Google
This is a great little local market. It is very convenient with most of the options you'll be needing. Produce section is very clean with the freshest of produce. There is a salad bar and hot food/deli section that looks and smells great. Prices can be a little higher but paying for the convenience is worth the extra pennies.

Patrick Evancho

Google
used to be better on pricing, now it is way overpriced. 1.5lbs of chicken came out to $24, I understand city pricing, but $16/lb for chicken is outrageous. The cashiers and staff are not friendly at all either.

suma chinta

Google
The hot food and salad bar are great and the staff is friendly.

Kevin Rich

Google
Very nice cashiers. Good variety & quality of food. Nice prepared food selection & good roasted chickens available.

Nadia Zamany

Google
Probably the worst quality of produce, meat, and dairy. One day after buying my overpriced groceries from foodies my ground beef was spoiled, my eggs smelled sour, and my produce started molding. Absolutely ridiculous. Do not shop here !!

Richard Rosenblum

Google
Every time I come here prices listed for the producer always incorrect. Everything's always higher than what it's actually marked. Staff members are able to correct the price as listed for food. It's very irritating to try to buy something and then told that it's actually a different price than what is listed. produce is very expensive at this store due to the fact that it's located a convenient location in the very expensive part of boston. But I do expect prices to be accurate

Google
A South End Boutique sized supermarket. A little pricey, but convenient for SOWA. The Fresh Deli, Hot bar, Salad bar and Soups are worth the trip. My Favorites are the fried chicken Wings, etc @ Hot bar. Italian Wedding Soup, and others. Also the Ground beef burrito and meatballs, and the tuna salad@the deli. Great variety of foods at the deli. And great freshly made sandwiches as well as pre packaged mini sandwiches. Addictive baked goods..Muffins, Loafs, Cookies, Brownies, Pies, Cakes, etc. There is also Wines and other alcohol products. Very Convenient and Clean.

Google
Expensive but a convenient location and produce is good. The biggest issue is that every time I buy bread from them, it goes moldy 2-3 days after and long before their sell-by date. Edit: After years of going here when I’m desperate, lowering to two starts. Probably 25% of the time I go, one of the items I want to purchase is already expired. I don’t understand why it is acceptable for a grocery store to consistently sell expired products.

Laura S.

Yelp
The location is convenient, with not many other markets within 8-10 blocks ans the selection is larger than a convenience store, however, as others have said, everything costs 1-1.50 more than an expensive store like whole foods or roche. On top of that, I've often bought produce or soy milk here that when I get home, turns out to be spoiled or past the expiration date.

Jerry A.

Yelp
It's a very convenient place to go but the down side is that the prices for everything is out this world to be honest. Yes their good is better than others but if you want food/products on the cheaper side and good quality I would not recommend. Not hate to this establishment at all

Matthew M.

Yelp
Essential shipping only. Overpriced by about double (including Whole Foods) and the absolute worst unfriendly customer service. Must employees don't care or bother to day hello to customers at any point during shopping or at checkout. I'll go if absolutely necessary, but only if that's the case.

Shawn S.

Yelp
Walked in to grab a few little things I needed, unfortunately I couldn't find what I was looking for. No big deal, but I asked the security guard who was working if he could point me in the direction of a pharmacy and holy cow was he a dick. Refused to answer a simple question then proceeded to laugh about it. Won't be going there again SOLEY because of him.

Yelp
I appreciate Foodies as a local market! Their produce doesn't have a lot of variety but the items are fresh. It can be a little pricier for out of season items, but their in-season produce is good. Their seafood is good, and the rest of the market has all you need.

Vydesh R.

Yelp
Be careful with the packaged ground meat.. we picked up something that looked fresh but upon opening it, the inside was very brown..

