15 of the Best Speakeasies to Sneak Into in San Diego

"Situated next to Kilowatt Brewing in Kearny Mesa, this tiki-inspired den is covered in fishing floats, bamboo, and tropical plants. An assortment of beer cocktails made with fruit purees and tropical flavors are part of the menu, as well as sours from Kilowatt and even beers from the brewery if you notify the bartender in the neighboring taproom by pressing a special button. Reservations are recommended and can be made online. The brewery’s Oceanside location has its own speakeasy, called Space Pad, that seats 24 guests and features cocktails inspired by designed by Cristian Diaz, who served as the lead bartender at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland." - Candice Woo, Roxana Becerril

My friend and I came to Forbidden Cove for the first time tonight. We had an awesome experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the company of the bartender and Kilowatt’s owner, who were both down-to-earth and having a good time. The cocktails were really good. We tried a few different offerings, plus some off-menu drinks that were fantastic. Everything seemed well-prepared and mixed, and the taste was balanced and delicious. The bar itself is purposefully kitschy, not something ostentatious like you might find at a Consortium Holdings bar. It’s spacious, well-curated (in a fun and friendly kind of way), and has a homey feel that doesn’t exude any pretension whatsoever. This is a real-deal, down-to-earth tiki bar that brought back memories of ex-pat bars in Vietnam and southern Thailand. Kilowatt’s owner was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, offering my friend and I some sips of limited rums he had. They were some of the best rums I’ve ever tasted. He also gave us a rundown of the contexts surrounding the rums which was very cool, to say the least. I highly recommend trying this place out. I’d even go so far as to say that it’s more fun than some of the more well-known Kearny Mesa speakeasies like 52 Remedies and Convoy Music Bar. While those places are great and excel at what they do in their niche, they’re not nearly as down-to-earth, welcoming, and spacious as Forbidden Cove.

Google
Cool little tiki bar that has a speak easy feel.... You literally use a totem to enter a secret entrance. Food is acceptable, drinks are great and NOT watered down like you usually get. Atmosphere is really cool. Be sure to make a reservation to get best seating-I was able to get a great table the night before. Great place to check out and get some drinks.... Location is just a bit unexpected but allows for ample parking. Added bonus was the SHAG artwork on the tables🥰

Vibe was awesome. Definitely more of a local scene. Hostess was great. We only came by for drinks but had a great time regardless. Front end (Kilowatt Brewery) also had great vibes. Would come back again! (Also, glad to find another speakeasy that isn't owned by Consortium Holdings.

Holy moly this place ruled. The vibes are great. I enjoyed the way the secret entrance worked. The drink I had was well above what I expected too. Paper Boat it was called, and it was a journey. The flavor profile shifted several times with each sip and just kinda came in waves. The food was good too. Had a poke tower and we had chicharrons for the table. Definitely coming back to try more drinks because now I'm just plain curious.

Google
Amazing food and drinks, but admin needs to stop cutting corners and hire more people. We reserved a seat at the bar and ended up eating at what can only be described as a TV rack. The place was empty, but they still didn’t let us move to a normal setting place. When you have ONE bartender/bar back/host in one place (the brewery) and ONE waitress/hostess/admin in the other bar, I’m pretty sure it’s time to hire more people.

Google
Disappointing Service Went here expecting a decent “speakeasy” experience, but the service was terrible. The staff lacked patience when taking orders and seemed irritated whenever we asked for anything. When we requested more drinks, we were repeatedly overlooked and told they’d return, only to be ignored for over ten minutes. On top of that, my friend asked for a drink that they clearly had the ingredients for, yet they flat-out refused to make it with no explanation. The worst part? My wife gave up cheese for Lent due to her religious beliefs, and when we asked for the teriyaki chicken without cheese, they acted like it was an impossible request. After some resistance, they finally agreed but then made a rude remark about her belief by bringing out the dish while sarcastically stating it had “extra cheese” just to tease us. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful. Unacceptable service—definitely wouldn’t recommend. Let me know if you want any final adjustments!

