A Lawsuit Could Derail One of the Biggest Players in the American Liquor Industry - Eater SF

"After two potential customers did a 180 when walking into Forbes Mill Steakhouse, ownership decided it was time to freshen up the place. The Mercury News reports the restaurant and bar, which opened in 2003, has undergone several big improvements that culminated this month." - Paolo Bicchieri

I concur this is a great restaurant who deserves a five star review. Food - excellent Service - excellent Environmental - comfortable Pictures show what we had. Everything was delicious. Calamari was lightly battered and very crispy. Cesar salad dressing was perfectly balanced with the citrusy. Shrimp scampi was generous. Look at the shrimp and the linguine was cooked to authentic perfection. Rib eye steak was perfect. Short rib melt in your mouth. The mash potatoes were also seasoned right. I didn’t like too vinegary Brussel sprouts, need to toss them with a little bit more honey to balance the flavor. Overall, it was a pleasant meal and a great birthday celebration.

I ordered a Tomahawk steak, and it was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. The staff were friendly and caring, and their service was exceptional and thoughtful. It’s a perfect place for a date with family, friends, or loved ones.

Another celebratory dinner! Another awesome meal with excellent service. It wasn't super crowded when we came but reservations are a must as it was pretty busy. The meat was cooked perfectly and the flavors were excellent. Passed on desert as the mains left me full. The old fashioned was ok... Not the best and not the worst. I have explored this side of the bay too much, so I can't compare it with the other venues yet

Honestly everything was perfect start to finish. We started out with a delicious strawberry spinach and goat cheese sald that had pistachios in it, so good. Then had a french onion soup ahi tartare. Both so amazing. Then we ordered 3 entrées the filet mignon w scampi oscar style, the the filet mignon with asparagus and wasabi mashed and the Scallops in a passion fruit Beurre blanc sauce. All amazing and id defeninitely order all again. Then ended up with the most delicious Kona coffee crème brûlée.

Atmosphere is fine as well as service. Typically steak is cooked as ordered however when I order a medium rare and it’s cold and raw on the inside the rating goes down from a 5 star to a 4. Always a nice crowd in restaurant but the interior is very dark and looks similar to a Marriott hotel to be honest. It’s the nicest steak house in the area IMO.

The word that comes to mind is disappointed... I remember back in 2019.We went for my mom's 60th birthday. I remember the food was phenomenal. It melted in your mouth with flavor it was so good.I couldn't stop thinking about it. After my husband's deployment in 2020, I went back to forbes mills. It was still so delicious even though it's a more pricey place. It was well worth it. Now fast forward December 27, 2024. We now live in washington, and we're driving down to california to visit family for the holidays. It was my husband's birthday, and I knew exactly the spot to go forbes mills for an amazing dinner. They even print his name on menu which is so awesome. The atmosphere is nice it gets loud but its still nice. The servers were really good a nice. Something has definitely changed in the last four years. For the price ford mills charges you, the food was absolutely below par. It was flavorless, the rice was crunchy. They tried to give us a new thing of rice, and that still was gross, it lacked the texture and flavor of good white rice. They tired to bring out potato and cheese replacement, and that also lacked flavor it tastes gross and flavorless. The meat was cooked pretty good. We had medium rare, but it also lacked any type of flavor tho. I will say the lobster was cooked perfectly, It was delicious. The clam chowder also lacked flavor it was okay. The bowl of mushrooms was ok. The oysters were absolutely delicious. The dessert was good. My drink was good. For a $300 meal it was not worth it at all this time. I was sadly disappointed, it fell short in so many ways. It is not a meal. I will remember being so delicious. It will be a meal that will forever be disappointed in.

Our meals were delicious, and our waitress was very attentive. Highly recommend the fried calamari and the Prickly Pear Margarita, both were excellent. However, there were a few drawbacks to our visit. When we arrived, we made eye contact with the hostess, but instead of greeting us, she answered the phone and stayed on the call rather than placing it on hold. At a high-end restaurant, the guest standing in front of you should take priority. We had a reservation but weren’t seated until 10 minutes past our time — and a walk-in party (also of 2) was seated before us, which made the delay even more frustrating. Also worth noting: the hostess’s skirt was extremely short, noticeably so. It felt inappropriate for the setting and gave off a less-than-professional impression. I would like to add that the tables felt a bit too close together. Hard to hear others in your party. We had a screaming toddler near us and then siblings who we learned way too much about; unwillingly! Finally, on our way out, we said goodbye, but the host stand staff didn’t acknowledge us. Both were too busy on their phones. The food and table service were great, but the front-of-house experience needs serious attention if they want the overall experience to match the quality of the kitchen.

