Four New Orleans Restaurant Openings to Know Right Now, February 2025 | Eater New Orleans

"Founded by New Orleans–born couple Beau and Nicole Baudier, this CBD counter-service spot focuses on a Brooklyn-style thin-crust pie that comes in a large 20-inch size and reflects extensive research by the owners. Offerings include classic toppings as well as trend-forward combinations like the Some Like It Hot with mozzarella, pepperoni, jalapeno, and hot honey. For now the operation is counter-service, open Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with plans to expand next door into a full-service restaurant with a full bar." - Clair Lorell

This was our first time at Forbidden Pizza, and overall the pizza was really good! We were with two kids, so we got a half pepperoni, half basic pie, and everyone was happy. The atmosphere is laid-back and casual, perfect for grabbing a quick bite. It was pretty packed when we arrived and there’s limited seating inside, so we ended up eating outside—but it worked out just fine. The guy at the counter was super friendly and helpful, especially since it was our first visit. We’ll definitely stop by again next time we’re in the city!

This place is off the charts delicious! They serve Brooklyn-style pizza with fresh toppings that are not the usual pizza topping options you would expect. Most of the pizzas can be ordered by the slice, which gives you the chance to try several different kinds, which is what I did. The portions are generous, so you definitely get your money’s worth. I tried the Burrata Bliss (added prosciutto), Italian Stallion (pepperoni, sausage & bacon), a slice of the Original Sin (Margherita), and Forbidden Fruit (mozzarella, fig jam, bacon). I can’t pick a favorite because I loved them all! The adjoining bar is sleek, comfortable, and tastefully done, perfect for relaxing while you wait, and the handcrafted cocktails are just as impressive as the food. There’s also seating, so once you order your pizza, you can kick back and enjoy. If you’re looking to try something new in the CBD, do yourself a favor and try this place! 🍕

Google
Forbidden Pizza in New Orleans offers a distinctive take on classic pizzeria fare, blending bold flavors with a rebellious flair. Their Meat Lovers pizza stands out as a hearty favorite, generously topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and crispy bacon. Each slice delivers a satisfying crunch from the crust, complemented by the savory richness of the meats. The tomato sauce adds a subtle tang, balancing the robust flavors. While the ambiance leans towards the unconventional, the quality of the pizza makes Forbidden Pizza a noteworthy spot for those seeking a flavorful, meat-centric pie in the city.

Google
Tried Forbidden Pizza for the first time and ordered the *Original Sin*—and honestly, I might never look at pizza the same again. This place is in a league of its own. The crust is thin, crisp, and baked to perfection. The ingredients? Fresh, balanced, and bursting with flavor. The *Original Sin* comes with fresh basil, mozzarella, and tomato—simple, classic, but executed at a crazy high level. Every bite was clean, flavorful, and satisfying without being heavy. No meat, no gimmicks—just top-tier quality. The vibe inside? Cool, low-key, and packed with people who clearly know this is *the* spot. Even Dave Portnoy dropped an 8.3 on this place and called it the best slice in New Orleans—and I see exactly why. If you’re tired of greasy, overloaded pies and want something real, fresh, and unforgettable—Forbidden Pizza is where it’s at. Get the *Original Sin*. You’ll understand.

Google
They open at noon, We got there at 11:45 and we're second in line. By noon The line was 20 people deep. The restaurant itself is still under construction (almost done) but when it's finished is going to be really nice. Full bar and the pizza is phenomenal. We had three different kinds and all of them were great. My personal favorite was the white pizza. I thought it was on another level.

Google
The pizza is crisp and tasty. New York style with a New Haven crunch. The fig jam bacon slice was insanely good but the basic slice was everything you could ask for. A definite must go

Hey Doug!

Google
Seriously good NY style pizza using quality ingredients. Am staying in a hotel not far, and stumbled upon this place. I am so glad I did. Staff are friendly, prices reasonable and as I have a few days before heading home, I’ll definitely be back. If you’re in the neighbourhood feeling peckish. Give these guys a try.