This is a great hidden gem and a fun little speakeasy. The drinks are well made and fresh. The amount served per drink is well worth the price paid, you are not getting skimped on the quantity or the quality. I have not tried the small plates yet, they do not have a full menu for food.

Google
Fun place, big portions, interesting drinks, great tables, some of the rolly chairs are deep and difficult to maneuver. It's close to the comedy place so we stopped by. I'd go again.

Yelp
Pineapple strawberry and homemade ginger syrup with vodka.. this was a drink that we had and it was amazing! Service was amazing!! The ambiance is so fun when they turn on the storm lights and effects. Absolutely love this place!

Yelp
I wish I could give it five stars- but they were out of poke and that was so sad to hear. The poke is all over the menu so it definitely made me have to rethink my order, I had checked it out before hand and was looking forward to a specific dish. The speakeasy is so fun to find, the staff were all friendly and warm. The waitress gave great recommendations on drinks, I had two and both were excellent. Fun theme and such a fun date night spot. The chicken teriyaki was soft and perfect balance with the rice and cucumber salad. Although not my first pick- I enjoyed my meal and would go again!

Yelp
Tucked inside Kilowatt Brewing, Forbidden Cove is a hidden gem with a seriously immersive vibe. The ambiance alone is worth the visit with its trippy island escape meets glowing tiki dream theme. The lighting, decor, and atmosphere totally transport you. The food was a standout. We tried the pork nachos and sliders and both were absolutely delicious. Perfectly portioned and packed with flavor. We also shared the Scorpion, a glowing, fruity cocktail that's as fun to look at as it is to drink and definitely made for sharing and Instagram-worthy FOMO pictures. We visited for a special birthday, and while you have a chance to indicate the occasion, the servers don't really do anything for the occasion for you, so you're on your own. Definitey not looking for freebies, but even a "Happy Birthday" to the birthday girl would've been sweet. Also worth noting: it was on the pricier side, and it got pretty hot and stuffy inside, which made things a bit uncomfortable at times. That said, between the ambiance, unique drinks, and solid food, I'd still come back. Forbidden Cove is a cool experience overall, especially if you're looking for a fun, vibey night out with something different from the usual bar scene.

Yelp
We made a last minute reservation this Friday night and wasn't aware that it was a speakeasy! One of the employee checked us in and handed us the key to speakeasy. The door was near the entrance (nearby the restrooms) behind the giant fridge. Inside of the speakeasy was pretty cool, lots of ambient lighting with tropical rainforest sound. We tried the Jardin Rojo and Banana Chi Chi. I liked that the drinks weren't too sweet, I could taste the alcohol but not too strong. We had a late reservation (11pm) so we didn't get to check out the whole place too much but I think there was also an upstairs section.

Yelp
This place was super fun! We walked into the surfer themed bar, told the guy at the bar that we were looking for the speakeasy, he went to check in on the availability, and then got us the key and told us how to use it. We walked over to the spot he told us to go to, and spent a good several minutes investigating how to use that key to get into the speakeasy. When we walked in, it was like we were transported to a different universe - a super fun tiki themed party. The waitress directed us to a table and gave us the menu. She was kind enough to answer questions and explain several drinks. The drinks were great and quite strong, which, in my experience is typical for a tiki bar. So everything was up to expectations for me, though one of my friends had a hard time with their drink , just a heads up for those who are lighter drinkers.

Yelp
You walk into a brewery and you're supposed to ask for help getting into the speakeasy which I didn't read the instructions so that was my bad I was just acting like it was an escape room trying to enter pressing random barrels lol and it's much more simpler if you ask! The inside is so cute and decorated nicely. There's some sound effects of like a thunderstorm that occasionally goes off. The service was great he was very attentive and checked in frequently! The food was good we ordered the tacos with Mac salad and cucumber salad. The drinks were okay.... Not very tasty... and I feel like that's important. It felt like a slushie like with syrup. I feel like the drinks were low quality for the price and at that price point they should be using higher quality products!

Yelp
Such great service from all staff here, every time we have been. I personally sometimes find the menu to be a bit overwhleming, so I asked for the bartender reccomendation of a vodka based drink and it was amazing! I was continuously checked on to make sure i was satisfied, and around closing time, our bartender and server took time to come over and talk to us more personally which made us feel extremely welcome. I 1000% recommend this place.

