A Lawsuit Could Derail One of the Biggest Players in the American Liquor Industry - Eater SF

"After two potential customers did a 180 when walking into Forbes Mill Steakhouse, ownership decided it was time to freshen up the place. The Mercury News reports the restaurant and bar, which opened in 2003, has undergone several big improvements that culminated this month." - Paolo Bicchieri

A good but not great steakhouse. Friendly but slow service. Cocktails took a long time to arrive. They ran out of baked and mashed potatoes, which can happen, but it pretty rare for a steak restaurant. Salads and soup great. The GM was exceptional reccomending wine, but again took a long to get the bottle. He decanted the wine which is a rarity in most restaurants. Steak was good but again not exceptional. The extra cost bearnaise sauce was white and tasted more like mayonnaise.

This is a wonderful steak restaurant. It was our anniversary, and they took the time to make a special anniversary menu with our names on it, and made us a complimentary dessert. The wait staff (especially Tony) was extremely attentive, informative, and engaging. He even took the time to take our pictures to memorialize our event. Other staff also helped us, suggesting desserts, as well as just engaging in friendly conversation. They seated a few of us, who were celebrating anniversaries, in the same vicinity, so the mood was very festive all around. Now, about the food. It was delicious. My steak was perfectly cooked, and my dates beef short ribs were also delicious. The sides were really good too. Everything was perfect.

We made reservations at 7pm on a weekend and the parking lot was pretty crowded. When we entered, it is a lower lit spot with a celebratory feeling. Started with the pear gorgonzola salad which was simple but enjoyable. We said we were sharing so they helped split it for us. I had the cowboy ribeye medium rare and it was cooked right. I changed the side to creamed spinach. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday boy got his dessert before we got our dessert menu. Didn’t stop me from trying the tiramisu.

I ordered a Tomahawk steak, and it was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. The staff were friendly and caring, and their service was exceptional and thoughtful. It’s a perfect place for a date with family, friends, or loved ones.

Excellent ribeye steak cooked to perfection. Best French onion soup is the best in my experience.

Another celebratory dinner! Another awesome meal with excellent service. It wasn't super crowded when we came but reservations are a must as it was pretty busy. The meat was cooked perfectly and the flavors were excellent. Passed on desert as the mains left me full. The old fashioned was ok... Not the best and not the worst. I have explored this side of the bay too much, so I can't compare it with the other venues yet

Google
Great Place with some great food! I was only in for a quick meal at the bar which consisted of a wedge salad and Parmesan wedges but both of those items were delicious! Crispy lettuce smothered with bacon, cherry tomatoes, red onions and blue cheese! Very tasty! The garlic Parmesan wedges were also very tasty however they were heavy on the garlic which if I ordered them again, I would ask for light garlic. I love garlic but these were a bit heavy on it. Further, the wedges was basically just a quartered potato. Definitely worth a taste!! Lastly, the bar tender was super nice, helpful, and had amazing customer service!

Yelp
Went here for my sisters birthday. They made it so special by customizing the menu to say happy birthday to her and bringing out a little happy birthday treat. Food was good, service was great- attentive and knowledgeable. The Resturant was like every classic steakhouse with lots of wood and dim lighting- total vibe! Definitely check it out.

Yelp
My husband and I had heard good things about Forbes and it's been around for so long that we finally sent the kids off with the parents and had a much needed date night. The ambience is fancy but it seems a little too dark, unnecessarily dark. The service is fantastic as expected for the price point. We both got drinks and they were good. The calamari was good, not the best I've had but definitely solid. Here's where the loss of stars comes in. We both ordered dry aged New York steak and I didn't realize until the next day when we tried the leftovers that only my husbands had been dry aged. The taste was so different and his was so much better. I felt completely robbed by this mistake. It didn't help that the dry aged is also more expensive and I got the wet aged cheaper one but still paid for the dry aged. At this price point, mistakes of this magnitude do not seem acceptable. Even though the food was good, this left such a bad impression on me that I feel I never want to go back. Getting a date night isn't easy for us so I am severely disappointed. I sent an email to the Forbes contact email (not asking for a refund or anything) just to notify them of the mistake and disappointment and never heard anything back.

