17 Best Things to Do in Amsterdam

"The Foodhallen stands out among other food halls thanks to its top-notch offerings, serving everything from reimagined Dutch classics to Vietnamese and Mexican treats. Housed inside a former tram depot, the venue is buzzing at all hours of the day. Aggressively guard your table if you manage to get one at all. Gin & Tonic Bar makes what you’d think it would with a range of different ingredients (try the one with jenever for something a bit different). Beerbar, meanwhile, pours more than 60 different local and international beers, including two brewed specifically for Foodhallen. It’s an ideal refueling stop at any time of day, particularly in winter when you need to thaw out after a long day of sightseeing." - Meredith Bethune, Jennifer Ceaser

"Amsterdam’s answer to the food-hall craze is this bustling indoor market, set in a converted tram depot on the city’s west side. There’s an ever-changing lineup of around 20 international street-food stalls serving everything from burritos to banh mi to barbecue, not to mention mainstays like burgers and pizza. Be sure to try gourmet versions of the famed Dutch snack bitterballen at De Ballenbar. Four drinking establishments—including one dedicated solely to gin and tonics—round out the offerings. Lunch is the less hectic time to visit, but if you want to be part of the scene, arrive early in the evening to ensure you’ll find a seat. There’s live music on Tuesdays and DJs on Friday and Saturday nights."

"This is the first large-scale indoor food market in the Netherlands and it’s already proven to be a great idea. Here, you can choose between Vietnamese banh mi, gourmet grilled cheese (this is the birthplace of gouda, after all), brick-oven pizza, Swedish meatballs, and so much more. Kids—and grownups with a sweet tooth to quell—go especially nutty for the crêpe stand and the dress-your-own-waffle station. Fair warning: seating room is very much first-come, first-served, so there may be some awkward stalking involved. "

Foodhallen is such a conviennent place. It's open late at night and it serves a variety of different foods which caters to everyone. The only thing that I had an issue with was how loud the music was and how cramped it felt in the dining area, but that's not an issue for everyone. From the pictures you'll see that we really liked the crepe place. I really wish they had more than 2 kiosks that served exclusively sweets !

This is a really great place if you are not sure where you want to eat, but it’s also a great place to hand out with friends! This is an open concept, I would grab the table first and then think about going up to find something to eat. It can be difficult as the point is to mingle with others but as a group we just wanted a space to ourselves and that can be difficult to find so I would go earlier if that’s what you want too so that you grab a table. The food is great! There is such a variety there! I would recommend the pizza for sure, this is fresh, simple and just full of flavour. Of course Bitterballen is a must for our friends to try, they had such a variety but we still say just go for the classic! Chicken in sweet chilly sauce was so tender and this was great, the nachos were amazing, I would recommend these also. We went for the whole share wash dish concept so that we could have a taste of everything. If you have a sweet tooth, the crepes were amazing, I think it’s very over price for 1 it is €10 euro but for the experience it was still okay. In general, this is more on the expensive side in my opinion but I think for a night out with friends, great vibes, great food, it’s worth it, I would do it again. You do also have some nice stores as you walk in, one caught my eye and this is beautiful for little kids , cards and more.

Loved this place! Amazing collection of food stalls from across the globe, and the place has a lively vibe to it with the crowds and live DJ. Street food stalls from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Italy, Japan, China, India, the list goes on! Tried samples from several stalls - made for a great evening well spent! Slightly removed from the city center, it was a 20-min Uber ride to get here - not too bad. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Amsterdam. Tends to get crowded at peak hours - so grab a table first, then walk around ordering food.

We visited over the weekend and there was a DJ playing viral music—it was a really fun atmosphere. Everything is super clean and well-organized. The food selection is excellent, and there’s truly something for everyone. My recommendation is to try one dish from several different stands so you can taste more, because everything is absolutely delicious!

Google
These places are great as you can basically cater for all needs and are usually very good food and here is no exception. We ate here and had a drink plenty to choose and all looked and smelt good. Very busy and bustling place but we found a seat no problem only thing was the wait for food as most stalls had only 1 person working who was serving cooking etc so the wait time was a little long. Didnt really matter as we had nothing else to do.

Foodhallen is such a great place to visit, there are tons of food options and it’s a lively place. My boyfriend and I love going here for date days. It’s also a great place to meet with friends, since there is always something that everyone likes! So many options and such good food!

I only recommend visiting the place for the vibe. It is very lively and loud music and peoples conversations overlap yours. The food is ok and the price is way more than deserve. I have tried one of the seafood places, greek, pasta and falafel. All are ok except the falafel was honestly great👍🏼.

Crowded and loud. However, we were able to nab a table for two pretty quickly which was good for a weeknight. A band was playing when we were there which added entertainment. The bitterballen I thought was good but as a tourist, I don't really have a basis to judge. Many options to choose from.
