It has all the essentials of a grocery store. Decent selection of food and drinks. The store doesn't have much selection for ready made food or a deli. But does have a lot of fun snacks and candies.

Meat department!!! No No No! Health ⚠️! Do not buy meat here you will be sick! Working on a complaint. There’s been a water problem on the floors and now there is probably mold! Please patrons do not not buy the meat here! The employees should be sent home with pay due to the unsanitary conditions at this store. What is management actually doing!?? There are youngsters working here in this rut probably getting paid way below what they’re actually doing it’s absolutely ridiculous. I’ve called and been put on hold everyday this week with no response from a “manager” on why the meat department is even open still? Why is there mold in the produce section? I’ve seen rats around the store at night— and thought maybe the food trucks that park at night are the reason but no, I believe they’re around the store. Didn’t this happen at Whole Foods? not to mention there are lots of homeless hanging around the front here. Just go to Safeway up the street for yours and your families safety!!

Always come here to get the deals. The $25 meat package. The 3 cases of water bottle case is 35 per case at 3.99 each and the toilet paper get 2 6pack at $2.99 each. These the best deals out there. We also get 3 pack of otter pos 3 for $5. You can't beat them.

We were shopping at the Moorpark/ Parkmoor store last week , and my kid accidentally drove his cart into some stacked up wine bottles , and they fell . A lot of them, cascading down . He was a little afraid . By the time we went over to the cashier to talk what happened , they had already started cleaning up , and the cashiers response was very sweet, he said not to worry about it , we saw everything in the overhead screens , and have started taking care of it . I asked to pay for damages , and he said it's ok , we'll take care of it . Foodmax has made a life long customer in me and my son ! Thankyou food max for your excellent service !

Google
I haven't visited this place in about maybe 20 years. The isles were very clean and organized. Came here to buy my shampoo and conditioner, but they didn't have the family size. So I bought 3 gallons of ice cream instead.

This shop closes at 11pm incorrect timing wasted my time and effort to drive down here

Google
Took my friend to get a few things. When we approached the check out area. There were signs stating they can only accept cash or credit/debit? We waited a couple minutes and same cashier told us to go to 3 that register was accepting my friend's form a payment.

Google
They need to change or deep clean the produce misting system. This was today 3/18/24, and as you can see that is mold! Every single part of the produce misting system was like this. The rest of the store was neat and clean with lots of stock.

Yelp
Rest In Paradise to the hero who was servicing all of us in the neighborhood. I have been going to this foodmax for years and the majority of the employees are helpful and kind. My mother brought me and my siblings to this location as children and growing up and I continue to do so as an adult. I thank every single employee for their service. Love you guys.

Yelp
I made a mistake of buying meat from FoodMaxx and paid the price the following day. The chicken section had a bad smell of rotten meat and tbh some of the chicken with off brand had already changed color. I should have tossed the chicken upon opening the packaging since the chicken thighs had foul smell. They looked good and the brand "Foster Farmed" made me think that they'll be ok. Might shop here in future for dry ingredients only.

Yelp
They've got six cashier stations. But why is it every time I come here only one fucking cashier is open? With a big ass long, long, long, long line??

Bryan C.

Yelp
not sure what I need to think about it, from beginning on the parking lot full of people trying to open your car door to the very rude rep in the front shop. we definitely not coming back there!

George B.

Yelp
Did they change the management? What I am writing is the impression of the last three weeks. Vegetable section: carrots big and old - were they to feed animals? Did you get them cheaper? In the corner a few small carrots but already slimy. Parsnip, big and old. Parsley - who makes these small bunches of parsley leaves? They are sometimes so big and sometimes so small or the rubber or wire does not keep leaves together. Three weeks ago I saw leaking freezers, dropped wet towels. Food is getting more and more expensive. The quality is getting lower and lower.

Larissa G.

Yelp
Horrible customer service here, specially by the lady at self checkout with curly hair. My mom visited this foodmax on Saturday 1/25/25 and the lady helping at self checkout left my mom standing with all her stuff at the register. The machine kept alarming her that something was not getting scanned but as soon as that happened all of the registers were also going off. Instead of helping her, she threw her stuff and told her that she wasn't going to help her scan her things. She even tried getting in my mom's face like she wanted to hit her. If you are frustrated with your job, then don't work there, this is unacceptable and will be contacting upper management for this case.

