Our recent experience was extremely disappointing. Not only were we not informed that the hotel was undergoing renovations, but we were placed in the very building where active construction was taking place.
There were multiple active construction areas with easy access directly from guest rooms. Just steps from our room was an unlocked door left ajar that opened directly into a construction zone, presenting a significant safety hazard, particularly for families with children. Additionally, electrical panels were left open on every floor. When this was raised with maintenance, we were told this was intentional. My only thought as to why this would be is for easy access to shut off power to the construction site, this does not appear safe.
We spoke with several other guests during our stay, none of whom had been informed of the renovations prior to arrival. Compensation varied widely among guests, ranging from a small percentage discount to full reimbursement. Staff advised that it was not their responsibility to inform guests of renovations, stating this fell on third-party booking platforms. However, even now, bookings can still be made without any disclosure of the ongoing construction.
When we raised concerns specifically about our family’s safety, we were met with eye rolls and laughter from staff, which was both dismissive and unprofessional.
Ultimately, we received only partial compensation and were instructed to pursue the remainder through the third-party booking service. This entire experience was handled poorly and raises serious concerns about guest safety. A building undergoing active renovation should not be open to guests, particularly at full price.
Pursuit operates within a national park and the town of Jasper, and as such should be held to a significantly higher standard when it comes to transparency, professionalism, and guest safety.
