The Best Kosher Restaurants and Markets in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Formaggio Mio, a self-described family bistro, features classic Italian-style entrees, including paninis, pastas, pizzas, and a great selection of vegetarian burgers and fish dishes. Though most folks stop by Formaggio Mio for pizza, the pasta entrees here, like the pasta bolognese made with Impossible meat and the eggplant parmigiana appetizers, are worth ordering. Formaggio Mio is one of the few kosher restaurants to open on Saturday nights after the Sabbath ends, beginning dinner service at 9 p.m." - Robbie Medwed

Google
Wonderful experience! The service was friendly and efficient, and the pizza was absolutely delicious – fresh dough, rich sauce, and generous toppings. We enjoyed every moment and will definitely come back. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
They are really nice, soup is good but avoid the fries. Spicy fries are regular fries that aren't crunchy and just a bunch of red pepper on top. These aren't spicy fries.

Google
We like to support individual local restaurants whenever possible. We stopped by here to have a late lunch and had a nice (Greek) Athens pasta and a cheese quesadilla appetizer and soft drinks (from cans). Service was friendly, but slow, with only one other person on the restaurant. Interior is spartan with widely separated tables and a bar for eating. I don’t believe they serve alcohol. What dropped the star rating to 3-stars was that a 20% gratuity that was automatically added to the bill, with an option to add additional 2 to 7%!!! We don’t appreciate

Google
Good food and decent service. All the food was tasty, although some of them could use more spice. The presentation of the food was nice. The ambiance is modern and clean. The server kept on leaving out items we ordered, but was otherwise polite. I would go back next time I'm in the area.

Google
Nice place! Good food and service. Atmosphere felt homey, like an old fashioned American diner. I wasn't in town very long and didn't have time to try anything fancy, but if I come back I'll definitely try some of their pasta or their pizza! Edit: Also the negative reviews from people complaining about the gratuity clearly do not understand the costs of operating a kosher restaurant. If people were more charitable and understanding, this wouldn't be necessary. I always tip at least 25%. If you want cheaper food, go eat at a non-kosher restaurant. This restaurant serves an important role for the Jewish community

Google
I recently visited Formaggio MIO, and overall, I enjoyed my meal. However, my experience was marred by the mandatory 20% 'service' fee added to the bill. I get that costs have gone up, but costs have gone up for everyone. Of this mandatory tip, only 16% makes it to the workers?! Please raise your prices if you need to pay more. The mysterious 'service fee' practice is not a good one.

Google
I have always enjoyed visiting this establishment; however, I have not visited in the past month due to the challenge of finding kosher food options for my entire family. This has been disappointing for me. During my recent attempt to place an online order, I experienced a prolonged 20-minute wait on hold. The customer service representative I eventually connected with displayed discourteous behaviour, frequently disconnecting the call and lacking basic customer service skills. Despite these setbacks, the quality of the food itself was commendable. This was especially disheartening given the 30-minute drive I made to collect the order.

Google
This place was terrible. We are in Atlanta for the weekend and thought this ‘higher rated’ place was for us, it was not. Everything was bland and flavorless. The sauce was 99% water. You’ll get better garlic knots at Domino’s. Do NOT waste your money here. My overall rating is a .1/10

Yelp
I can barely boil water and I could cook better pasta than this place. I wouldn't recommend. Maybe for half the price but it was not worth the price.

Yelp
Nope, don't choose to pay a 38% gratuity. Deceptive payment/tipping practices override the good food. The pizza was very good. Service was adequate but not memorable. The bill included a 20% gratuity. This was for two people and we didn't linger or anything and I do not think it's mentioned on the menu. I went to pay via the QR code, which takes you to the Toast Takeout app. This app added another 18% tip on top! Over $38 for two slices of pretty good pizza. 18% of 25.98 + 20% of 25.98 + 2 $2.32 tax = $38.18. The only good part of this payment scam is that they don't calculate tips by including tax, as so many places do.

Yelp
I love that this place is kosher. The pizza reminded me of Italian New Jersey style. We got the white sauce pizza too which was super flavorful and satisfying. We also got the baked ziti which was okay, it def was not anything special but the pizza was my favorite.

