyn G.

Yelp
Food is good, delicious, and good amount for what you pay. They don't have a good selection of drinks, but you can always walk over to the store and buy something. The ladies were nice, waited an acceptable amount of time for the food.

Jorge A C.

Yelp
Good place to eat Mexican food, staff friendly and good customer service, bathrooms dirty
google avatar

Kristina C.

Yelp
Best Mexican place in Wenatchee. Had the lunch Mole Enchiladas and Flautas. Portions are huge (no way we could finish it). Food was hot, delicious and served quickly. Servers are attentive and helpful. The restaurant is very small with maybe 12 tables. They serve chips and salsa with the meal (extremely flavorful and fresh). If I had took I would have had dessert. Would absolutely go back. Parking is also a little challenging when they are busy.
google avatar

Jorge H.

Yelp
Really like this place but after becoming sick after eating here I'm cautions now , especially after the wife and i Both had the same meat , different dishes . Just be aware !

Marcela R.

Yelp
Camarones mexicanos and mole- i ask for vegetarian mole instead of chicken it was spinach and mushroom Amazing flavor and service.
google avatar

Hank A.

Yelp
Dammm! Hit the brakes! Get to this authentic Mexican restaurant! The food is super refreshing! Most Mexican restaurants all taste the same with some minor tweaks....overall though flavors don't jump off the plate! These guys deliver! Amazing salsa, and terrific flavors! I wholeheartedly agree with Yadira M.