Yelp
I just left foodies south end about a half hour ago! The girl that served me was downright rude! She was actually giving out I had 2 transactions, she pushed my second transaction aside to serve another customer, then rudely giving out to the next customer about me, (I had AirPods in, but nothing playing through them) so I heard every word. After serving the next customer, she turned to me and said "you should have told me you had another transaction " I did ask her politely to do them separately. There was no "thank you" or "have a good day".. maybe she was having a bad day, I just got the brunt of it. I don't know. But she needs to work on her customer service!

Carlos G.

Yelp
Expensive. Found a cheap cheese for $0.65. The cashier said she wouldn't sell it to me. She asked her boss and her boss said ok our mistake. Sell it to him. When she left she just held the cheese. Im like charge me the $0.65 for my cheese. She says no I'm not selling it to you good by. Wow! Crazy place: not worth my time to argue but enough time to post it online.

Curtis C.

Yelp
I have given this store many chances over the past few years but will not go back again. The staff are mostly miserable and you will be hard pressed to even get a hello out of any of them. I was spending about a hundred dollars a week in this place-or 5000.00 a year! Things are hard for us all these days. But if you hate your job and don't like people, do us all a favor-do something else. Never Again! You are hereby canceled by my wallet

Reg L.

Yelp
Whenever I return to the neighborhood I'm afraid I'm going to see a big open pit on the corner of Washington and whatever and a sign depicting the chrome and glass condo project coming in spring. My kids more or less grew up here and the place hasn't really changed in the 18 years since I first went. The staff was always great and we got to know some of them. Prices aren't terrible and the wine selection is surprisingly decent as are the prepared dishes. I know the review is reading like a 3.5 but being a community anchor is worth a lot. Whole Foods will never have a tenth of the character and charm of a community market like Foodie's. Here's hoping my kids can return to the South End one day and say "this is the place my parents used to take me to", instead of "this mid-rise condo with parking, full-time concierge and a community roof-deck used to be a cool little grocery store". Brought to you with the generous support of the Titanic Nut Company.

Ellen H.

Yelp
Bad!! Very expensive.. I am a new Yorker and I know well when someone tries to rip me off! And plus.. the vegetables are NOT fresh ... Be aware people!

Jeanne P.

Yelp
Foodies never fails me. If you haven't been in there because you think a bigger retailer will do it better, you're nit doing yourself any favors. Foodies has more variety than any other supermarket, and if you ask for anything they'll order it and have it on the shelves the next week. Was standing by the meat this morning and the butcher came out to ask if I wanted something I wasn't seeing. He then went into the back and got it for me. Excellent service, friendly employees, great fresh produce, meat, and prepared food. If you honestly want to "shop local" then here's your chance without ever having to skimp.

Ann D.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood market, wished I lived next door. Amazing produce and meat sections. No fish but there is a fish market next door. Check out the cheese display too. Friendly staff at deli counter, prices may be a bit high but the quality is too.

Damien S.

Yelp
It's not that I'd ever need to make a trip to Foodie's, what with any necessary thing needed closer and with easier parking. However, when strolling the South End looking to get a green pepper up in this mamajama, the FUM shone a beacon of freshness, so I popped inside. The standouts among a cornucopia of consumer packaged (and Washington Street priced) goods could be found in the freezer. LaLoo's Goat Milk Ice Creams, Good Tastes Gourmet Mac & Cheese (fig and brie = in my face) and other tough-to-finds make for an easy, chilly 10 minute perusal. Also, Pain d'Avignon baguettes? Hells flippin' yeah. Otherwise, I left the grocery wondering what the hub-bub was all about. Produce fit the bill, ringing in on par with Shaw's with slightly higher quality at a fraction of the selection, but all else struck me as an oddly disheveled specialty shop. Ups to the Batch salted caramel segueing into sixers of Magners. Cavities, aisle 6.

Matt P.

