Where to Find Iceland’s Most Exciting New Geothermal Pools

"Opening in February 2022 in Akureyri, Skogarbod, also known as the Forest Baths, overlooks one of Iceland’s longest fjords. It is surrounded by birch and pine trees, providing shelter from harsh winds. Guests can forest bathe and soak in a natural geothermal lagoon with pool bars. The journey through the forest to the spa reveals a wood-clad building set into the mountainside, offering fireside dining with views over the bay and Akureyri."

Went in June 2025 with my husband and three year old. We would prefer this every day over the blue lagoon. Easy 7 min taxi away from the cruise port. No issue getting a taxi at the port or to return to the port. Prices are very reasonable for the experience. We paid $143 for two adults and three towels. The staff was amazing. The locker rooms were super clean and orderly. The soap, shampoo, and conditioner provided for the showers was awesome. The drinks at the swim up bar weren’t even priced too high (for Iceland). I’m so glad we decided to spend a few hours here unwinding.

Clean and modern facilities with heated floors in the locker room were exquisite. The two thermal pools were delightful and the large pool with the bar was very relaxing. The cold pool was nice but smaller because of fewer people staying in.

Beautiful baths with sauna, cold bath, big pool, bistro. Very clean. But your face will probably end up on social media… so many people with phones and cameras taking pictures (yes, even if it s just a bathing complex). The pool can be pretty crowded and kind of loud. The ambiance is more like a bar where people are having drinks in the pool and having fun. Which is great if that s what you re looking for. For relaxation and tranquility, i would look at other options.

Great place to relax and unwind. The contrasting hot and cold pools, along with the sauna were wonderful. Whilst many took phones in, I really enjoyed spending some time with no watch and no phone to properly chill out. Very well priced for the facilities too, and the shuttle bus to the ferry terminal makes it easy to visit from Akureyri.

We didn't plan to visit this place, instead we wanted to go to a more popular lagoon near Reykjavik. However, we loved it so much that we stayed around Akureyri for another day, just to be able to come again to Forest Lagoon. At the entrance, you will pay and get a bracelet that you have to keep on you during your time here. You can use it to order drinks at the bar, and pay when you leave. They ask all guests to take a shower without underwear prior to entering the pool. There are open showers, but also private ones. The temperature of the water in the pool is 37 degrees Celcius, which is just wonderful, it's perfect 👌 There is also a smaller pool with even warmer water at 40 degrees. There is a Finnish sauna, and a small pool with cold water at 12 degrees Celsius. The sauna is of decent size, but can get crowded. There are 2 bars where you can order drinks. The prices are high, but fair, considering the fact you're in Iceland, and at a place like this. Around the pool, there are tables with benches where you can sit (in the water) and enjoy your drinks. When you're done with the pool, there's a cool machine that helps you dry your swimsuit. It doesn't become fully dry, but it does get all the excess water out of it, leaving it almost dry. In case you don't bring your own towel or swimsuit, you can rent them here for a small surcharge. The lagoon is open until 23.30, and you have additional 30 minutes to dress and leave, until midnight. In our opinion, it's best to come around 7 PM or 8 PM, and stay until the closing time, as it will be less crowded (people start leaving around 9 PM).

How amazing it is ! Our family found that experience incredible, between the hot baths, a cold bath, and a great sauna. We had a lot to do, and the cocktails were amazing, really tasty, the emplacement was beautiful, and the changing rooms were clean and really great. Better than Blue Lagoon, see you, Forest Lagoon <3 Iceland never disappoints.

Great thermal bath Wish they had a hotter pool- they only have the big one and another that is not as hot There is a cold pool- cold showers and very warm sauna. Beautiful place 5min away from Akuyeri. It's a bit expensive compared to others. The drink and cheap in the pool They are very strict with towels outside of even personal water bottles

Kind of nice spa at the edge of a forest. Friendly staff. I did not find the comlex that authentic as some others in the Islandic countryside. The water smelled of too much chlorine, like a regular swimming pool (especially the upper pool). It was nice to have a Finnish sauna and a cold pool. The spa is nearly perfect.