Yelp
I hate to give a bad review for one of the few kosher restaurants that we have, but this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. I used to like this place. It is a disaster now. Service was absolutely horrible. My husband got his food immediately but I had to wait 40 minutes. Owner could not have cared less. One employee was just sitting and reading on the phone in pajamas. At the end, it took them a while to even accept our payment because they could not figure out the computer. Definitely do not depend on these people for any type of special event.

Janine N.

Yelp
Horrible service. They include the tip in the bill so they don't have to have good service and they don't. Had to ask for ketchup 3 times, Ranch dressing twice. No refill on water. Waitress did t stop by and ask how things were going. Etc they make no effort to get food rating. Only kosher pizza place around. So where else are kosher jews going to go eat. I've been there 3 times. Still the same horrible service.

Yelp
I think the pictures speak for themselves. The salmon salad was literally a raw filet. I asked politely to send it back. The same piece of salmon was cooked longer, with no replacement of the meager greens from the salad that had been in contact with raw fish. Pizza would have otherwise been acceptable but it was far too charred/burned for my liking. Not only was this whole experience distasteful but I left concerned that I would be sick from the food. A few hours after I'm doing fine, but would caution against this place or at the very least order something completely different.

David Y.

Yelp
Expensive but we liked the dishes we selected. The salad was very fresh, cold, and crispy and the pasta dish was very good and not gummy. I would go again but for a special time not anytime.

Yelp
The pizza is pretty good the only thing I didn't like it was the veggie spaghetti nothing special for a restaurant meal. Prices are good

Yelp
A very authentic kosher restaurant with friendly service a great food. The pastas and pizza are extremely good. I recommend the baked ziti or Vodka pasta.

Ira G.

Yelp
This place has such great potential as a kosher establishment! The pizza and pastas are great. Happy to hear they will be there extending their hours, adding music Thursday nights and a breakfast menu for Sundays. It is easy to improve this place and make it a most favorite spot for a kosher meal because there is are already good things about it to start. Some ideas and suggestions to add would be: *Please bring the previous fries you once had that were not the current crinkle cut, but the regular fries that were fried to perfection. *Instead of the TV and add nice music (not pop or modern stuff) but music most people will find enjoyable like Spanish or Italian; instrumental music that is beautiful and does not overpower conversations at the tables. You want this place to be one where families can go to as well as couples for a nice relaxing dinner out. Something to appeal for casual meals out as well as as a date night. *Offer stuffed pasta on the menu like stuffed shells, tortellini or ravioli (btw, tortellini soup is easy to make). *People enjoy a "build your own pasta" with several different sauce and pasta choices as well as different vegetables/cheese to add. Example would be: PASTA: Penne, Linguine, Spaghetti, Fettuccine, Angel Hair, Gluten Free SAUCE: Marinara, Alfredo, Pink Sauce, Vodka, Olive Oil & Garlic TOPPINGS: Bell Peppers, tomatoes, Artichoke, Olives, Spinach, Mushrooms, Mozzarella Cheese, Parmesan *Offer nachos on the menu (Corn Tortilla Chips, Melted Mozzarella and Cheddar Cheeses, Guacamole Pico De Gallo, Sour Cream, Sliced Jalapeno) *quesadillas (Flour Tortillas, Mozzarella and Cheddar Cheeses, Pico De Gallo, Lettuce, Sour Cream, Guacamole) *Offer one dessert of the day FRESHLY made at the restaurant * ordered a latte once and got what tasted like an espresso with a splash of milk. Instead, offer different flavored lattes and cappuccinos and train the staff well with an expert who shows how it's done. Although if this is too much, then just having a really good regular and decaf coffee available is more than enough, like Lavazzo which will blend well with the Italian theme since it's an Italian brand. *Easy to get inexpensive yet tasteful art for this place which the walls are really needing. Some are found in places like Ross, Marshals, Craig's list or thrift shops. This would add a sense of beauty and pride to the place. * Make sure staff look happy to be there (this is a general suggestion, not because anyone looks unhappy here!). I can see this place becoming the busiest spot for families and couples alike who are in the community or just visiting. It's a wonderful place!