Yelp
I have been an avid shopper of this grocer since my adolescence, so it pains me to write this... So first i came in as I normally do a few times a month to pick up a kale salad and a few pieces of fruit for lunch. I do recall a time when the price for this product didn't become astronomical (a whopping $11.99/LB for some foliage). This time i do the same and went back to office. Opened food to eat and there are several long brunette strands all in the kale salad. I bought two containers, so open the second and there is a hair very pronounced in that container as well. Called and an older gentleman answered said he was the manager and was very apologetic offered a refund and gift cards and said come when you can. I arrive evening time and was met by a woman manager on shift that was not polite nor kind and didn't take my experience into account at all. She reluctantly gave me a refund asking if i have the same card or i can't get one (which i produced said card and never asked for any other form of refund), and sorta questioned if i really found hair in the food and packaging. I am not saying I will never go back because it is apart of the community i grew up around, but even with covid there should be extra care and heightened sensitivity to customer buying competitive priced food products from there.

Yelp
They are now a UPS checkpoint! They are a convenient shop for quick items. They have a little bit of everything and even a small organic section. I also enjoy the local ice creams that they sell. They have a small parking lot so you can park there or on the street.

Yelp
drove by many times but never stopped the car in the area to go in. finally, tonight is the night. dinner companion and i went in for a post-meal peek, thinking the avocado was 2/$1 (crazy, right?) according to the sign. turns out, it was 2/$4 -- the glare made the "4" look like "1" from afar. ha! since we were already in there, might as well do a round. they have a decent variety of offerings, from a couple shelves of wines, personal hygiene items, deli counter/prepared food, to your regular produce, meat, and dried goods. couple raw seafood items available. in general, regular priced items seem a bit high ($7.99 a wrap smaller than a burrito, $9.99 pre-packed salad that doesn't look enough for a meal, $2 avocado in late summer/near fall), but then it is the heart of South End after all. sale items are in fact quite enticing, but I would be discerning of the quality. it appears the shop puts things on sale not because they got a big batch and want to attract customers, but for the practicality of getting rid of soon-expiring items. but hey, if the price justifies a slight compromise on quality, then sure, go for it. i was actually tempted by a big chunk of pork butt tonight at $2.49/lb - a good slab of meat that can easily feed 3-4 for only ~$8. butttt (ha), a quick purvey of the meat section got me hesitant: many of the meat (no sale either) looked... "aghast". seems like they were at a stage in which that pretty meat pink glow had begun to give way to a washed out brown-gray hue. also, it's not just one or two packs of them that looked like that, either, but a good number in the entire open fridge. so even the pork butt that's been staring at me didn't look bad at all by itself, i started to doubt how their handle/rotate they meat products in general to result in this rather unappetizing scene. so...pass! swung around to the produce area... stuff looked ok, but i wasn't quite paying attention as i had no plan for food shopping at the moment. organic grapes were on sale at $2.99/lb -- or was it $1.99?? -- either way, a great price. but the grapes looked a bit tired and bruise-y. so there, you get what you pay for. Nelly's free range (not organic) eggs are currently at $2.99/dz. pretty good deal. but after the round, i say make sure you check the expiry date. despite being "stuck" in a local grocery store on a Friday night working a shift, the cashier had a smile on her face and was not afraid of human connection. my friend is the chatty type, and the cashier was a good sport, so kudos to that. i guess foodie's is the type of store that i'd be grateful to find in the middle of nowhere when i need a quick trip. but it will hardly become my go-to for all the reasons listed above. bonus: there's a sign that says parking in the back.

Chris C.

Yelp
Foodie's rocks. It's clean, well organized (once you figure out the layout -- like any other grocery.) There are fresh veggies, a great meat department, a full deli counter with all sorts of cooked hot items, a large cheese selection and tubs of olives, and other antipasti. They also offer a decent selection of wine and beer at good prices. For everything else, there are usually a range from store brand to higher end, to super-expensive organic versions. There's rarely something missing, and often I can only find stuff here in greater Boston good stores (4 kinds of truffle oil? Check!) The people who work there from the butchers, to deli-folk, to stock-people and especially the checkout people are as nice and helpful as can be. And for those who say it's expensive: I have done the comparison twice over the years, and with a very few exceptions, Foodie's is cheaper than Stop and Shop at South Bay, or Shaw's in the Pru. Fresh veggies, especially are cheaper here. If it was ONLY because Stop and Shop at South Bay is enraging and the staff are clueless, and the Pru Shaw's utterly confusing layout, I'd go here. But fair pricing (mostly LOWER pricing) and incredible variety make it my first choice. PS - they don't carry much fish, because Morse next door does.... another amazing review to be had for that place!) PPS - free parking in back

Mark E.

