THE place to get authentic chai in DUMBO. Great vibe and atmosphere. Wonderful proprietors. The food is very good - nice place to grab some down time and relax as well. Highly recommend.

Lovely cafe concept, with a unique selection of drinks and varying quality food items. I had a comforting masala chai that I wish was served hotter. The owners and staff were very nice I wouldn’t recommend this place primarily for food. I know its a cafe and not a restaurant, so I am reviewing it as such. The paneer bowl was decent and refreshing for someone who wants a bite while stopping by. The tomato soup and cheese bread were unique, but quite simple and small for $16. I do think some options could be improved for the price to be competitive with other good cafe food. I love the concept of this cafe, and it seems to have formed some community. Hope to stop by again when im in Dumbo and want a drink!

Great welcoming atmosphere with some spiritual elements in the decor, chai made in front of you on the stove. India forward menu overall. However, I was surprised when barista said that their mango lassy is made with milk (you can chose a non-dairy option), but not with fermented milk (like yogurt, keffir, dahi etc) like it is supposed to be. The coffee was just ok. Laptop friendly, perfect for a coupe of hours of work.

Beautiful store in the chai house. Good variety of chai and all made with oat milk! (Lactose free) My chai was alright, I wish it was a little more warm. Quick service and very nice ambiance.

This is one of my favorite places to go to. Besides my love for their beverage and food selection, I enjoy the space itself as well as the music they play. Additionally, when it comes to sitting, I prefer being at a low angle, so the brightly colored floor cushions dotted about in the café is a highlight for me too.

We started with a cutting chai which was nice and a small serving in a cute Indian roadside glasses. Quite unlike the huge paper cup options serving 12 or 16 ounces of the beverage. It was an Indian fare suitably adapted for a western clientele. The paneer or chicken bowls were good with a nice presentation and a variety of items in small quantities. We had both the paneer option and the chicken bowl too. I enjoyed both but the lady members of the group really enjoyed the paneer option because it was a somewhat different presentation of paneer compared to a traditional style. However, the khichdi was very slightly burnt which wasn't visible but was slightly discernable by its taste. The crunchy element in the bowl was a nice touch. We also had the kathi roll with and without the bacon and it had a nice taste and was fairly filling too. We enjoyed the outing and by New York standards it was reasonably priced too. Before I forget they also have a small section for selling ethnic Indian style handicraft items. I enjoyed the outing and most likely we will visit again the next time we are in New York.

Fontainhaus is light filled, spacious new Indian cafe and store. First of all, love that they have chilies pickling in the window! Yes, you can buy them at their store. The space looks great. Some of the low seats look uncomfortable for eating at the tables, but folks were making it work. It's new, so they are finding their sea legs food wise. The menu posted at the register has multiple crossed out items. I felt disappointed because there were quite a few dishes missing. I see the same menu is online. I know it's new, but it's usually better to just delete the items you don't have and print a new menu of what you do have IMHO. I wish the chai was much spicier. The cool thing is they have these very tasty Indian spiced syrups that you can add to your drinks. We bought one at their store. We had a couple of nibbles. The kathi-rito was very delicious. The Bun Maska tasted like it was day old. It was much better toasted and rebuttered when I took it home. The store is well curated. Good place for gifts. I do hope they get their menu together.

The coffee shop is absolutely incredible in all aspects including food and drinks, service, and ambiance! For food, we ordered a breakfast Kathi-Rico and lemon cake. The Kathi-roll was flavorful and filling!! The owner even brought us speciality hot sauces (pictured here) for it. The lemon cake was so light, moist, and airy, tasted like lemon but not overwhelmingly so. For drinks, we ordered masala chai, nitro chai, and nescoffee. The masala chai was sweetened with jaggery, staying true to the authentic Indian roots. The nitro chai was especially delicious and perfectly balanced. It’s iced, not too sweet, not too milky as most chais are different cafes are. The service was also excellent. We met the owners of cafe, who are kind and sweet people. They answered all our questions and were very attentive. Their hospitality was evident in their attention to detail to our orders, the quality of the food, the overall service provided. The cafe also has a store that supports many Indian owned speciality brands. It’s clear that this is a shop that intends to invite everyone to explore Indian culture, cuisine, and hospitality. The ambiance was warm, inviting, and felt like home. Perfect to catch up with friends, go on a date night, or even just relax and unwind solo. I would absolutely recommend this cafe. 10/10 in all respects!