Google
The pizza is the best in town and the staff is SO friendly! Decor is very cool. Very creative and beautiful. Atmosphere feels upbeat.

Ernesto M.

Yelp
One of the greatest slices of pizza I've had in the city of New Orleans! Very friendly staff and the bar was very clean. Drinks were very fresh. The whole place was aesthetically pleasing!

Yelp
Best pizza to put in my mouth, if I could bring them home with me I would As for the bartender--vibes were immaculate. Cool, welcoming, and poured up a drink that matched the pizza's energy: strong, smooth, and unforgettable. No fake smiles or script talk--just real, laid-back energy and good convo if you wanted it.

Yelp
This pizza is an out of body experience. I am a St. Pizza fan. I didn't think I would find anything I love more than St. Pizza. I may have found it....or at least tied for my top spot. Pizza order takers are smiling and friendly. Pizza comes out pretty quick. Slices are huge, really good dough, significant amount of toppings. You can also get a whole pie, or do like we did and order 4 different slices and then order more slices of your favorites because you are hyper fixated on how perfect the truffle pizza is and proceed to be so full that walking home feels impossible but you do it anyway. I thought their cocktail and wine options were good and I liked the feel of their bar area. Very hip but still feels casual. You need to go. Get a margarita at the bar. Get a cookie. Enjoy and be ruined for every other pizza you try because it's just going to be less amazing. I'm writing this 3 months later and I can still vividly imagine how perfect this pizza was...

Yelp
I love pizzas and I will try new pizzas if they are good. I want to say that the flavor of the forbidden fruit pizza was delicious. I think that given how thin and light are the toppings I would get 2 slices per person to satisfy your hunger, one pizza slice is just going to make you hangry. The service was nice, you wait your own tables, so clean up after yourself, order pizza at the counter or at the bar where you can get a delicious drink. Ambiance is very poppy and modern. Simple and elegant. Ac is blasting and seats are comfortable if you are walking alot in downtown, they do have cold free water! This is like New York style pizza so large and thin.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
This place is packed at all times but I stopped in for a slice. One side of the space is a bar and the other side is where you place your order. It's very tight so a line usually forms out of the door. I got the daily special "some like it hot" which was pepperoni, jalapeños and hot honey. It was temperature hot and spice level hot which I lovedddd! I love that they used raw jalapeños! So so good!
google avatar

Meghan B.

Yelp
I'm giving a 4 because my pizza could have been a lot more hotter, but overall this was a cute pizza spot and the pizza was delicious. The restaurant is designed where one half is a quick walk in service part of the pizzeria, and the other half has a bar with seating. They have a good amount of pizza options to choose from, but not too many that you may get overwhelmed. I ordered a slice of the Italian Stallion. The names of the pizzas were too cute. The portion sizes are great you and you also can order a whole pizza as well which was huge like a NY style pizza. I will be back to see what their drink menu is like and to try another pizza.

Yelp
Lives up to the hype! Tried a slice of Original Sin and Pepperoni Pleaser. Both excellent- really appreciated the fresh basil on both. Thin and crispy crust, with a little bit of chew. Great flavor on the sauce. My friend got the one with fig and raved about it, as well as the one with pepperoni and sausage. I also bought a cookie which I wasn't expecting to be impressed by but WOW. It was fantastic. Service was fast and friendly. Full bar on the inside, pretty impressive. It's a really beautiful seating area. Can't wait to come back and try more slices or a whole pie! The only negative was the dough ball - compared to the garlic knots of Zee's and Pizza D, these pale in comparison.
google avatar

Sophia T.

