Inside Mike Bloomberg’s Food-Filled Campaign Events | Eater

"At an early-voting, 7 a.m. campaign event held at this downtown Winston-Salem coffee shop, attendees were met with an unusually lavish spread — quiches, smoked salmon with capers and chopped eggs, a fruit platter, cookies and assorted pastries — that surprised patrons and prompted social-media posts. The gathering took place in heavy morning rain and drew people who lingered after the stage appearances; several guests specifically praised the smoked salmon platter and said the generous food offering made them more receptive to the event." - Gary He

You’ll walk through an alleyway that is decorated with a literary mural on both sides. You’ll find this little gem is snuggled into a nook with two entry ways. One door is to a coffee shop that had the tastiest coffee flight and exceptional customer service. The coffee shop is industrially furnished and decorated with beautiful pieces of art accompanied by relaxed lighting. The second door farther to the left is for the bookstore. This bookstore gives books a million vibes but someone took the time to list bookmarks for each section, explaining the types of books you’re looking at. They work with the community schools, as well. I’m not usually one for a “city” environment but this spot is a treasure!

What a fun place! You can relax, work, or meet up with friends to enjoy some coffee or cocktails depending on the time of day. Very large indoor area with plenty of space, and a large outdoor area as well. No need to worry about finding room in here. Couches, chairs, little nooks out of the way, and even a large bookstore adjoining this unique spot. The best part, there is free public parking in the back. The sign for “private parking” is still up in the lot, but after asking inside, they confirmed that parking is free and the sign was never taken down. So if you go, ignore the sign and park all day for free in downtown Winston Salem. The coffee and tea were outstanding. The flight my wife had on this Valentine’s Day was superb. Each little taste had unique flavors with a lot of love put in. Thank you for the great service. We will definitely be back .

What a wonderful place! Great layout for 6 feet considerations. Offering a full menu and a full bar for fantastic cocktails. The staff was friendly and the beer selection wide from the Foothills brewery next door. Stop into the bookshop to peruse a wide variety of written genres! Fun for families, date night or solo adventuring!

I’m a big fan of this rare gem. It has its own free parking. The baristas are kind without being overly friendly. They make great suggestions and off both tasty coffee and a great spirits selection. It is rarely crowded and quiet.

Popped in bout 8p on a Monday night and was delighted to find live jazz music! Reasonably priced drinks and cool tunes, couldn’t ask for a better way to start the week. Arrive earlier to catch more of the tunes, it ended bout 8.30p.

Google
So glad we found this trifecta: bar, coffee shop, and bookstore (shared space with Bookmarks). Tons of seating inside in a huge space (spread out), one table with chairs outside. Several Foothills beers on tap and a full food menu (cooked at the adjacent Foothills brewery which has table service). Loved that I could do work while my family browsed the bookstore and played games. Highly recommend!

Google
Their coffee beans (which they roast regularly) are some of the best tasting in town 💫 Nice in the summertime because it’s a cool/dark/open respite from the sun/heat. Another cool feature is that it’s right next to the independent bookstore so you can grab your coffee and browse around the store for a bit. Big parking lot in the back! ❤️

Yelp
I decided to come to this coffee shop so I could get some work done here and try a new place! Pros: I loved that it was attached to a cute bookstore so you can buy a coffee/pastry and walk around and look around or vice versa- buy a book and sit at the coffee shop with it! It was not busy when I went and it was pretty quiet, which was nice environment to get some work done. It was clean and they had plenty of seating. Cons: The latte was slightly sweeter for my liking Would I come back? Yes and I think it would be fun to also try one of their cocktails too as it looked like they had a good bar selection too.

Yelp
What a great coffee/tea/bookstore! Friendly staff & nice selection of sweet treats - even got my own pot of tea. Perfect spot to meet up with friends or just have a quiet space to read and enjoy the very cool atmosphere.

Yelp
Service was ok. I ordered some hot drinks, but honestly some of the worst I have ever had. Seems like they were made in a hurry and not much care put into making them properly. I got a Chai Tea Latte. It tasted like they just put some powder and hot water together. My wife got a tea that tasted nothing like what she has ordered in the past. I felt rushed during my order as well. The ambiance was great, just needs a little work on the service side of things. Also no outside food or drinks were allowed. Maybe next time I will have a better experience.

