Hong Kong’s ‘Demon Chef’ Alvin Leung To Open Forbidden Duck In Singapore In April

"Forbidden Duck, which opened in Times Square in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay district last November, is famed for serving roast ducks in two styles—Peking and slow-cooked. The slow-roasted duck is cooked at a low temperature for three hours to yield pink supple meat, then the temperature is increased for 30 minutes to crisp the skin. Unlike Peking duck, the slow-roasted duck is chopped into thick cuts. The menu includes duck dishes like seafood rice in aromatic duck soup, duck and pesto spring roll, and lor mai gai with duck. There will be dishes inspired by Singapore cuisine, such as a version of chilli crab." - Kenneth Goh

Great food and worth the price for group dinner. (3 pax) Whole Signature Duck - Textbook crispy, tender moist meat. Comes along with the buns and condiments. Get Birthday discount for this. Wagyu Beef Stir-fry - Good tender chunky beef with great a few morels Sweet and Sour Pork - Restaurant quality SnS Pork. Crispy and seasoning, meat-flour ratio etc everything is on point. Lobster Vermicelli - The great big impressive surprise of the meal, very soft flavourful lobster meat, flavourful truffle seafoody vermicelli. Eefu Noodles - Very good above average Eefu noodles. But wish portion was a bit more. Osmanthus Jelly/Gui Hua Gao - Decent soft tasty Osmanthus Jelly. There were 4 quite big pieces of it. By this time we were all very full. Mango Sago - Nice thick mango puree dessert with just the right slight sourness to balance it out. Tea - Refillable Tie Guan Yin to chat through the entire dinner.

Didn’t get to taste their Peking Duck during our patronization sometime ago, for a 2 paxs lunch. However, we were still pleased with their Dim Sum and other main dishes that we had ordered. For Dim Sum, we liked their Steamed Rice Rolls With Crispy Beancurd Skin, which is kind of unique and something that we had not eaten before, as its not found on most dim sum menu from other restaurants or stores. Both Rice Rolls and Crispy Beancurd Skin did paired well, boasting good bite texture and flavours. Next were their Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling (Crispy Skin with flavourful and Generous Prawn Paste Fillings) and Pan-Fried Turnip Cake With XO Sauce (Soft Pillowy Interior with slightly crispy exterior and delightful combo of sweet, savory flavours from the XO Sauce, as well as eggy aroma from the stir-fried egg with beansprouts. From their main menu, we ordered their Homemade Tofu With Wild Mushroom (Fried Tofu were Soft, Delicious with good bite texture and drenched with thick savory oyster sauce and hint of flavours from the Wild mushrooms). Followed by Duck Meat And Rice Noodle With Five Willow’s Sauce. It was also delicious. Rice Noodle were tender and chewy, not mushy or overly sticky… had a good balance of texture and sweet sour flavours from the Five Willow’s Sauce. Lastly, we ordered their another Duck Dish, Laksa Style Duck Meat recommended by their Service Staffs since we are unable to try their peking duck. Well, its another unique dish base on local flavours and had good balance of texture from the crunchy lettuce to the flavourful fillings. Other than their food, service rendered by their efficient and attentive service staffs, as well as the cosy ambience of the restaurant did contributed to our memorable dining experience.

Easily accessible by elevator to level 2, nice cosy good acoustic restaurant. Service staffs are knowledgeable and attentive. Pre ordered the duck with wrap. First time taking this with meat, a little hard to chew and salty based on feedback. Sweet & Sour Pork was excellent. Tofu was great. Salmon Fried rice was too dry. Lemongrass jelly Dessert was ok. Ordered crab dumpling but was served Har Gao instead, they did a change for us. Thank you.

We sampled the restaurant’s signature dishes, including the black pepper beef, foie gras with iberico pork, slow cooked duck, and the laksa duck. Each dish was thoughtfully executed, with juicy, well-prepared meats and balanced flavors throughout. The signature slow cooked duck leaned a little salty for my personal taste, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality, flavorful dishes with a creative touch.

I was very impressed with the seafood rice. The texture of the Chinese ground dish was also excellent. The lychee prawn offered a unique flavor profile, although its sweetness became pronounced after a few bites.

Delicious Cantonese food! Highly recommend their Peking duck, mushroom dumpling, sweet sour pork, char siu, roast pork and poached rice. The char siu melts in your mouth!

Yet another great secret. This place is well hidden in the financial district, and i believe it's not a place you can just walk in during the weekdays. It serves a variety of dim sum and local cuisine. The standard siew mai and har gao passed the test, but the highlight is definitely the duck paofun. If you are keen on a dessert, do pre-book the egg tarts. There's a special yuzu filling you can try. It's slightly too sweet to my liking, though it's a refreshing change to the usual.

Food: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌜 Service: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝 Ambience: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝 The Green Dragon Chives elevated the shrimp CCF, and the Steamed Chicken with Mui Choy in Lotus Leaf was an interesting dish reminding one of chwee kueh. The Chinese Gourd was a clear standout dish. The dishes were a tad salty for us but overall it was an enjoyable dining experience.

Yelp
Came here based on watching the food channel and seeing Chef Alvin Leung. We were seated promptly as we glad reservations. We ordered one dumpling, 2 meat dishes and 1 vegetable dish. The dumpling was okay. The crispy pork Belly was excellent, nice, juicy and crispy skin. Then Duck was okay as we had better ones. The garlic gai lan was just standard. Service was okay. Surprised they did not provide cut fruits or fortune cookie after our meal. There are other places we will try.

Yelp
Food was not impressive. Their signature Duck was sliced in the back and no presentation was given. We ordered the Salt and Pepper Squid as an appetizer that came out after our main was served. Squid was very thick with breading and not crispy at all. Overall service was good. The main eating area was very nicely decorated but the bathrooms were sub par. Would not come back if I was in Singapore again.

Yelp
Good food and good service. We ordered the signature duck which came with calamansi infused buns to eat with the tender duck. The prawns were also excellent as was the eggplant. I wasn't as big a fan of the goose liver with pork. The egg tart was nice although it wasn't as special as I'd expect since we had to pre-order. The yuzu balanced the sweetness of the egg custard and the pastry was nice and flakey. Pity about the crab which also had to be pre-ordered to ensure freshness and we didn't do so.

Yelp
All the dim sum dishes were very good and i lived in hk for three years. I've also lived in beijing for two year and felt the bj duck here could hold its own against a good bj roast duck restaurant in beijing. The beef and pork dishes were nice. The vegetables and soup were also great. The only slight let down was the lobster. The flavor and texture of this dish were not up to par with the lobster served at good cantonese restaurants.

Yelp
Innovative cooking, with unique dishes that you either love or hate. The signature dishes should all be tried. The slow roast duck is juicy with a variety of textures showing through the thick-cut pieces of meat; however, the yellow pancakes wrapping the duck is too thick in my opinion. The lobster vermicelli with black truffle is also scrumptious - fragrant and flavourful. The salted egg prawns are delicious, but one should avoid the accompanying cereals with fruit salad - truly questionable taste! For me, the stars are the seafood crispy rice in duck soup (absolutely delightful), and to a lesser extent the giant egg tart with a touch of yuzu.
