Such a great spot! Fonts Flora Brewery has an awesome beer selection - seriously something for everyone. The staff was so friendly … and patient as we sampled a few of their selections (again, everything sounds so good!!) The outdoor area is beautiful with tons of seating, and we loved hanging out in the milking barn - it’s way cooler inside and perfect for escaping the sun for a bit. There was a pizza truck and a taco food truck while we were there, and both were so good. We ended up walking around the property for a while - loved that we could bring our dog … he loved it too!!! The whole place was just really peaceful and fun to explore. Great beer, great vibes, great views… we’ll definitely be back!

I stopped in here while just driving around Lake James and was very impressed! We didn’t stay long, but we tried several different beers in a flight and enjoyed all of them. All of the staff were very friendly. The location is beautiful! Definitely recommend stopping here if you’re in the area!

I have been to the Fonta Flora location in Morganton several times. Have always been a fan of that location and LOVE the beverages they create. This past weekend, we were in the Lake James area and decided to give the farm location a try. What a GREAT location. BEAUTIFUL! Inside and outside seating. LOTS of big open green space. Dog friendly (on a leash). Kid friendly (when behaving). The staff was super friendly and helpful. The food truck was cranking out some amazing wood fired pizzas and other nibbles. The pork belly was incredible! We will be visiting again when we are back in the area.

We stopped by while on vacation. It’s beautiful location with great beer. Great space to bring family. The food from the pizza tuck was fantastic. We visited on a Friday and they had some cool local vendors selling hand made items. We will visit again.

Google
An incredible place! We make the trip from Black Mountain and it's certainly worth it. Wide open space and it's noteworthy that they keep it that way; they could certainly put more picnic tables and whatnot, but they keep it nice and open. Great selection of beers for most every palate and the beers are delectable. Great service, great atmosphere and unbeatable location.

We stopped heading home into AVL. The beer was complex, delicious, and so tasty. Very good ipas and fantastic non ipa beers. Really enjoyed the marzen and the sweet potato beers. We grabbed a case. Love the discount on cases. The brewery is beautiful and cozy. The kitchen pumps out delicious pizza with thoughtful flavor combinations and very delicious dough. Dog friendly too! Brendan and James are awesome! Thanks for taking care of weary travelers! We love great beer as ashevillians and this place is top notch!

Google
This place is perfection in everything they do. No notes. Great beer, the food was out of this world amazing. The white bean and cauliflower hummus was insane and life changing as was the hot honey pizza. 10/10 omfg go here right now.

Yelp
Drove out from Asheville as a recommendation from a friend, as I'd never been to lake James before. This brewery is a hidden gem. They had really fun drink options, including a brewed tea with a little rum added! It was perfect for how cold it was the day we went! Service was excellent & they explained drinks and menu options. I love that there are different areas to relax. Indoors, outdoors, or even in their "barn" space. Which turned out to be the best place to be due to the wind and cold! There's a pizza place on site. The negative here for me was not having many menu options or a gluten free dish. I ended up ordering a kale salad, as delicious as it was, it was $11 + tip, and I asked them to remove the croutons. Overall great space and great beers. They gave beer to go as well! Must stop if you're visiting lake James. Or want to escape Asheville for the afternoon. It's 1 hours drive from dt avl.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this brewery out for a very long time, but it just doesn't make sense to make the drive only for this. It's about 50+ minutes from Asheville. When I was hiking in the area today, it was a perfect time to stop by. Situated on an old farm, the space is beautiful. It has rolling acres and beautiful wildflowers. Plenty of parking. The indoor space had great music playing, but we opted to sit outside. If you are not under the porch area, which is small, you will be out in the middle of a field, which would be quite hot in the summer. We snagged some nice deck chairs. I have always loved their beers/other drinks. They have some adventurous flavors and unique options that aren't too kitschy. it's like they actually use local ingredients and come up with intelligent combinations. Their marketing/graphics is also incredibly beautiful all the time. But it's not a beautiful place - it is also amazing quality and taste. I always love their topsy choices. Today they had a slushy with cucumber mint, but I opted for some thing that I had not had previously. They have some really interesting other beers/barley wines on draft. I had something with the word razz in it and it was delicious. Like everything. I wanted to take some to go, but unfortunately you have to commit to four of kind. I know, sometimes Whole Foods sells them individually. Unfortunately, the food truck seems to only operate Thursday through the weekend so we missed it. They do have some chips and ice cream on site if you need a snack. I'd love to see other locations.