Yelp
To me, most of FoodMaxx is quite similar. I usually visit the one on Tully Road in San Jose. I have images of various meats stored on my iPhone to compare prices, creating a sort of adventure for myself. I've accumulated so many pictures that I've started posting them as Flickr Collections, receiving a variety of responses on Facebook. When it comes to cooking chicken and beef and using canned or raw vegetables, FoodMaxx is my go-to place. The quality of meat doesn't seem significantly different from Safeway's, despite their high beef prices. They also offer common fruits, though not as exotic as those found in Asian markets--only the common ones like Aggplants or Papayas. I find the Olive Oil prices to be quite reasonable at Foodmaxx. Luckily, the store's proximity to my house makes it convenient, and the overall shopping experience is somewhat similar to a faster version of Costco.

Yelp
ffff the customer service especially from this this guy his name is derek o he really needs to be retraining or find a different job owner where r u???????

Brenda E.

Yelp
Great prices. Always clean and cashiers very nice. Food fresh the meat prices fantastic!

Ursula L.

Yelp
Check the food before you buy! Many things on the shelves are expired, you can see many items moldy in the produce area as well as some packaged items. I was hocked to see how much food was bad but still sitting on the shelves to sell. There's always a huge line with maybe one or two registers open. The self check out workers are rude and unhelpful.

Bobbi Vegas S.

Yelp
Often long lines with only one checkout person, buying ice cream on a warm day might be a mistake. Often you need to chase down your own cart in the parking lot, they need a regular cadence on cart runs . Large store, lots of items, sometimes good prices, check Walmart for items you frequently get against there prices, 30-40% of the time there are significantly less at Walmart. Store is maintained at a B+ level. Open late is a plus.
google avatar

Annette C.

Yelp
Peter the checker provided the absolute best customer service yesterday. Lines were long but he gave 100% to each and every customer being friendly and interactive in English and Spanish. All his customers left with a smile on their face, including me. Thank you Peter, you are a rockstar!!'

Yelp
Foodmaxx ... more like food mediocre !!!! Don't get me wrong this foodmaxx is great but let's not get confused all these Canadian overstock hoods have the taste of cardboard and the side of small af. It may be that it's free from pesticides or something but ... never in my life have I seen a avacados so small or had chicken that tasted so bad. Regardless I hope my 77 dollar donation helps turns around this place. Also I noticed the prices are higher then Walmart... so yeah although it's in a convenient location ima have to pass dis place up :( Oh also. Clean the carts ma dudes ! Wtf.

Yelp
I absolutely Love this place Staff always help. The lines can be long nutz the Staff make sure no matter what to attend to you as fast and efficient as they can. Kudos to Management and All Staff All Departments. y'all doing a Awesome Job keep it up

Yelp
This is one of the largest and cleanest FoodMaxx locations that I have been to in a while. I love that they have a huge selection of grocery items for sale and run specials regularly, saving you a decent amount of money. Some items should be purchased elsewhere as you will save more money, but when it comes to bulk meat purchases, they have great deals on their box specials.

Yelp
HORRIBLE customer service. The cashier named Maggie was so disrespectful. I have never experienced such inconsiderate behavior. This was little my first and last time at this store. The store in general looked fully stocked and with good prices. However, Maggie refused to ring up my TWO items although I had waited in line for 15 mins and was the last one in line because it was 8:01pm. Maggie was so rude she left me standing there with my 2 items. So humiliating, I will never come here again.

Yelp
FoodMaxx has a huge produce department. The inside is like a mini Costco. they have good prices on bulk chicken. as well as Tri-tip. $2.99 a pound for Tri-tip. we opted however not to buy the Tri-tip as it had lots of fat on it and in it...I would much rather spend $5.99 per pound at Nobhill and get a quality cut from the butcher dept. we did however load up on veggies. whole beets with stalks on them, yams, Red onions, Romaine Lettuce, Carrots and grapes, just to name a few. like all big super markets...you got to know your prices..there are great deals here and some not so great. over all its a good place to shop and would definitely recommend shopping here.

