The Manhattan Bar Directory

"Forgtmenot is a dive bar meets a surfer’s living room meets a Greek/Tex-Mex diner. In other words, it’s awesome. This is a great move if you’re waiting for a table at Kiki’s or Dimes or Mission Chinese nearby, but it’s also a worthy destination on its own. Your evening may start out innocently enough with just drinks, but once you see the ridiculously huge menu, you’re going to want to get in on the kebabs, nachos, and breakfast tacos (yes, even at night)." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg

Where To Go That’s Like Kiki’s But Isn’t Actually Kiki’s

"Forgtmenot is about as close to Kiki’s as you can get without actually going to Kiki’s. For one thing, it’s literally right next door - and it’s also owned by the same people. Plus, these are both both dark, crowded spots where you’ll almost definitely overhear at least one group of Australians arguing about whether Sydney or Melbourne is better. Everything on the menu at Forgtmenot is under $20, and the bar food - ranging from lamb meatballs to burgers to a platter of grilled shrimp, chicken, and steak - makes this a good option for drinks and something filling before a night out." - bryan kim, matt tervooren

Google
Came here on a whim to grab dinner. Wasn't sure what to expect but it always appears to have a good crowd. Overall it was a pleasant surprise. The bar was hopping and the food was good. Would recommend stopping by for drinks and food if in the area.

Google
Really cool spot with a relaxed, fun vibe and friendly atmosphere. The food and drinks are really good and reasonably priced. Perfect place to hangout with friends!

Google
Came Here ordered a few drinks the place had a horrid odor. prices were on the higher end found it very annoying to see after they rushed us out they added gratuity to our bill and then the check made this unclear as it still asked for gratuity as though they didn’t already get the 20% fee on the initial copy

Google
Ordered steak frite medium rare togo, was presented with a container 2/3’s full of fries with 2/3’s of a well-done steak inside. Cute atmosphere, but definitely a “millennial burger restaurant”. Dimes square is dead, and this place is forgettable.

Google
I can't rate the food because on the day I went I didn't have any. The place was full on Saturday which is when I stopped by. The atmosphere is fun and lively but everyone is cool. The bartender was nice. The prices of the drinks are good. There aren't too many beers on tap. The place isn't very big but it appears to have more space towards the back. I will definitely go back and try their food. I came back on 11/2/24 on a Monday. I have to say that I enjoyed it even more than the first time. Still didn't try the food. Giovanna the bartender was super nice. It seemed more like a neighborhood bar this time around.

Google
We had chosen your place to enjoy a beer after work with a friend. Later, a few more friends joined us, and we briefly took a moment to decide our next steps. During that time, the floor manager approached us rudely, seemingly annoyed that we hadn’t immediately waited to be seated. Ultimately, we decided to stay at the bar. When some of us were ready to leave, I asked to pay for myself and the friends I was originally with. I was told that I could either pay for the entire bill or half of it — a surprising and unreasonable policy. Despite the poor service, we paid the full amount and still left a 5% tip. However, the floor manager followed me outside, touched me on the shoulder, and said the tip was an “insult” before walking away. I responded that her attitude and behavior were the real insult. No one is obligated to tip for rude or dismissive service, and if that’s how you treat customers, it’s difficult to see why anyone would feel inclined to reward it. I hope you understand that this kind of toxic attitude only harms your business. Wishing you the best

Google
How can anyone forget Forgetmenot? This place is full of character and great drinks. The food looked good too, I just wasn't hungry. Popped in on a hot day. Cold margarita and cool breeze was just what the doctor ordered. Many neighborhood locals and their teeny dogs were also hanging out, inside and outside. This a great place with history and flavor. Happy to have stumbled upon it. You should too

Google
Forgetmenot Bar is a hidden gem! The stakes were cooked to absolute perfection—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. And the buffalo legs? Unbelievable! Crispy on the outside, with a perfect balance of spice and tangy sauce that keeps you wanting more. The vibe is relaxed yet lively, making it a fantastic spot to unwind. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Forgetmenot has easily become one of my favorite places for great food and a fun night out. Highly recommend stopping by!

Yelp
Great service from a friendly bartender named Angelie. This is my second time here and the vibe is just as good as my last visit!! Surf bar feel to this place; I feel like I'm in Florida with the decor and hospitality. I will be here soon to try the food. Gianni, the Greek Mf'r is the MAN!!!! Tell them Chris aka Dave and Ben from across the street sent ya!!!