Yelp
Crispy. Thin. Amazing flavor. Got a slice of the forbidden fruit and a slice of burrata bliss. Both were great. The forbidden fruit got a little tough, I'm assuming from the sugars of the jam... but I should have just eaten faster. Lol. Also tried a slice of the some like it hot (can only get this as a whole pie). This was good, but not as good as the others. It was more floppy and I'm assuming it's bc of the fat from the meats? Banana soft serve was delicious. Was good. Would return.
google avatar

Carolyn T.

Yelp
My friends and I came on a rainy day and we were so lucky! There was no line. Seating is pretty limited though. I would come again for the hot honey pizza, but I'm not a big fan of flat crust! Don't get me wrong, I would eat it again but wouldn't go out of my way to come here!
google avatar

Ada M.

Yelp
This was my second time trying this place, and it's just as good as I remember. The line was long but moves quick!! I did to go, but they do have an area to sit and eat which looked really nice and cutesy. I love that you can get individual slices that are still hot and fresh. Also they don't use any garlic??? Insane that it still tastes so good without it.
google avatar

Florence T.

Yelp
I'll admit that I really wanted to try the pizza here because of Dave Portnoy's top rating when he was in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. Before then I hadn't even know about this restaurant. We came on a really busy day, but the service was quick and we had no problem finding a place to sit. They have a full display of all of their pizzas which helps you make a decision with your eyes vs the menu. We tried a couple of pizzas and they were pretty good. I wouldn't say it's my most favorite pizza, but definitely a good place to visit when you're in the area! Service: Over the counter Drinks: There's a bar with all of the drinks Parking: Paid street parking

Yelp
Saw a crazy line in the morning for this pizza joint and went to go check it out later that day. Classic Brooklyn style slices with different toppings and arrangements. The flavor is really good and recommend trying a variety. Just delicious when it's hot and fresh, but the crust is a little chewy for my liking. Nice vibe inside and it is pretty casual and lively!

Yelp
I was hesitant to come back to this place because when they first opened, my experience wasn't great. I slid in there right before they closed a couple days after they opened, before the mass crowds started coming there (before Super Bowl). I wanted a quick bite to eat before going in the house and this place is right across the street from my house. I ordered two slices of pepperoni pizza, and the bottom of the pizza was completely burned and charred. For $6 each which I thought was overpriced. When we walked in there the whole place smelled like smoke, but they were still selling pizza... that totally turned me off and I said I wouldn't come back. Then once they opened up the other side of the restaurant with the bar area and seating area and I started seeing these long lines all hours of the week and weekend coming there I figured I would give this place to try it one more time. So that time was last night and I was definitely Pleasantly impressed. They have definitely stepped their game up since they first opened, their bar/seating area on the other side is brand new cute and has two TVs for viewing sports etc. I got their daily special slice and it was prosciutto with ricotta cheese and honey which was AMAZING. I would've never thought of that combination on the pizza, but it was very very good. For $6. now that was worth the six dollars lol. The bartender Mary was very pleasant and welcoming, and we chatted with her for a bit. We will definitely be more consistent customers because it's literally across the street from my house so it's very convenient for anyone who lives in this area. Will be back!!

Audrey L.

Yelp
This is by far the best pizza in New Orleans!!! It's worth the walk off the strip & they have a bar!!! Xoxo
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Tiny, clean and new space. Four stools to dine in so really more of a to-go place. No beer or wine. Limited canned soft drinks. If you like thin crust pizza, then you'll like their pie. Big slices or whole pie options. My favorite was the Forbidden Fruit with that honey
google avatar

Gretchen G.

