"Forastero, a Mexican-Korean restaurant known for tacos and chicken wings, is closing after five years. The pandemic left the restaurant with insurmountable debt. The co-owner hopes for support from fans before closing on August 7." - Ashok Selvam

"This Old Town fast-casual fusion restaurant blends Mexican and Korean flavors in tacos and chicken wings. One of the strongest items is the fish taco. It’s tempura fried and topped with a Korean-style aioli." - Ashok Selvam

Best fish tacos I've ever had. I dined in here a couple of months ago on a double date, and I just had take-out last night. I absolutely love it. Everything about the food at Forastero is done perfectly: the flavors, the textures, the freshness of the ingredients, did I mention the flavors? The tamales were some of the best I've ever had (two for $6 is a steal!) The pork in the tamales was tender, perfectly fatty, generously portioned, and seasoned to perfection. The wings and the kimchi fries are the bomb. All of the tacos are awesome- great flavor and ingredient combinations (but the Crispy Fish taco is hands down the best). There's plenty of seating, they have daily specials, and they're BYOB! Service is quick and friendly, and you can tell the owner really cares about his patrons and his business. I will continue coming here and will rave to everyone I know about this hidden gem in Chicago.

Pretty good experience and very friendly service. Had a medium sized group and were able to be seated Sunday evening. Got the Forastero, fish, and kalbi tacos. All good, but I definitely thought the fish stood out. Good crisp and excellent flavor. Dak wings were a big disappointment. Came out way too hot on the inside (seemed like it was nuked in the microwave) and the sauce was heavy and artificial. Decent sized portion so didn’t mind the price too much. Friends thought the kimchi fries and bugolgi bowl were also decent. Overall very large selection and want to try the vegan menu next time.

What an amazing place in an unassuming stretch of North Avenue. An unlikely fusion of Korean and Mexican food results in spicy, tangy and wonderful pallet of flavors. Each dish seems to top the high praise I offered the previous meal and I am excited to return. Run by a father and son team giving it their all, you absolutely need to eat here! Plus they seem to have a green thumb with a bunch of indoor plants creating an oxygen rich environment inside.

I enjoyed the VEGAN kimchi fries BUT i would prefer it without the kimchi. I just really like the cheese fries i didn't really need the kimchi in it The soy taco and korean bbq pork taco are really the best!! I dined in but i had to order to go it was rlly that good. I will def take vegan and nonvegan friends here.

Korean Mexican fusion is an interesting concept and they have a pretty interesting and tasty-looking menu. I got the Korean BBQ sandwich and kimchi fries. Both were tasty, but admittedly I got the more Korean dishes so I didn't feel the fusion. They have good vegan options, my vegan friend enjoyed her meal (vegan kimchi fries and vegan floutas). Overall nice decor, BYOB, chill atmosphere, medium amount of seating. I would consider coming back here to try to rest of the menu.

The food here is spectacular! The wings and tacos have such a unique and flavorful taste, you'll love it. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended if you're a fan of Korean and Mexican food or just looking to try something unique!

Came here on a late Friday night with a large party. I was eyeing this place all day and chose to end our night here because of the great reviews. This place did not disappoint at all with quality in food, service and value. My friends and I ordered everything from the kalbi bibimbap, kim chi fries, Korean wings, Korean bbq sandwhich, horchata, ga fish, porky pig, sesame kalbi and the kiss tacos. The tacos I mentioned are a must order. Meats are well seasoned, cooked perfectly and theres plenty of meat. Its asian fusion at its best. The wings were average in size, but the sauce was a lil too tart and thick. Piping hot and still very good. The bibimbap and kim chi fries are a must order as well. The combination of flavors and the hot bowl were perfect. It was so good that between the 8 of us we were fight between the last grain of rice. The fries are packed with plenty of meat and kim chi. If you love this combination of flavors definitely order this dish. Overall, this is a great place to come for lunch or dinner. We saw people placing a bunch of carry out orders. The location itself is staffed very well and kept very clean. Food came out really quick and we loved our experience. I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in town to try more of their dishes.

This place is fantastic! Best kimchi fries I’ve ever had. Wife and we’re fighting over which taco was the best- porky pig, esta camarron, go fish or forastero. Wow! What flavor!
