Wow, the Fort McMurray Airport feels like an airport now! When I flew in, I didn't have to walk into the cold to get to the terminal and it was attached to a gate. Now, they have 6 gates, with adequate seatings, washrooms, and tvs. The seats even have cup holders too.
The upstairs has self serve check ins and I went to the counter to get my luggage tag and put it on the belt. No line ups! Pre-security there's a gift shop, Burger King, Mary Browns, and soon to be opening a Tim Hortons upstairs. Downstairs there's a Famoso and it beside the luggage belt.
There was a line of about 10 people in front of me in the security. It moved well until they had to take a swab sample from a passenger and all the others were left waiting for the staff to finish that.
After security, there's a Jugo Juice, Starbucks, convenience store, and the only restaurant is Earls which can get busy. It's seat yourself but there's no sign so we waited until we were told we could sit wherever. Depending on how busy it is, it might be a good idea to be here at least an hour before your flight departs to ensure you get your food and time to eat it.
The only complaint I have is that leaving the airport on the main level there is only one set of electronic doors. So after everyone has received their luggage, there's a wait to get out of the airport.
Compared to the amenities and space of the old airport, this one is a great improvement! Won't mind flying into this airport again soon.