Yelp
I usually love this place but the service was honestly terrible. I've never left a review, but Kiki the bartender was very rude.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
The place seems like a dive bar with intimate seating for food as well. Dress is definitely casual. Service for a moderately filled place is relatively quick. Despite the price ($), the quality of food continues to impress. The steak in the steak with fries was cooked to the intended degree. Also, the waiter's recommendation to have the chorizo tacos either chipotle mayo sauce was on point. Will be returning to this neighborhood place for some good affordable food and drinks!

Yelp
This place is always popping whenever I pass by. They were one of the few open early and on Christmas so we decided to check it out. Definitely a dive bar feel. Dim and dark. Not sure how the kids would feel but they had fun. The food was surprisingly good! Travis bowl - what a great healthy option. The blend of cous cous, arugula, egg and topped with grilled chicken ($$ extra) made it a really worthy meal. I liked that it came with dressing and hummus Avocado toast, chips and guac, and tuna salad - both dishes were happily wolfed down. Great portion and reasonable prices. Everything was great and service was friendly and kind. Great spot for brunch!

Yelp
Fish tacos were okay. They used to be really good, but on this visit, they were on the bland side. I'll be back to try other dishes.

Yelp
The server was super chill and the whole vibe of the place is really cool. It's decorated like a surf shack or something, which makes for a casual and lively atmosphere. I got the steak frites and I'm pretty sure it was either skirt steak or hanger steak. It was cooked perfectly medium-rare and was incredibly tender. The chimichurri sauce that came with it had just the right amount of kick and was packed with fresh olive oil and either parsley or cilantro (I couldn't quite tell). All I know is that it was delicious! The fries were thin and crispy, just the way I like them. And to top it all off, I ordered a watermelon margarita that was both refreshing and strong - the perfect combo. All in all, I'd definitely recommend checking out this place. It's a great spot with tasty food, strong drinks, and a fun atmosphere.

Yelp
Owned by the same group behind the nearby Kiki's (which I love), Forgtmenot has been on my list for a while. Though I haven't actually gotten to dine in here yet, I did recently order a Travis bowl for takeout. I forgot to specify a dip when ordering, so I didn't get any of the jalapeño yogurt, but definitely will next time. I dressed it at home with some vinaigrette and it was still really good!

Yelp
I usually like this place but then I sat outside. Terrible experience. I got smoked on the entire time, from other customers at their non-smoking tables as well as by staff smoking outside in the middle of the crowded seating area. Really awful disregard for their own rules and patron's health. It felt like a sick comedy. I really hope they reassess their priorities. Felt very trashy.
google avatar

Yelp
This has been our go-to place. Consistent drinks and food! I usually go for a Mezcal Negroni and a Breakfast Burrito. Being a vegetarian I swap the chorizo with avocado. I wish they'd offer a (meat free) soyrizo option for this. Great service and my kind of vibe.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
Food good and great pricing. Funky vibe is very relaxing, great to watch a game. Drinks reasonable prices, also table service via lots of beautiful staff!
google avatar

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday morning and got some drinks lol. It's a cute grunge bar and a local favorite. Lots of Europeans were coming in to watch the soccer game, and it was the perfect spot. It felt homey, it was indoor-outdoor; it even had seating out back. Drinks were reasonably priced! Staff was super friendly. I'd return and recommend!
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
I needed a place to sit and wait for my bus so I decided to try this place. The sandwich was really good! There were people at the bar even at the off hour so I could tell it's a place with regulars, that is usually a good sign. They didn't mind me sitting around just listening to music for a little while I was trying to avoid standing out in the cold. I loved the lights inside and all the stickers on the walls.
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Stopped by here on the way to Metrograph. Was told it's cute and has solidly okay food. The food was not even 'solidly okay'. How do you mess up a quesadilla like that? It's SO HARD to mess up. I got it as a safe option and because we were in a bit of a rush. But after a long wait I was served a quesadilla with extremely dry chicken, stale tortilla, and almost no cheese. Cocktail was watered down as well. Gave this place a shot and it was a big mistake.

Yelp
Great spot! Food was delicious and quick. Drinks were out of this world. Would recommend to anyone needing good vibes and good.

Happy M.

Yelp
Fav spot in the neighborhood. Can always get a table and food/drink is reasonably priced. Love this place.