Yelp
For starters we went with the garlic Parmesan seasoned Fried Calamari. This appetizer was AMAZING! Me and my wife then split a cowboy cut 20oz bone in ribeye and the shrimp scampi. The shrimp were massive! The steak was delicious and so tasty. They split the dishes for us which was so kind. But let me tell you the star of the show! The butter cake was nice and warm and moist with the gelato vanilla ice cream on top! WOW! A few complaints were that the restaurant was distractingly loud. Also, the parking was very bad. All in all the food more than made up for the parking and noise level. We will be coming back.

Yelp
Back again for another great dinner. This time for oysters, salads and filet mignons. Thank you for attentive service and perfectly cooks steaks. Oh and for peppercorn sauce!

Yelp
Food was good, well cooked. Service was fast and checked in on us often. Great for date night or celebrations! Would recommend if you want to make a good impression, will visit again! Thank you!

Yelp
Always great food, good drinks, and excellent service! I went here with the family for my sons 16th birthday is was expectional. Always ask for the bread! It's soo good! We had some great apps i recommend the Calamari although I didn't get a picture. Don't skip the Filet, just get it. It never fails and is always perfect! The jambalaya was good if you enjoy fish. I ordered shirt ribs but they were out!! Early dinners get first dibs! We will be back. They made my son feel so special with personalized menus and a nice big table in the back dinning area. The ambiance in the main sitting area is a best and request in a booth is ideal!

Yelp
solid steak and great service. Upscale environment, but the steak itself was a little underwhelming as compared to LB or a similar type place. Shared oysters with a group as well as a few other apps- everything was very tasty. Steak- got a ribeye, Oscar style. It was good but felt like it could have used a tougher sear. There wasn't much crab on top of it either. Didnt get dessert, but had a cocktail and they opened our wine for us. Nice place to go, but I think there are better steakhouses around.

Yelp
We liked our first experience back in Aug when we celebrated my birthday (2 people), and I was hoping to experience the great experience again for his birthday yesterday. Unfortunately, both foods and services fell short. We were party of 7. One guest's steak was undercooked (ordered medium rare and got a moo-ing rare). One's was overcooked/burnt, and I didn't appreciate the fact they tried to conceal it by showing the un-burnt side. My sister tasted the bitterness, and she flipped the steal... that was when the black charcoaled side was revealed. Service was also mediocre- I gave them benefits of the doubt because it was busy night. However, party of 6+ get default 20% service charge, so maybe there wasn't a need to try to impress us. Overall, I felt bad for hosting his birthday there because my guests were not impressed.

Yelp
This interview is long overdue. I was here recently on 2 occasions, Mother's Day and a Retirement Celebration for my dad. Both times we were lucky enough to have Danielle as our server. I have to say that I personally loved the service. We had such a good time that moving forward we will be asking to be seated in Danielle's section as she gives excellent service and is genuinely happy! We were seated a bit early at 4 PM and it was nice and quiet both times. The food was amazing from beginning to end. My dad is someone who likes to salt everything and during both visits to FM he didn't salt anything and said that it was very seasoned and flavorful, as is. Usually my dad complains about everything. But on these 2 occasions, he did not. Lol. Both experiences were 5 stars, easy. Thank you, Danielle, for giving us such a grand experience! We look forward to seeing you again next time!

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot! I took my fiancee here to celebrate his promotion and it was the perfect ambiance. We celebrated on a Thursday night, and tables were full. Luckily we did have a reservation so we didn't have to wait to be seated. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Mac and Cheese- Loaded : Let me just say... this is probably one of the best Mac & Cheeses' i've ever had. The hot links gives it a kick so if you can't handle spice, i don't recommend. The Mac and Cheese was so creamy and flavorful, i highly recommend trying ! Calamari was delicious as well. Fried and seasoned well. Calamari is usually our go to appetizer so i don't think it was the best i've ever had, but it was still very good. It came with the traditional sauces: tartar and marinara. Both sauces were good. Brussel Sprouts: You can't tell in the photo but the brussel sprouts are pretty big in size. I prefer mine more bite size, but they were seasoned well. It had a nice sweetness and a bit charred. But not too carred where it tastes burnt. For my entree, i ordered the Prime Blackened Ribeye- Medium. It was cooked just the way i liked it and the crispy onions on top were to die for. It came with a side of mashed potatoes but they were pretty plain. It was creamy and smooth but lacked flavor. Despite this, the steak had great seasoning and flavor and complimented well with the mashed potatoes. As for the cocktails, all of them were pretty strong. I didn't love any of them, but they weren't terrible either.

