Could This Tiny Island in Michigan Be America’s Best Fall Escape? | Vogue

"After the steep climb to the fort, I reward myself with a milkshake here—made with Guernsey Farms ice cream—while sweeping views rival the indulgence." - Christine Chitnis

The Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes on Mackinac Island | Eater Detroit

"Pony up, and get yourself inside Fort Mackinac, the oldest building in Michigan. If authentically costumed soldiers, the sound of cannons firing, and the call of “Mess Hall” on the bugle aren’t enough to lure you up that steep hillside, perhaps one of the island’s best-kept culinary secrets will? Did you know that the string of yellow patio umbrellas known as the Fort Mackinac Tea Room is managed by the Grand Hotel? And that they serve milkshakes using Guernsey Farms Dairy ice cream? Nab a table overlooking the freighters and ferries from above, and order that chocolate shake. You’ve earned it after climbing that hill." - Stacey Brugeman

So amazing! What a wonderful surprise while we were Touring Mackinac Island in the horse carriages. We stopped & got off at Fort Mackinac to explore & soak in more history. We were getting hungry & decided to see if this a snack bar. Tremendous surprise! We found a Tea Room run by the Grand Hotel! What!!! Everything we ordered was perfect & delicious! We all loved our lunches. The mountain top view was fantastic! God has blessed us with such magnificent views here on earth. The service was terrific!! Such a sweet surprise!! Be sure & enjoy the hot Cherry 🍒 Cobbler with ice cream when you venture up there! Just wonderful!!

August 2024 - My family of 5 came here to grab a bite to eat and to enjoy the beautiful view. I have 3 daughters from age 7-11 and they loved the food. We ordered the assorted scones, milkshakes for the girls (chocolate and two strawberries) and a board of cheese, crackers and some meat. Overall the food and drinks were very good. The jam and mustard were really good. However, I felt we could have had more meat but other than that the food was good. The view is wild, you get a great shot of the area and off to the far right you can see the bridge. The second server we had was good but the first person we had didn't seem to care to be there. I wouldn't let that hurt my time and I would suggest you come by for the view and some good food or drinks.

We visited this place during our Fort Mackinac trip. We were getting late and kids needed lunch before we explored the fort more. It's a pretty shoddy eatery inside Fort Mackinac. The positive is that availability of food inside Fort. Food was terrible, staffs seemed overworked and didn't care. Our BBQ chicken burger seemed under cooked. The indoor area was antiquated but not at all decorated. None spent any money other than whitewashing the walls. Sit out area had a great view but it was a bit cold in the morning. Anyway we had to sit out. Avoid this place if u can.

Really a very nice place, the food is good, for my part I recommend the scones and the chicken sandwich. The main reason why it is completely worth visiting is because of the views, incredible. Nice place to spend a family time.

Went there for lunch while visiting the fort. Service was just ok. Slow and inconsistent. We both ordered the smash burger. The cook on staff has no idea what a smash burger should look like. Burger patties should be thin and crispy. Ours were thick and gray, no searing color what so ever. The atmosphere was average, stuff was piled all over like the season was ending soon and they didn't care anymore. At least the views were good.

Google
the view is beautiful!! it was extremely windy. we were seated outside by the edge at first but the tables were about to blow over so they moved us to another table without an umbrella. the food is so overpriced!!! $17 for a basic turkey wrap and $13 for the pecan ball. the turkey wrap was mediocre. pecan ball is very good and rich. service wasn’t great- they brought us the check before we finished eating and didn’t offer any dessert. seemed like they were trying to rush us out although we went in the middle of the day and they weren’t busy

We've enjoyed lunch sat the Tea Room at Fort Mackinac on several occasions. This is owned/operated by the Grand Hotel, so food and service are always top notch. On this visit we had the Michigan Cherry Chicken Salad sandwich and a BLT w/Smoked Turkey sandwich, chips, and soft drinks. Both sandwiches were delish and the view from the tea room is spectacular (see the photo). After lunch, we wandered around Fort Mackinac--lots of improvements have been made that make this a tourist-friendly spot. The "soldiers" at the Fort are well informed, entertaining, and make it a "must see" for everyone. Lots of history in those old buildings. The day we were there the Girl Scouts were our hostesses throughout the Fort and they did a wonderful job welcoming and answering questions. Kudos to all!

Yelp
A veranda style restaurant overlooking the bay, accessible only to visitors in the Fort. Very pleasant atmosphere, nice light lunch menu, friendly staff. Had tuna sandwich (nice chunky tuna), and the tea sandwich tier. Four types of tea sandwiches (cheese, cucumber, cherry cream cheese and tuna), 3 buttery scones with 3 amazing toppings: clotted cream, blueberry spread, and honey/cream cheese. The whole experience is a delightful cost effective alternative to the Grand Hotel veranda.

Yelp
The view is pretty and the server was very nice. Service takes a long time. Takes a while to get sat and then getting orders in also takes a long time and getting the bill takes a long time. I know it's a tourist destination so there's no expectation of it being a good restaurant. My sandwich was decent.

Yelp
We stopped here while exploring the fort for some morning/early afternoon tea. We didn't try any food but it did look pretty good presentation wise. They offer iced tea in black or hibiscus and a variety of hot teas including bergamot. Good tea overall, unsweetened and at about $5 a glass as well it's not a bad stop for a mid morning rest. The views here are really the highlight and if you can get a table overlooking the island cliff, this is really where it's at if you want to get lost in a fantasy of being the old money crowd. 5/5 would recommend for a refreshing break to admire the harbor view

Yelp
Only two stars because of the view. It's very nice to eat lunch with the view you get on the patio. The food is very basic overpriced crap. I had the pulled bbq chicken sandwich and it was just mediocre, boring. The service was very slow and inattentive. Only eat here if you want the view!

Yelp
Nice view of Mackinac Island and the Lake. You have to buy ticket to Fort to get to Tea Rm. Grand Hotel runs it, there for small sandwiches on high side.

Yelp
Do you like stale chips and microwaved cheese from a can for $10? Then this place is for you! It's a real shame that Grand Hotel has such little respect for the patrons of Mackinac that they would charge people such ridiculous rates for subpar food and service. For the first time in many many years I left a tip less than 20% because the service was so horrible. That view is unmatched though. Hoping thing shape up there, but from what I have heard it's gone down hill since the Grand took over. Such a bummer.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. It was our first time being on Mackinac Island and so we took the tour at Fort Mackinac. After the tour we decided to eat at the Tea Room at Fort Mackinac. The hostess sat my wife and I down and we looked over the menu. She said someone will be with us shortly to take our order. We sat there for 30 minutes and no one came to our table. Other tables who sat down after we did were served before us. I told my wife it's probably due to my Patriotic shirt. It said "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave in red, white and blue! The wait staff happen to be all minorities. I'm not saying it was because of my shirt but it's ironic that several other tables were taken care of before anyone ever came to our table. As soon as we stood up someone magically came to our table. We told them what happened and we left! On the way out we talked to the hostess as well and she seemed shocked. We will visit Mackinac Island again but we're never going to the Tea Room ever again.