Yelp
I came in alone on a Friday afternoon. The place was fairly empty. Plenty of empty seats. I was first offered the seat directly in front of the door but I declined because it was quite chilly outside. I was then led to the back and was given the seat directly outside of the bathroom area. As soon as I sat down I immediately felt rushed. The waitress walked past me numerous times to ask the table next to me if they were ok. Never checked on me once after setting my plate down. I flagged her over for the bill when I was done and quickly exited the place. Food was OK. The shrimp po boy was more spicy than actually flavorful. The fries were ok and the "salad" lol was fine I guess. I had a grapefruit margarita which was ok. But it came out to less than $30 so I was ok with it. Left out less than satisfied with the service.

Yelp
Great ambience and service , tasty food Nice crowd, friendly proprietors-they aim to please-mixed crowd-date or friendship nights !

Yelp
CHECK Credit Card Account after going!!! They charged me EXTRA than what was on my receipt and what I tipped. Luckily, I caught it, but I know there are people who don't check their accounts. I'm not sure if they targeted my friend and I as we are Asian women in our early 20's. Whether it was intentional or on accident, it's still not acceptable. Although the food was decent, it's incredibly rude to charge customers extra on their credit cards. There was nothing special about the watermelon juice and they were fairly small, too. I'm pretty sure you could easily make it at home with the same quality. The Hootsla ($8) and Quesadilla ($13) were okay though.
google avatar

Kiyoshi S.

Yelp
Got the Travis bowl $12 to go. Comes with jalapeno yogurt. Didn't know it came with the yogurt. The salad was pretty disgusting without the dressing. Nicely cooked egg on top of barley, tastes like bread-flavored quinoa/fluffy rice. Bitter arugula and fresh tomato. Probably a bad choice of mine. Very filling.

Colby D.

Yelp
Amazing food! I was sold on the breakfast all day choices they had. The service was great and the ambience too. I met with friends for drink after work and we were quite surprised on the coziness and nice ambience inside of this bar. Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
I'm leaving the country soon so my friends thought this would be a good substitute for Kiki's, which had a 45-minute wait on a rainy Thursday night. Luckily the owners of Forgetmenot and Kiki's are really good friends so they offered two dishes from Kiki's on the menu. I really wanted to try Kiki's pastitsio but they didn't have that at forgetmenot so I got the moussaka instead. It was great - everything I wanted and more! The calamari was delicious too but I rather the sauce was something other than yogurt. My friends didn't like the burger they got but the tacos were fine. The place was tight but super cute with throws for patrons who got cold while sitting by the window. However there is no sign for both Kiki's and Forgtmenot which make them a bit like speakeasies. My group definitely overstayed our welcome but the staff was really nice about it.
google avatar

Azemina L.

Yelp
A solid dingy (in a good way) dive bar. Great service, good space for multiple groups with a separate back area with its own bar and vibe. I didn't eat but had some spicy margs which were pretty good for a bar.
google avatar

Jenny O.

Yelp
3.5 stars. I came here to check out their fish tacos and the watermelon margarita. The fish tacos were decent. The batter was light and served on a bed of lettuce and radish, with two sauces on the side for you to build your flavors. I thought the fish could have been fried a minute or two longer, as the color was not quite golden brown for that flavor and textural contrasts. It also needed some sriracha to help it along as the sauces were both creamy. The margarita tasted a bit watered down for my liking, but perhaps I like stiffer drinks. But I did like the chill, SoCal vibe here, and the staff was quite friendly as well. I think good bar food overall - I was just on a mission for amazing fish tacos.

Yelp
My favorite place to get brunch on the weekend. Super affordable, delicious, and a charming atmosphere too!

Yelp
I'm from out of town, was in area looking for place to sit in the sun and enjoy a cold beer. Came across FMN and loved the ambiance and local hang out feel. Service was great!

Yelp
The all-day breakfast is the most underrated thing about this place. The breakfast burrito is my go-to hangover cure. Bring back the cornflake cookies!!

Yelp
After a dim sum Christmas lunch feast in Chinatown, my alcoholic friends and I wanted to go day drinking. We found Forgtmenot on Yelp and they were one of the only local bars open. What a gem! Seriously, we weren't expecting this place to be so awesome! The decor is so cool and the service is great...and they make some MEAN DRINKS! Anything from their cocktail menu is going to be good. Personally, I became a fan of their spicy margarita. It's huge, strong, and not too badly priced considering its size. I may have had more than three...and less than ten. Yolo. Alcoholics need food, right? So we ordered nachos with steak and the hummus with veggies. Both were good. Also...I remember none of this but apparently we ordered the cornflake cookies. Why do I know this? There's a picture of them in my phone and in my Snapchat story...so I guess they were good too? Kudos to the staff that had to deal with my rowdy bunch.