Yelp
Cheap veggies and fruit. Good green bananas. Got sick on the milk from here. Sketchy people in and out of the store

Yelp
This store is very nice good and convenient sadly management dont care for good service. I asked a question to staff on duty Nancy and her respond was not nice.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow I was so upset at myself for coming here to save a few dollars instead of going to my local Lucky's. The whole experience was just kinda gross tbh. Parked and immediately regretted my decision. This parking lot was full of people walking around aimlessly. Made me feel like they were gonna walk up and try to snatch my purse of something. They weren't even entering the store! I was here to be in and out, just grab some vegetables and cans of refried beans/tomato sauce to make tostadas for tonight's dinner. The aisle were packed with people who don't know what common courtesy is. Blocked the entire aisles with no care in the world somebody is behind them. There were creepy dudes staring at all the women (including me) and just made me sooo uncomfortable. I One plus is the checkout person I had was quick and friendly. Due to the incredibly awkward and frustrating experience at this location I would never come back.

Yelp
I'd like to make a shoutout to James the key cashier for constantly providing stellar customer service. He is a wonderful person and no matter what day or time it is he is ALWAYS nice and courteous. James makes this store a better place and he is a great cashier. I love this FoodMaxx. They have a lot of items and it's a very spacious place. I come here at least twice a week for personal and business needs. This can be a very competitive area for grocery stores but people like James make coming here more than worth it along with the prices and item selection and organization!

Yelp
Ive been coming to this store for years now and they have the best deals which is why i continue to come. There is however an issue that has happened a few times now and they dont seem to care about. I once bought 6 bottle of apple juice and by the time i got home i realized they had all EXPIRED over a month ago! This was partially my fault for not checking but still this should be something that shouldn't be on the shelf. A while before that i bought salmon and it was also bad. i am a bit smarter now and buy all my meats and veggies else where. Today however i was gonna buy some iced coffee and had picked out 10 bottles and realized they were ALL EXPIRED. So i told and employee and all he said was that thats a vendor that takes care of it and he left them. This was very disappointing! I hope management sees this and takes care of this.

Yelp
You get what you pay for. I've never been to a FoodMaxx and wanted to check it out because I'm on this crazy financial plan because I have a few vacations in mind for this year. I already felt a bad vibe right when I walked in but there was traffic on HWY 17 so I ignored my intuition. Stupid me. - produce is cheap but Grocery Outlet is cheaper - they do not carry ground lamb and ground bison like Grocery Outlet - their organic fruits are expensive compared to Trader Joe's - they have Shirataki noodles for under $1.50 - they have a small organic selection - their bulk snack chips cost more than Grocery Outlet - they have TONS of cheese - a small selection of Mexican baked goods I spent a total of $26. I'm still below budget. My max is $40 per week. It's their selections that do not match my nutrition needs (bison and lamb) and I personally did not care for the customers inside that building tonight. I cannot fault that on this grocery store but their customer service was surely questionable except for one guy that actually tried to speed things along. No thanks to the asshole that tried to buy cases of beer w/ a card that keeps getting declined and for the kids running around and being extremely annoying. My first and last time here tonight.

Michael L.

Yelp
Absolutely shocked regarding how incredibly GROSS the food was! Although the Ice water was good.
google avatar

Yelp
An okay grocery store, nothing special or bad about it. Prices are higher than Target and of course Costco. Selection is decent and quality alright. Layout is spacious. Staff reasonably friendly. Ample parking
google avatar

Jo R.

Yelp
Good prices, wide isles. Helpful staff. Don't tolerate threatening anti-maskers like Safeway does
google avatar

Jesus S.

Yelp
My favorite place to get groceries. It even beats out Trader Joe's. Amazing prizes on everything. You will find every type of food that you need here. Often they have my favorite protein bars (Gatorade chocolate chip) available and I absolute love it and they are a dollar or 79 cents! Just an amazing spot to save money and they truly have everything!

Elaina M.

Yelp
I would like to thank Julian Cruz for his help in produce today..He went and grabbed me a cart when I had picked up way more than I could carry. He is kind, helpful and hardworking.Thank you Julian
google avatar

Rudy J R.

