"A longtime dive bar has closed its doors; its three-tap, paper-plate approach will transfer to new ownership that intends to rename the spot but largely keep its character intact." - Dana Hatic

The best burger I’ve ever had! Great staff and an excellent local hangout. Don’t let the cash and alcohol only deter you!! An excellent sport for Mainers, I’d argue the best!

Cash only, but they have an ATM. Food is delicious and more affordable than a lot of places in the area. Everyone behind the bar has always been very friendly, starting with Rick who retired a few years and carrying on with the new bartenders. I also love that it’s been around since the 1930s, as one of the first bars around to reopen after prohibition. It’s definitely a neighborhood gem!

Force gardens is the best down to earth bar in all of Portland Maine. This place reminds me of my my late grandmother and the best part is their extremely well priced food and classic pub fell. FYI they don't blast music so loud that you can't even hear yourself think it's actually a nice mellow place to grab a beer and meet people.

Looks like your grandparents basement from the 1970s. Tile floors and panelled walls, but it's a great little place. Locals abound. And the food is great bar food. Burgers, fries, cheesesteaks and onion rings are yummy. They have a decent beer selection and all of it is inexpensive. Don't miss it.

Don't come here if you're even a tiny bit pretentious. Come for the burgers! Not sure exactly what he does to them, but they're among the best I've had, at any price (and these are cheap). The steak sandwich is on point also. An authentic Maine experience.

This is the best local bar in the entire city. If you want to hang out with old men, watch sports games, and get a classic clam or hamburger with a side of fries, This is definitely a must go to.

A visit to an old stomping grounds to meet up with long time friends. A great place for a beer and burger. A stop with Father Piacentini after our 50th graduation. Great place to meet friends

Forest Gardens is that bar where they actually know your name. Going here you can always expect a sporting event on the television and good priced food and drink. This is by far my go to bar. I’m a simple gal though so I like the simple stuff.

Yelp
Great double cheeseburger with LT& Mayo. Great fries. Deee-licious! Beer & Wine only, Cash only, but reasonably priced. Neighborhood bar feel, friendly bartender/cook. Baseball on the TV. Fun hang!

Yelp
I didn't grow up in Maine but was still really interested in checking this place out. It was actually an incredibly entertaining experience. First off, I found out about this place browsing google maps. I see Forest Gardens and I'm thinking it's some plant store I'd never heard of. Check the google reviews and I learn it's an old Portland local dive and apparently they have the best burgers. So I drag the whole family there thinking we will get some good ass burgers. They have a small green neon sign in the window but their main sign is a beer sign up top the building. LOL this place truly is a dive but in a really good way it was just such a funny experience. We were the only ones who sat at a table looking to eat. The interior is very low key and the crowd has been around the block. Nice people but we got a funny stare from the guy who took our order. The food is really not much better than school cafeteria food. This place is a great place to go if you want a drink and want to watch sports on TV. I hope it never goes away!

Yelp
Uninhibited Dive from the 1970's Forest Hills, an institution in Portland is a real throw back. We went in and simply had a few beers and watched a game. The bar is full of grizzled bar veterans. I read up on the story how the city wanted to knock the place down to build another shitty CVS. Please don't. All locals recommended the bar because they know it's history and bare bones purpose. To drink and get drunk. No frills. Thanks

Yelp
This is Portland's best blue collar, neighborhood bar. The owner, Rick Piacentini, tends bar during the days and does a great job. The menu is very small and simple. The burgers are good. The ambiance is sports bar. The clientele is mostly middle aged and male but it is a welcoming place and after a few visits you, too, can become a regular. If you like neighborhood bars, this is your kind of place.