Samus F.

Yelp
I ordered an Uber eats of their mixed grill plate, which costs $29.00, so I was expecting a good amount of food. Instead I was give an incredibly tiny amount of food, the chicken was pretty old and thin, felt like it had been sitting out for about an hour. For that price this meal was very underwhelming.
google avatar

Dave F.

Yelp
Came here for a light dinner and a drink on Christmas Day. The outside has no real name on it, though it may have been blocked by a Christmas tree. It looks super divey both in and out, but the charm suites it well. Once seated, the service was super good. The menu is relatively basic but the options are plentiful. I ended up getting the shrimp po boy and my friend got the Travis bowl. The Travis bowl came with a jalapeño yogurt that was phenomenal. My sandwich and fries were also pretty good. Nice bigger pieces of shrimp. The fries were a well seasoned shoe strong variety and dipped well with the sauce that went with the Travis bowl, haha. These two dishes were recommended to us and turns out great. The beer selection was about standard but they appear to keep a nice German bottled beer on hand in addition to the drafts. Would recommend this spot.

Paula C.

Yelp
If you don't like Forgtmenot you are a hater! It's as simple as that. Gorgeous and homie bar, Great drinks and amazing prices by the way. And please don't get me started on the food. Their Shrimp Santorini is to die for. Greek fries and steak sandwich is so delicious . Their staff; kind, open and they make you feel right at home. My favorite bar in NYC.
google avatar

Maxi L.

Yelp
Came here for brunch, we always passed by this place but never ate here. It's pretty good I got the Boston breakfast instead of baked beans I got sautés spinach! we also got the breakfast Sammie pretty awesome too. I would definitely come back to try dinner.

Crystal R.

Yelp
went there for wings. placed my order then after 20 min. and having to ask about my order they then tell me they were out of wings. this was my third time this having an issue Just this month! i give restaurants several tries before i come on here to let people know not to waste their time. 2nd time I was there 2 weeks ago for the yogurt fruit bowl. yogurt was SOUR. the month before i called in to see if they had salmon (there has been a time where they've sold out when i got there) so the waitress tells me yes in a v rude manner. I get to FGMN and now the waitresses have an attitude. this short guy bartender was a complete asshole was very entitled as if he owned the bar or something and it was a horrible visit. I've been here 2 other times and found hair in my food and still tried to come back and give it a shot.
google avatar

Yelp
If you manage to find yourself here consider yourself lucky one of the last true Lower East Side hang out with great food great service and an awesome neighborhood
google avatar

Abe A.

Yelp
aparently you cant smoke outside although i have before. on a pretty cold fall day i sat outside solely so i can enjoy a cig with my drink. karens sat outside when they could have sat inside and the waiter told me to put out my cig with is bs.
google avatar

Selina L.

Yelp
I have to admit, I didn't want to like this place. I pass by it all the time and it is just so unapologetically hipster and crawling with the same likes of people. Yet I somehow found myself seated in a cozy little nook in the middle of the restaurant on some random Saturday afternoon, the only quiet spot in the whole place. I ordered the lamb pita - generously sized and perfectly grilled pita stuffed with the perfect portion of lamb and cucumbers and sauce. Came with a side of half salad/half fries too, which were actually quite tasty on their own. My friends ordered the greek pasta (loved how uncomplicated it was but still delicious), and the chicken avocado BLT (that sourdough bread is A++). A surprising hit was our side of BBQ chicken wings. The sound level and crowd can get pretty rowdy inside, so be warned if you're not into eating around noisy soccer fans ("football", SORRY).
google avatar

Gerald C.

Yelp
They chill AF. But don't yelp them! It's stupid!! Lmao ...yelp says i have to keep writing... so... don't you want me baby, Don't you want me ohhh, Don't you want me baby, Don't you want me ohhh. Swag

Jade F.

Yelp
Staff is friendly and environment is nice. I ordered steak and fries for pick up which I have before the first time was perfect - the last time I ordered a rare steak and they cooked the heck out of it. I was craving steak and I gave them another chance but again they cooked it a lot. And for someone who like's their meat rare the amount they cooked it was completely opposite. I like this place just disappointed again.

Maggie K.