Yelp
Have you ever had one of those incredible shopping experiences? Well, I did today as I went - for the first time - to purchase some groceries at this FoodMaxx. As I started to shop in the produce area, several employees said hello and that rarely happens as many work hard to re-stock the fruits and vegetables. Then, the department manager, Jorge, helped me find some mint leaves as I was having trouble locating it. Walking throughout the other areas, even the customers were mindful of social distance during the Covid-19 pandemic. Once I was at checkout, the cashier (John) was extremely friendly and another employee helped me take my groceries to the car (I didn't even ask, although I am no longer young and the assistance was gratifying). The store manager deserves a lot of credit for his/her leadership!

Yelp
This store can be a hit or miss. It can be really stock and clean to be dirty. This location gets very busy so either come super early otherwise you will be waiting in line forever. They do had a guy that's been there forever that has really great customer service. Since we go there all the time , it's nice that he knows us and ask how we are doing. The price is very reasonable which is what I love about this store.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
We go to FoodMaxx often. It's our number one grocery store. They used to print out coupons with our purchase, but that has stopped recently. The selection is decent. We are able to find the things we are looking to buy. It's close to home and right next to our gym, so it's conveniently located. I feel like it could be cleaner on the inside. And there are sometimes people in the parking lot trying to approach all the people leaving the store. I don't like that and it would probably make women feel very uncomfortable. But I like the store.

Tone M.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place a 0 star rating. The clerk stole my wallet. The store was dirty and produce spoiled. Sad store
google avatar

Theo P.

Yelp
This store is a disaster. The self checkout registers are never open. I run into the store because it is on my way home to get 3 items. The place was not crowded at all. They had 3 open registers and there were 12 people deep in each line. I left my items on a closed register and walked out. Will never give them my business again the do not deserve my money. If I could give them no stars I would give them no stars in this review. By the way the lines are like this 24 hours a day. Everyone please don't shop there.
google avatar

Arie R.

Yelp
Not in the greatest area so make sure you lock your car and no valuables are visible. The prices are like most foodmaxx, cheap and affordable. Their lines get really long starting around 3pm but checkout usually goes pretty fast. The cashiers have all been very nice. The store itself is usually clean and well stocked. I know this is slightly off topic, but just outside this foodmaxx are people who sell tamales and a Mexican drink called champarado which tastes like a drinkable churro! Both sellers customer service is so sweet are tamales/drinks super good and super cheap too!
google avatar

Ron L.

Yelp
Nice store if you can get there. Awfully inconvenient to drive there from I-280 north. But once you get there, you find that you may not need to go anywhere else. I've been to many Food Maxxes, and this one is slightly different. Most buildings are very long, this one is deep and not as long. It's still filled with all your food needs and wants, laid out nicely, easy to get around inside, at extremely competitive prices. It's in a crappy neighborhood, so I'm sure the residents appreciate the low prices. I know I do. The big negative about this Food Maxx not being very wide: fewer checkout lanes. Not so good if you're there on the afternoon before Thanksgiving . . . knocked down by one star. And Flor D shouted "Amen!" In my opinion, it's worth driving a few miles to go to Food Maxx, even if the drive is a little tough. You trade convenience for selection and extra money in your account. Back home, we easily do more than half of our food buying at Food Maxx. Hopefully you will too.
google avatar

Flor D.

Yelp
Oh NO! If you could hear me, it's an attitude filled, slightly disappointed OH NO! 30 minute wait to just check out. Take it to the MAXX, NOT. This place could really work, IF they had more checkers. Ever heard of an express lane? I doubt they realize OR care how much business walks out the door from sheer frustration. Regardless of your pick of time during the day, this grocery store will always be jam packed. It's almost like this store attracts people who have not shopped in a month, and more than likely you will be stuck behind that person in line. I had to grab some canned pumpkin, yogurt, and v8's. It took forever. After 30 minutes of waiting, i smiled at the checker and asked her to give me the phone. I wanted to broadcast my voice to all the people who were waiting and tell them to hang in there! She laughed. I felt stupid for waiting, as I won't get those 30 minutes of my life back. On the flip side, they sell pan dulce, pinatas, toys, liquor, ethnic foods, and things that make you go hmmm. it's an experience, and I think the store should be named El SLOW FOOD MAXX.
google avatar

Malley D.