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot! I took my fiancee here to celebrate his promotion and it was the perfect ambiance. We celebrated on a Thursday night, and tables were full. Luckily we did have a reservation so we didn't have to wait to be seated. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Mac and Cheese- Loaded : Let me just say... this is probably one of the best Mac & Cheeses' i've ever had. The hot links gives it a kick so if you can't handle spice, i don't recommend. The Mac and Cheese was so creamy and flavorful, i highly recommend trying ! Calamari was delicious as well. Fried and seasoned well. Calamari is usually our go to appetizer so i don't think it was the best i've ever had, but it was still very good. It came with the traditional sauces: tartar and marinara. Both sauces were good. Brussel Sprouts: You can't tell in the photo but the brussel sprouts are pretty big in size. I prefer mine more bite size, but they were seasoned well. It had a nice sweetness and a bit charred. But not too carred where it tastes burnt. For my entree, i ordered the Prime Blackened Ribeye- Medium. It was cooked just the way i liked it and the crispy onions on top were to die for. It came with a side of mashed potatoes but they were pretty plain. It was creamy and smooth but lacked flavor. Despite this, the steak had great seasoning and flavor and complimented well with the mashed potatoes. As for the cocktails, all of them were pretty strong. I didn't love any of them, but they weren't terrible either.

Yelp
This interview is long overdue. I was here recently on 2 occasions, Mother's Day and a Retirement Celebration for my dad. Both times we were lucky enough to have Danielle as our server. I have to say that I personally loved the service. We had such a good time that moving forward we will be asking to be seated in Danielle's section as she gives excellent service and is genuinely happy! We were seated a bit early at 4 PM and it was nice and quiet both times. The food was amazing from beginning to end. My dad is someone who likes to salt everything and during both visits to FM he didn't salt anything and said that it was very seasoned and flavorful, as is. Usually my dad complains about everything. But on these 2 occasions, he did not. Lol. Both experiences were 5 stars, easy. Thank you, Danielle, for giving us such a grand experience! We look forward to seeing you again next time!

Yelp
I was just in Forbes Mill - and I was not overly impressed. The ambiance is definitely that of a high end steakhouse. It was a nice place. I was in a party of 7 and it wasn't that busy that the waitress couldn't keep an eye on our drinks. We were doing soft drinks, so it shouldn't be that hard to refill them. So the overall service was ok. Nothing amazing. As for the food, I had a bone-in ribeye. It was 20 oz. 2-3 oz was for the bone. And then I had about 4-5 oz of fat cap around my ribeye. I know ribeyes have some fat around them, but in a good steak joint, that much fat should have been trimmed and not counted for total weight. And I paid top dollar for it, and left completely underwhelmed. Stick to the filet. A bit smaller than the ribeye but at least that was extremely tender. I also had a small bowl of French Onion Soup. Rich tasty broth... was it worth $15. No. A lot of this place you're paying for some reason, either the area or the impression it is supposed to leave you, Again, overall it was decent to good but not worth the price. And I don't mind paying for quality, if it's there but this place was not impressive at all.

Yelp
This is my go to steakhouse in the Tri Valley. A large group of us went to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. The service is always on point - they are always attentive, kind and helpful. Most of our dishes were perfectly seasoned and cooked. There were two ribeyes that were a bit overly salty but overall cooked well. I appreciate that most of their dishes come with at least one side unlike other locations where you must order all sides separately. They also brought out a nice dessert for our birthday girl to enjoy with 6 spoons! For the price it is definitely worth going. In my top 3 steakhouses and I've eaten at many of the other high end chains.

Yelp
We celebrated our 4-year anniversary at Forbes Mill last night and had a positive experience. While it's a traditional steakhouse, it still felt modern and upscale. The restaurant is conveniently located right next to Piatti's with a sizeable plaza parking lot. We were seated in a booth that fits 2 and enjoyed an appetizer, a steak with 2 sides, and finished with 2 desserts. Prices are as expected for this type of establishment and service was appropriate as well. We asked for our steak to be served medium and it came out almost rare and pretty cold. It promptly came back perfectly medium and hot off the grill. This was not the best steak I've ever had, but it was good- especially for a local establishment. If you're looking for a traditional steakhouse dinner for a special occasion, Forbes Mill would be a reliable option. - fried calamari: super light and tasty. Would get this again. - cowboy bone in ribeye: tender, but I wish it was a thicker steak with a crispier and more salty crust. - fries: just okay. Cold and bland. I would pass on these next time. - loaded mac and cheese: so unique. I've never seen anything like this on the menu before. It was loaded with hot links, jalapeños, and bacon- we wiped it clean. - chocolate torte: this was fine and very sweet of them to offer for our anniversary celebration. - butter cake: very, very good. I'd definitely get this again. Super moist butter cake with a memorably delicious vanilla gelato on top.