Yelp
Very Nice store , clean & organized had a great selection for being a smaller grocery store prices are good , have parking in the back very friendly staff and speedy checkout found everything i needed & more. I will be back

Liz T.

Yelp
Foodies is right around the corner from my apt. They have a good selection with the exception of them not having Lipton Onion Soup mix to make onion dip. What??? Hard to believe they had every other imaginable choice but not a staple like Onion Soup mix. They have good fresh produce, good meat selection and great prepared meals. They are a bit pricey, but I am usually only shopping for one and since I don't have a car the convenience is worth the price.

Jenn S.

Yelp
Excellent neighborhood market I have gone here over 10 years - there staff are hard workers . Good local grocery store

Vanessa L.

Yelp
It's a decent place because it's very close to my apartment, so I can quickly grab something. But if you have the time / chance, then definitely go to better and bigger markets for weekly groceries. It's more expensive and kinda lack variety here comparing to larger grocery stores like Wholefood and Shop Shop nearby.

Randi L.

Yelp
Family owned, independent and local supermarket since 1997 in the South End on Washington St across from the Holy Cross Catherdral. Great takeout headed up by Brian who is a trained chef. The meat department is outstanding with Prime and Choice meats . You can also order custom cuts too. Wine and Beer department too! They sell organic produce .

Marilyn T.

Yelp
This used to be my go to market since it was the closest one to where I lived. It's not a giant super market, but they always had a good selection of things ranging from basics to more gourmet foods, breads, and produce. It's really convenient and had a nice South End neighborhood feel.

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
The yuppie grocery store - I feel like I need a small dog, Coach bag, and father issues to shop here. Foodie's has a decent, yet small selection, of goods. The food is fresh but the prices are higher than the local Shaws or Stop&Shop. The price you pay for quality and location. I wouldn't make my weekly food shopping here - but I would definitely stop by if I needed something last minute. Oh, and they sell beer and wine. I'm probably in that aisle if you're looking for me ;(

Tiffany B.

Yelp
I'm lucky enough to be close to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, an Asian grocery store, Food Emporium, that other market with numbers in it, Shaws, & Foodie's, but the moment I walk out of Foodie's, I regret not adventuring to Trader Joe's. Everyone is right: this place is really expensive, but not as expensive as WF. Their items seem to shift every single time I come back. Matzo ball meal is never there even though they have it listed as an item on the shelf, the Farfel version of the meal got moved elsewhere, the almond/coconut milk got moved, juices, things just keep moving & it's irritating. The cheese is really pricey & I spent a stupid amount of time trying to find peanut butter (why is it not with the spreads?). It's really not that difficult to find, I might've had a massive brain fart. This place is kind of a mess in the sense that they keep moving things so where I thought some specialty item was (where's my orange juice from that brand that donates its profits to charities??), it is no longer there. So the disappointment is purely with the staff. I should start filling those cards out, but I don't think they give me enough lines to explain how unamused I am with their zombie-like staff. Every single time I've been here, I've not once encountered a cashier with a smile on their face. I've been asked twice how I'm doing & other times, I'm just greeted with "hi." Never asked about if I had difficulty finding anything or if I got everything that I needed, something every single grocery store makes their cashiers ask. I've had a better customer service experience at Asian grocery stores & you know they ain't about asking you questions/being nice to you unless it's a Japanese one. I feel so naive every time I walk into Foodie's. "Gonna go to the grocery store, get some groceries, la la la la la la" *gets groceries la la la la la* *encounters cashiers* *walks home* "Why the f@#$ did I go to that grocery store instead of TJ's?! How dare they make ME feel awkward when THEY'RE awkward for not talking or looking me in the eye?! NEVER AGAIN." That's my experience every time. Thank you, Foodie's, for hiring people who go through the motions of doing their job, but don't even talk to you. Last time, this guy didn't even tell me that the machine was ready for me to swipe my card through or that everything was all set to go. He just nodded. I'm sorry, are you mute? No, I know you're not mute because you asked me how I was doing unenthusiastically. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CASHIERS?! I think the selection of things is great here, I really do, but the cashiers man...they really kill the market's vibe. If I had to answer those survey questions, my answer would be "no" every time & on a 1-10 scale from how poor to great the quality of service I received, it's a 3.

