Formosa Cafe Chinese Restaurant

Update 8/14/2025 I’ve ordered from Formosa again to try and give them a second chance. And boy did they deliver ! The food was nice and hairy just like I didn’t order !! Then when I called and explained my situation about the fact that I was leaving for work and this was my first meal of the day. They told me to just return the food whenever I had a time for a refund so they wanted me to hold onto this food for whoever knows how long and bring it back to them. Health department and osha needs to pay them a visit Unfortunately Formosa was my go to place but after very bad business on their end from their answering services they lost me as a customer and someone who always told people about Formosa. They promised delivery in 20-30 mins after a hour I called and cancelled my order, about 10 mins later the driver calls to let me know he will be pulling up with my food and if I still want it (acknowledging he knows I cancelled my order) I said no I want my money back I’m not even hungry anymore, my food was probably cold, he leaves. It is now 6 days later and they still haven’t refunded my money. Very bad business practice.

I want to thank Formosa Chinese restaurant for being an amazing Family run business. Their food has love and flavor in every dish. I frequented another restaurant for 36 years. They decided to change their seasoning of their dishes to more of a bland non appetizing menu. I returned to Formosa and this will be our Family Chinese Restaurant moving forward. Formosa, thank you for the AMAZING FOOD, you will have my family business from now on. If you want amazing Chinese Food, with good flavor that will make you want more.....Formosa Chinese Restaurant is the only place in the Spotsylvania - Fredericksburg area.

The worst sweet & sour chicken That I’ve ever had. Dried up hard little pieces of nothing. And was told by the manager that’s how they do it. Never again for us ewwwww

Tried this place for the first time tonight and it was disgusting. The food was inedible. I ordered the dinner combo with white rice and there were hard pieces of rice like it had not been cooked all the way. Barely any beef in my meal - mostly onions. There was also a hair… I should’ve known by the filthy restaurant & the cook microwaving food in the back. I called to let them know and ask for a refund and they wanted me to bring the food back to the store so they could inspect it.

I ordered 3 lunch meals 2 orange chicken and one general tso's. The chicken right away after the first bite you can tell it's low quality chicken, it was definitely dark meat which gave it a interesting taste. The rice was over cooked and flavorless, the egg rolls had no flavor either and very watery. Over all I am glad I got food here today so that I can hopefully save someone else from a disgusting meal.

Longest in operation chinese takeawsy place in the area. Food is still budget friendly. Location is kinda convenient.

Hard to find a good Chinese takeout here...but we did! Had a special order leaving out certain distasteful veggies and they, well, got it half right. The quality and quantity of the food entirely made up for their mistake which I will emphasize on my next order. Yes, we will definitely order from them again which we won't say for any other Chinese restaurant in the area. This is it. It's a bonus that the owner is a lovely person, completely friendly, likeable and personable....see if you can find that elsewhere. Our new favorite for Chinese takeout. Two critiques: cut the broccoli smaller and use leakproof containers. Thank you Formosa!!

The worst customer service ever time I go. Lady is rude as hell. I had an order of spring rolls (4 to an order) there were only 2 packs of ducks sauce in bag I asked for more she proceeds to tell me it's some in the bag I said there are only 2 so she ask how much more I can only give you x amount like sauce should've never be an issue especially when I'm tipping and all I ordered was rice and spring rolls. I literally only eat here because of convenience the food is ok and the service is horrible.

Different management. This place is not what it used to be. Food is bland. They also said they would have to charge extra if I wanted more sauce. Was a go to forever. Looking for something else now.

After changed the ownership, the food become very blend, no flavor. I ordered the orange chicken that does not taste like one. Not sure the cooker has been changed, but I won't go back there again.

It's a very small place, really only for Takeout. They really don't have much skill at cooking or seasoning, but the food is edible. Is it better for you than McDonalds or Sonic? eh, probably. You can get vegetables after all, and there's likely less salt. Price wise, it might be slightly more expensive than McDonalds, but Chick-fil A might be pricier for the amount to food. Sometimes I just don't want the strictly typical fast food and Formosa Cafe is an option. It's not going to impress you especially, but I haven't tried all the choices. It's a truly little "hole in the wall" place and has been around a long time, it's not fancy. I've never been treated rudely the few times I've ordered food, so I don't know what those people in the reviews could have done to be treated "rudely", they're just normal people.

This place has some good wings but their food taste like it's old and has no good seasoning at all. Would not recommend.

We've been ordering from Formosa on Leavels Rd since 1989! When we first moved to Fredericksburg, we literally lived out of Formosa's back door! They've always been the best around, when we moved again, they were still within delivery distance. We ordered from them last night and once again, dinner was amazing. We were told our food would be delivered in approximately 55-65 minutes, it came in 35 minutes! I'm sure this is not always the case but we always get our food quicker than we are originally told! Check out this place y'all. You will not be disappointed!

This is hands down my favorite Chinese food!! The food is very flavorful and the portions to price Paul is is really good! The owners are always so friendly I actually pass several other restaurants to come here because it's that good and I'm very picky and judgmental on my fried rice! It's all about the quality of the food! Get some!

A Fredericksburg classic. Good food from a locally ran business, can't get much better.

Worst Chinese food my family has had. Our food was gross and dry and not what we ordered. Spoke to manager and he sounded super kind but would not fix the issue. Instead he was noting our account for next time we order. We won't be ordering again. Taste of Chine in fredericksburg va is the best . p

We just moved to the area so we gave this place a shot. Sorry to say the food smelled awful when he walked in the door. We ordered two wonton soups and a combo plate of lo mein and fried rice. (side note: they run combos all day that include an egg role and soup). First of all, the wonton soup was salty (even for wonton soup). I expect lo mein to be greasy but it was greasy and just did not taste good. My husband picked up our order. While I was eating my lo mein he told me the place was filthy....at that point I was done. Sorry I can't articulate more. Some Chinese food is just bad.

Fried rice was the worst. The rice was crunchy because it was under cooked. The other food was just ok. I wasn't impressed with the general tso's chicken at all. I expect general tso's to include broccoli the food was bland. They didn't put much effort in their food. I was very disappointed but hopefully Panda Express will open soon.

I have been sick with the flu this past week. I have gone now 2x's this week to get their hot and sour soup. It is great! And the girl behind the register must have remebered me and ask are you feeling better. I would suggest anyone with the flu or sinsus go and get their soup! Great prices and great food. Where else are you going to go and get a quart of hot&sour soup for $2.50!! Sorry Jasmine but you are full of crap!!

We had delivery this evening and the food was outstanding. This is the first place in the Burg that I have found that has great Lo Mein, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Hunan Shrimp was awesome. Hot and Sour soup is the best anywhere, and they deliver. I will definitely order here again.