Yelp
Honestly super disappointed in this meal we had last night for our 25th anniversary. I ordered the wagyu filet mignon medium rare Oscar style, which is asparagus, hollandaise, and crab. The filet itself was $88. The Oscar style side was $18. It was literally three asparagus spears and a tablespoon of dry, hard, overcooked crusty crab. The steak was cooked well done. I ordered medium rare! Not good at all. You can tell from my picture of the sliced meat, how overcooked and dry and un-tender looking it was. I kept waiting for the waitress to ask how everything was but she did not ask and had she have asked I would have told her that my food was extremely overcooked. My partner ordered the prime rib special and he said it was good but very chewy. On top of that, I took my food home to go because I wasn't happy with it. And they packed it up, but they did not include my asparagus that I only ate half of and they did not include the two sides of sauce that came with the meal that I hadn't even touched. This was our first time at the restaurant, so I can't say it left much of a great impression. The girl who welcomed us when we first came in, was very nice. Wished us a happy anniversary right off the bat and was talkative and informative. She told us the hostess would be right with us. The hostess came to seat us and I don't think she said one word to us. Not very engaging from a hostess standpoint. When you're coming to a high-end restaurant, there should be a level of customer service that was definitely lacking. Plus sides, the waitress was very friendly, although she could've been a little bit more attentive. The restaurant itself is very pretty. I loved the dim lighting and sparkly lights. But the seat we sat in, was very drafty and we were quite chilly. It was nice that they put happy 25th anniversary inside the menu and gave us an anniversary dessert. And also the skinny margaritas were excellent!

Yelp
5 stars plus dining experience. Party of 5 for a birthday dinner. We arrive at 5:50, 10 minutes before our reservation. We were seated promptly. Our server was Amy, she was very polite, professional and had lots of good recommendations. She gave us plenty of time to look through the menu and drink lists. She answered all the questions that we had, and brought complementary bread that we asked for. All of our cocktails were delicious , I enjoyed the Poma Sutra. The food was delicious, all the steaks were cooked perfectly to everyone everyone's liking. The macaroni and cheese was actually really good and I'm not used to saying that about restaurant macaroni and cheese. The mashed potatoes and gravy was also really yummy as well. The blueberry cheesecake was divine and I wish I would've ordered more to go home We would definitely be back for another experience, hopefully sooner than later.

Yelp
I went here to celebrate my birthday and it was amazing! The food was delicious and the service and ambiance was great. Me and my partner decided that this place will now be our Restaurant for our celebratory dinnes. We cant wait to come back!

Yelp
We went for a birthday dinner. Surf & Turf, Australian Wagyu, Grass Fed Filet Mignon X 2 are what we ordered as entrees which were great, so were the drinks, appetizers and desserts we ordered. Service was mostly great except we had to wait 15-minutes for our credit card to be taken and then to pay. The check was higher person than we expected at $160/person for our comprehensive meal, but it was worth it. I liked the food so much that I've been there twice this month!

Yelp
We celebrated our 4-year anniversary at Forbes Mill last night and had a positive experience. While it's a traditional steakhouse, it still felt modern and upscale. The restaurant is conveniently located right next to Piatti's with a sizeable plaza parking lot. We were seated in a booth that fits 2 and enjoyed an appetizer, a steak with 2 sides, and finished with 2 desserts. Prices are as expected for this type of establishment and service was appropriate as well. We asked for our steak to be served medium and it came out almost rare and pretty cold. It promptly came back perfectly medium and hot off the grill. This was not the best steak I've ever had, but it was good- especially for a local establishment. If you're looking for a traditional steakhouse dinner for a special occasion, Forbes Mill would be a reliable option. - fried calamari: super light and tasty. Would get this again. - cowboy bone in ribeye: tender, but I wish it was a thicker steak with a crispier and more salty crust. - fries: just okay. Cold and bland. I would pass on these next time. - loaded mac and cheese: so unique. I've never seen anything like this on the menu before. It was loaded with hot links, jalapeños, and bacon- we wiped it clean. - chocolate torte: this was fine and very sweet of them to offer for our anniversary celebration. - butter cake: very, very good. I'd definitely get this again. Super moist butter cake with a memorably delicious vanilla gelato on top.