Steph P.

Yelp
I work about 3 blocks from Foodie's which makes me very, very lucky. I take the T and always pack my lunch, so Foodie's makes my life easy. A couple times a week I go over and stock up on things like fruit, veggies, lunch meat, cheese and pop to make it through the work week, thus saving me the burden of carrying a lunch on the T. For those who say Foodie's is expensive, let me give you some numbers. Last week I went to Foodie's in the morning for work food, then stopped at Shaw's on the way home for food at home. Here is my comparison (none of the items at Foodie's were on sale, this was reg. price). Avocado Shaw's: $1.99 Foodies: $1.79 Cherries Shaw's: $6.99/lb Foodies: $4.99/lb Grape Tomatoes Shaw's: $4.99/pint Foodies: $3.99/pint Boar's Head Ham Shaw's: $8.99/lb Foodies: $6.99/lb Now, don't start talking about Market Basket. I know it is cheaper, but it is for sure hit or miss on produce. Not to mention out of the way for most commuters. Foodie's is convenient and carries a very wide variety of items including frozen foods, pop, produce, deli, cheese, salad bar, breads and crackers, dog food, yogurt, milk, and on and on. The only thing that could make Foodie's better is a friendlier staff, although I wouldn't call them rude.

Melissa C.

Yelp
Echoing the other South Enders who have written about Foodie's, I went here purely out of convenience... usually about once a week for little odds and ends. But after my last experience, I don't plan on going back. Yes, Foodie's is overpriced. I was willing to deal with that. Yes, Foodie's caters to those seeking organic flax seed oil for their daily protein shake as well as those with food stamps. I think that's part of the appeal. However, rudeness on the part of employees and poor customer service is something I'm unwilling to put up with at any establishment. Grocery store or otherwise. The last time I went to Foodie's, the cashier was rude and the bagger was worse. I'm neurotic, and already have guilt about someone else bagging my groceries, but when the bagger refused to put my food in the reusable bag I brought, I was shocked. She full-on refused to use my bag, and instead, threw (yes, threw) my food into plastic bags. So Foodie's has been dropped from my weekly routine -- just like that booty call buddy that you became accustomed to calling at 2 a.m. because he/she's convenient, but then suddenly failed to, er, perform.

Kirs P.

Yelp
Foodie's is awesome. It'd get five stars, but sometimes when you walk in the place smells like kitty litter. No, I'm not joking- kitty litter, slightly used. It's not great when the first thing you see in the store is the produce section. But, even despite the smell, Foodie's is a great little store to pick up the odd spice, sauce-in-a-can, and emergency pie crust (like I did last night). Other good things about Foodie's: - they stock the Greek yogurt my husband loves - they have nice pre-made meal stuff at the deli counter - although the produce sometimes isn't the greatest they often carry weird and strange things, like fiddleheads - the cheese section is halfway decent - they have a very large collection of vinegars and oils - they don't carry fish because Morse Fish Co is next door- I like local businesses that support other local businesses - and they have the best stuff to impulse buy at the checkout lanes. Example: I bought these wicked cool green tea, delicate pear mints last night- they are surprisingly yummy! So, in conclusion: No, I don't do my everyday shopping there, but it's good for the odd forgotten item or when you just don't feel like eating what's in your fridge.

