Google
Super delicious, quick spot to grab a healthy meal. I was at a meeting on campus (Pyle Center, v close) and came here for lunch every day. Love the automatic offer to have dressing on the side and also free bread :) Friendly staff and the cashew bowl + add tofu was my go to. I also had the power bowl + add chicken. Yum I’m getting hungry.

Google
I ordered the avocado crunch bowl and it was missing half of the ingredients. I contacted the store and they hung up after answering. I called three times before they finally answered, and they were unapologetic about the error. They suggested calling back another time because there was no manager, so they felt like there was "nothing they can do." Honestly, not worth the headache going here again.

Google
I have been to this location several times in the past few years. I tend to go to other Forage Kitchens in the area mainly because the people who work here don't always take care to notice what they are putting in the food. A couple of years ago, a guy who worked here cut my wrap while it was still wrapped in the tinfoil so I had bits of it in my food. That is definitely not okay nor edible! I complained but all I got was "I'm sorry" nothing to correct or better the problem. Today I ordered a plate and this extremely long string like thing was attached to one of the green beans. I complained and was told it was a part of the green bean. Even so would you eat that?? Do not serve something to me that you would not eat. It literally looks like floss to me. I do not like that i have to be extremely vigilant about looking at my food to make sure it's ok to eat

Google
Clean, quiet, and delicious aromas! Looking for a healthy option? Forage Kitchen should be pinned for your next place to enjoy.

Google
I had a lovely dinner at Forage Kitchen after a conference at the University of Wisconsin Madison! I was looking for a light and healthy dinner, so I got one of the Bowls on the menu - and I was pleasantly surprised to find every ingredient really flavorful and fresh. Both the space inside the outside are cozy and clean, and the stuff was really delightful. I absolutely recommend stopping here when in Madison.

Google
Terrible, I had to throw the whole bowl out. Coming from out of town, the Forage Kitchen in my city near me is nice, clean and friendly. This was the total opposite! THERE’S NO GRADE RATING posted and they act like they didn’t know what I was talking about (I should’ve known then), a smell hits when you walk in (again staff clueless), the atmosphere was blah, I should’ve just walked out. It’s already hard to eat as vegan 🌱 , but now I know Madison, WI don’t got shit for me ew, 3rd trash place tonight and money wasted.

Google
Best after class spot. Super clean ingredients, wide variety, and great taste.

Google
🥲I’m so so disappointed. Maybe it’s just one of those days for them, but I went to get a wrap today and it was just horrible. Imagine looking forward to having another nice wrap at this place and then it all goes down hill. The wrap was oddly wrapped, big wide but also flat. It did not resemble a wrap at all. Then I also found hair in the wrap while I was eating it on one of my lettuce leaves 😩. When I unwrapped the wrap itself it was messy and drippy everywhere. To make it worse, I saw the girl wrapping it and most of the wrap was on the bare counter before she now put it back on the foil then struggled to wrap it. I couldn’t even eat or finish it after spending nearly $15 of my money. It was great the first I went which is why I went back this second time, but after this experience they won’t be seeing me again 🥲.

Yelp
During a work trip, my coworker and I ended up stopping by here twice! They're pretty open to adjusting any of the menu items if you have a dietary restrictions/preferences. Their staff were great and accommodating. There isn't much parking around and there can be a small line in the store (that moves fairly quickly)! A couple small tables line the front of the building for outdoor seating and they have a couple tables indoor as well. Both times I got the tuna poke bowl and bone broth. The tuna poke bowl seems like frozen tuna blocks (expected) with grains and pickled veggies. It was pretty light and refreshing. The bone broth was a good sip on the side! I would recommend getting it in a to go container, since it seemed to stay warmer in that compared to the bowl. I also tried their kombucha which had a stronger aftertaste of beer than what I'm used to (probably wouldn't get again). Overall, compared to other tuna I've had in the past, nothing stands out significantly but it's a great healthy dining option that's walking distance from Memorial Union!

Reginice C.

Yelp
We both had the Avocado Crunch. It was a symphony of flavors! Delicious! I would order the same thing.

Nicole D.

Yelp
Gluten free and delightful! I got the avocado crunch and it was fresh and zesty. Yum! It's a good portion and everything is balanced
google avatar

Joanna R.

Yelp
Worth repeat visits. Came twice while staying in the area. Fresh ingredients. Nice healthy options. They can run out of items in the evening but will offer to substitute. Comfortable seating. Friendly service. Smiling and happy to help. Wish I lived nearby.