Yelp
Footnote is a great little coffee shop and book store downtown. But many ppl don't know that there is an event space there as well..... I've been to business lunches, Christmas parties, team building events and multi course dinners there and every time has been a wonderful experience. There are two spaces so you can utilize one or both and they can be casual or upscale depending on the event because the rooms have that urban exposed brick old building vibe that can be a pretty neutral but co background to your event. My last time there was a multi course beer and brunch event hosted by Foothills next door (this is who you would connect with to rent the space and get catering options). Food was fun, beer local and great energy to the event.... Plan to go again next year. Check them out for coffee, books or an event you are planning.

Yelp
This is a really quiet little place to enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend on a weekday afternoon, or a cocktail in the evening. It seems pretty vacant during the daytime, which I appreciate as someone who likes to work at coffee shops. A full smattering of coffee-related options (I love a cappuccino) are available. Plus, they actually have a parking lot in downtown Winston, which is pretty amazing.

Yelp
Still loving all things footnotes a year later. My go to is the iced London fog and I can't recommend the blueberry lemon cookie more.

Yelp
Of primary importance, you should know Footnote has the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had, anywhere. No sliced deli corned beef here, they use big honking slabs of meat. It's so good. But more than that, the full Foothills menu is available at Footnote (they share a kitchen) as long as there's not an event going on that would block access and overly extend the staff. And the specials link too, like half price fish and chips Tuesdays (best fried fish I've had in the area too, including from seafood restaurants). And the Shanewich, whatever Chef Shane dreams up on a given day... Chef know better than I do what I want to eat most days. Today I wanted totchoes, which are nachos with a tater tot base. (I miss Dirty Fries' Winston location!) And here's the pro tip: they will swap out the cheddar stated in the menu for beer cheese if you ask. Footnote is a great neighbor for Bookmarks -- we're separated by only a glass wall, and you can bring your coffee or cocktail on in and browse and sip, or bring a beverage to an author event. Just be tidy about it, and please keep alcohol out of the kids' section.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere. Every beer was great. Plus the concept of my sister who does not drink enjoyed a great coffee flight. With today's designated driving situation it's great that the person who's picked to be thar person got to enjoy herself to. Would recommend footnotes to all my friends.

Yelp
Coffee, cocktails and a book store - what more could you want! Recently stopped by Footnote on a food tour and got the chance to try their homemade lemonade and cold foam vanilla latte. Their lemonade was slightly tart and not too sweet. I would absolutely go back and order this on a hot summer day. The fan favorite was the vanilla cold foam latte which we all devoured instantly! Can't wait to go back and grab a good book + coffee.

Yelp
My first time here!! I came to meet a photographer and decided to order a cortado. It's been a long time since I've had a great cortado. Nathan was super sweet and greeted me with a smile upon entering. When I asked if they were versed in cortados Nathan told me that one the very skilled baristas Nathan could make it best! Let me tell you!!. I know a great cortado when I get one. I ordered a cortado with oat milk. This baby was super silky, not too much milk froth and no bitters from the espresso. You can tell this came from a well roasted bean and poured by a skilled barista. No sweeteners needed. I definitely will come back for another cortado! The space was very large. Plenty of seating and nice natural light. Connected to the bookstore. They also have great outside seating. Love the vibe and the espresso.

Yelp
We've heard of beer flights, we've heard of wine flights, but coffee flights sounded like a myth to me. But here it was! As a coffee aficionado let me tell you I enjoyed ordering this coffee flight and sipping down each delicious latte so much!! Each was the perfect combination of creamy and sweet but with enough coffee to balance it all out. They also offer seasonal flights depending on the time of year. The service was great and they took good care in the presentation of their coffee flight too. The vibes were perfect for a coffeehouse. It does have a bar area where you can sit and where event are held later on, but for a morning coffeehouse, attached to a cute bookstore, I can't recommend this place enough

Yelp
My last review was 2018. The Covid protocol at my business has kept me away from the my downtown WS office. I am just now starting to get back. Covid has killed off some good places, especially the coffee shops. Two near my office are now gone. The closest place for me to get a cup of coffee is Footnotes, which is a couple of blocks away. I am grateful that Footnotes is still in business. I have visited Footnotes several times now after getting back into the office. It reminds me how cool this place is. Now, if my boss is reading this review, I have only enjoyed the coffee and lattes. I will come back after hours to get the cocktails and Foothills beer. Plus, I still have plenty of vodka in my office. Coffee, lattes, and espressos are good. I believe they roast their own beans. The sausage biscuits hit the spot. Now to be fair with my review, there are better places to get a biscuit, but these are decent. I haven't had the lunch sandwiches yet but I will. I have had the craft cocktails and draft foothills beer in the past. I love Foothills beer and they have large select on draft. Great place to come and get a drink. Note, Footnotes is hidden down a small alley right off 4th street. Just follow the signs.