Yelp
Where has this place been all my life?? Just moved to this area and this is now my go-to before Trader Joe's. Their prices are the bomb and they have great selection. They sell Tajin in the big bottles, have about 4 types of queso fresco, and also carry good produce. I do wish they had a better selection of organics (not sure they have any organic produce, but they do have some organic meats) and sustainable cleaning products. However, can't beat their prices on big brand stuff!
google avatar

Donovan T.

Yelp
First things first, the 24 Hour Fitness next door isn't open 24 hours yet the FoodMaxx is! Haha, can't deny that convenience! However, during the weird hours in the morning is most likely the only time that this place is empty. I never knew a grocery store had peak times like the gym, but come in the afternoon after 3-4pm, on the weekend mornings, or before a hot day when everybody is trying to BBQ and be prepared to wait in line for who knows how long! Prices on produce and goods tend to be lower, but it's cheaper for a reason! And that's the lack of service. You kind of grab just whatever you need and go pay, but very rarely will you be in and out in a couple minutes. I grew up shopping at Food 4 Less, so FoodMaxx is nothing new to me but I can see some people not down for it! It's not uncommon for lines of 15+ with only 3-4 cashiers. Liquor is priced fairly, frozen food is dirt cheap, and the bakery has something interesting items! This is the spot if you want to throw a cheap generic BBQ with burgers and hot dogs. I been going here less since they opened up the Walmart in South San Jose, but will still come in here from time to time since it's next to my favorite 24!
google avatar

Yelp
It's funny how some people feel because a store is discount a customers can be insulted or treated low. WOW the money is the same at high priced stores and low price stores. Should our money define how we get treated as humans. Wow
google avatar

Vicky T.

Yelp
DANG COINSTAR YOU CHARGE HELLA In a quick fix, I was able to deposit my checks and take care of my coins...
google avatar

Cherie S.

Yelp
Come here for long lines, mediocre prices and tacky atmosphere (boxes everywhere). I came here to buy a few items after I went to the Post Office next door. I waited in the ridiculously long (and unmoving) line for ten minutes before I walked out. Hello? Apparently they've never heard of express lanes, self check out, or small shopping baskets. This is a grocery store to shop at only if you don't value your time. The minimal savings aren't worth it.
google avatar

Philip M.

Yelp
After my run in with the cashier that accused me of stealing I talked to her supervisor and he said he took care of the situation so that it won't happen again. She still hasn't apologized to me so if I see her in the store I always avoid her. This place has too many good deals to stop going in. I buy my wet dog food here and it's around half as much as what other places are charging. I also like getting bulk meat here for stews or just getting a large piece of meat to make my own cuts. The one bad thing that did happen last month was I bought one of the $1 yogurt drinks instead of the 78 cent ones and it had mold in it. I licked the top of the bottle and there was a big green gloop of mold right on top that I stuck my tongue right on. Luckily I had just bought it so I went inside and they let me replace it with a different one. It was just bad that I had the taste in my mouth for a while.

Yelp
Well where do I start off? I'm not a big fan of Foodmaxx, even though they are fairly cheap in comparison to other grocery stores. Their meat packages are always slimy and of poor quality. Certain meats like roasts are fine but as far as the porkchops, chicken, steak, and ribs are considered, I would be willing to pay a higher price else where. They are great for milk, veggies, eggs, cheese, juice, and desserts because they are relatively cheap in comparison to Safeway. SIDE NOTE: When I make cheesecake they have THE BEST price for Philadelphia cream cheese HANDS DOWN. Also their Danish Butter Cake is to DIE FOR, fattening yes, but amazing (cheap and great for party tray). Their staff are pretty friendly and helpful, but nothing about their service really stood out to me. Their lines are always long, yet I always see plenty of staff walking around or talking amongst each other. Also, if you take the time to look up at the ceiling, there is a large number of pigeons perched on the inside framing of the roof. This is VERY UNAPPEALING AND I AM ALMOST POSITIVE THAT THEY ARE IN CLEAR VIOLATION OF HEALTH AND SAFETY CODES. They are open 24 hours, great in a pinch, or on a budget, but 9 times out of 10 I would much rather go to Safeway. I primarily just go there to use their Chase ATM lol.