Yelp
What a sweet find this place was. Great customer service, this place is beautifully decorated, the music was great and food was delish! Fun cocktails!

Yelp
Great little tucked away spot with free parking. For food we ordered the Poke Tapas which were really good! To wash it down we drank a Keawakapu Old Fashioned and a Lapu Lapu. The Old Fashioned had that classic taste but with a chocolatey finish- hard to describe but still very good. Lapu Lapu is a sweet drink that barely tastes like alcohol. Overall experience was wonderful with even better service!

Yelp
The decor here is pretty cool/fun, but I wasn't impressed by the whole experience. It was insanely loud with the music they played and with how close we were sitting next to other people. The drinks are annoying. 90% of them are similar to one another in their ingredients and I assume, the overall flavor. I get having a tiki theme, but you can come up with more creative and not overly complicated drinks. I tried their X-15 (Saturn) and was not a fan, though it was pretty to look at. The little origami birds they have for the drinks are insanely adorable. Very cute, small detail. I also got their Chocolate Mousse to try (added blackberry puree to it). Holy cow this was soo good! I gave an extra star for this dessert alone. I would come back here for this and skip the drinks next time. I'm curious about the food as well, so I'd be willing to try something next time too.

Yelp
I've not had good luck with food at speak easy until Forbidden Cove. I loved every aspect of my meal. I had the kalua pork plate and I practically licked the plate clean. They give you a choice of three sides and I swear next time I'm having the chips and salsa for all three. I loved that salsa. I came here with my Tiki Lady group so we took over the entire place. You get an hour and a half. Didn't seem to be enough time as we were all enjoying ourselves so much. Go check it out for yourself.

Yelp
I came here during happy hour. This place honestly has a really fun vibe. David who was serving us was really great! I was actually impressed with his service. He made the drinks really good! All of the staff here are really nice though. But David indeed made a lasting impression. The food was good. The drinks were good. A lot of different options. Even the menu items have a good set of choices. Place I would say is well maintained, was clean. I would definitely come back. Parking is not an issue. Is definitely a spot to check out. I recommend putting it on your check places out list.

Yelp
Disappointing service. My fiancee and I had been previously and had a good time so we were excited when when our friends made a reservation for 6 of us at this speakeasy. Upon entering we were promptly escorted to a small hallway and were told this was our space for the 6 of us. We awkwardly grabbed some chairs and stools that were in the corner and sat down. We were a little put off by this, but not too bothered at first. A few minutes later, the door at the end of the hallway opened and we were told that the hallway was standing room only and that a very tiny "table" with a booth for two was actually our space for 6. The staff seemed completely unsympathetic and even accusatory that we were blocking the entry way. At this point, we just left. If you dont have space for a party of six, dont take a reservation, plain and simple. We will gladly take our business elsewhere.

Yelp
Forbidden Cove is your quintessential tiki bar! Everything you can think of that is needed for a tiki bar, they got it! A lot of cocktails and food options. Pretty standard prices leaning slightly on the upper side but I like the variety. I got the missionary's downfall blended which I enjoyed and would get again. Came on a Friday night but was surprised that it wasn't too busy. No reservation and they were able to take my gf and I easily. Service was solid and we got our drinks and water pretty quick. Water was ok and they give it to you in a small class so I kept getting refills. The entrance to the speakeasy is fun and hidden somewhere inside Kilowatt Brewery. The speakeasy itself isn't too large but saw multiple groups of 4-6 people while we were there and didn't feel too crowded. Heard it can get packed so maybe just got lucky! Overall, if I wanted tiki bar vibes, this is a solid spot!