Yelp
I am a picky pizza eater with high pizza standards. This is the perfect spot to grab a whole pizza or just a slice. We opted for multiple slices and none of them disappointed. If you like a little heat I recommend the Some Like It Hot.
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
I was on a work trip and wanted something quick and easy found this location. Easy walk from the hotel. Pizza was really good. The service was quick. Location was easy and loved the decor inside, it's a small place but it's very cute. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I finally checked out Forbidden Pizza in New Orleans, and it did not disappoint. If you're craving authentic Brooklyn-style pizza, this is the spot. I tried both the regular and the Forbidden Fruit pizza--let me tell you, that bacon jam on the Forbidden Fruit is next-level. It's sweet, savory, and totally unique. I wasn't expecting something that bold and flavorful, but it works perfectly. There's also a chill additional space to the left where you can kick back, watch a game, and enjoy good food with family or friends. It's casual, inviting, and definitely a new favorite for pizza nights. Can't wait to come back
google avatar

Tia C.

Yelp
I stopped here really quickly before a night out and I cant wait to go back! I ordered 2 pepperoni pleasers and asked for fresh basil. The inside was cute, everyone was friendly, and the service was quick. I will return for a whole pizza soon!
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Forbidden Pizza is a very small spot in the heart of downtown, a few blocks away from the Superdome, French Quarter, streetcar line. The service was quick and took only a few minutes for my slice. I ordered the Forbidden Fruit and it was delicious. I would call it an artisan slice. It had a very crispy thin crust. Probably the best pizza I have had in Nola and will be back.
google avatar

Sean F.

Yelp
I bought a whole pie to go, same one that Portnoy tried. I had high hopes, but honestly, I thought it was just OK. I saw a lot of other great-looking pies in the display case, so I plan to go back and try of the other options. For now, the tomato pie at St. Pizza reigns as my #1 pizza in the city.
google avatar

Yelp
TWENTY INCH PIES. And slices, but TWENTY INCH PIES! It's been open a short while, but already they're top 3 pizza in New Orleans. Pizza Delicious, St. Pizza, and now Forbidden Pizza, have really brought NYC style pizza to the Crescent CIty. You will have to decide for yourself how the top 3 stack up. Quality ingredients are abundantly clear, and you'd swear that it was coal fired, just like the legendary classic joints in New York CIty. This is a thin style pizza, if you like Detroit, this isn't your place, and that's ok. This is unapologetically NEW YORK style pizza, made by people that LOVE New York Style pizza, for people that love eating New York style pizza. Had a split order, pepperoni, and basil, and I can't tell which I liked better. The basil was obviously fresh, and it was so tasty. The pepperoni was the right amount, and the flavor kicked! I'm so happy this place opened, and for those folks in New Orleans, we've got another great choice for good pizza!

Gary C.

Yelp
Fabulous NY Style pizza. Very friendly and helpful service. Love the new bar and bartender. I ate 2 giant slices on Wednesday and Thursday so I have tried 4 different varieties. The Italian Stallion is the best but really liked Forbidden Fruit and All for Tru. Only request is a Happy Hour drink Special.
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
One of our employees asked us to get everyone pizza and so we did. It took about 30 minutes longer than was promised, but they are very large so you can feed a large group of people. It was very busy due to a review from a famous individual recently. I would say that the bartender was extremely friendly and the Mojito was very good.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
The fig pizza is so delicious! The crust is thin and flavorful just like New York City! The service is great as well! It is great that you can buy pizza by the slice.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
This pizza slaps! They notch up the experience with fresh basil and they grate parm right over it! The options were great, service phenomenal, and a full on pizza shop vibe. Love it, I'll be back! Also, reminds me of my Jersey shore summer boardwalk days!

Carl H.