Yelp
I came here with my wife for our 3 year wedding anniversary dinner. I heard great things about this place so I had high expectations. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and the service was really good. Most importantly the food was delicious. Probably the best steak I've had in the Bay Area. The side and steak was delicious and was served hot. I'll certainly be back.

Yelp
We came here for a wedding anniversary party. Everything was very delicous. Service was extremely attentive and friendly. Aaron was very professional and gave us an exceptional experience. This was our first time at Forbes. The ribeye cowboy cut was so delicious! Will definitely come back again. Parking was plentiful. Can be hard during weekend nights but can park further away. The ambiance was very nice. Can be both casual or dressed up.

Yelp
Forbes is always a treat! We booked a reservation here for Valentine's Day about three months in advance. Forbes always book out quickly for special occasions. Their service and food are always on point. Our visit was no different. We were seated quickly after checking in with the host. Almost like our table was already assigned upon arrival - loved that! Our server came by quickly and greeted us right away. We brought a wine bottle to cork and he noticed right away and asked us about cocktails and wine. We asked about any special cocktails for Valentine's Day and he went over the drinks for the special day. After looking over the wine and cocktail menus, we decided to stick with our wine we brought - 2019 Flowers Pinot, one of our favorite bottles. The server went over some food recommendations and answered some of our questions about their filet. We placed our order shortly after. Restaurant was dimmed and a romantic ambiance. Table area and floor was clean and neat. Restroom was clean. Service and food was in incredible. We were so happy with everything - we ordered a lot of food. One person with us has never been to Forbes and was truly impressed and happy with their experience. If you haven't tried Forbes yet, you need to put them on your list. It's a great treat for any day, especially for special occasions. After paying, they brought us two beautiful roses for my daughter and myself :) What we ordered: French onion soup Oysters Bread and butter Prime filet mignon Ribeye w/ add-on scallops and garlic mashed potatoes Halibut w/ crab, asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes Side mac and cheese Side sautéed mushroom Side potato wedges Butter cake w/ vanilla bean gelato Flourless chocolate torte

Yelp
We went to Forbes last night for our anniversary and had a fabulous dinner. Our server, Ines had a great vibe and created a lot of positive energy. We started with calamari, had a fabulous filet mignon, cooked to perfection, and finished with butter cake and a 10 year old port. When you get to a restaurant and have a really good server, it makes a big difference for me, and how our experience goes.... ours was absolutely A plus.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. It is a quiet restaurant and they were able to accommodate last minute dinner for 10 people. The ribeye is delicious and cooked as expected. Others raved that the bone-in ribeye with scallops were delicious. Our waitress was able to pair our dinner with a delicious local wine. Definitely would come back.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday evening with some family. Place looks really classy and the service is top-notch. However, the food as well. This place kind of fell flat at $60-$100 a plate. They have a great wine list on a tablet which explains each wine to help you make a decision which I've only seen at a few other establishments so that's a nice touch. The desserts tasted like they came straight from Safeway, so maybe don't get those. Overall, not a horrible place but not an amazing place to drop $309 to $400.

Yelp
Review #846 Posted on 1.1.25 We came here for our annual friends steakhouse holiday dinner on Saturday night December 28th. This spot is located in Danville right next to the Sycamore Valley exit off of 680. They've got a couple cuts of filet, bone-In Ribeye, Dry aged New York all to choose from with some classic seafood options to top them with. I actually went down the menu and grabbed the 14 oz Blackened Ribeye, which came with blue cheese butter, carmelized onions, & mash. It was an excellent cut of meat. My son also ordered the blackened ribeye, his cooked good as well. My daughter got the filet medium, but it had no pink inside. Service was very good, they were attentive, and on top of things. I believe corking fee is $35 here if you bring your own bottles of wine.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and the service was amazing and the food was great as well. The ambiance is great for a date night, bday or any celebration. Love this place and would recommend to book ahead of time.

