6 Essential Tennis Getaways in Europe

"Not far from Sardinia’s capital city of Cagliari, Forte Village is one of the most well-known summer resorts in Italy. Occupying 116 acres of prime seaside real estate doesn’t hurt. But Forte Village is also jam-packed with amenities and activities. The resort counts 10 different hotel concepts plus villas, which means regardless of your travel style and budget, you can likely find an accommodation setup that works for you. There’s also an expansive on-property wellness initiative that revolves around thermal bathing. And you’ll never go hungry or thirsty here: There are 21 restaurants and 14 bars. Sports and fitness are a major focus of the seasonal events calendar. Real Madrid Foundation coaches, for instance, trains young soccer players here during the summer. And you can also participate in a triathlon. For tennis, however, there are 13—12 clay and one hard—flood-lit courts for you to use. (That is when the resort isn’t hosting an official tournament.) And sometimes, legendary players like Pat Cash might even be on-hand to help take your game to the next level."

Belvedere

"Il Belvedere is the gourmet restaurant at Forte Village. Enjoy modern, distinctly Mediterranean cuisine either in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking a delightful garden. Although you pay for a fixed menu, in practice you can choose à la carte; in summer the hotel hosts cooking shows and themed dinners with famous chefs." - Michelin Inspector

Forte Village is absolutely one of our favorite place in the world! My daughter and I look forward to our trip here every year—it’s genuinely one of the highlights of our calendar. The resort itself is stunning, surrounded by lush gardens, a variety of beautiful pools, and the most breathtaking beach you can imagine. We love how much there is to do, especially the fantastic children's activities that keep my daughter happily entertained. And don’t even get me started on the food—it’s delicious, fresh, and always satisfying. Forte Village is pure relaxation and joy wrapped into one spectacular place. Can't wait for our next visit!

Our visit to Forte Village was excellent! We were upgraded to the Castello when we arrived and the room was spacious and clean. The activities were wonderful. The kids loved zooming around on bikes and going bowling and playing in the pools and at the beach. The food was excellent everywhere we went but our favorite dinner was at the forte grill. From the minute we arrived, Valentina took excellent care of us. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. She even got our son a special cake for his birthday! |We are excited to come back again in the future!

The best family holiday we have had in Europe! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Valentina and whisked off on a golf buggy to the reception for a briefing on the site and then to our room. The bungalow was beautifully light and spacious and we had champagne on arrival. |The hotel is luxurious but also so family friendly. The staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble.|The resort is landscaped with lush tropical plants and trees. The pathways are nicely shaded and you can use bikes to get around, alternatively everywhere is easily accessible on foot. |The beach has lovely fine golden sand and there is a concierge on hand to give you fresh towels. It doesn't feel crowded which I liked and there were plenty of sun-beds. The sea is so clear and lovely for a swim! |There is a large choice of incredible restaurants. We used The Tiki Bar, Beachcomber and the Pizzeria for lunch, all with stunning beach views. We had dinner at Hotel Castello each night. The food was fantastic as was the wine! The ambience is relaxed but stylish, I particularly loved the pianist! Again the service was fantastic. The gelato is made on site and is to die for.|We loved the choice of swimming pools too, from a heated pool near the Hotel Castello to the Aquapark with lots of slides. It was impossible for the children to get bored. There is a Wonderland area for children with a miniature town and kids club. The choice of sports and activities is vast, you can book into one of the many professionally lead sports academies or enjoy bowling, tennis, go karting etc as a family. The spa is stunning with a unique 6 pool experience, each one with a unique health benefit. There is also a nature park at the edge of the resort that the kids enjoyed. |Nearby you can visit Pula or Nora, the hotel happily organised a car for us. There isn't much else in walking distance that we found though.|This is just a fraction of what you can do there. It was such a fantastic holiday. The USP being that is is both luxurious for adults but also packed with things to keep all ages of children busy. We will be returning!!