Yelp
We went to Forbes to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was a Monday so we didn't need reservations. My kids both ordered the kid's cheeseburger with fries. They loved the fries and liked the slider/cheeseburger. My wife got the filet mignon and thought it was very good. It came with mashed potatoes. The portion looked on the small side for her dish. I ordered the blackened salmon. It was very tasty and tender, but the buttery sauce could be improved. The rice was plain and could have used something to make it tastier. Update: We went for our wedding anniversary last night. My wife ordered the Maine lobster tail (shell removed by the server) and liked it. I ordered the jambalaya and loved it! It came with prawns, scallops, sausage, chicken, and veggies and was easily the best jambalaya I've ever eaten! We'll definitely return for this dish again.

Yelp
We came here for a wedding anniversary party. Everything was very delicous. Service was extremely attentive and friendly. Aaron was very professional and gave us an exceptional experience. This was our first time at Forbes. The ribeye cowboy cut was so delicious! Will definitely come back again. Parking was plentiful. Can be hard during weekend nights but can park further away. The ambiance was very nice. Can be both casual or dressed up.

Yelp
Forbes is always a treat! We booked a reservation here for Valentine's Day about three months in advance. Forbes always book out quickly for special occasions. Their service and food are always on point. Our visit was no different. We were seated quickly after checking in with the host. Almost like our table was already assigned upon arrival - loved that! Our server came by quickly and greeted us right away. We brought a wine bottle to cork and he noticed right away and asked us about cocktails and wine. We asked about any special cocktails for Valentine's Day and he went over the drinks for the special day. After looking over the wine and cocktail menus, we decided to stick with our wine we brought - 2019 Flowers Pinot, one of our favorite bottles. The server went over some food recommendations and answered some of our questions about their filet. We placed our order shortly after. Restaurant was dimmed and a romantic ambiance. Table area and floor was clean and neat. Restroom was clean. Service and food was in incredible. We were so happy with everything - we ordered a lot of food. One person with us has never been to Forbes and was truly impressed and happy with their experience. If you haven't tried Forbes yet, you need to put them on your list. It's a great treat for any day, especially for special occasions. After paying, they brought us two beautiful roses for my daughter and myself :) What we ordered: French onion soup Oysters Bread and butter Prime filet mignon Ribeye w/ add-on scallops and garlic mashed potatoes Halibut w/ crab, asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes Side mac and cheese Side sautéed mushroom Side potato wedges Butter cake w/ vanilla bean gelato Flourless chocolate torte

Yelp
Met some friends here last night for the first time. The restaurant is near downtown Danville and had plenty of parking. Once inside, I liked the decor and its dimmed lighting. The restaurant was a bit noisy which made having a conversation with your party difficult....not sure what can be done about that, maybe add some noise soaker to its ceiling. Our waiter was friendly, but he needed a bit more training. He was all over the place with taking our order. While taking appetizer orders, he also took a dinner order from one of our friends who thought the rest of us were doing the same. Once we found out what had just happened, we called the waiter back and had to tell him to delay our friend's dinner order until we were all ready to order dinner. For an upscaled restaurant like this, the waiter should have caught this mistake and informed our friend that the rest of us was ordering appetizers. Now with the food, everything was pricey. My order of Bay House Scallops was $48. For that price, I got 4 small scallops that were overcooked. It also came with 4 very skinny asparagus stalks and a cup of white plain rice that was dried like it had been sitting out. No plating at all. It looked like something a home cook put together. My French onion soup was good, but it was the HOTEST soup I have ever had. It literally burned the roof of my mouth. Also, my wife was asked 3 different times by the waiting staff in a matter of 2 minutes if she was done with her soup, which she told them each time that she was still working on it....this was annoying! I am usually not a critical diner but when a restaurant like this thinks they can overcharge their customers with little efforts I have to speak out. Overall, this is an overpriced place with underwhelming food and services. This restaurant has the potential to be great but major changes have to be made.