Yelp
Best pizza I've had hands down! Slices are huge and the the ingredients down to the crust are phenomenal. Although I'm a traditionalist and got The Basic and Italian Stallion, they recommended the Forbidden Fruit with fig jam and bacon on it...unbelievable flavor. Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. Loved the vibe and atmosphere!
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
When I saw Dave Portnoy give this pizza an 8.3 I had to try it! We were in New Orleans for my wife's birthday and she loves pizza so what better time than to stop in and see if his rating was justified. It's located in the city of New Orleans so obviously parking is going to be hit or miss. We ended up getting a spot about 2 blocks away, it was after 7 so the street parking was free. It's a walk up and order type place so that's what we did, walk up and order. I looked at the menu beforehand so I wouldn't be holding up the line. And there is definitely a line. They were very busy. I ordered the whole pepperoni pleaser and a slice of the forbidden fruit pizza. The forbidden fruit was delicious! Stick with me here, it's a pizza with fig jam, bacon, and mozzarella. It sounds crazy but it actually works and it was actually the star of the show! The pepperoni pleaser was exactly that, loaded with pepperoni. While it was good, it is LOADED with thick sliced pepperoni which made it a little greasy, actually a lot greasy. It's a New York style pie so it doesn't really hold up well to very many toppings. Still a very good pizza. If you don't mind it a little greasy and a little hard to eat then you won't be disappointed. In the end we actually said that we wish we had ordered the whole forbidden fruit. It was really that good. You will seat yourself in the small seating area and they will bring out your pie in a few minutes. Don't think this spot is going to be a typical date night spot, because it's not. It's downtown New Orleans in the heart of everything and it's loud, pretty loud music and lots of boisterous people. We would definitely go back, we would just order a different pie next time.
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Great new pizza bodega in the CBD, their special slices are particularly great. The cost is a little pricy but this is as good a pizza as any you will see in NOLA. The difference here is the crust. I dont know what they put in it but the crust here is different from anywhere in the city and it is excellent.
google avatar

James J.

Yelp
Stumbled across this hidden gem in the Central Business District of New Orleans in my search for dinner. I have been on a pizza kick lately and Forbidden Pizza does not disappoint. With a charred crust that you might find in a wood fired pizza oven, the crust is crispy and chewy all at once. The sauce has a nice tang and the ingredients are fresh. The burrata is delicious and the small curled slices of pepperoni are perfect. Not only can they make a mean pizza but they can bake to boot! The cookies are fresh, soft and chewy, and tasty. There's not much space except for a bank of seats along a bar facing the window but I was told that they will be opening up a wall to the adjacent building to increase their dining room space. Only open for a month, I hope they are around for a long time to come.
google avatar

Yosef M.

Yelp
Honestly, one of the best pizza I've ever had in the United States!! it's a true gem and I highly recommend definitely will be back!!! 5 stars !
google avatar

Ricky W.

Yelp
FACTS! Absolutely AMAZING! Pizza was the $#!t Service was great and the vibe is nice! Check this place out if you love pie and want to just chill. Def worth the trip.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Brand new interior and really nicely decorated. Sliced pizza came out super quick. The forbidden fruit pizza was delicious as was the meat pizza.
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
Amazing Brooklyn style pizza in the warehouse district. Stopped by this place on there grand opening and grabbed a couple of slices while walking the dog. Super thin crust, just like I like it, the topping were high quality, love the added touch of the fresh grated parm, can't say anything bad about this place to be honest. Currently there space is small with only a few stools inside for counter seating and a few tables outside HOWEVER....they are currently renovating the space adjacent to them and plan to open a full service restaurant so I'm told. Can't wait for this gem to blossom! Go check them out!
google avatar

MJ B.

Yelp
We ordered the fig, honey and prosciutto pizza. It was crispy. Too crispy. Like it tasted like a cracker not a pizza level of crispy. I wanted desperately to love this but I just didn't. I'd prefer St. Pizza for a more authentic NY style slice of pizza.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Tried Forbidden Pizza for the first time and wow--absolutely blown away. I had both the Original Sin and the Pepperoni Pleaser, and they were outstanding. The undercarriage on both was perfect--crispy, balanced, and held everything just right. The toppings? Insanely good. You can tell real thought and quality go into every ingredient. This is easily some of the best pizza you'll find anywhere around. A must-try spot for any pizza lover. Also, the vibe is great and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back. Cheers
google avatar

Homer M.