Yelp
Awesome beers! Tried several getting a flight and took home some Daffopilz Flats. Paired with a fig bacon pizza that was sensational. Staff were really friendly and helpful with the beer choices. Perfect place to go after a hike around Lake James :)

Yelp
So many fabulous beers from which to choose. I asked if I could get half pours and the answer was yes. So I ordered a half pour of the double IPA and was presented with a full pour. He offered to dump it and give me a half but I couldn't imagine wasting the beer so I accepted (and paid for) the full pour. Then our group ordered a few other items including two slushy type beverages which were very refreshing and I highly recommend trying them. We sat outside on one of the many picnic tables - with umbrellas! Yay for sun shade. The view is beautiful. The parking lot was full when we arrived but the service was quick. We ordered from the food truck and I don't believe they are affiliated with the brewery but their offerings were unique and tasty. The brewery is near the big lake but about an hour or so east of Asheville. Go check it out.

Yelp
We had the best afternoon here! They had a yummy wood fired pizza truck onsite, sell some locally made snacks and ice cream cups (highly recommend the Arroz con Leche!) and of course their delicious beer. Service was super friendly and they made great recommendations. It's a beautiful setting and a perfect way to spend an afternoon with your favorite people.

Yelp
Yep. This is the spot. Absolutely fantastic beers and probably one of the best locations we've ever had the pleasure of visiting. It's just gorgeous, everyone was super nice and we loved our beer. Can't wait to go back if we are ever up that way again.

Yelp
Excellent beers especially the bourbon barrel aged imperial stouts. Huge space with lots of seating options. Friendly staff

Irma W.

Yelp
The atmosphere and ambiance was the best !! The outdoor area was so serene and a good way to meet people!! Lots of great selections of wine!!

Yelp
vibes, food trucks, music, and beer is always on point! a beautiful sunset to boot did not hurt either.

Yelp
We drove by here after a hike and flipped a u-turn to check it out. Highly recommend! Beers were great. The pizza from the food truck (which appears to be permanent) was awesome. We had the one with pesto and chorizo, but everything that came out to other tables looked so good. People were so friendly and we talked to lots of people while there which always makes for a great time. We'll be back!

Yelp
Delicious beer on tap - perfect with our picnic from J D's Barbecue in Connolly Springs! Such a relaxing afternoon! Highly recommend!

Yelp
What a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon after a nice hike in Asheville! I've been wanting to visit Fonta Flora since we started researching a trip to Asheville and I'm glad we made it on our second time in town! This place is definitely off the beaten path but oh so worth the drive! All of their beers have locally sourced ingredients when possible like the Paw Paw fruit sour we had on this visit which was quite possibly one of the best beers I've ever had. They have a large tap list full of sours, IPAs, and other interesting beers all while keeping in mind local ingredients. This location also has a pizza food truck on site which was delicious and I'll review separately - all in all one of the most scenic breweries I've ever been to with some of the most unique beers. I'll definitely be back some day!

Yelp
Nice stop for a very nice beer - I had the Fontana - outside area nice a clean and airy. They do samples and have food trucks for some real food nice little stop if you are riding by.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Always a fun time. A ton of beer selections. But if you are hungry too, be warned. The food trucks are hit or miss and usually miss. Maybe they have 1 or 2 trucks but the wait for your food is long (45-60 min) and they run out of various items. Farm-like atmosphere is unbeatable though.

Yelp
We visited after a trip to lake James state park (right down the road) and I was very pleased! With our two dogs in tow there was plenty of outdoor seating on plentiful land to walk around on. I would love to come back after a strenuous hike on a warmer day - what a reward to come to after! I had the coriander beer (sorry didn't get the name- very blue moon-ish) and it was very good. My fierce- hop loving husband had the "hop beard" and it wasn't as hoppy as he'd have liked but it didn't stop him from finishing it. I enjoyed this brewery for the outdoor space (inside is small with 3ish high top tables) but had two kitties (one in a box on the bar top just chillin) which made me smile. Their food truck (I think is a permanent one) sold out two hours to closing which bummed us out as we'd been on the road for 2+ hours and were hangry, but that's good for them, just bad for us.