Yelp
Visited Forage kitchen (state street location) for the first time for a quick Sunday lunch. The venue was spacious and clean. Had been to the location at Hilldale before, but this was my first time trying their grain bowls. After getting the Cashew bowl with roasted chicken, I have to say I am a fan of what forage kitchen is doing! The bowl was ~$15 ($11 for the cashew + $3.50 for the chicken) which was comparable to price with crisp & green and sweet green. First impression was that the bowl was filled to the brim! I dined in and the portion size was huge, worth it in my opinion for the price (not sure if they load up to-gos the same). The salad had nice seasoning, was filled with fresh greens, and overall satisfied my healthy craving.

Ella F.

Yelp
I am a consistent forage customer, so trust me when I say I know ball, but when it comes to bowl girth t's hard to enjoy it when all I get a total of 3 bites in my entire bowl. The location on State street always chiefs me out of the $13-15 I spend per meal by only filling my bowl up halfway. Ive never wanted to dine and dash so badly.

Lori J.

Yelp
Power Bowl was delicious! We added chicken to ours; however, we were disappointed to find that it was not all chicken breast or was not the best quality. We should have questioned that when ordering.
google avatar

Xiomary S.

Yelp
Come hungry and leave fully satisfied with a healthy and delicious meal. The concept is like chipotle and sweet green. The Green Mole with chicken was fresh and bursting with flavor. It's a big portion but you don't feel heavy afterwards or you can save some for later. The place is clean and has ample seating across the right wall, and upper front corner of the entrance where you get nice sunlight. We were quickly greeted and helped as soon as we got to the counter. The staff was able to answer questions about what ingredients are what can can't be substituted etc. If they were closer they would take all my lunch money!
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh delicious ingredients, build your own bowl or pick a favorite from the menu. Promote service and reasonable prices. Clean & bright store with many locations.

Yelp
It's a cold windy day. You're starving. You take your Ugg-clad feet and shuffle down State Street in your cropped puffy jacket and Lululemon flare pants. Where are you headed? Forage Kitchen! There's no better place for a quick healthy meal than Forage for a cold day. No hate on the college 'srat fit! But you will probably have to wait with a horde of young college students while in line. But it's worth it cuz no doubt you'll get two meals out of a bowl here! I always get the Thai Bowl with roasted tempeh, which is around 15-16 dollars. The soup is always so creamy and rich. There's some nice acidity in the veg and rice and the tempeh rounds it out with a bit of sweetness. Forage is also killing the game with their local produce. Honestly if you can beat the horde of students headed here during rush meal hours. It's so dang worth it. The line goes quickly too!

T F.

Yelp
Forage is a health, fresh, fast GEM. Absolutely love this place...there's a whole range of deliciousness available. love the fiesta bowl, the Thai bowl, you name it. So yummy.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is very good, be prepared for a lot of flavor! Servers are very kind and accommodating when it comes to allergies. Ambiance is fresh and bright! Highly recommend!

Kate T.

Yelp
As someone who has to cater lunches for work events in cities I am unfamiliar with, I wish every experience was as amazing as working with Forage Kitchen was! Darlene was kind, gracious, and helpful in getting the order rolling. The day-of, the location that was preparing the food lost their A/C, but they made the food and communicated with us so we could coordinate an early delivery. Then the food itself - delicious! Everyone thought it was amazing, and the ability for everyone to make their own customized bowl was well-received. I wish Forage Kitchen was all across the U.S. because it would be my to-go every time I needed to cater. Kudos!

Yelp
It's been years since I last went to Forage Kitchen and I'm glad I came back! I got the Batatas salad bowl at their downtown location. I prefer the Hilldale location, as it is larger and more sunlit, but this location was still very welcoming and clean. The employees were kind and accommodating to my requests to customize the bowl a little. They definitely loaded up my bowl, but there was disparity as another customer asked me what I ordered because he was disappointed with how small his bowl was. The free sourdough is a nice touch. I do wish there were croutons or some crunch to top off my salad but the sourdough definitely helped replace that. The salad seemed fresh and was tasty. I was extremely full after (in a good way). I added chicken to my salad, but next time I probably won't be doing that as it is not necessary! I will definitely be ordering salads from here again.
google avatar

Masha V.

Yelp
Wow. This place is DELICIOUS! So much flavor, even down to the sourdough bread and guacamole. Clean place and friendly service too? I'm in. I will make sure to return when I'm here for work!
google avatar

Anita S.