Yelp
We made a reservation, but we're left waiting at the door for 15 minutes. When we finally were shown in, we were told a section in the corner with stacked stools was "our area". Deciding to make the best of it, we sat down with menus. Before we could even order, an employee comes over and tells us that we need to stay out of the way, as its the path to the employee area. At that point between too expensive drinks, and no place to set them if we order, we decided to call it. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
If you're looking for a cute Hawaiian theme speakeasy this place is the place to go. Their drinks are super strong and super delicious. Also, they have some small bites that are also Hawaiian theme highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for A cute place to grab some drinks

Yelp
Tucked away behind an unassuming door, this speakeasy tiki bar is a real hidden gem. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to a tropical paradise with black light neon, nautical décor, and tropical island vibes. The ambiance is intimate and feels like a well-kept secret--perfect for a date night or a night out with friends looking for something different. The Drinks: The cocktails are undoubtedly the star here. The bartenders take their craft seriously, mixing up elaborate tiki drinks with fresh ingredients and unique twists on classic tropical cocktails. Expect potent drinks that pack a punch (some served in quirky mugs) with layers of flavor--sweet, sour, spicy, and smoky all in one. While the prices are on the higher side, you're paying for the experience and the care that goes into each drink. I'd recommend any of the rum-based concoctions--they're top-notch, or even the rum flight. The Atmosphere: It's a small space, so it can fill up quickly, but it adds to the exclusive feel. The staff is friendly, but the service can be slow, especially when it's busy. The Downside: The lack of attentiveness led to a longer experience than we were planning on. It is not pleasant being told we would be taken care of then waiting and waiting with the staff chatting up each other then many other customers. Unfortunately this led to us cancelling our order for rum flights. We were excited to try them and learn more about rum as well. Also, it can get loud when it's packed, so don't expect a quiet night if it's peak hours. Overall, if you're a fan of tiki cocktails and love the thrill of discovering hidden spots, this place is definitely worth a visit. Just be ready to spend a little extra and have patience with the service, and you'll have a great time. We enjoyed our first but what also is our last visit. There are many other speakeasy's to visit in San Diego. We just have to find them.

Yelp
Wanted to try out the speakeasy and was told that they were completely booked by the bartender. I went to the website and there were openings at the bar. I'll spend my money elsewhere

Yelp
A couple days ago a friend and I were looking to grab a drink or two after dinner and this hidden gem popped us in our search. We were only a few minutes away so we said why not try it out? Tucked away inside the brewery, Forbidden Cove really shocked me! The interior and vibes were amazing. My friend and I both felt like we were at Disneyland (in a good way!) the decor, music and everything was just such a fun vibe. Now the important part; the drinks! Boy were these good. Most of their drinks are with rum (duh tiki) but they had one cocktail that immediately caught my eye with rye whiskey. As a rye whiskey fan this was what I had first and I loved it! My friend and I each tried two drinks and they were all delicious. Also the staff were so nice. The bartender was kind, suggested things he thought we would enjoy and was quick. Beautifully decorated drinks that tasted delicious (and gave you a good buzz) My friend and I were wrapped up in a great conversation and got lost for time. We were there until closing and both the guys working were chill and relaxed and talked to us so kindly. I wish I got their names. I will definitely be coming back. As a native in San Diego I am surprised I had never heard of this place and am so glad to have randomly stumbled upon it.

Yelp
I love this speakeasy. I've gone several times and the atmosphere is amazing. It's a tiki vibe and the artwork is super fun. It reminds me of the Disneyland Tiki Room area. You get in with a special Tiki key. When you enter through a hallway mirror you wait for the staff to seat you. You need to reserve to enter. I've always had a wait staff that are friendly and helpful. Our favorite drink to get to share is the Scorpion Bowl. It's close to $40 but it's a really fun drink to get. Yummy tropical flavors with lots of pretty decor on it. Fun to share with like 2-3 people. I've had the Ahi Poke bowl as well. The poke always tastes fresh and delicious. Generous portion that two people can share. I will come back again and again to this fun hidden bar. We've gone here for birthdays and just for the heck of it. I wouldn't recommend a large party it is a small space but a small party would be ok like around 6-8 people .
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
This place is so cute!! The decor and vibe are so fun! Our server was really nice and let us put two tables together to fit all of our food. I ordered a mocktail and the bartender came over to check that it was to my liking. I thought they had a bit more options of food than a usual speakeasy. Parking was super easy. I am definitely coming here again. I would recommend coming here if you want a tiki bar vibe, but don't want the hassle of trying to park downtown.