Yelp
Stopped in for a coffee before a job interview and ended up coming back for a glass of wine afterwards! The service and atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. They have a selection of pastries and sandwiches as well as a full bar and various local beers on tap. You can sit inside or choose from one of the two patios. It's also conveniently connected to the cutest bookstore!

Yelp
We booked an event here for almost 100 people. I have to say the service is top notch, the food is good, and the ambiance is just perfect. The staff made everything so easy and our guests enjoyed everything. Will definitely be back when we're in town.

Yelp
I come here frequently because: A) it's a COFFEE shop B) it's directly next door to a BOOK store and C) it's very close to my husband's office so sometimes he can pop over and see me or I can get a parking lot kiss if I give him a heads up. Y'all may not participate in item "C" - that's just for me. I've had all manner of hot coffee and hot tea here and have always enjoyed my selections whether a seasonal offering or a longtime favorite. The baristas are helpful and friendly and it's a great place to sit a moment or meet a friend for a long chat. They do have some light fare and I *think* you can order from the Foothills brewery attached to Footnote (great menu!!). But I'm here for the sweets, I won't lie. The cookies are as big as your face and if you're dining in they'll warm them up for you. Ummm....yes, please! My kids love the chocolate chunk and I am a fan of their red velvet and lemon blueberry. When I have an extra minute, I'll pop next door and enjoy book heaven along with coffee heaven. Bonus - restrooms have always been clean! As a lady who drinks tons of water (and coffee) all day and subsequently pees ALL the time, I appreciate that.

Yelp
I've came to Footnotes twice this week. Once was to do work and the other was for a post dinner drink. When I came to do work it wasn't too busy so there were lots of tables to sit at. I had the coffee flight which was very good and a nice way to try multiple drinks and still get caffeine to powder through the day. I also enjoyed an apple oatmeal cookie (I think it also had caramel) which was super soft and delicious. It didn't even need to be warmed. I came again on a Saturday night and even though there was a private event the staff was super nice, paid attention, and made sure everyone had great service. The cocktails are a great price for a craft cocktail bar. The staff was accommodating when I switched the gin to vodka in my drink. I will definitely come back to do work and/or grab drinks.

Yelp
This is one of the best little kept secrets downtown Winston Salem, with its couches, outdoor seating, bookstore attached, bar/coffee shop, it's got so much appeal and just a cool hang out or meet for coffee or a drink. Nice little bar area, with beer and cocktails and wine, pretty nice list . They have food available too, snacks, and little sweet treats. On a Sunday afternoon when I was meeting a couple of friends out, this was just perfect. We sat at the high top table, my friends had a delicious cafe mocha, and a holiday chai, I got the dirty chai latte, a chai with a shot of espresso, oh they have every milk imaginable to man available too, so goat, cow, almond , hemp etc! Loved how my latte wasn't milky , as I don't prefer too much, but nice gingery spice and little frothy on top, so good. Also got the orange muffin, which they heated up, loved this too, nice citrusy moist cakey texture. Just something to go with a afternoon caffeine fix. Perfect compliment to the chai latte. Nice and spacious inside, they also have a private area to rent inside, which had a 50th anniversary party going on in full swing with a live band which made it kinda loud and hard to hear sometimes, and I do suggest they get something on the stool legs to stop the screeching noise every time they move! They also validate parking for the little area on 4th at the end of the block which is nice. I loved this little coffee shop come bar, the awesome Bookmarks store is attached for a browse too. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. A new little spot for me!