Yelp
My hubby and I were super excited to try Forbes Mill. We came in and were seated quickly. The waitress was nice, but drinks took a while and we didn't really receive the service we would typically see in a nicer steakhouse like this. The attentiveness just wasn't quite there. For dinner, my husband ordered the boneless ribeye and he said it was just okay. He said the demiglaze was a little too rich, and he didn't really love that about it. The cook was good on his. I ordered the filet mignon, which is always my go-to at a steakhouse. I ordered it medium, and it came so over cooked that it was stringy; it had the texture of a braised short rib. Absolutely zero pink in the middle at all. This was extremely disappointing. The loaded baked potato was really good, and the asparagus was enjoyable as well. Overall, with so many other restaurants around the area that are delicious for this price point, we probably would not make a second trip here. Bummer because we wanted to enjoy it!

Yelp
So excited to celebrate my 50th birthday here! We had reservations at 7pm and was immediately seated. We were given our menus and water promptly. It was a busy Friday night but our waiter didn't skip a beat. We order our drinks and meals. Three of us ordered the filet and one had the jambalaya. We ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms and Brussel sprouts. I enhanced my filet with blue cheese. Everything was incredible!! They even brought me out a little dessert with a candle. The upscale ambiance creates a fine dining experience. Excellent meal and I look forward to coming back for our next celebration!

Yelp
Truly a night to remember! We celebrated a friend's birthday here. I learned from other reviews that I could request customized menu for our group....they did not disappoint! See pics! I reserved on Open Table and requested a round table, they delivered. The restaurant did a wonderful job paying attention to detail and it made our celebration all the more special. The service was excellent! When I forgot my reading glasses for the menu she even offered a spare pair they had from the lost and found! I accepted and she let me borrow a sanitized pair of glasses...I was so impressed with the care our server gave us. The food was DELICIOUS! All positive comments from every dish we were served. Honestly, my only complaint was that I was too full! My short rib dish was delicious and very generous. This will be on our list of spots to celebrate our special occasions. The attention to detail, the excellent service and their delicious food made all the difference for us. A night to remember!

Yelp
Beast filet mignon I've ever had. 10/10 recommend! Also try the butter cake for dessert!

Yelp
3.5 STARS Date: Sunday, June 9th, 2024 Time: 5pm Party of: 6 Meal: early Father's Day Dinner Reservation Made: via OpenTable about 2+ weeks prior *Spring Rolls ($20) *Calamari ($19) *Crab Cakes ($21) x2 *Grazing Board ($30) *Caesar Salad ($12) x2 *French Onion ($14) x2 *Cowboy Ribeye ($69): add Scampi ($14) *Cowboy Ribeye ($69) *Cowboy Ribeye ($69): add Lobster ($49), Cognac Peppercorn ($3) *Sauteed Mushroom ($13) *Fresh Asparagus ($13) *8oz Prime Filet Mignon ($58) *Bread Pudding ($14) *Creme Brulee ($14) *Rye Manhattan ($17) *Ketel One Tonic ($13) *Grahams 20yr ($15) *Coffee ($4) *Pepsi ($4) *Corkage ($30) x2 My family lives in the East Bay, so when it comes time for family meals, I normally have to make the trek from SF. I've never been to this steakhouse, but I think my sis in law suggested it for dinner. It was easy making an online rezzie, so I don't think you need to do much planning when wanting to dine here. I'm going to preface this by saying I have been to a lot of steakhouse in all different prices ranges. A ribeye is normally my go to. The ones my dad and bro got looked good. But the one the hubby and I shared was very fatty and stringy. If I knew the meat was going to have pockets of fat and connective tissue in the middle, I probably would have order it medium as I actually like eating a little bit of fat if it's cooked. (I can feel my heart health going down as I say this.) But having my steak rare with all the fat wasn't very appetizing. My favs of the night were the mushrooms and asparagus. So much butter and flavor. Yum! And the caesar salad actually came with anchovy which I adore. The rest of the dishes were just okay. The crab cakes tasted better with the tartar from the calamari than the beurre blanc since it was too sweet. The french onion needed pepper and salt to balance the sweetness there as well. The grazing board had a bunch of cheese, and not that much in terms of meat. Also, came with saltines which is something I haven't been served with a charcuterie board before. Good thing about the sides for your steaks, you can swap them out. So I go the au gratin instead. That was creamy and delicious! The rye manhatann was solid. They made a good balanced cocktail. Our server was wonderful. There were some timing issues on the apps and mains, but honestly, we all did everything family style so it wasn't a big deal. We just needed more room on the table. Lol! (Our table was actually set for 7, so we really did get a lot of rood.) Nice place for an occasion type of meal as everything can add up quickly. REVIEW #3447