Michael J.

Yelp
5 stars for convenience - it's close to where I live 4 stars for selection - they have the staples, some unique stuff, but are missing some brands I'd like to see 3 stars for hours - sometimes I need something early morning, or later at night, but it's not going to happen here 2 stars for prices - it's a small grocer in a city, so they get a little bit of pass on pricing, but it's still very expensive 1 star for customer service - I always feel like I am keeping the check out people from socializing with each other; they never say hi, thank you, have an expression, or recognize that you're there when checking you out, which is just a little uncomfortable; with the exception of the security guards who are always really nice Average is a 3. It does the job, but nothing special.

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
Its decent for a neighborhood grocery store. I would never recommend doing the bulk on your shopping here due to the prices. Very expensive. It can be hit or miss if you want something quick at the salad bar. It also closes very early, so if you expect something last minute after 7:00pm or so, think again. They have some muffins to go which are usually good. The sandwiches, not so much and clearly they're not really bought a whole lot. Its not worth it for the quality or price. The fruit and vegetables here are decent, just very expensive. The aisles are packed with items, and there is really no space left empty. Foodies is not bad if you not a quick in and out place, it can be crowded at times and the cash register belts are very small compared to other grocery stores. Overall, its okay but if I never went to Foodies again I don't think I'd miss it.

Jessica F.

Yelp
I'm with Judith! For everyone complaining about prices, go shop somewhere else. You are paying for convenience, so unless you have been living under a rock, you should expect that prices are higher. Also, not being part of the megachains like Shaw's or Stop & Shop prevents Foodie's from pricing things like Cheerios or Jif peanut butter or Bounty paper towels as low. Foodie's has a great produce selection, good prepared foods, their butcher staff is helpful and friendly and you can always find an interesting assortment of cheese to try. If you are looking to stock up on staples, Foodie's is not your place. But, if you are looking for fresh ingredients, with reliable availability and a convenient location, Foodie's is a great stop. And as for "everything that's wrong with the South End", why do you live here? I've been a Foodie's customer for almost 10 years and I think it's a great part of the South End.

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
EAT THEIR ROTISSERIE CHICKEN!!!!!! Yes, all caps means I am yelping this from the roof top. Their rotisserie chicken lit-er-al-ly falls off the bone with all it's juicy and perfectly seasoned goodness. Soooooo delicious. And I love how they offer it as a half chicken for those of us only buying for one. As a grocery, they're a little low on selection, but that's precisely why it's an urban market. They offer what's necessary, the food you just have to have when you don't have enough time to venture to Shaw's or Stop and Shop. So, please don't compare Foodie's to the big guys. This place is wonderful just the way it is.

Beth E.

Yelp
Hmm, Foodie's. It's not really the place to do all your shopping. I work around the corner, so I find myself in here often. Sandwiches: OK. Prepared foods: Pretty good. Salad Bar: Good. Olive Rolls: Yum. I'm happier since they put in that salad bar, that's usually my reason for heading to Foodie's these days. And salad with those olive rolls. Mmm.

Miriam A.

Yelp
Beggers can't be choosers. This is the only supermarket in the South End so our neighborhood isn't left with much of a choice. They have great selections here from the deli, yummy rotissiere chicken and your basic grocery list items. However on multiple occasions, I have purchased expired products without my knowing it. Once I bought expired yogurt and tabouli salad. Yuck! For crying out loud take your expired food off the shelves! No one really checks that anymore and when I get home and find rotten food in my grocery bag I'm too grossed out to return the product and make a fuss about it. I'm desperately awaiting the opening of Whole Foods in the South End. Hopefully, the prices and selections at Foodies would improve with a major competitor in the vicinity.

Abby R.