Yelp
Portions: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Customer service: 4/5 Speed: 4/5 Price: $$ ADA access: yes Restrooms: yes, unisex Dogs: no Kid Friendly: no Ambiance: casual, date Pros: fun atmosphere Cons: we originally had 3 tables for a large group and they ended up taking one table away to give it to other guests who came in. It made our experience cramped

Yelp
Wow, there are so many speakeasies in Convoy--I had no idea! If you're planning a night out with friends, definitely add this spot to your list alongside Remedies 52 and Convoy Music Bar. We stumbled upon this place, and while the decor was cheesy AF (as any good tiki bar should be), the real surprise was the food. The chicken teriyaki plate was amazing, and the portions were huge! I'd totally recommend this spot if you're in the mood for a laid-back tiki vibe, unlike the hard-to-find-parking, slightly stuffy ones (ahem, False Idol--though, to be fair, that place is a gem too). Definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Abby W.

Yelp
What a fun tiki themed speakeasy tucked into Kilowatt Brewing. The drinks and decor sets the stage for a tropical night out and I'm all about the tropics. So many fun drinks are on the menu. I'd love to come back again.
google avatar

Yelp
oh so cute! nice space with nice staff and nice drinks and the most amazing chicken teriyaki nachos holy shit
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
I am so glad I found this speakeasy. The drinks are good and strong. The bartender/server is so amazing and so nice. Not to mention every time I've gone. They recommend the perfect drink for what I'm feeling at that moment. The food is really good. If you were ever questioning of whether or not to go here. The answer is yes, you need to go here. And the overall feeling of this place is Hawaiian with some fun drinks to help.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
I liked it a lot! For a special occasion, I think it's very affordable, especially for San Diego. I was curious about the poke, and as a connoisseur of poke I thought it was great! It was the type of poke that shows off the quality of the fish, which was either salmon or fatty tuna, and was mildly seasoned with no onions or seaweed, so more like a fish tartare almost. The food from what I tried was very much western style Asian, done pretty well. Things like cucumber salad and Mac salad were a bit heavier spiced than other Hawaiian food I've had, and the meat was tender and smoky with, again, more focus on the meat itself than a strong sauce. However, the flavors overall remind me of American-Asian food closer to the "American" side, for example sweet/sour teriyaki flavor. My friends loved their drinks, and I had a Royal Hawaiian. It smelled lovely and tasted nice with not too strong an alcohol taste. I usually struggle with the taste of alcohol, but I thought everyone's drinks were pleasant. The best part was the decor, I'm a huge fan of rainbow blacklight stuff. The music was great and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Our waitress was very kind and helpful to us. It definitely would be fun to come here again.
google avatar

Tristen J.

Yelp
Very cute and interesting decor. Very small and for our group of 6 it was a bit crowded. Chicken teriyaki sliders were delicious. Drinks were good but pricey. Overall it was a fun experience.

Yelp
Forbidden cove was a hit for a local tiki bar. Ambiance 8/10 Cocktails 10/10 Food 10/10 Location 10/10 Parking 10/10 90 min time limit 8/10 Before going, I read many reviews saying the food was delicious and I wholeheartedly agree. I was quite impressed.

Adrienne G.

Yelp
The place wasn't hard to find, but was slightly unappealing upon arrival as it was in an industrial area. The inside environment was dark, which made it hard to see the menu and the food. Although, the black lights were fun. The food was mediocre, at best... and, despite the recommendations from the wait staff for sweet drinks, none of the drinks we had were actually sweet. It was fun for a gimick-y birthday event. But, I wouldn't recommend the place to a friend. There are far better speakeasies in our area.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
Forbidden Cove is located inside Kilowatt Brewery in the Kearny Mesa area in San Diego. We made reservations for a Saturday night and went to the bartender at Kilowatt Brewery when we arrived. He gave us a tiki idol key and told us where to find the secret door and how to use it to open the door. We ordered the three dots and a dash ($17), the missionary's downfall both on the rocks and blended ($16), and the X-15 ($15). All of the drinks were just okay; the blended missionary's downfall was pretty diluted from extra ice, and the other drinks were nothing to write home about. We also got the scorpion bowl for 2-3 people ($36) which was probably my favorite drink of everything we tried. It was dangerous because we couldn't taste the alcohol but it was definitely there. The drinks were average but the interior was colorful and the secret entrance/passage was a cool touch.
google avatar

Melanie P.