Yelp
We came to celebrate my mom's 69th birthday and when my wife made the reservation via Open Table, she noted my mom's names on the reservation. As expected, they printed "Happy Birthday Gina!" on the menu and the added touch make mama happy. Appetizers: Jumbo prawn cocktail Wedge salad French onion soup - it was so delicious and flavorful. Clam chowder Entrees and sides: Filet mignon came with mashed potatoes - tender Bone-in Ribeye came with Parmesan potato wedges - the ribeye was kind of tough... Cremini mushroom pasta - flavors were ok but the whole dish was just over drenched in pool of oil. We didn't touch this Brussels sprouts - good, crispy and lemony Mac and cheese - goodness Creamed spinach - green creamy goodness Desserts Tiramisu - wife is obsessed with this dessert and she said this wasn't her top but wasn't the worse either Butter cake - okay Overall, we had a great time with good food (skip the desserts) My wife also said she felt more genuine service here than at our recent dining experience at the Sea by Alexander's.

Yelp
This visit was short and sweet but inside the restaurant was so Dark, my eyes were like to adjust dimmer looking for lights, our server was good not to worry about. Our food the came bit pale I think do some garnish to add color, simple things that made mouth watering, example green onion on top my rice or parsley that's fine too . I had a thought to ordering lobster tail was good but I think better to steak it with

Yelp
A wonderful experience at Forbes Mill Steakhouse celebrating a friend's 40th birthday with about 22 guests. Room in the back was reserved and it was a good number for the size of the private room. Food was delicious from the appetizers to our entrees. My rib eye was perfectly cooked medium rare with a reduction that complimented the dish nicely. The appetizers of calamari, crab cake and egg roll were yummy but a bit skimpy...each guest was allowed half an egg roll (a bit laughable) and wasn't the chosen option. Still it was good. Our server, Eduardo was on point, friendly, true professional and accommodating requests and replenishing drinks without prompting. He made the evening enjoyable and memorable! Front desk was okay and needs a bit of work...they seemed more concerned with chatting than helping guests and directing them to the back. Minor issue but needs to be mentioned for constructive feedback. Overall, I recommend Forbes Mill Steakhouse for a special occasion as it's $$$$. If you're doing a private event, the coordinator will let you arrive 2 hours to add any decoration or set up. Flowers are always pretty but be sure to make arrangements with height so it's not lost in the room. Private lot available.

Yelp
Great local steak house. Reasonably affordable - side comes with a steak vs a la carte. Generally very elegant atmosphere although shocking to see many local male residents dressed in t shirts, shorts and tennis shoes ( Forbes Mill should expect collared shirts out of respect). We went with the shrimp cocktail and Cesar salad to start which were very good. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Wait staff was professional and attentive.

Yelp
Forbes Mill has become our go to restaurant when we want a really great steak dinner and for special occasions. I've been here many times over the years. My office had a holiday lunch here one year and my co-workers and I used to love coming here for their lunch specials, when they did lunches (pre-covid). Those lunch deals were really great. Hubby and I have also been here for dinner in the past. Our most recent visits were on New Year's Eve (hubby's bday) and last weekend (for our anniversary). Each visit we were greeted and wished Happy Birthday or Anniversary by the host staff. Upon being seated we found our menus also noted our special occasions. (Yes, I brought those pages home). The service was excellent. Friendly, helpful and on top of everything. On NYE we also brought our son and his girlfriend, who also were impressed with everything. The appetizers we've tried were the chicken spring rolls, spinach & artichoke dip as well as some oysters. All excellent. For salads we've had the wedge and baby spinach with beets. Yum. Dinners included the filet mignon, lobster, cowboy cut ribeye, blackened ribeye and surf & turf. Sides were loaded baked potatoes, au gratin potatoes, loaded mac & cheese (the best mac & cheese ever, we all agreed). Desserts included the lava cake-oh goodness, tiramisu, Kona coffee creme brulee, and the butter cake with strawberries. Needless to say, this really is at the top of our list for a special dinner. Every visit has been perfect.