Yelp
the people who work here are so nice. the first time i went my phone died and the girl found me a spot at the bar where i could charge my phone. when my friend got there and we moved to a table and the girl made sure there was an outlet there too! how considerate. the vibe is cute and a good place to catch up with a friend over a cheap glass of wine. don't tell all ur friends so it stays lowkey.

B T.

Yelp
Food was good, really busy night and didn't wait for food long. Service otherwise was slightly slow, hard to get your check. Overall good.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun spot to grab a drink in Chinatown. Interesting drink menu. Kitschy and fun, and service was so kind and hospitable. Definitely lots of locals enjoy the homey, cozy vibe.
google avatar

Bernard F.

Yelp
Let me tell you, Forgtmenot was definitely fabulous. The ambiance is certainly nice. The menu is really great, plenty of really good choices, I had to go with Lamb Pita Sandwich, and it was amazing. The staff was attentive, quick, and extremely pleasant. Everything is good here.
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
Oh yeah this is the spot. Everyone is so nice, the spot is mad cozy, and it's unknown to the average New Yorker. The stickers and art is really cool. Food and drinks go hard. This is the spot like I said.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
The only negative i can say about this place is that I didnt find it sooner. What a gem in a random area of LES/Chinatown!! I am a beer drinker and they have some beer drinker options on tap. Also, the amazing bartendress offered us a couple of watermelon margaritas, dont mind if we do!! They were amazing!! Loved everything about them. So tasty and delicious. Not something I would order on the regular but I was the only one, people were crushing these things. A solid little spot for dates or gatherings. I highly recommend and will most definitely be back.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday, around 1:30PM, to get brunch with two friends. This place is small and would probably suit smaller groups (3-4 people). One of our friends was late so my friend and I decided to just wait for her in the restaurant because it was scorching hot. They were really nice and didn't rush us to order or anything. We just sipped on our waters and talked for a while before deciding to order Greek fries because our friend was taking so long and we were starving. The plate of Greek fries was big. The fries were thin and were just crispy enough. Paired with the feta cheese, it was delicious. I devoured the fries and by the time our friend came, there was only a couple of fries left on the plate. I ordered the Egg Avocado Toast and my friends ordered the Travis Bowl and the Breakfast Burrito. I didn't try their dishes but both looked really good and the portions were generous. My order was good and the egg was bigger than the toast itself! I loved how fresh the avocado was and the seasoning was good. However, if you're bad at handling spiciness, you should let your waitress know because my lips were tingling after eating from the pepper flakes! This place has a really hip and cozy vibe and I can see myself coming back to try other dishes for brunch :).

Tara V.

Yelp
So glad to happen upon this cozy spot in China Town. Friendly staff, cool stickers and whatnot on the walls. Had a couple of drinks ... didn't eat but the food looked gooooood.
google avatar

Juliya G.

Yelp
This is a cute little neighborhood spot with lots of character. We had the Greek Fries, which were decent. They could stand to have a bit more crunch to them though. We also tried the San Francisco Shrimp, definitely the winner of the two. It had a lot of great flavor! For my drink, I had my first Irish Coffee. Although I have nothing to compare it to, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was warm and satisfying, not sweet, just like I like it. The waitstaff was great too. Marcelo, thanks for the memories.
google avatar

Ruggy J.

Yelp
My drink has always been the spicy watermelon margarita with a salted rim, but i was pushed to drop a spicy rim this evening. My new drink has now been formed.
google avatar

Annette G.

Yelp
What happened?! I'll keep it short. The service is lackluster, waitress shrugged her shoulder when we asked her what she prefers, we ordered a steak and they didn't provide a steak knife, etc. Do you know where are waitress is to give us the check?....me neither. Let's move on. Food: Nachos- under a layer of jalapeños our sad stale nachos sit w/ blah pieces of chicken. Whatever they were ok. Steak frites-charged to death w/ chimichurri that tasted nothing like chimichurri. Fries were lame as well and nothing could drown out the taste of char. Overall experience sucked but I'll probably end up back here anyways.:/

Yelp
I had to quickly find a place in Chinatown to gather my colleagues that is... -close to the subway -has a bar -delicious food -happy hour prices -accepts cards -open before 5pm -good for groups This place was very delightful-peaceful during Wednesday's happy hour, friendly staff- above all they were incredibly FAST and checked on us often. We had less than an hour to get everyone fed and tipsy before moving on to the next event. Thanks everyone! We came to the right place and had a good time