Yelp
Peppermint mocha 9/10 Butterscotch latte 9/10 Holiday flight deck 7/10 Atmosphere and service 10/10 Very cute coffee shop that is directly linked to a book store! There is plenty of seating and a hotspot to study and/or socialize. The interior is also very aesthetically pleasing. Peppermint mocha is one of the best I've tried! Deep chocolate flavor that doesn't drown out the peppermint, and also not too sweet. Butterscotch latte was also the perfect amount of light sweetness with a great deep burnt caramel flavor. Holiday flight deck is worth trying if you want to sample 4 of their holiday drinks (peppermint mocha, eggnog latte, chai latte, irish sweet cream cold brew) but the chair latte and irish sweet cream were both VERY watered down and not worth it. I would get the eggnog latte again. It would be more worth it if you could customize the holiday flight deck but the menu is set. Overall, the baristas are so very kind and attentive. Parking on the backside of the store has more spots than the front side. One downside is that they do not take apple pay.

Yelp
The first time I went here I loved it. The next time? Meh, meh and meh. I asked for a flavored latte made half breve (half half and half and half milk). The guy waiting on me seemed to be annoyed by me the minute I walked in. This is shocking to me because I am the friendliest, most polite person. I don't act like a jerk. Anyway, the latte was horrendous, the same guy was annoyed when I asked for the wifi password, and then when I was leaving, not a single "thank you" or anything. I will go back across the street and down a little to the coffee shop that employs developmentally disabled individuals. The cause is excellent and you feel welcome.

Yelp
INTRO: A cafe during the day, a hip bar at night. It's honestly the best of both worlds. Footnote Coffee & Cocktails has everything that you're searching for. There is a parking lot in the back that can accomodate more than 50 cars, so you won't ever have to worry about parking here, which is fairly rare for a coffee shop in downtown Winston-Salem. The venue itself has a chill, hipster atmosphere while also maintaining the studious vibe for people looking to buckle down and grind on their computers. There are multiple tables scattered throughout the cafe, although not every table has easily accessible outlets to charge electronic devices. There is a bookstore connected to Footnote, but I didn't have time to check them out. Footnote also hosts various events throughout the week, including local band performances and spoken word. Take a look at their social media accounts for more information! DRINK 1: Winter Coffee Flight ($15) - #1 Peppermint mocha, #2 egg nog latte, #3 sweet cream cold brew, #4 holiday chai. The peppermint mocha was the best one out of these four drinks. The rich, deep mocha flavor balanced perfectly with the refreshing, crisp peppermint flakes. Normally, the mocha has the potential to be overpowering, but Footnotes did a fantastic job of finding the perfect ratio. The whipped cream on top is something that should be added to all of the drinks of the flight, but unfortunately, it is solely dedicated to the peppermint mocha. Make sure to mix your drink because the peppermint mocha comes beautifully layered. The egg nog latte was surprisingly tasty and definitely more creamier than I anticipated. Even if you're not a fan of egg nog, I highly recommend trying this drink. The sweet cream cold brew tasted exactly how it sounds. Be sure to mix this drink thoroughly to evenly distribute the sweet cream in the cold brew or else you'll be wondering why the cold brew tastes bland. I wasn't a fan of the holiday chai at all. If you enjoy drinking watered down chai, then you'll like this drink. I was honestly debating whether I should've poured this down the sink or not. Overall, 7/10 DRINK 2: Liquor Coffee Cordial Flight ($18) - #1 Bailey's Irish cream, #2 amaretto di amor, #3 southern star bourbon cream, #4 frangelico hazelnut liqueur. The Bailey's Irish cream is exactly how you envision it. The rich, creamy flavor of the Bailey's blends perfectly with the coffee. It's basically boozy creamer when you think about it. I feel like everyone should try using Bailey's in their coffees at least once in their lifetimes. The amaretto di amor embraced the unique flavor of the amaretto and showcased it proudly. If you're not a fan of amaretto, you probably won't enjoy this drink. For those who have never tried amaretto, it has distinct almond flavor with subtle cherry undertones. The southern star bourbon cream tasted extremely bland until I mixed it thoroughly. Although bourbon is in the name of the drink, I was really struggling to find the bourbon flavor, so don't get your hopes up. The frangelico hazelnut liqueur was terrible. It tastes like you're eating undercooked almonds. It almost made me want to go home to brush my teeth. Overall, 6.5/10 DRINK 3: Butterscotch latte - This drink is a MUST GET. It has the deep, toasted caramel flavor without the overwhelming sweetness of a Butterfingers. After your first sip, I guarantee that your soul will feel a newfound sense of warmth and peace, as if you're getting embraced by a merry Santa Claus. 9/10 WORTH IT? YES! Footnotes is one of the few coffee shops in Winston-Salem that offers not only regular coffee flights but also holiday coffee flights and boozy coffee flights. Even if you don't get one of their flights, I recommend trying either their peppermint mocha or butterscotch latte if you're in the holiday spirit. Try them while you still can!