Yelp
Excellence joint for quality thin pies with a wide variety of flavors to get your fix on. We would return here because of the prompt service and knowledgeable bar service.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
Bomb spot. I finally got by to check it out. Pizza was delicious. Hot, crisp, perfect crust and beautiful toppings. Amazing Brooklyn style pizza. Staff was friendly, service was great, and loved the bar. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Kurtis J.

Yelp
Another spot we ended up visiting twice because of circumstances. Definitely quite the bustle getting in-and-out of here. We weren't able to try a full pie which may have changed the overall rating but it's a good slice.
google avatar

Sherwin A.

Yelp
Delicious crust, fresh toppings, and perfect balance of flavors. Quick service and great value. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yumi H.

Yelp
Pizza crust was . I ordered the Forbidden fruit with fig, pepperoni and hot honey. I put an order online and skipped the line! It's a pretty small spot, but theyre opening a bar and additional tables soon!

Jereme B.

Yelp
Showed up with a party of 8, family and friends. Pizza is def the best in New Orleans and the best we have had a as a family. The drinks (margaritas) were strong!!! So good... This will be a mandatory stop every time we come back to NOLA!!
google avatar

Vince F.

Yelp
This was the best pizza in my life, no the sauce and the crust is unbelievable. You have to try it, trust me.
google avatar

Marcia W.

Yelp
From a New Yorker, the claim of Forbidden pizza being from Brooklyn is a far cry. What makes it NY style is that one can order it by the slice and not by a whole pie. We ordered on a Sunday evening and had hour wait...that's normal time since the wait up in Jersey/NY is about 45 mins to an hour for a pie. We ordered the Four Play (four cheeses): had sauce and tasty ingredients but for a 4 cheeser, it was lacking cheese - it's more like a 3 play...or a sad hand job. Garden of Eatin' was lacking cheese as well- pizza slice was super thin, although the taste was very good. My husband came in and sat down, looked and the first words out of his mouth was, "where's the cheese?" Forbidden pizza has fresh ingredients, but lacking the ingredients for the 20" pie they boast about. NOT NY STYLE PIZZA. Way too thin, no dripping of the oil as you fold the slice in half, and not enough cheese. Forbidden Pizza is forbidden in my household. We went to Zees after dropping $96 on two pies and truffle dough bites (no truffle taste). Zee's Pizza uptown boast Jersey/NY style pizza and it's true!!Freaking Delicious!!
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
Got to go here while visiting over the weekend just after Dave Portnoys review! HOLY MOLY! Let me tell you, Dave's 8.3 made a line out the door! I'd go and say easily one of the BEST PIZZAS I've ever had in my life! Well done!
google avatar

Al M.

Yelp
Forbidden fruit pizza was a suggestion by the cashier. So I tried it and was surprisingly pleased with the taste...

Discerning Chef ..

Yelp
I had some initial thoughts going in this place. I just needed a quick bite to eat. I've done a ton of pizza reviews and this looked a bit different than the norm, But the line out the door was a good sign. For a couple reheated slices, which I never try to do for a review, these were banging. Fresh parm and basil was a great touch. Super crisp quite a surprise, I'm gonna have to order a whole pie to do a proper review. Super fast as well despite the absolute chaos that was going on in front. Great work. Edit: I went back to this place, sat down and ordered some fresh pies. Slices started disappearing before I could even get a picture taken. So much better fresh! But that kinda goes without saying...Bangin pizza...
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
This place is legit. It's up there amongst the best pizza in the city. Apparently I was in the right spot at the right time heading to a Saints game and passed this place. It was their grand opening and they were giving away free pizza and ice cream. Bing Bang Boom! And for the female Yelp reviewer who rated this place only a 1 star review but gave Papa John's a 5 star review, please lay off the illegal narcotics.

L B.

Yelp
So incredibly yummy. I came here after all the hype I've heard and it definitely didn't disappoint. When I went, the line was insane but no worries because they definitely move fast. Gotta try forbidden pie!
