Yelp
Food Bazaar is my go-to supermarket for larger runs of a wide variety of items. I get my canned goods, deli meats, some produce. This is also my go-to spot for seafood and bulk meats.
They have an unbelievable produce selection. We're talking things like Hawaiian purple-flesh sweet potatoes, guavas, durian, shiso leaf, cactus, banana leaves, Korean melons, herbs that I've never heard of before, and so much more. Variety of items changes as well.
Their rotisserie chicken is the best value and the best quality around the area. I don't think there has ever been one time upon returning from FB when I haven't immediately eaten a leg of the chicken. It's much juicier than any other place.
In terms of variety, they excel - there are whole aisles dedicated to Indian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Greek, Peruvian cuisines. There's Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise, tamarind paste, mochi, dozens of types of kimchi, several different miso pastes, and there are countless types of curries, seaweeds, jerk seasoning paste, rice noodles, Asian rices, and so much more. Looking for that foreign ingredient from a recipe? You'll most likely find it here. It's fun to peruse those aisles just to try something new.
And the beer selection is pretty good!
As much as I do like FB itself, there are several drawbacks. First off, the music is always old classics - think "Mr. Sandman" - it's charming the first few minutes or so, but it really starts to get to you after a while.
People are egregious offenders of leaving their carts in the middle of the walkway. This place gets busy, so if your nerves aren't already shot from the music, they will be from the lack of common sense from some of the patrons. I wish they offered those "half-carts" with two layers to prevent cart traffic. Because FB is has a great variety, they checkout lines are long as well as filled with people with tons of stuff. This can be maddening.
While the prices at FB are pretty good, some prices have much to be desired: some household goods are several dollars more than other places. Lettuce boxes/bags are expensive at $3.99 for a small and $6.99 for a large. Some herbs come in big packages for a good price, even if I don't need that much, but then there's parsley that's $1.99 - twice as much as most places around the area.
Also, not really the fault of Food Bazaar, but it is located on a busy highway.
Overall, it's a good supermarket.