Yelp
I've been wanting to check this place out for a while, ever since it opened. I just now got around to visiting, and can't say I was missing out on much. It's nice, but there are far superior coffee shops around. If you're looking for cool coffee spots in W-S, stick with Krankies, Twin City Hive, and Camino. If you're looking for a comfy coffee shop, this is not the place. If you're looking for a bar, this is not the place. Honestly, I'm not sure what this place is, and I'm not sure they know either. If you like very high ceilings, concrete floors, large blank white walls, and furniture scattered throughout a very large space, then this might be more your style. They serve coffee, beer (Foothills of course), liquor, wine, etc. But the place seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. There's only six chairs at the bar, but it's also not the kind of place to curl up to sip coffee and read a book. I got regular coffee (I think a regular cup of coffee is the best indicator of a place's ability to make good coffee drinks in general). I was not impressed. It was not hot enough, which is a deal breaker. And the flavor was only average. I'm not saying it was bad coffee, but definitely not worth the price. I also was not impressed with the staff. They were not very personable, and seemed generally aloof and elite. The barista complained to the customer in front of me about how one of her coworkers was talking to her while she was trying to do her job. It's just not professional for baristas to make those kinds of comments to a customer. And finally, the music. One of the most confusing, distracting song selections I have ever heard. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason for how the playlist was curated (if it was curated at all). I generally enjoy an eclectic or different set of songs, but this was downright distracting. I kind of get the feel that this place wants to compete with Krankies' coffee/bar setup. But Krankies does it way better. This place may be a Krankies "wannabe" but it's not the real thing.

Yelp
We were completely blown away by Footnote! We went in for the long anticipated coffee flights, but the brunch was killer too! They have such a great spot, with beautiful outside seating. The staff was accommodating, attentive and friendly! The coffee flight was so aesthetic, and equally delicious. They have lots of choices and the presentation was 11/10! We tried one of everything on the brunch menu.. per usual! The hot chicken and waffles was my favorite! Thanks so much to the awesome staff for a wonderful experience!!

Yelp
I was in a wedding over the weekend that was held at this place and the unprofessionalism and unkindness that the wedding party and guests received is something to be talked about. The bride and groom spent their hard earned money at this place just to be treated as though they were an inconvenience. The event coordinator was as rude as they come and the bartenders were haggling people and bridal party for IDs as if we had them on us after being in the wedding. And lastly, they kicked them out early because they said someone brought in outside liquor. This "outside liquor" was a small bottle inside of a guests purse that was not visible to the employees and was not being drank out of. Meaning they would have had to look inside of her purse. It was an all around bad vibe surrounding what should have been a nice and stress free time for the bride and groom. Don't waste your time planning events with this business.

Yelp
Chris made me the best iced americano with coconut milk. Very friendly, fast service too. Clean and friendly staff. Tucked back near Bookmarks book store. We loved the painted walls of children's' book themes. Truly best iced coffee in town. $4.25 but worth it! Thank you

Yelp
*COVID-19 visit* The. Best. espresso of my life was pulled at Footnote. Divine! The barista told us it was the Cameroon Java blend from Foothills Brewery, and I immediately went online to purchase a bag for my dad for Hanukkah. COVID safety precautions were more laissez-faire than next door at Bookmarks; however, all employees were wearing masks. Other customers were less rule-abiding... I won't be lingering inside before a vaccine, but I hope to return for a drink to go.

Yelp
After one too many days of working from home I needed a change of scenery. It was cold and rainy but I was dying to get out of the house. Thankfully, Footnote is open and it was just what I needed. Even on a dreary rainy day the staff was super cheerful and friendly. Patrons and staff wore masks and the tables are spaced apart to make social distancing feasible but not isolating. I often popped into Footnote for an after work drink but today I REALLY recognized what a gem it is. My drink was perfect and I felt totally comfortable with the masking and social distancing. If I ever need a break I know exactly where to go to see people but not be freaked out about too many people in the space.

