Formaggio Kitchen Expands to Kendall Square | Eater Boston

"A 40-year-old Cambridge cheese shop is expanding with a fourth location at 94 Hampshire St., just outside Kendall Square (near Lord Hobo and Gypsy Place Coffee and Juice and a few blocks from Oleana). The site, which previously housed an Edible Arrangements, opens Friday, December 28 at 10 a.m. and features ample kitchen space, basement storage, and some front retail — though retail won’t be the main focus. The new outpost will carry familiar products from the other locations, including cheese, and primarily serve to accommodate the shop’s growing catering business, easing crowding at the original Huron Village store. Its catering offerings include cheese and charcuterie platters, mezze platters with stuffed grape leaves and olives, hors d’oeuvres, sandwiches, salads, and tray bakes such as lasagna, mac and cheese, and moussaka." - Dana Hatic

I never even considered my favourite English cheese would be available in the US. It's small batch, hand made, unpasturized, one dairy herd type cheese. So imagine my absolute delight when my sister in England found Formaggio Kitchen Online and sent me a 1lb chunk of Stitchelton. The best Stilton-esk blue cheese ever! It arrived in perfect condition despite the outside temp being a little toasty in SW AZ. Then I look on the website and I know my Christmas Cheeses are sorted! Even in England this stunning cheese is a rare find! Now doing a happy dance...

This is a review of the Friday barbecue. I've gone by it several times and it always smells amazing, so I was excited to try it. Overall, our group enjoyed the food, but the price for the portion was high, and the website could use some additional information. Food: the ribs, brisket, classic pulled pork, jalapeno cheddar cornbread, mac and cheese, and potato salad were popular in our group. I thought the brisket was the highlight - really flavorful and tender. I though the mac and cheese wasn't that cheesey and the special pulled pork was a little too vinegary for my taste. Portions/price: We weren't sure how much food we needed to order, but the internet advised us to order 1/2 lb of meat per person and some sides. Accordingly, we ordered four 1/2-lb portions of meat and a full rack of ribs, plus 5 side dishes and 2 cornbread muffins, for 6 people. This cost $19.90/person with tax, so we expected a good amount of food. It was enough that we weren't hungry anymore, but we weren't very full either, and it ended up feeling a little pricey for what we got. Maybe some recommended portion sizes would be helpful. Online information: we pre-ordered because the website made it sound like we had to, but when we arrived it became clear that people can order directly from the stand on the sidewalk, and there were additional options like sandwiches available that weren't possible to pre-order. Our order was in the fridge, so we had to heat it up rather than eating it right away. The pre-order pickup was inside the shop rather than on the sidewalk, but there were lines in both places so I'm not sure it saved us any time. Maybe we just missed something, but it seems like it would be useful to provide more information on the website about the options available for ordering so that people can choose what works best for them.

Great spot, came in town for travel and wanted a break from eating restaurant food. Theyve got a nice selection of cheeses, artisinal spreads/preserves and a range of fresh baked breads. Solid place

Small shop filled to the brim with a vast assortment of cheese, breads, and more! Just walked out with a toasted ham egg and cheese sandwich this time but it was delicious. Loved that the egg was still a bit jammy and how buttery the bread was. Need to come back to try all the other offerings as they looked god as well!

I love this place! People form staff are super friendly and they will always help you based on their great recommendations! The variety of products is great and you can get a lot of imported goods that are difficult to find anywhere else! Oh, and you can try some of their products... they have an amazing selection of cheese!

I don’t know what I would do without this corner store! I go here for breakfast when I need a treat (croissant, cinnamon roll), they have lunch fixings for a Friday, as well as charcuterie and reasonably priced wine selection for the weekend. The homemade dips are all incredible, there’s even a variety of high quality meats in the fridge. In addition the bread comes in fresh every day and is very reasonably priced. The staff is so friendly as well and frequently hosts small wine and cheese tastings which I enjoy. Overall, watch your wallet but you’ll find no shortage of things here you’d like to take home and eat!

The selection of prepared goods was excellent. Our conversation with the man at the cheese counter was enjoyable and we purchased a few new cheeses to try. When I asked about black garlic in the grocery section he actively went out to get information for us. Thanks so much!