Yelp
Probably our very favorite beer in an amazing location to boot! No matter what your taste preference, they'll have something sure to excite the tastebuds! They have an on-site wood fired pizza truck outside (or some snacks inside) if you're looking for a bite to accompany your delicious beverage. On nice days, sit outside and enjoy the serene settling (at night the star gazing is fabulous), and definitely keep your eye on them as they tend to gather a great group of locals for their summertime farmers market!! Always good things happening here-the beer is the icing on top!

Yelp
I've been camping at lake James quite a few times this summer and instead of taking off work, I jump in my car and head here for my meetings. They don't have WIFI but there is a strong signal for me to connect. They have plenty of picnic tables with umbrellas. I set up shop, order a beer, sometimes grab one of their wood fired pizzas *SO GOOD* and crank out what needs to be done. My boss even complimented the scenery once. On a clear day you get a great view of Linville Gorge but the brewery itself has a lovely setting. The beers are damn good too! And I love the selection they have for takeaway. No matter what my taste buds are craving, they have it. And they even have gluten free options! Win, Win! The staff are some good people. Super happy to chat if they're not busy. I am fortunate to enjoy the lake on the weekdays, so I've yet to run into a crowd here but I'm sure it happens!

Yelp
Just so beautiful. The space is fantastic. Adjacent to Lake James State Park. They have an on site food truck with great burgers and just the best pizza, all farm raised beef and natural NC grains used in all the pasta.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I loved this place! I highly recommend it. Beers: delicious. I had two different ones and loved them both. Get adventurous! Beertenders: They were great! Friendly and happy to offer suggestions. Building/Parking: There is ample parking, right beside the building. The interior is just the right size. They have ample exterior areas - perfect on a nice warm day. Pro tip: it is the only brewery in that area, so definitely don't miss it!
google avatar

Camie L.

Yelp
Loved this place especially the beer that's named after the brewery and the chunky cats Whip and Will that hang out there!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful place! It is out in the country and you have to pass several sketchy areas to get to it, but I promise it's worth it. The whole place is just gorgeous, from the inside to the outside. There are horses in the back pasture grazing. It's an extremely relaxing place. I really had a nice time. The bartenders are nice. They give samples and are knowledgeable about the beers. They have some different ones than the other Fonta, but some the same. Come visit! It makes such a cool day trip.

Yelp
My wife and I spent two nights in Morganton mostly with the intent of visiting FF's farm location. We caught a beautiful afternoon arriving just before they opened. They've got a setup perfect for a pandemic and for those of us that generally just don't like to be packed in a crowd. The setting out back is well spaced, natural, and peaceful. It's the perfect place to relax with a beer. I went with a couple low on the alcohol range and they were still fantastic. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Beautiful place to enjoy a post-hike beer in the Linville Gorge/Lake James area. I've actually started looking for shorter hikes so I can get here faster. Definitely deserves five stars for the ambiance and quality of the beer. The customer service could be better. They're a little impressed with themselves and seem annoyed when asked questions about the beer (It's a brewery y'all. I shouldn't have to apologize for not being familiar with Chinook hops or the cold-fermentation process). Overall though, will 10/10 be back.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Don't understand how anyone can give this place less than 5 stars. To start, the beer is sensational - it's well made and interesting. Prices reasonable, especially considering all the work that goes into make their beer. And the atmosphere made for one of the coolest breweries I've ever been to, and I've been to hundreds. It was probably 30 degrees out the day I went, but that didn't stop me from sitting outside and taking in the blue sky and country setting. Bartender was nice too. Highly recommended, even if you don't like beer that much, and certainly worth a detour if you're making the drive between Charlotte and Asheville.

Steve H.

Yelp
Great microbrewery; sampled several different beers and all were excellent. The host Todd was fantastic, he took the time to explain the nuances of the brewing process for the beer we sampled. Super relaxed atmosphere and all-around a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area.