Yelp
Uncooked pizza. High prices. Missing ingredients. Overworked waitress. Nasty sarcastic owner or manager. Sure I fuss they are new so when he came around and asked how things were, let him know that. Then we got the comment other than that how did you enjoy the play. He did offer to take pizza we had eaten off of and put it back in the oven. Told us they didn't serve cheese in a shaker because it was a health department thing - and putting served food back in the pizza oven is okay? Where were the pizza toppings. Margarita pizza had a few little pieces of diced tomato on top. I felt Cheated.

Yelp
Not a good experience, rude staff, got the order wrong. Kept me waiting at the sign that says "Order Pickup." 10 minutes after standing there, another lady walks in and stands behind me. They look around me and ask her if she has a pickup order. They help her then turn their back on me and walk away. I say I need to pick up an order. The lady at the counter was incredibly rude. The order was completely wrong, cold and not very good. Won't go back.

Yelp
Oh my God, Formaggio Mio was truly superb. The price is perfectly affordable as well. Sensational flavor. Staff are super lovely and service is very swift. Anyway, they have a good thing going here and I'm glad I stopped in.

Yelp
I went here with a couple friends for a Friday lunch. I will start by saying that the wait staff was excellent. We didn't really know how many people were gonna show and had some cancellations. No issue though. I appreciate things like that. I asked my waiter what they were known for, and he informed me that it was their pizzas. While I LOVE pizza, I just had some two nights previously. So pizza was a no go. So was a calzone - which also sounded nice. They do offer up a bagel plate. When I asked where they got them from, I was informed a kosher deli in New York. Well then, I gotta get that. I got it with a side salad. The bagel was OK. Nothing too exciting. The salad came with no dressing - which was weird. My friends did like their pizza and calzone though.

Yelp
Last week my wife and I gave this restaurant a 1star review. It was our first visit, and everything that could go wrong did. Today we decided to stop in and discuss our issues. We spoke with a manager who was not only apologetic she insisted that we give her a chance to make things right...and she did. We decided on the spot that they deserved another chance. This is the way to run a business.

Elena K.

Yelp
Rude girl behind the cash register. Will go back and forth with you when an order is wrong insisting she is right and when proven wrong there are no apologies or even the rechecking of her attitude. I'll never spend money here again. I'm a waitress myself but this business is making a mistake letting a young girl run FOH by herself with no manager to let her know that she shouldn't be so defensive and rude when an order was made wrong. I know she didn't cook or prepare the food herself. Even if the order was made wrong, it was okay since its literally a $8 mistake and something that can be made in 15-30 minutes. I used to spend over $100 for dinner and leftovers for my kids here but the attitude I got here was crazy and so unprovoked. She's ruining your business.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and try to support our local businesses. Two months ago we ordered a pizza and it wasn't good. No problem. I will give them one more try. I ordered a pizza today. It was HORRIBLE. There were so much grease the bottom of the pizza was like a wet sponge. We had to trash the whole pizza. I won't be returning NEVER.
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
We were told to wait by the owner by her holding up 1 finger which is weird and rude. A simple we'll get right to you would have been fine. They weren't even busy. We waited for 20 minutes for some one to come with menus. Oh and no water. The waitress acted as if she could have cared less if she was there or not. You can be tired and a good wait staff. Then when came back with no water and even worse attitude. We bounced and went next door to Thai Chili. Menu looked interesting with kosher food and pizza and pasta and Mediterranean. I'm cool when someone has a bad day but this seemed intentional.

Gayle G.

Yelp
Can't find enough polite negative worlds for our experience. Went there because we wanted fish dishes and also to try the Impossible Burgers. Took someone from out of town and was totally upset. We were a party of 6. Waitperson was extremely slow in coming and taking our orders. Once they were taken everyone got there meals, even a pizza. However one meal, and probably the easiest to make, never came. The. Hummus Felafel plate never arrived. No one seemed to care. No one came to the table to say "sorry" or try to make things right. But then the check came.....and guess what....the meal that never arrived was on the bill. Again the owner was there but didn't seem to care!!!! Never again. And it's too bad as there aren't many opetioms in Atlanta.