Yelp
I hate shopping here. I hate the check out lines, the dirt, the grimey screaming yelling children and their inconsiderate parents. I hate the constant panhandlers wearing white suits for Jesus. I hate the crappy parking lot that has huge puddles even though it may not have rained for months. So, one may ask, why do I ever come back? It's CHEAP! Really, food here is just less expensive. The meat selection is pretty good, although Costco is better, but I don't always need 22 lbs of pork shoulder. The vegetables and fruit are pretty good, although I have gotten some skanky potatoes. I avoid the self serve bins of stuff; I've seen lots of people stick their fingers in and I don't really want their H. Pylori and peptic ulcer disease. Their cultural offerings are fantastic. Great asian and hispanic sections; I love the pozole con pollo and go there for it. Now, how often do I shop at Food Maxx? Only when I run out of staples or I'm making food for a lot of people so I need to watch the budget. I truly hate going there. I'd rather pay more at Safeway to avoid Food Maxx but I'm too cheap to do that. If you go take hand sanitizer for use after touching the carts and everything else, and kick or trip the little running screaming brats if they get to close to you. They have evil in their eyes and venom in their fangs; get them before they get you.

Yelp
Shitty ass customer service, all the employees are rude af, but the veggie prices are the best in town- hence why they get the 2 star rating. They just stare at you while you bag your stuff and when you ask to help, which I've asked every single time. On employee was like, "na, this ain't Safeway. You gotta self check your own stuff here." like LITERALLY the words from an employee just now. But besides the run down hobo look, they have way more variety of veggies and are the lowest in the area. That's the only reason I come here, not because of the customer service

lizza m.

Yelp
I live right near a Safeway, but I got sick of paying their prices and being treated poorly by their employees. I now shop at Trader Joe's, Lucky's and FoodMaxx. Just depends where I am and what I need. FoodMaxx has great prices. I pay way less than I did at Safeway. (and actually Lucky). Their selection is not as good - but I don't care. And - I have to wait in a line most of the time - but I don't care. I am saving money. They checkers are usually friendly and efficient. I don't mind bagging my own groceries. I'm just standing their anyway! Yes - the neighborhood is "colorful" - and that's fine with me. I'm not fear-based, so nobody in the parking lot intimidates me. (Unlike other reviewers)
google avatar

R M.

Yelp
The price savings are meh at best. I started going here regularly but found that the Safeway nearby, wasn't that more expensive, and with a much better shopping experience. The price savings at Foodmaxx is highly overstated. I might save a few bucks overall but the bad shopping experience isn't worth that little difference. The last time I was there I waited 25 minutes in line to pay for my groceries. That was the last straw. Way too many of the carts are in terrible shape and the wheels don't roll right. They're covered with filth accumulated from all the times they're pushed to somebody's house/encampment and left with trash in them. The entire shopping plaza is to be avoided as well. My car was broken into next to Savers. Nothing taken. Just a "smash-and-prospect". The sidewalk in front of the whole row is disgusting, with vagrants and derelicts hanging out in front, arguing with their invisible friends. Reputable shopping centers typically pressure wash the crud off the sidewalks in front of their establishments and make sure the area is clean and well lit. Not here. The parking lot lighting is marginal at best. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Target or Costco for bulk items; Trader Joe's for the rest. The drive over to the Pruneyard is less than 3 miles but compared to this turd of a plaza it's like flying to Club Med.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this store. Foodmax generally has better deals than at other grocery stores, but I don't think there is that much savings as they advertise. One exception is the produce department. The produce department is huge and has better prices than what is found at most other grocery stores. But, I find that the fresh meat department is lacking. They don't carry a lot of quality meats and I find that most of the meat here is very fatty. Basic lean ground turkey is nowhere to be found in this store. The check out lines here are atrocious especially on weekends. If you can, do not buy alcohol here so you use the self check out. The self check out lines are usually a lot shorter than the normal lines. PS: If you use the rewards program at Lucky's, you can enter your phone number here and they count towards your Lucky's points. :)