Yelp
Good food but wish it was offered at least warm. Would prefer piping hot! And where's the hot water and tea?
google avatar

Roxanne T.

Yelp
I've tried the power bowl and I've built my own bowl. I was equally impressed every time I've ordered. The service was friendly and speedy. The restaurant is clean. The food is sooo delicious! Visit weekly!
google avatar

Mag L.

Yelp
I really thought that Forage was going to be an overrated and healthier version of your typical fast casual, but I was pleasantly surprised! The food tasted so fresh and high quality. I loved all of their topping options. I built my own with spring mix, sweet potato, rosemary lentils, pickled red onions, roasted chicken, and maple balsamic dressing. The bowl was PERFECT. I want to try more of the options, but I enjoyed this one so much I want it again. I ordered online, and my order was ready and fresh when I got there. I will definitely be ordering from any location that Forage has in the future after my great experience here.

Walter B.

Yelp
This is some of the best food I have ever had. I live in northern Wisconsin where food like this has yet to make an appearance. My food from the Forage Kitchen has been fresh and delicious, especially the lentil meatballs! Please open one of these up in Door County, where we desperately need good food.
google avatar

Vicki L.

Yelp
Excellent salad and bowl options. Loved the customization detailed options with online ordering. Tasty!
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
Wow, I just had one of the best Cobb salads of my life at forage. It was huge, full of flavor. I was a little concerned when I saw that the chicken was shredded...it's just not what I'm used to with a Cobb salad but it was incredibly delicious. My daughter had the chicken Caesar and loved it too. She always talked about forage during her freshman year at UW and now I understand why! Service was great (they make your salad in front of you while you stand at the counter) and the ambiance was good- we sat outside on state street people watching on a gorgeous summer day. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Manas V.

Yelp
Great option if looking for a healthier meal that still tastes great with good portion sizes. Got the power bowl which was very good, only downside was I would've wanted more sweet potatoes (because they were really good)

Michael L.

Yelp
The food is honestly good, but besides that, the location has been getting worse. They've been giving less food in their portions (as if it isn't expensive to begin with) and the quality of service just isn't that great anymore.
google avatar

Sal K.

Yelp
The Thai bowl with tofu is the way to go. The black rice is a lovely, chewy alternative to the typical white or brown rice. I got mine with extra broccoli, because duh. The portions are huge so you'll probably get two meals out of it.
google avatar

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
Food was kind of pricey but it tasted amazing. There is outdoor seating but they close up at 8 pm just an FYI in case anyone wanted to eat outside

Ann W.

Yelp
Forage is my go to when I'm hungry and want to eat super healthy food. Thai bowl is my favorite.
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
I wish I had Forage Kitchen near my apartment, because quite often I find myself in the mood for one of their grain bowls and nowhere to go to get one just like it. Over the course of a few visits, I tried both their fiesta bowl and their power bowl, and the power bowl would be something I would get on a regular basis if I lived in the area. I didn't have a chance to try the Thai bowl but that one also sounded great. The power bowl contained black rice, lentils, roasted sweet potatoes, poblano slaw, green onions, guacamole, jerk chicken, and a green goddess dressing. The dressing was delicious, and it was overall just a well-composed bowl of healthy ingredients. It was also very satisfying and filling with tons of flavor. The bowls at Forage Kitchen are on the more expensive side, but the portion size is fairly generous (I had leftovers) and you're paying for high quality, fresh ingredients. I especially liked that all their dressings were dairy-free. Great healthy option near campus and downtown!

Yelp
This is a favorite stop of mine anytime I'm in Madison! I'm usually flying in and out of Forage to get lunch before heading to a meeting, so I appreciate how fast this place is. More importantly though, it's so healthy and the food is so flavorful that you don't wish you were eating something else! I am a huge fan of the grain bowls here, and my top favorite is the Thai Bowl, featuring Thai red curry sauce, forbidden black rice, roasted sweet potatoes, daikon, cucumber, cilantro, Thai basil, and lemon herb chicken. It's one of the best lunches I've ever had, actually, and I keep ordering it every time. The Fiesta Bowl is great as well, but still doesn't beat the Thai Bowl. Forage is a beautiful, clean space and is a perfect spot to unwind for a little bit during a busy work day. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Aysha R.

Yelp
Had options for everyone I love this place the food is so healthy, it's Keto friendly too!
google avatar

Scott P.

Yelp
First time here for lunch. Amazing Club Med Bowl and Local Roots Salad! Great lunch spot for our visit to Madison. Clean and great service. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Haley L.