Yelp
I didn't know this existed! One of my friends went here, so of course, I had to check it out! This is a Hawaiian themed speakeasy within Kilowatt brewery. Love the theme and its small and intimate with a lot of Hawaiian art around. Dranks: Scorpion Bowl. Ok, this is strong! Sip it slowly, bartenders give loose pours! Food: I had the chicharonnes and huapia. This was okay. Customer service is great, the servers were super friendly. There's plenty of signs so that you can easily find the hidden door.

David R.

Yelp
We've been wanting to come here for some time. If you've been thinking about going go. Food and drinks were excellent. Staff was great our hour and a half went by way too fast. The decor was great also, however False idle downtown decor is a little better.
google avatar

Anthony D.

Yelp
First time going to this Kilowatt Brewing location and it's vastly different than their location in Ocean Beach. It's much smaller and it felt like everyone who was in the main room, was just waiting around until they were called into Forbidden Cove. We didn't make any reseravations ahead of time and so we talked to the bartender and they put our name down. We waited about 20-30 minutes. They hand you a tiki totem with a scanner on it and that unlocks the door into the hidden bar. We were greeted by the hostess and she took us to our seats. The aesthetic inside is what you would expect from your classic Tiki Bar. Tiki heads, colorful lights, palm trees, etc. Definitely has a hokey charm to it. The space inside isn't very big either with a few tables and seats around. The layout is interesting and 'skinny' so there is no standing room whatsoever. For drinks, the hostess took our order and the drinks arrived pretty quickly afterwards. We got the Royal Hawaiian and Lapu Lapu. Both were really nice! The Royal Hawaiian was unique since it had a slight marzipan flavor to it. Overall I think Forbidden Cove is a cool and intimate place that's great for small groups.

Yelp
We came here at 5pm on a Saturday and it was not busy. We didn't have a reservation but they let us in. The cocktail was okay but the poke tower was INSANE! It was a big portion and it was plated so aesthetically. There was gold dust on it! I recommend ordering the tower!

GarfileMyTaxes M.

Yelp
Decorations and music inside the bar was on point. Wasn't expecting the food to be special but it was AMAZING. Also Nate was the best bartender of all time!!!! 5/5 birthday dinner!

Yelp
Last visit of the year! Went around open, they got busy fairly quickly. The seating is based on party size, so anyone 4 or less sits on the middle and groups larger than that sit next to the tiki god. Since there wasn't anyone else we were able to sit closer to the tiki god which is a cool little area. They had a very large food menu with mostly poke and spam. Tried the spam nachos, it was a hearty portion for $16 but felt like it was missing something, maybe guac or sour cream. Drinks: Of course we had to get the scorpion bowl again, this is so good but pricey at $36. Royal Hawaiian - this was a-okay, floating flower was pretty. Three dots and a dash - $17. too bitter, not my thing, wouldn't get again. We'll be back!

Yelp
Very disappointed on their first Sunday being open there was no Poke , no tacos ??? That's what we thought they were known for ! Server was the bartender also so it took awhile to get our drinks . Will not return

located inside kilowatt brewery! you can also make reservations online. the experience is so fun and it was exciting to go thru for the first time. i noticed that many of their drinks have some sort of "spice" to them. wether that be cinnamon or nutmeg and such. not the biggest fan but there's many more to chose from :) the lapis lapu was delicious! very fruity and tart! the painkiller was soo strong, we had trouble finishing this one!! inside is pretty small and intimate. there's cool tiki decor and the lighting really amplified the experience!

Yelp
Cute and fun atmosphere here! Our waitress was great and gave several recommendations on drinks. We enjoyed all of the drinks we ordered and they even did something fun for our friend's birthday!

