This time we decided to try Foong Lian Claypot Chicken Rice (丰年瓦煲美食馆) in KL, located right beside the famous stall that everyone talks about. Naturally, we were curious to see how it compares.
Unfortunately, I have to say that the one next door still packs more punch — the aroma, the char, and that smoky rice fragrance really stand out more. That said, Foong Lian’s version was still a good pot of claypot rice — the ingredients were fresh, the rice nicely cooked, and the sauce well-balanced, just not as memorable.
There weren’t many people when we visited, which made dining comfortable, and interestingly, this shop also holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition.
Overall, it’s a decent choice if you’re around the area, but if you’re after that truly fragrant, smoky claypot flavor, the neighbour next door still takes the crown.