James R.

Yelp
The service was very good and friendly. The menu is not accurate anymore. We went there for pizza, beer and smoothies, all listed online and on the menu, but were told they no longed serve beer and smoothies. We ordered a large pizza but they were out of stock on large dough, then no vanilla ice cream either. Striking out at every choice. Should have left then but the waitress was very sweet. We ordered a medium pizza, which was good, not greasy, maybe because it's kosher. We also tried a bagel but it came with sour cream cheese. Got another bagel but it was microwaved until it was hard as a rock. Food experience poor. Service great.

Yelp
Everything was perfect.. from food to the service . The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. We had pizza, salmon salad, pasta and cake. I can't wait to come back

Yelp
Friends picked up pizza from here to bring to the pool today and it was the best thin crust simple pizza I've had in a long time!

Yelp
Great food all around. Pizza especially good with specialty individuals pizza. Also pasta and salads galore Clean and friendly place all newly renovated Family friendly and vegan friendly Kosher dairy Italian
google avatar

Rose S.

Yelp
The Atlanta Gem. So happy to have this place so close to home, i can officially consider myself a regular! They theye such a wide variety of dairy and fish options that it's truly hard to choose. I highly recommend the onion soup and the authentic brick oven pizza/calzones, and as a New Yorker take my word. The staff is absolutely darling and attentive and the atmoshphere... well, just walk in, it's says it all. Check this place out, I can't see it disappointing anyone.

Yury A.

Yelp
Nice dairy kosher spot menu ranges from good pizza pies to pastas and bite size appetizers. Staff is friendly and welcoming hopefully this place stays in business in years to come as kosher restaurants in atlanta are slim pickings. Will be coming back

Yelp
Love what they did what this place. My kids love their pizza and we have made this our to go place. Would recommend the fish and chips as well as their paninis.

Chaim A.

Yelp
Atlanta's only kosher certified (by Atlanta Kashrut Commission) dairy restaurant. All cheese is Cholov Yisrael so even the frum frummies can eat here. I had the pasta alfredo and it was delicious. I mostly order cheese pizza and carry out as I don't like taking long lunch breaks. My one dine-in experience was great. I get smiles and thank yous when I pick up. This is a fantastic place to eat and my wife and I will return soon.

Hana S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved it! Ordered Julie's salad (w/ tuna, Niçoise salad looked so yum so I had to add it) calzone, and some french fries! Delish. Salad was super fresh (no soggy/wilted greens) and everything was done perfectly without being greasy/oily. I will definitely order from this place again! Highly recommend!

Anne M.

Yelp
Honestly, our experience was so bad I have to share. I'm giving two stars cause the food was , well, decent. Not amazing at all. I ordered fish and chips for $14.99 and it was four small pieces of fried tilapia with a small mound of fries. I never got a drink. Even after I walked up to the bar and specifically said I needed a water, please. Never got it! We were there to celebrate a member of our group and her dinner came 30 minutes after everyone else's. AND they charged her for it, even though the order had been lost (or whatever happened there). The service staff were obviously frazzled and confused in general. Will never go back. It was overall just a really bad experience. The calzones looked good and I wished I had ordered one of those.

Julie L.

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant and it was fantastic! Salmon Caesar has bite-sized salmon pieces that were perfectly cooked. No breading on the salmon, of course, so I was pleasantly surprised at the crust on the salmon. The cheese was nice and salty. Croutons were wonderfully crunchy. You must try the dessert sushi. It was fruit rolled inside chocolate fudge with a coconut dusting and it was the best dessert I've had in weeks. I appreciated that the restaurant wasn't too loud, even though it was filled almost to capacity - I feel it's hard to find places where you can hear each other talk sometimes. Servers were very busy but I noticed that one of the owners jumped in to help get drinks to a table that had just been seated.

Lea C.

Yelp
My family and I stopped off here on our way back to Florida and we loved it!!! Starting from when we walked in, everyone who works here is just so super friendly and inviting, it makes you feel so comfortable. The food was amazing! Everything was super fresh and full of flavor and definitely one the best pizzas we have eaten. Would recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves in Atlanta and is looking for a great place to eat.
