Forest Room 5 kinda defies definition. The decor is creative and creates this outdoorsy treehouse vibe, which is super cool. It also lends itself to a casual feel, because how fancy can you be in the middle of the woods? I've heard it described as a "dive bar," which I wouldn't disagree with, but how divey can you be while serving beautiful, pricey boards of charcuterie? As I said, the place defies definition.
Usually I drink beer or simple mixed drinks here, but last night I had a cocktail and was pleasantly surprised. Again, another reason I wouldn't quite call Forest Room 5 a "dive bar." I ordered the Huckleberry Lynx ($10), which might be described as a Moscow mule with blueberry and sage. It was lovely and refreshing.
The bartenders aren't particularly friendly, but they're just trying to keep the place running smoothly while dealing with drunk people who aren't ready to order. The East Coaster in me appreciates the efficiency, but others might find it off-putting. Don't take it personally...or do, recognize what you're doing wrong, and get your sh*t together. If grabbing a round for a group, collect IDs for every drink you plan to order.
Someone mentioned it being too cold to sit outside. Probably true some nights, but worth noting they have fire pits out there. The cute, woodsy decor also extends to the outdoor space.