Yelp
So imagine if you will...drinking delicious and amazingly creative Fonta Flora beers on a revitalized dairy farm in the middle of Lake James State Park. The views are just "Whoah!". It just doesn't get any better than this. What they've already accomplished here is stunning. The main barn is big, beautiful and charming - the materials and desire to maintain as much authenticity as possible really shows. The tasting room is just off the barn and continues that earthy, rustic feel - really love the tractor seat bar stools! If you've never tried beer made by a master like Todd Boera - you need to do so immediately. Most of what goes into his beers is locally sourced whenever possible. What better way to improve access to local produce than to grow it yourself? And on a farm.... My first visit here was short but sweet - currently they are running Winter Hours on Fridays (evening), Saturdays and Sundays (afternoons). I can't wait to see how this place blossoms and grows this spring and summer. It's going to be an amazing destination for lovers of skillfully crafted beer.

Yelp
Best beers, selection, and ambiance you'll find anywhere. Try any of the IPAs or the Wild Ales!

Yelp
Friendly staff and, even when power went out from a storm, they were accommodating. Always great drink.

Yelp
Cute place to grab a beer and chill out. Great views and lots of space to spread out. The beer was great and service friendly. Fun to do something different on vacation!

Yelp
This brewery has great beers and a great layout. However, it is awful for a group. My group came and the staff was overwhelmed. They were rude and we received awful service. It is sad that the staff can not handle a big group. Do not come here with a big group unless you are prepared to be disrespected and ignored. This is sad as this is a great brewery and great layout.

Yelp
Cool concept. Loved the location. The staff was friendly. I was not a fan of the beers.

Yelp
First time visiting the Nebo location. Upon entering the establishment, we were greeted by two very friendly cats that my kids were happy to meet. Our experience was downhill from there. The bartenders were less than friendly and provided very poor customer service. Nonetheless, we introduced ourselves and tried to make casual conversation, but they declined to participate. Later, I re-entered the bar from the patio for another drink, and was told to cover my whole face with a mask, as part of my nose was exposed. Seems silly given there were several tables of people inside with no masks on at all. I complied, got my drinks and went back outside. A few minutes later, I was told my children can't be inside without an adult, even though they were just hanging out by the wall getting warm as it was very cold outside. I went to the restroom as we were leaving, and when I came out, I was approached by a bartender that said, "your mask needs to cover your whole face", I said, "I can't cover my face" and she said, "then leave now". I said, "I am leaving", and she said, "and don't come back!". I said, "I have no intentions of coming back". While there, I spoke to one of the owners who was very friendly. I wish fonta flora the best, but needed to expose the poor service we received from the incredibly unfriendly bartenders.

Bettina S.

Yelp
Love the beer and wine. Love the vibe. BUT....dont go if you're planning to grab a bite. They have 2 food trucks that when open are really good. Problem is its hit or miss if they are open and if they are open its hit or miss if they can serve you.. during the week only one truck is open. This the second time out of three visits that the food truck could not serve us. The first time the guy in the truck said he wasn't taking any more orders for the night as he had 30 pizza orders to do. It was 7pm and there were maybe 15 people around. The second time it was 7pm and the truck was sold out of food. The customer before us and my husband and I ended up leaving. Such a shame. We will think twice before driving all the way out again.

Ezhil N.

Yelp
Its a great place to hang outside, but don't expect a friendly service you wont get it. If you have kids keep them on a leash they don't like kids running around either.
google avatar

Christopher R.

Yelp
Great beer, chill farmhouse vibe! Check it out if you're in Morganton! Best Merch if any brewery anywhere

Kenneth J.

Yelp
We came after a hike and wanted to have a quick beer. They were so rude and unaccommodating that we were all very put off. The man that worked there never even stood up to greet us or offer anything and gave us very short unhelpful answers. Needless to say, we will not go back.

Jan S.

Yelp
Me and 3 friends did some day tripping and were so excited to visit. Such a disappointment. They were so snobby, we waiting inside for 10 minutes and no one even spoke to us. We left, never getting to taste anything.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Actually stumbled upon this place when I was staying at Lake James for the weekend and looking for a brewery to visit nearby. It's a very cool brewery kind of out in the country. Large outdoor space to play games or just sit and relax while you enjoy a beer. The inside is also very cute and quaint. Staff was very friendly even though I stopped in an hour before closing. They even offered a second beer when they were 10 mins from closing for the evening. They're also dog friendly! Would recommend checking out if you're in the area and looking for a low key outing!

Michael C.

Yelp
THE BEST BREWERY IN NORTH CAROLINA! Hands down best beer, great location, and amazing staff. I'm sorry my dog put the cats on edge.