Yelp
The blackened Riley was excellent and Danielle provided excellent service. She was kind, attentive and thoughtful. Would definitely recommend Forbes

Yelp
An excellent steakhouse. I'm usually a ribeye guy, but I wasn't given that option so I had the filet. Surprisingly, it was delicious. It wasn't dry. I think I got a fatty filet or something because it was juicy and flavorful. I love it. The salad was great, but a bit too sour for my taste. I didn't have their sides or dessert. Their service was excellent and the place was pretty busy. I would definitely come back and have their ribeye next time. I highly recommend this restaurant. For Thinsulin fans, there's plenty of green light options.

Yelp
Review #846 Posted on 1.1.25 We came here for our annual friends steakhouse holiday dinner on Saturday night December 28th. This spot is located in Danville right next to the Sycamore Valley exit off of 680. They've got a couple cuts of filet, bone-In Ribeye, Dry aged New York all to choose from with some classic seafood options to top them with. I actually went down the menu and grabbed the 14 oz Blackened Ribeye, which came with blue cheese butter, carmelized onions, & mash. It was an excellent cut of meat. My son also ordered the blackened ribeye, his cooked good as well. My daughter got the filet medium, but it had no pink inside. Service was very good, they were attentive, and on top of things. I believe corking fee is $35 here if you bring your own bottles of wine.

Yelp
‍ We came to Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Danville to celebrate something special, and the entire experience was perfect from start to finish. We split the cowboy-cut bone-in ribeye cooked medium-rare+, along with a classic wedge salad and the garlic wedges. Steak was cooked beautifully and the wedges were crispy and yummy. He ordered a double Crown on the rocks, I had a margarita, and both drinks were spot-on. For dessert, the lava cake (my favorite!) and the pumpkin cheesecake for him were incredible. They even wrote "Congratulations" on the plate, which made the night feel extra thoughtful and memorable. Huge shoutout to our server, Sam. She was so sweet, positive, and genuinely friendly...her energy made the whole meal even better. Great experience all around. Highly recommend and ask for Sam

Yelp
I came here with my wife for our 3 year wedding anniversary dinner. I heard great things about this place so I had high expectations. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and the service was really good. Most importantly the food was delicious. Probably the best steak I've had in the Bay Area. The side and steak was delicious and was served hot. I'll certainly be back.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday evening with some family. Place looks really classy and the service is top-notch. However, the food as well. This place kind of fell flat at $60-$100 a plate. They have a great wine list on a tablet which explains each wine to help you make a decision which I've only seen at a few other establishments so that's a nice touch. The desserts tasted like they came straight from Safeway, so maybe don't get those. Overall, not a horrible place but not an amazing place to drop $309 to $400.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. It is a quiet restaurant and they were able to accommodate last minute dinner for 10 people. The ribeye is delicious and cooked as expected. Others raved that the bone-in ribeye with scallops were delicious. Our waitress was able to pair our dinner with a delicious local wine. Definitely would come back.

Yelp
My hubby and I were super excited to try Forbes Mill. We came in and were seated quickly. The waitress was nice, but drinks took a while and we didn't really receive the service we would typically see in a nicer steakhouse like this. The attentiveness just wasn't quite there. For dinner, my husband ordered the boneless ribeye and he said it was just okay. He said the demiglaze was a little too rich, and he didn't really love that about it. The cook was good on his. I ordered the filet mignon, which is always my go-to at a steakhouse. I ordered it medium, and it came so over cooked that it was stringy; it had the texture of a braised short rib. Absolutely zero pink in the middle at all. This was extremely disappointing. The loaded baked potato was really good, and the asparagus was enjoyable as well. Overall, with so many other restaurants around the area that are delicious for this price point, we probably would not make a second trip here. Bummer because we wanted to enjoy it!

Yelp
So excited to celebrate my 50th birthday here! We had reservations at 7pm and was immediately seated. We were given our menus and water promptly. It was a busy Friday night but our waiter didn't skip a beat. We order our drinks and meals. Three of us ordered the filet and one had the jambalaya. We ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms and Brussel sprouts. I enhanced my filet with blue cheese. Everything was incredible!! They even brought me out a little dessert with a candle. The upscale ambiance creates a fine dining experience. Excellent meal and I look forward to coming back for our next celebration!