Yelp
I can't speak to Foodie's as a grocery store, but as a lunch spot, it's a totally solid and cheap choice. They have an extensive pay-by-weight salad bar with both ready-made salads and plenty of ingredients to make your own, as well as several options of pasta, potato or vegetable salad. Usually when I get a salad from here it comes to under $4 which you can't beat in the South End. They also have a Boar's Head deli with nice folks who will whip you up a huge sandwich in no time for about $6. Seriously, these sandwiches are beast. That's not to say I haven't eaten one in one sitting before, but I'm a monster. These sandwiches dwarf the sizeable sandwiches found at the Buttery, Flour or Formaggio, and cost less than most of them too. They also have hot food available that looks great for lunch or to bring home for a ready-to-eat dinner. I've seen beef stew, steak tips, fried chicken, burritos, meatloaf, and it all looks good. I like it as a quick place to grab lunch and bring it back to the office. Looks like they have a decent selection of groceries too for being a small store in the city.

Alex R.

Yelp
Foodie's is the kind of place that your girl calls you and says "Hey, will you stop by Foodie's on the way home and pick something up for dinner?" and you say "Sure," and then you realize you're a total yuppie. You're gonna pay like 25% more just because you're too lazy to drive five minutes to the Stop & Shop. (Also because it would take you twenty minutes to find a parking space when you got back from Stop & Shop.) Fortunately, I'm comfortable with my yuppiness. (More or less.) If it's not on your way home from work you have no business being there, but for those of us who live in the South End it's invaluable. There's a good deli and produce department and the checkout lady might flirt with you. Plus someone's usually tied their dog up outside so you can stop and play with it for a couple minutes before they come out and give you a suspicious look.

Yelp
I wish I made about 15-20K more per year than I did. If that were the case, I would simply do all of my grocery shopping here, without question. Their selections of fresh meats, seasonal produce, specialty foods, and good quality staples are really everything anyone needs to cook for 1 or a dinner party full of guests. They stock wonderful fair trade coffees, exotic crackers, a huge selection of cheeses, lovely wines that are often priced reasonably, and in general, it's a wonderful neighborhood market. Like I said, though - it's an expensive place to shop regularly, and the presence of all those specialty items means the prices on the staples rises a bit. That's one complaint. The only other one is that unless you're walking, it's sometimes very difficult to shop here - there's almost never any parking available nearby. I get around this by keeping ample storage units on my motorcycle, and parking in the narrow legal slot between the "no parking anytime" and the "commercial vehicles only" sections which no car short of a Smart could fit in. But forget about driving the wagon down here and just popping it onto a meter nearby with any degree of certainty. But you know what? Next time I want a really great chicken breast and a nice head of broccoli for dinner, I know where I'm going.

Yelp
Currently the only option in the South End; patiently waiting for the Whole Foods to open winter 2014 on Harrison Ave. Their selection is pretty weak and their staff are not really that friendly either. I def. try to avoid this place as best I can however it is currently the only option in the South End :/ Also, INSANELY OVERPRICED.

Yelp
I started working in the area back in the summer and this has become my favorite market. Full of fresh produce and conveniently located it has been such a treasure to me. Prices can be a little up there but I've never been disappointed. They also have a "sale" basket in one of the aisles and you can find some great things in there for 50% off.

Yelp
Foodies is a small, kinda-gourmet market that tries to fit in with Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Almost everything is overpriced but they are convenient as they carry all of the essentials. Their specials run for two weeks, so refer to the circular for some deals. Butcher corner - has a decent selection, if you are willing to pay for it. No seafood, so go to the next door fish market. If you want a better cheese selection, go a few blocks away to Formaggio (one of the best cheese shops I have ever seen.) Service can be hit or miss. Completely depends on who is working.

Yelp
Hmm, I sense a common theme here. Definitely not a place to pick up a $1 jar of peanut butter. But, I still love Foodies. It's right near where I work, has an awesome supply of fresh fruits and vegetables, carries Clear Flour and Sel de la Terre bread, and has delicious $5 salads that last me 3 days. Their pre-packaged sandwiches and salads are perfect for the grab-and-go crowd. Plus, their cheese selection is AWESOME for such a small market.