Yelp
Booked a reservation for 2. Place is in Danville, one of the swankier parts of the bay area. Greeted immediately by host and were seated right away. Not a big menu which I was thankful for and the appetizers were excellent. Off menu was prime rib which I had and a loaded potato. Everything was perfect even the ambiance. Paid hefty but hey it's my birthday!

Yelp
Been awhile since I've been at a steakhouse so was looking forward to mouth watering steaks especially since this one had pretty good reviews. We were able to get settled at our table for drinks and decent bread. Since we came as a group, we decided to order a lot of sides to share family style. The sides were definitely amazing with the creamy mashed potatoes, rich au gratin, and delicious creamed spinach. Unfortunately the steaks themselves were a bit of a disappointment. We had two orders of the ribeye at medium rare and one of them was definitely undercooked perhaps due to a thicker cut. Both steaks still tasted a bit tough. We did have a kerwee filet too which was more tender. But... felt like steaks elsewhere hit the spot more.

Yelp
Dont do it! This place feels old and stale like the food they serve. We ordered the following: -Tuna appetizer- 3/5 it was prepared ahear of time and refrigerated. You could tell the tuna wasnt super fresh. Overall.. it was ok - Caesar salad- they opened a bag and served me whatever they could get out of it. Barely any dressing, so I guess the bottle ran out. Ive had better salads at Chik Fil A. - Steaks- I had the filet mignon with loaded potato. The filet was overcooked to the point that I think the cow died again. I ordered it medium and got a very well done steak. The steak tasted like a Texas Road House steak. For $60+ I expected more quality and flavor. Husband had the bone in rib eye and he had the same experience as me. The steak was $70+. -Dessert- Molten Lava Cake. Dont do it! Go to Chillis and order theirs! Overall this place is overpriced and the food doesnt meet the baseline expectations of a steakhouse that charges this much.

Yelp
It was my first time at Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Danville, where I celebrated a belated birthday for my son, who has been busy with school and work. As first-timers, we were fortunate to get everything we requested: a booth and the opportunity to try the A5 Wagyu. Our gracious server, INES, made the experience even better. Despite juggling multiple tables, she was attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. I was truly impressed with her service and attention to detail. The steak and seafood were both first-class. Upon returning home, I realized one simple side dish was not served. I called and informed Ines immediately, and despite her busy schedule, a manager called me regarding the issue. I highly recommend this place. You can find high-end food at other restaurants, but the service here is unmatched. Forbes Mill Steakhouse offers an amazing, elegant, and professional dining experience with high-quality food, and everyone is welcome!

Yelp
This is THE best steak house in if you're in the Tri-Valley area. Without going to San Francisco, you'd be hard pressed to find another establishment with the same service, food quality, and ambiance. If you're looking for a classic appetizer, don't miss the calamari. Lightly breaded and the sauces they serve it with are great! All the steaks are great, and I can't say enough about the flavor of the dry aged steak, but I recently had the blackened ahi tuna entree and it was delicious. It was perfectly cooked and served with a white rice topped with furikake that complemented it nicely. I had a great red with dinner, a 2022 Camus-Suisun "The Walking Fool". There's quite a selection of mixed drinks as well, which makes for a nice option. Don't skip the mezcal!

I was honestly torn between a 4 and 5, but decided to give them a 5 purely thanks to the amazing service we got while there. Let me just put this out there, I rarely drink. I just got my second drink, when I decided to dump it all over the table and my food. Yep, Mr Smooth. The waiter, who for the life of me I can't remember his name, helped me clean up, took away and re-plated all the food, and brought me another drink (I question the call, but here we are). But even before that, he was so extremely kind and took time to talk to us and help us pick out drinks and what to have for dinner. At the end, he remembered we were actually there for our third anniversary, and we were brought a little plate at the end with Happy Anniversary on it in coco power (see the pictures). Other than that, I liked the dark atmosphere, even if it was a bit loud. The streak was good quality and was cooked perfectly, and the brussels sprouts, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were all tasty. Make sure to ask for their fresh rolls too.

Yelp
Celebrated a birthday and it was definitely a treat! From the welcoming hostess and wait staff to the special touch of "Happy Birthday" on the menu, the ambience was set. Our meal was delicious, flavorful and prepared to perfection!

Yelp
Favorite steak and seafood place in the area. I've been here twice now. The most recent time I got the lobster cioppino which was delicious. They have a wide variety of cocktails and mocktails. This is a more formal restaurant and so I'd recommend dressing up. We made a reservation each time which id recommend because every table has always been filled. Service was great.