Yelp
Took my mom here for her birthday dinner and Ed was a GREAT waiter. He was attentive and helpful to situations in which the food was not great. Oysters were a delicious start to the meal. We ordered the classic New England clam chowder and surprised to find carrots in it (we wouldn't have ordered it if we knew since I'm allergic to carrots). I ordered the filet and scallops which was one of the specials and unfortunately the scallops were overcooked and way too chewy. They provided my mom with a surprise birthday dessert which was so cute. Overall good dinner.

Yelp
I ordered the filet and scampi dinner and it was wonderful. The steak was cooked to perfection, the prawns were so tasty, and I substituted the mashed potatoes for scalloped potatoes and I am so glad I did because they were delicious! The service awas amazing! The ambiance was nice, but just a tad bit too dark for me. I will definitely be back soon.

Yelp
We were a group of 5 today and were sitting out as we had a dog , The great service provided by Ines made the evening special . The calamari was especially amazing ! My jambalaya was very good but needed more spice crawfish and okra but all in all excellent meal and service

Yelp
3.5 STARS Date: Sunday, June 9th, 2024 Time: 5pm Party of: 6 Meal: early Father's Day Dinner Reservation Made: via OpenTable about 2+ weeks prior *Spring Rolls ($20) *Calamari ($19) *Crab Cakes ($21) x2 *Grazing Board ($30) *Caesar Salad ($12) x2 *French Onion ($14) x2 *Cowboy Ribeye ($69): add Scampi ($14) *Cowboy Ribeye ($69) *Cowboy Ribeye ($69): add Lobster ($49), Cognac Peppercorn ($3) *Sauteed Mushroom ($13) *Fresh Asparagus ($13) *8oz Prime Filet Mignon ($58) *Bread Pudding ($14) *Creme Brulee ($14) *Rye Manhattan ($17) *Ketel One Tonic ($13) *Grahams 20yr ($15) *Coffee ($4) *Pepsi ($4) *Corkage ($30) x2 My family lives in the East Bay, so when it comes time for family meals, I normally have to make the trek from SF. I've never been to this steakhouse, but I think my sis in law suggested it for dinner. It was easy making an online rezzie, so I don't think you need to do much planning when wanting to dine here. I'm going to preface this by saying I have been to a lot of steakhouse in all different prices ranges. A ribeye is normally my go to. The ones my dad and bro got looked good. But the one the hubby and I shared was very fatty and stringy. If I knew the meat was going to have pockets of fat and connective tissue in the middle, I probably would have order it medium as I actually like eating a little bit of fat if it's cooked. (I can feel my heart health going down as I say this.) But having my steak rare with all the fat wasn't very appetizing. My favs of the night were the mushrooms and asparagus. So much butter and flavor. Yum! And the caesar salad actually came with anchovy which I adore. The rest of the dishes were just okay. The crab cakes tasted better with the tartar from the calamari than the beurre blanc since it was too sweet. The french onion needed pepper and salt to balance the sweetness there as well. The grazing board had a bunch of cheese, and not that much in terms of meat. Also, came with saltines which is something I haven't been served with a charcuterie board before. Good thing about the sides for your steaks, you can swap them out. So I go the au gratin instead. That was creamy and delicious! The rye manhatann was solid. They made a good balanced cocktail. Our server was wonderful. There were some timing issues on the apps and mains, but honestly, we all did everything family style so it wasn't a big deal. We just needed more room on the table. Lol! (Our table was actually set for 7, so we really did get a lot of rood.) Nice place for an occasion type of meal as everything can add up quickly. REVIEW #3447

Yelp
I was just in Forbes Mill - and I was not overly impressed. The ambiance is definitely that of a high end steakhouse. It was a nice place. I was in a party of 7 and it wasn't that busy that the waitress couldn't keep an eye on our drinks. We were doing soft drinks, so it shouldn't be that hard to refill them. So the overall service was ok. Nothing amazing. As for the food, I had a bone-in ribeye. It was 20 oz. 2-3 oz was for the bone. And then I had about 4-5 oz of fat cap around my ribeye. I know ribeyes have some fat around them, but in a good steak joint, that much fat should have been trimmed and not counted for total weight. And I paid top dollar for it, and left completely underwhelmed. Stick to the filet. A bit smaller than the ribeye but at least that was extremely tender. I also had a small bowl of French Onion Soup. Rich tasty broth... was it worth $15. No. A lot of this place you're paying for some reason, either the area or the impression it is supposed to leave you, Again, overall it was decent to good but not worth the price. And I don't mind paying for quality, if it's there but this place was not impressive at all.