Yelp
As good as the food is here, I think it's overrated (and overpriced). It is a great option if you need a quick meal but want to stay healthy, but know that you could totally make these bowls yourself at home. Make sure you bring a jacket, the restaurant is always freezing inside.

Tiana M.

Yelp
Stopped in here on a trip to Madison and so glad I did. The salad was fresh, flavorful and filling! Service was super quick. I chose a premade salad although you can opt to make your own. They had a nice couple outdoor seats you could sit at and enjoy the weather. Just like a replica of sweetgreen. If I am ever back in Madison, I would return! Highly recommend. The sourdough bread is delicious
google avatar

Teresa H.

Yelp
Yum! I have loved everything I have tried from Forage Kitchen. Their bowls are loaded up (I've made each of mine into 2 meals) and have such amazing variety to suit any taste. Delivery is quick and easy and I love getting a "healthier" option than most takeout.
google avatar

Lydia A.

Yelp
I come here every time I come to Madison. It's a healthy, quick go-to option and I've loved all the bowls I've tried including the power bowl (my favorite, Thai curry and Thai cashew. Unfortunately chicken is extra and I also wish they had other protein options besides chicken and tempeh. They also write where all their Ingredients are from which I appreciate.
google avatar

Sunina G.

Yelp
Tried this place when I wanted something a little healthier than my usual takeout and it was so good! I got the Mediterrranean bowl and really enjoyed the flavors. Didn't feel like I needed to add anything to it. I also tried their green juice and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Definitely doesn't have a weird aftertaste like a lot of other green juices.
google avatar

Dana L.

Yelp
Really filling and yummy! I decided on the Thai grain bowl because I felt like a salad wouldn't fill me up. I struggled to finish it because the portion was so big! They didn't have fresh like wedges, but offered to drizzle some lime juice over for me, and it tasted great. The Thai Bowl is sweet and tart, which is all I ever want in my food. There was a perfect amount of curry to mix with the rice and sweet potato, and the CHICKEN. The chicken was so amazing. I was worried I would have to wait for a table to sit at given the long line, but most people ended up ordering to go and I got my table and enjoy how calm it was inside. They were playing Korean R&B while I was there and I really enjoyed it. I'm a creature of habit and will probably be getting the Thai Bowl every day this week, but the Power Bowl sounds really tempting.
google avatar

Kayla P.

Yelp
Honestly I am so disappointed with this place.. there was a bug in my Caesar salad and I kept digging to find a hair. Service wasn't very cheerful either. Paid $12 for a salad that I couldn't even eat.
google avatar

Kyle A.

Yelp
First off I must apologize to any staff who may have seen me slightly off - I just came here after some drinks with my family and was very out of it. My ability to read and hear were very impaired but I'm grateful the staff was very patient and polite with me. I was recommended this place by my in-laws since I've got celiac disease and I can tell the staff takes pride in their works and they are very dedicated to limiting cross contamination. I had myself the Power Bowl with lentil meatballs and it was tasty! Just the right blend of seasoning and spices to give it a kick but not leave me begging for cold water. Great sauce drizzled in the main dish. Came in hungry and left with a full stomach. Thank you so much to the amazing g crew for such a great experience.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
This is a totally hidden Madison gem. The food is exceptional and the ingredients are super fresh. They make things in front of you and portions are ample. You can build your own bowl or go with one of the delicious combinations on the menu. We had the Cobb and the Local Roots salads with chicken -- everything was delicious. They also make their own kombucha which is canned and commercially available now and it's delicious and refreshing. I don't usually like kombucha and I would drink every flavor at Forage. My biggest complaint about Forage is that I had no idea it was even there. They really need to increase their signage or put something on the door and in the windows. I've been walking by this place for years until someone led me inside for a lunch meeting. If you want a lunch spot, go here! The seating is decent and people are typically in and out quick enough. Quinoa bowls are delicious and it's just good food. A little pricey for students, so make it an on-occasion meal!

Estella M.

Yelp
Very solid. The Thai bowl, cashew bowl, and batatas rancheros are my three favorite menu items. I do occasionally feel like the portions are a little skimpy and sometimes the rice is overcooked. Other than that, I appreciate that this place is local, and I will choose it over a sweetgreen/ chain salad place everyday. Usually fast service, depends on line. Lunch time can be quite busy.

Nitisha T.