Yelp
Came here with my wife's family. Total of a party of 8. We were able to get reservations a couple of days prior for a Sunday. We noticed the restaurant was not busy, and was seated right away. We were promptly greeted by our waitress. All started well. Food was good and meat was tender. Towards the end of our meal, no one came to clear our plates and service started to slow to a crawl. Once our plates were finally cleared, we did get our dessert menus. Once we finished our dessert, we could not find our waitress, and noticed she was folding napkins. We finally got her attention to get our bill, as we were over 2 hours in now. Once she handed us the bill, she did not come back to take our payment. She went back to folding napkins. We ended up taking the bill up to the front desk ourselves to pay our bill. We didn't get a chance to lower our tip, as 18% is automatically added to the bill for service, which explains why they do not care to provide good service or not. Food I ordered: Wedge salad 4/5 - this was very good. Ordered it pre-chopped without issues. This had a little too much dressing. Australian Wagyu Filet Mignon with Potatoes Au Gratin 4/5 - Was really good, but nothing really special about it. It was just good. Butter cake with vanilla bean ice cream 4/5 - this was very good, lighter than I expected, while still being moist. Overall, food was good, but service was lacking. Seeing that the restaurant was not busy, I expected better service. It will be a while before we come back to this restaurant. LB Steakhouse in San Ramon offers much better service.

Yelp
Just a quick update because people are always so quick to write when things are negative, but never when they're positive. We went to Forbes again yesterday and as always, the food and service was top notch. However, I wanted to recognize the hostess, Sam. If I could give her 20 stars, I would. She was such a hard worker, but so kind, pleasant, friend, and caring with every single customer that came in. We waited a bit longer for our table because we requested a booth on our reservation and they had to wait for the tables to clear. She was constantly checking in, apologizing(even though it wasn't her fault), making conversation, and being super attentive, all while handling other customers, clearing tables, wiping down menus, and other jobs she is responsible for. Forbes Mills always delivers on service and food and we always enjoy going there, whether it's a special occasion or a spontaneous trip!

Yelp
Came here on Sunday for happy hour. We ordered crab cakes sliders with fries, beef teriyaki kebabs and Brussels sprouts. All were fantastic! I ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc and it was crisp and smooth. I can't wait to come back and try more items on the happy hour menu. Service was excellent.

Yelp
We planned my mother in laws 70th birthday for a group of 13. They already had the back room scheduled for another party, but were able to still accommodate us in the main dining area. It was a delightful dinner and the staff was great. The food is always delicious here and affordable for a steak dinner.

Yelp
Private room setting for a Client Appreciation Dinner and although the food was great and tasty, I cannot say enough about the staff. Names that come to mind are Aaron & Manny. Courteous, professional and kind. Service goes a long way in my book, sometimes beyond my actual meal. Thankfully, I can say both were great and deserved to be mentioned. Lastly my Dirty Martini was lovely after I asked for it to be a little dirtier, and I only needed one.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance and service. Love the beef/Steak - best steak around Bay Area so far. Would definitely recommend to all.

Yelp
We booked the private room at Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Danville for a special celebration with 20 guests, expecting a high-end experience. What we got instead was one of the most disappointing and frustrating dining experiences we've ever had. They promised $50 worth of appetizers per guest--so naturally, we expected a generous spread. What they gave us? Three tiny plates of what they called "charcuterie" and a small dish of calamari with shrimp. That's it. For twenty people. It was insulting. Then came the salad, if you can even call it that. It tasted bizarre--completely off--and the portion barely covered a quarter of the plate. A huge plate with a sad little handful of greens. It looked and tasted like an afterthought. Shockingly, they only assigned ONE server to the entire room. Just one. She was clearly overwhelmed, and while she did her best, there was no way she could handle a party of 20 on her own. That's a complete failure on management's part and it set the tone for the rest of the night. Now for the main course--the part you'd think a "steakhouse" would nail. Wrong. They didn't even ask how we wanted our steaks cooked. They just asked what cut we wanted, and that was that. What kind of steakhouse doesn't ask about doneness? When the food arrived, we were stunned. The steaks were dry, flavorless, and so small you'd get a bigger cut at a casual diner. The chicken was drenched in oil--completely unappetizing. Each entree came with one sad scoop of mashed potatoes. That's it. No vegetables. No garnish. Just a huge empty plate with a tiny piece of meat and one spoonful of mash. When we asked for another side, we were told it would cost extra. Are you serious? The entire experience felt like a scam. Terrible service, mismanaged staffing, horrible food, and portions that were beyond stingy. This wasn't just a bad dinner--it ruined a night we were all looking forward to. Forbes Mill should be ashamed to call itself a fine dining establishment. Save yourself the money, time, and frustration. Go anywhere else. This place is a joke.