Yelp
2nd visit was just as awesome as the first. Went with reservation this time. There were plenty of open seats and it was quieter since it was Thursday before 7pm. The decor changed a bit from how I recalled. Service was awesome and they were regularly checking up on us. Today, we tried out the scorpion bowl. It's definitely felt like a 2 person drink or a person with strong tolerance could probably finish it solo. We also got a Dr. Funk which wasn't our thing. The menu doesn't mention it, but it seemed like it had some carbonation to it and taste/smell resembled licorice (not to be confused with red vines). Overall an awesome experience and we grabbed some In-N-Out after. Side note: Seems like the restroom lock is still not to be trusted. Use with caution

Yelp
I loved it! It's a great tiki bar and not too crowded. The punch was good and the chicken teriyaki tacos were amazing. I would come back

Yelp
Oh man. So I was super excited going in. The bar tender was probably the best part because she had great energy. The ambiance was cool too, but the service was crap. Got my order wrong after confirming by it twice. The drinks had so much ice! Ridiculous! The flight was good, the food was subpar. I would say don't waste your time or money here.

Yelp
This is the most casual of all the San Diego speakeasies I've tried. I say "casual" both in terms of ambiance and in terms of the menu. These aren't custom craft cocktails dreamed up by a master mixologist. They're tiki standbys (mostly) made with good-enough liquor. No fancy garnishes, no unexpected glasses, but good. The service is fine but a little inattentive, about what you would expect with the ratio of guests (too many) to staff (too few).

Yelp
This is a neat little speakeasy that is located inside of a brewery. Their is is private lot on the side and in the back to park. They are only open Thursday thru Sunday and is a well-kept secret. The place is small so reservations are highly recommended. You check in at the brewery's bar and If you do have to wait, you can hang out at the breweries bar and pre-game, until it is time for you to go in. This is not a spot that you can just meet up with your friends. Your entire party should be there before you go in because they may reach capacity and whoever in you group that is showing up fashionably late, may not be able to get in. Once you are able to get the green light to go in, the bar tender with give you a small totem pole, which is the key that unlocks the secret door that is disguised among some fake alcohol barrels. The bar is tropical decorated, dimly lit and neon colored. As I mentioned it is very small. I ended up sitting at the bar which was a bit tight. They also have a small dining area and some couches that they sit people at. They have a decent selection of tropical drink favorites such as the Painkiller, Jungle Bird and Missionary's Downfall, which were all my drinks of choice while I was there. They also have Mai Tais, Zombies, and Lapu Lapus. I was in tropical drink heaven so, it was a dit difficult for me to pick, but ultimately I decided that I could not go wrong with what ever I chose. And I was correct all my drinks were savory, delicious and well crafted. They were as presentable as they were tasty. They also serve light food from their restaurant, Poke. It is a very limited menu that has a tropical theme. Some items include poke tapas, squid salad and seaweed salad. They are all no very big and are more of a snack. If you are hungry I recommend eating before you get here. I ended up ordering the Umeboshi Pineapple. It only took about 5 minutes. It was very unique and I really liked it a lot, I plan on learning how to make it at home. They started me off with chop sticks though, that did not go very well. I ended up requesting a fork and then I devoured it. The staff their was amazing, very friendly, helpful and courteous across the board. They provided great conversation and really made my experience much better. This spot has a laid back, chill vibe and a thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly, highly recommend checking this place out. It is a real good time, they have some savory drinks and first class service. Cheers!!!

When it was our turn we entered through the secret door. the place is super cute and small. Love the decor and the vibe. The music is ironically fun! I started with Three dots and a dash & hubby had a Pain killer both were amazing...couldn't say which was better i had a second drink..hubby had a third...i'll update when I remember what they were ...hahah. i also purchased the souvenir glass to take home (it was inexpensive ...maybe $7?) i will absolutely return and would love to show friends this spot!

Yelp
It's a funky, casual hidden tiki bar that is part of Kilowatt Brewery on Clairemont Blvd. You need a reservation, but easy to get. Great ambience, some rain and volcano sounds, but no lights or anything else. Drinks are $14-18 for single drinks, but they have a scorpion bowl. Parking is easy and tons of restaurants nearby off Convoy afterwards.