Yelp
We came to celebrate my mom's 69th birthday and when my wife made the reservation via Open Table, she noted my mom's names on the reservation. As expected, they printed "Happy Birthday Gina!" on the menu and the added touch make mama happy. Appetizers: Jumbo prawn cocktail Wedge salad French onion soup - it was so delicious and flavorful. Clam chowder Entrees and sides: Filet mignon came with mashed potatoes - tender Bone-in Ribeye came with Parmesan potato wedges - the ribeye was kind of tough... Cremini mushroom pasta - flavors were ok but the whole dish was just over drenched in pool of oil. We didn't touch this Brussels sprouts - good, crispy and lemony Mac and cheese - goodness Creamed spinach - green creamy goodness Desserts Tiramisu - wife is obsessed with this dessert and she said this wasn't her top but wasn't the worse either Butter cake - okay Overall, we had a great time with good food (skip the desserts) My wife also said she felt more genuine service here than at our recent dining experience at the Sea by Alexander's.

Yelp
Truly a night to remember! We celebrated a friend's birthday here. I learned from other reviews that I could request customized menu for our group....they did not disappoint! See pics! I reserved on Open Table and requested a round table, they delivered. The restaurant did a wonderful job paying attention to detail and it made our celebration all the more special. The service was excellent! When I forgot my reading glasses for the menu she even offered a spare pair they had from the lost and found! I accepted and she let me borrow a sanitized pair of glasses...I was so impressed with the care our server gave us. The food was DELICIOUS! All positive comments from every dish we were served. Honestly, my only complaint was that I was too full! My short rib dish was delicious and very generous. This will be on our list of spots to celebrate our special occasions. The attention to detail, the excellent service and their delicious food made all the difference for us. A night to remember!

Yelp
This is my go to steakhouse in the Tri Valley. A large group of us went to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. The service is always on point - they are always attentive, kind and helpful. Most of our dishes were perfectly seasoned and cooked. There were two ribeyes that were a bit overly salty but overall cooked well. I appreciate that most of their dishes come with at least one side unlike other locations where you must order all sides separately. They also brought out a nice dessert for our birthday girl to enjoy with 6 spoons! For the price it is definitely worth going. In my top 3 steakhouses and I've eaten at many of the other high end chains.

Yelp
A wonderful experience at Forbes Mill Steakhouse celebrating a friend's 40th birthday with about 22 guests. Room in the back was reserved and it was a good number for the size of the private room. Food was delicious from the appetizers to our entrees. My rib eye was perfectly cooked medium rare with a reduction that complimented the dish nicely. The appetizers of calamari, crab cake and egg roll were yummy but a bit skimpy...each guest was allowed half an egg roll (a bit laughable) and wasn't the chosen option. Still it was good. Our server, Eduardo was on point, friendly, true professional and accommodating requests and replenishing drinks without prompting. He made the evening enjoyable and memorable! Front desk was okay and needs a bit of work...they seemed more concerned with chatting than helping guests and directing them to the back. Minor issue but needs to be mentioned for constructive feedback. Overall, I recommend Forbes Mill Steakhouse for a special occasion as it's $$$$. If you're doing a private event, the coordinator will let you arrive 2 hours to add any decoration or set up. Flowers are always pretty but be sure to make arrangements with height so it's not lost in the room. Private lot available.

Yelp
I ordered a Tomahawk steak, and it was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. The staff were friendly and caring, and their service was exceptional and thoughtful. It's a perfect place for a date with family, friends, or loved ones.