Yelp
Have you ever walked into a place and instantly fell in love? Yea, that's what happened at Footnote for me. It is so beautiful inside and I think the smell of coffee and books mixed together brought back a flood of memories of when I would read entire books in bookstores. There seems to be little rooms that are in the works, that would be quite rooms and perfect for busy working days that you need fuel and silence. They had a good variety of drinks to choose from. From coffee to booze to tea to beer. I got a yerba mate with honey and hot damn! it was good. The tea bags were made in front of you and steeped with a perfect tea timer. I can't drink coffee but my friend said it was really good. They also have treats to eat from Chef Shane! I saw the breakfast shane-wich and had instant regret for eating lunch (at Foothills) because I love Shane-wiches! They have a back space for events and I saw pictures of it set up for events and it looked dreamy! I cannot wait to attend an event here to see it in all its glory. Or you can just grab a book from next door, grab a coffee and read your day away.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. I enjoyed the Hazelnut latte. They have a nice selection on seating with covered outdoor tables and inside your choice of sunny window seats and cozy chairs in a softly lit area.

Yelp
I have now been to Footnote a few times and its starting to become one of my favorite spots to go if I need a small space to get some work done or a quiet spot to read. Located somewhat behind/beside Foothills, it is also connected to Bookmarks Bookstore (which is also worth stopping in!). Footnote seems like it is definitely primarily intended, floorpan wise, for use as an event space but when set up with some comfortable chairs, high top tables and chairs and some bar seating, it also works well as a coffeeshop/bar with room for people to get some work done as well. While I am not the biggest coffee connoisseur, most comments I have heard was that it was decent, and I have had their coffee and to me it was plenty drinkable. To me where Footnote really stands out is their bar selection. They have a decent beer and wine menu, and also offer cocktails. And I must say, the cocktails I have had, while not necessarily the cheapest, easily competed with anywhere else I have been in Winston. One drink in particular was the Coffee Old Fashioned. Being a big fan of Old Fashioned's in general, and wanting to try one of their specialty drinks I gave it a shot. It would have been a fantastic Old Fashioned on its own, but the hint of coffee was just enough to give it its very own taste. Not too overpowering, but enough to be different and memorable, I would highly suggest giving it a taste. If you are ever in need of a spot to get some work done and in need of a thirst quencher at the same time, give Footnote a shot!

Yelp
Have been here a few times and have enjoyed the experience. The coffee is good and they now have a full tap installed. They seem to have a great mix of Foothills beers at all times and the cocktails that they have seem to be interesting mixes, if a little expensive. The only thing that stops me from giving a full five stars is that the mug club membership does not transfer over. Also I do not know if the rewards card works here. Please come try this great local spot and the bookstore attached to it.

Yelp
This is much larger than I imagined, comfortable and they have large rooms for events and parties. The drinks were really good, serve Foothills beers on tap. They do have a small menu of snacks but I didn't try any. Small bakery area and coffees, didn't try those. It's connected to a bookstore, so kind of a neat place to hang out.

Yelp
There's really nothing better on a weekend then coming into Footnotes, grabbing a coffee, a delicious treat, and having a good conversation. But what if I raise the stakes? How about stopping next door to browse books? Do you actually want a nice sandwich or salad? How about having hung out so long you want to transition over to an nice, delicious Foothills draft? It's a really pleasant space. Oh and they even let you bring in outside food to enjoy. Between the outdoor spaces out front and back, you have a lot of different options for settings. Plus the inside has a mixture of couches and dining tables. The staff is always pleasant and a lot of fun to talk to. And the baked goods and snacks are hard not to recommend. The chocolate decadence is amazing. It's like a layer of chocolatey fudgy goodness. Their cookies here are super moist end full of flavor. And to top it off if you just get a normal cup of coffee (or refill a specialty) there are plenty of self service stations with all types of coffee varieties.

Yelp
Artsy vibe and relaxed place. Met my girl friend here for a couple of drinks and we liked the energy. We will be back.