This is my favorite holiday spot of all time—I’ve been coming here since I was 2 years old, and I LOVE it. The staff are so friendly and make every visit feel extra special. The resort is always super clean, the water park is so fun, and the rooms are gorgeous. The kids clubs are amazing, and I have the best memories of Barbie Club when I was younger! This is my 12th time staying here, and I already can’t wait to come back next year. It’s a place that feels like a second home ❤️

We chose Il Castello to celebrate a combination of family events, and were so pleased we did. A truly exceptional hotel, and resort, in every way. ||We were a group of 10 -- 6 adults and 4 children aged from 3 - 10yrs - and we all had the most amazing time. There is something to do for every age. Never a dull moment |The hotel (and garden bungalows) were really lovely. Clean, modern, spacious rooms. |Restaurants were varied with a great food selection. |The main buffet restaurant (Cavalieri) -for breakfast and dinner - was excellent. |Great food at every meal, high quality and plenty of choices for all dietary requirements. Good wine selection and not too expensive. |We also ate at the Dune snd Brazilian restaurants for dinner, as well as the Pizzeria and Tiki Beach club for lunches. Drinks at the Tiki Beach pre dinner were a must, with fabulous views of the beach and ocean.|Clean, safe, white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea.|The sports and activities available - for both adults and children - were amazing, our kids just loved every minute they spent in the kids club, various swimming pools and the water park. The only 'downside' to the main resort pool was that the water was freezing! But the Il Castello pool was heated so that was a bonus!|Varied entertainment in the evening in the main square, as well as lots of shops for some retail therapy. .|ALL of the staff we met, throughout the resort were exemplary - Incredibly professional, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. ||Whilst I could mention many by name, I would like to particularly give extra sspecial thanks to Valentina Dessi (Garden Manager), who is exceptional and really looked after our family. Also, David (reception) and Fillippi (Cavalieri restaurant) - all of whom made our stay even more enjoyable.||This hotel truly exceeded my expectations, and I really do hope that we will have an opportunity go back in the future.

At the start of June visited Villa del Parco and Spa within Forte Village. This was a family stay for myself, my partner and our two young children to break up a longer trip around Sardinia. Our stay may have only been short but it was very memorable for all the right reasons. ||Upon arrival, we were welcomed by friendly staff and taken to the reception to do the usual forms, etc. The kids (4 & 7) were each given a soft toy parrot of the village mascot 'Mario', which they loved. This set the tone for our stay. The children were well catered to throughout, and it never felt like they were just being tolerated which for previous trips to other destinations with a young family had felt the case.||We stayed at an interconnecting bungalow, which was lovely, well appointed and felt secluded. The beds were very comfortable and the finish was to a very high standard. The bathrooms were stocked with quality products and offered both shower and bath which we always appreciate. Having some outside space between activities was well appreciated by all the family. ||As I've alluded to above, there's a real family focus, with lots of options for activities and entertainment for the children. Ours enjoyed a day at the kids club, and several trips to the splash pool. The splash pool or should I say mini aqua park being a particular highlight for them as there were slides and things to play with that suited both ages suit both ages. The kids club also had a train which took the children on an extended route all around the park and they loved it. When we collected them they both had big smiles and lots of stories.||The food offering was excellent. Breakfast was lovely, with a range of quality food and drink to suit everyone (even fussy children!) . We dined at Le Dune on the first night and Belvedere on the second. Both were outstanding. Again, it's worth mentioning how the staff went out of their way to ensure two fussy kids were well catered to - this enabled us to relax and enjoy our food - which isn't always the case elsewhere! Our accommodation was on a half board basis where we had lots of choices (where to dine as well as what to choose on each menu).||We managed to squeeze in a trip to the spa to while the kids were in the kids club, and did a circuit of the Thalasso - I would highly recommend this, we thoroughly enjoyed it.||It's worth noting is that this Village is huge and made up of many different areas joined together by golf-cart serviced walkways through lush forest and gardens. Each have different types of accommodation and inclusions depending on the experience you require. Some would suit families better, some couples, some either. The Dune apartments right on the beach couldn't be closer to the ocean and we hope to try those next time. There was so much that we saw but didn't have time to experience during our short stay... everything looked fantastic and I would happily bring my family back here but next time for longer . There were many pools, a centre square with entertainment each evening, shopping, countless restaurants and even a go karting track and circus tent! ||The real gem of the resort, however, are the staff, who made us feel welcome and like part of the family. Carolina at Villa del Parco was just wonderful, the kindest and most genuine person who made our stay truly effortless. Nothing was too much trouble and she was so warm to the children- even giving them a magnet of their parrot friend for the fridge to take home as we departed.||I don't take the time to write many reviews but I felt this one was highly deserved. We look forward to returning and for anybody looking for a luxurious stay with 5 star service that makes children feel as welcome as adults this place is for you.