Yelp
Ordered online from the restaurant. Really liked their food. However, ordered today and found an insect in the bowl! Never ordering again.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Forage is closer to UW than it is to Monona Terrace, but we really wanted salads so we made the trek. I had the Cultured Cobb and my coworker had the Batatas Rancheros. The portions here are huge. I really enjoyed my Cultured Cobb - it tasted really fresh and the ingredients were abundant. They do not skimp on the salad components here. The red wine vinaigrette was light and refreshing. I really liked the chopped egg, fresh corn, and avocado. If you're in the UW/Madison area looking for a Sweetgreen-type salad spot, Forage will definitely hit the spot.
google avatar

Ted J.

Yelp
Great, healthy and flavorful. They offer a nice rewards program, the tempah option is delicious and their brewed iced teas are delicious. The black rice can be a little toothsome and al dente for my preference. Some bites actually hurt my teeth. Limited seating too as an FYI.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
This is one of their many locations. It's a cute spot on state street. I recommend the cashew bowl! It's a mix of rice/greens plus veggies and you can choose your protein. They also have their own kombuchas!
google avatar

Sahian C.

Yelp
This is probably my most frequented restaurant on State St. I go here super often, because I love the wide variety of bowls and dishes that I can put together with the build-your-own option. Although it's a bit pricey, I go here because it's healthy and bc they also sell really good kombucha. I do wish they had tofu as an option for the bowls, though. In three months of eating here consistently, they've only ever switched my order with someone else's once, which I think is pretty good. Also, I highly recommend ordering ahead online! The website is super easy to navigate, and the order is always ready by the estimated time.
google avatar

Mikol T.

Yelp
I have been here three time and I'm going to keep coming back, for the salad. I have yet to try one of their pre-made bowls because I love customization. My favorite combo thus far has been quinoa, mixed greens, cucumber, carrots, avocado, goat cheese, lemon chicken, and then either green goddess or Thai basil pesto my dressing. If they have the bread baked when you go in, make sure to ask for it, it is great! Now if you're coming here I wouldn't recommend anything other than a salad. Like seriously do not get anything else. I tired the green tea smoothie and it was horrible. The smoothie bowls are very eh and not worth the price. The salads are a bit on the pricier side but it's worth it for now much food you get. Staff is nice and I love the ambiance. There is outdoor seating too. I would highly recommend for lunch or and early dinner. Will most defiantly be returning.
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
This place is ok. I have been to a lot of "bowl" places before and this was my least favorite. Staff was no very friendly and their area was very messy - i would be very concerned about gross contamination if you have any allergies. I got the power bowl and the flavor was ok - the rosemary lentils were a little odd and didnt seem to jive with the guac and green goddess sauce. healthy alternative if you are on the go - but the quality and consistency is not something that I recognized
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
This place is delicious, especially if you're looking for a casual, lighter meal on the go. I've been to the State Street location in the past and will admit I was never incredibly impressed, but my most recent visit to the Hilldale location was stellar. Service is super friendly and fast if you want to take your meal to go, but there is also a decent amount of seating to sit around and eat there as well. Great location with accessible parking as well. Forage has a huge variety of grain bowls, salads, and protein combinations to choose from. I tried the Thai cashew bowl with dry rubbed chicken, radish, rainbow carrot, broccoli, green onion, cilantro, roasted cashews, sesame seeds, and thai cashew dressing all on a bed of mixed greens and black rice. The roasted cashews give this bowl an awesome texture and the dressing really ties it all together. The chicken was also surprisingly flavorful and while it was dry-rubbed, there was nothing dry about the chicken itself. They make the bowl right in front of you and mix everything thoroughly (which, to be honest, is the best part about ordering a salad somewhere instead of making it yourself). Each bowl is made with fresh ingredients and runs around $13 for a bowl with protein added, but is big enough and filling enough for almost two meals. Pro tip: If you sign up for their rewards program, they send you a coupon for an entire free bowl on your birthday! (The best birthday reward I've seen at any restaurant!!) Will definitely be back here - I love the idea of being able to get a healthy, filling meal without needing to sit down for an entire meal. Thanks to Forage for staying true to providing local ingredients and sourcing to Madison food scene!

Kate L.

Yelp
forage kitchen is my favorite place in Madison. I HIGHLY recommend the fiesta bowl with guacamole and extra tortilla chips. The salsa Roja in this bowl is TO DIE FOR!! A must try if you are ever in Madison and need a bite to eat that makes you feel guilt free. You cannot go wrong with any of the pre-made bowls, I literally go here at least once a week and never get sick of it.