Yelp
I found this place to have better steak than Ruth Chris and Flemings. Their filet was cooked perfectly! They also had an excellent coffee creme brulee. I came here by myself and the place was crowded. Mostly couples I saw but it was a good atmosphere and good environment.

Yelp
5 stars for the service and ambiance but last night for my birthday dinner 2 out of the 4 meals were not good. Started off with the calamari and dynamite shrimp. The calamari wasn't crunchy like usual (3rd time ordering it) and wasn't up to my standard. Dynamite shrimp was alright but nothing really stood out in terms of flavor. My dad ordered the special: filet mignon and scallops which was cooked to perfection. My sister ordered the Australian filet mignon and she loved it along with her scalloped potatoes. My mom decided to order something out of the norm: blackened ribeye. Let me tell you this steak was sooooo salty and over flavored with so much seasoning. She took a few bites and said she couldn't eat it. I usually get this when I come so I tried it and I agree it was horrible. I decided to give the short rib a try and let me tell you it was the driest piece of meat I ever had in my life. I was expecting fall of the bone no knife needed short rib, but this was absolutely disappointing. My knife had a hard time making it through. I didn't finish my 46$ short rib either. Hard pass. The desserts were ok, pretty basic for a high end restaurant. The coffee crème brûlée was delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. All in all this last visit left a salty dry taste in my mouth. I will have to go back to my default steakhouse when I'm out this way until I feel up to trying this spot out again :(

Yelp
My fiancé and I went for our first time this evening to celebrate an early birthday dinner. Our waitress Amy was great and the food was amazing! We got the filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and a side of Brussel sprouts and the chicken with a side of the loaded Mac n cheese- all fantastic! My steak was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was also very nice and romantic with the lighting. Highly recommend and we will be back!

Yelp
I would not recommend Forbes Mill for a special dinner. Reservations made online and confirmed for 2 for a birthday dinner. Arrived 15 mins early. While walking in we receive a notice from the restaurant our reservation was canceled? The hostess confirm while looking confused at her computer that " somehow" our reservation was canceled by us. Then why would we be there? Perhaps she somehow unintentionally canceled our reservation, sorta like she forgot to put on her bra with her white tank top. Seemed unprofessional with her attire. She informed us that someone else had taken our dinning room table within two minutes of us being there and offered us a table outside or bar area. Definitely a rough start to a special dinner. Beware the outside patio overlooks the beautiful active construction site and porta potties. The food was 4 out of 10 steak was dry and over cooked. The appetizer was forgotten. I will say the service was lovely, bussers and waitress were very friendly and worked hard. They were the ONLY good thing experienced.

Yelp
Forbes Mill has the best steaks in Northern CA, they are juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection. My wife and I were please with the service and the quality of food. So, if your looking for a good steak, and are tired of those though steaks those other high end restaurants serve you, try Forbes Mill, you won't be disappointed as your tongue slaps your face for the next bite.

Yelp
Good food, a bit pricey, but the quality and ambiance is what you're paying for. I had the Big Eye Tuna, wife had the lobster- both absolutely delicious! Plates were clean by the time we left.

Yelp
Had a 6:30pm reservation. We arrived early and thought we would go to the bar. They were able to seat us early. I ordered the prickly pear margarita it was excellent. Dinner i ordered the fillet mignon medium rare and a side of Brussels sprouts. Both were outstanding. My husband ordered the barreled aged "just say no" drink it was excellent Dinner he ordered the prime blackened ribeye and a side of mushrooms. He said it was good but the fillet mignon was the better choice. We also ordered the butter cake and coffee it was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. We will return. Service was excellent. Ambiance was wonderful.

Yelp
This was the best steakhouse I've been to and I've tried all the fancy steakhouses in SF . The prime rib was excellent. My rare blackened ribeye was cooked perfectly rare. The French onion soup was comforting. The bread rolls were so good we asked for more. Wife's beet salad was the best she ever had. And the winner was the lowly mashed potatoes which we talked about for a couple of days afterwards. Nice they gave us a beautiful anniversary dessert to make it even nicer!