Yelp
This visit was short and sweet but inside the restaurant was so Dark, my eyes were like to adjust dimmer looking for lights, our server was good not to worry about. Our food the came bit pale I think do some garnish to add color, simple things that made mouth watering, example green onion on top my rice or parsley that's fine too . I had a thought to ordering lobster tail was good but I think better to steak it with

Yelp
Forbes Mill has become our go to restaurant when we want a really great steak dinner and for special occasions. I've been here many times over the years. My office had a holiday lunch here one year and my co-workers and I used to love coming here for their lunch specials, when they did lunches (pre-covid). Those lunch deals were really great. Hubby and I have also been here for dinner in the past. Our most recent visits were on New Year's Eve (hubby's bday) and last weekend (for our anniversary). Each visit we were greeted and wished Happy Birthday or Anniversary by the host staff. Upon being seated we found our menus also noted our special occasions. (Yes, I brought those pages home). The service was excellent. Friendly, helpful and on top of everything. On NYE we also brought our son and his girlfriend, who also were impressed with everything. The appetizers we've tried were the chicken spring rolls, spinach & artichoke dip as well as some oysters. All excellent. For salads we've had the wedge and baby spinach with beets. Yum. Dinners included the filet mignon, lobster, cowboy cut ribeye, blackened ribeye and surf & turf. Sides were loaded baked potatoes, au gratin potatoes, loaded mac & cheese (the best mac & cheese ever, we all agreed). Desserts included the lava cake-oh goodness, tiramisu, Kona coffee creme brulee, and the butter cake with strawberries. Needless to say, this really is at the top of our list for a special dinner. Every visit has been perfect.

Yelp
Been coming here a long time. Food and service always top notch. Made reservation for my wife's bday and all was great. Didn't appreciate being charged $3 for anchovies for my Caesar salad when the wine is $90. Someone not paying attention......or perhaps someone paying too much attention to the wrong things.

Yelp
Been awhile since I've been at a steakhouse so was looking forward to mouth watering steaks especially since this one had pretty good reviews. We were able to get settled at our table for drinks and decent bread. Since we came as a group, we decided to order a lot of sides to share family style. The sides were definitely amazing with the creamy mashed potatoes, rich au gratin, and delicious creamed spinach. Unfortunately the steaks themselves were a bit of a disappointment. We had two orders of the ribeye at medium rare and one of them was definitely undercooked perhaps due to a thicker cut. Both steaks still tasted a bit tough. We did have a kerwee filet too which was more tender. But... felt like steaks elsewhere hit the spot more.

Yelp
It was my first time at Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Danville, where I celebrated a belated birthday for my son, who has been busy with school and work. As first-timers, we were fortunate to get everything we requested: a booth and the opportunity to try the A5 Wagyu. Our gracious server, INES, made the experience even better. Despite juggling multiple tables, she was attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. I was truly impressed with her service and attention to detail. The steak and seafood were both first-class. Upon returning home, I realized one simple side dish was not served. I called and informed Ines immediately, and despite her busy schedule, a manager called me regarding the issue. I highly recommend this place. You can find high-end food at other restaurants, but the service here is unmatched. Forbes Mill Steakhouse offers an amazing, elegant, and professional dining experience with high-quality food, and everyone is welcome!

Yelp
This is THE best steak house in if you're in the Tri-Valley area. Without going to San Francisco, you'd be hard pressed to find another establishment with the same service, food quality, and ambiance. If you're looking for a classic appetizer, don't miss the calamari. Lightly breaded and the sauces they serve it with are great! All the steaks are great, and I can't say enough about the flavor of the dry aged steak, but I recently had the blackened ahi tuna entree and it was delicious. It was perfectly cooked and served with a white rice topped with furikake that complemented it nicely. I had a great red with dinner, a 2022 Camus-Suisun "The Walking Fool". There's quite a selection of mixed drinks as well, which makes for a nice option. Don't skip the mezcal!

Yelp
I was honestly torn between a 4 and 5, but decided to give them a 5 purely thanks to the amazing service we got while there. Let me just put this out there, I rarely drink. I just got my second drink, when I decided to dump it all over the table and my food. Yep, Mr Smooth. The waiter, who for the life of me I can't remember his name, helped me clean up, took away and re-plated all the food, and brought me another drink (I question the call, but here we are). But even before that, he was so extremely kind and took time to talk to us and help us pick out drinks and what to have for dinner. At the end, he remembered we were actually there for our third anniversary, and we were brought a little plate at the end with Happy Anniversary on it in coco power (see the pictures). Other than that, I liked the dark atmosphere, even if it was a bit loud. The streak was good quality and was cooked perfectly, and the brussels sprouts, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were all tasty. Make sure to ask for their fresh rolls too.