Yelp
Absolutely love Footnote as I've recently discovered this spot while attending a birthday. Located near Foothills Brewery, but down a side alley, they share a space with a local bookstore. From a full bar, to a cool coffee bar, sweet offerings, and savory biscuits for those early morning visits, Footnote is certainly a hangout spot we will revisit! They don't mind you bringing in food apparently, and couple that with the ability to enjoy some cocktails, wine, beer, or coffee while checking out some books is quite appealing! A fantastic job done with their decor as well!!

Yelp
I have been here for a few events and once for a meeting. The space has always been fine but not the most amazing. I am finally writing a review based on my last experience during an event. I asked which of two drinks would be the best on their menu and the bartender stated one vs the other because the latter would take him "ten minutes to make." Based on the description this is likely a lie and also poor customer service. Even if this was an event, good customer service is expected and this is confirmation that I will not be patronizing Footnote on my own accord. The drink was fine-I made sure to get the drink the bartender preferred to make so as not to get a "bad" drink.

Yelp
Footenote is a really unique space in an already over-crowded Winston-Salem microbrewery and coffee scene, but has a lot of positive attributes that make it stand out. As Krankies has started inexplicably charging for parking and moved towards a less-than-casual quasi-restaurant space, my go to for months has been the Foothills associated Footnote location. I worked at Bookmarks for several months during the Cafés construction, and I'm glad to have consistently frequented the establishment after returning to Winston. The coffee - brewed in House by Joe, who is terrific - was never my personal go-to (personal hangup, not a comment on his talent), but his cold-brew is next level. Footnote also stocks a huge collection of Art of Tea brand hot and cold teas, a brand which I haven't had easy bulk access to since my time in Arizona. They even heat it to suggested specifications and offer choices of loose-leaf pots or individual bags. The space is emptier, but it creates a quiet environment for doing work or reading without being bothered by anyone. If you're more gregarious, all the staff members are approachable and seem to have fun areas of interest - bartender Chris enjoys movies, for example, and Megan usually has a side-water waiting well before I ask - and are more than happy to chat while serving other customers. Transitioning from my tea into a Foothills beer without having to walk across the street is ideal as well While the space's location may seem odd, the parties and events they put on are all well-managed and enjoyable. I have attended a few of these in the larger back rooms, and they are well run and stocked with food/beverages. Even at these peak hours, the front service staff does a great job of paying attention to regular customers. In short, Footnote manages to offer decent bar snacks without sacrificing its coffee house prowess or narrowing down its coffee focus. The team is great with any form of hot/cold/mixed style coffee drink. There's a reason I have to stop in several times a week when preparing future school work.

Yelp
I finally got to check out Footnote today! My son is finally of age to appreciate Bookmarks and I was excited to access the new(ish) coffee shop attached. The lady behind the bar was SUPER nice and friendly as I walked in with an active toddler. My nitro iced coffee was delicious. I walked into the venue to check it out while it was being made and it is just LOVELY. I would love to go to an event in this space!! I loved the vibe and all the decor. This is was my first stop in but certainly not my last. I want to come back and take advantage of the beers on tap and cocktails that I have heard so much about. I mean beer sipping and book browsing.. yes please! This is my 336th review and living in the 336 area code I'm proud Footnote is the review! I have only been once and already I'm in love. Stop in, I guarantee you will enjoy yourself.

Yelp
I tried this place out a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for a brunch spot. They don't have chicken & waffles as shown on this page. :(

Yelp
Terrible customer service!! Spent a lot of money here for an event and will not be back. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Yelp
Both coffee shop and bar, Footnote is our go-to for a day drink and a game of cards....something about it makes us want to pull up a stool and stay awhile. The staff is friendly and you can order a number of items off Foothills' menu. A downtown favorite!

Yelp
Very good service. Four different choices of drip coffee. I had an Irish Caribbean Cold Brew cocktail, loved it and would like to try the Espresso Martini next.

Yelp
Haven't tried the food yet, but wine selection is OK. The live jazz with guest vocalists is terrific. Good location to relax and enjoy.

Yelp
We have been to Footnote before solely for their drinks and atmosphere, but actually walked around the bookstore tonight. My husband ordered and beer and I ordered a cappuccino because the coffee smelled SO GOOD. We enjoyed checking out all the books in a laid back space. It was a great date night detour into the bookstore and will return for gifts and books!