Yelp
When I was a kid, my Mom shopped at the local IGA and it was small, intimate and people knew your name IGA is a recent memory, but the torch seems to have been past to Foodies. It is not Shaw's, but it is better in quality than Whole Foods...Grapes are outstanding, so are the prepared foods Limited selection, very good quality

Yelp
Surprisingly, this food market is an excellent place to go to for lunch. They offer something different every day as well as a menu of made-to-order sandwiches at their deli. The salad bar is usually well-stocked, although they have their waxy-lettuce days toward the middle of the week. Their macaroni and cheese is usually wonderful, thick and hot... though it has it's milky, flimsy days. As for the store itself, it's like a limb of Whole Foods. If they have it, they have at least 20 different versions of it. If they don't have it, they just don't have it. They have most of the common kitchen and household staples and I wouldn't except more from a store of this size. The sales aren't that great, I don't even know if they have real sales but I never walk away feeling like I found a bargain.

Yelp
Very impressive! For it's size, this Foodie's is real nice. I especially like how clean the store is. Every time I have been here, it is very messy. Also, the way the aisles have been designed and the sections for each department, it is so easy to navigate your way around the store. I have friends who live in the area. So I invariably stop here to pick up stuff on the way to their place. More often than not, I find the basic staples that i am looking for. Although slightly on the expensive side, they do carry some specialty products that you may not find anywhere else but at the Foodies only. I once got their brand of Cayenne pepper and boy it is Hot! Now I can't switch to any other kind. Also, they have a small stand for greeting cards with very unique cards that are hard to find even at the Hallmark store. What more can you ask for? Finally the staff. I have always found the staff to be extremely helpful. I have invariably gone here on weekends and found the place to be quite busy. But the staff keeps the lines moving and manage the operations very effectively. Great shopping experience in South end right on Washington Street.

Yelp
Good local market that sells both organic produce/specialty items and your basics. I appreciate the free coffee and friendly staff. My only criticism- Fish selection is lacking... probably because there is a fish store a few storefronts down the street, but I would still appreciate some more fresh fish options. Random tips-- 1- Most inexpensive hummus I've ever found- Ceder's Hummus $1.75 for any flavor, including regular. This is the price all the time, not a special. Crazy! 2- If the chimichurri steak tips are in the prepared food counter, try them!! They are amazing!

Yelp
Ahhh Foodie's, or Foodaze as I like to call it. I can't live with or without you. Literally because I live and work within a 5 block radius from you. Sometimes you give me good pasta, other times you give me paralyzing anxiety attacks. Anyway, the store is convenient to the local folk like me. I would never go out of my way to shop here though. That's like going to the CVS in Government Center just for toilet paper and other unmentionables. The staff is nice for the most part. I'm kind of a diva at cash registers sometimes anyway so I appreciate the no greeting or talking factor from their employees, except Iris (hay girl!). The deli is pretty swell. I usually get my lunch here on a daily basis for a decent price. The only thing that grinds my gears are other shoppers. I'm talking to you, baby mamas, with the strollers and crying kids inside and the dogs waiting for you outside. I'll give you a tip, don't block the aisle with your hummer-sized baby stroller. Other people need to get their bottle of white too!

Yelp
The pros: - They have decent produce for a small store. - They have a good wine selection. - It is in a fairly convenient location. The cons: - They are often out of things, especially in the butcher section. Ground pork? They don't carry it. Craving NY strip steaks on a warm day? Get there early, because there was only one left when I went (happened multiple times). Need milk that doesn't expire in 2 days? You have to go somewhere else. - The employees. A lot of them are fairly rude and don't seem to want to be at work. I don't expect superior customer service everywhere I go, but I do expect people to at least be pleasant. If I didn't know any better, I would think some of them are mute. Often times the first thing they would say to me is a mumbled response after I told them to have a nice day as I left. - It's expensive. But I get it. Small market, prime real estate probably high rent. That's just the way it is.
