"Sustainable seafood stalwart Forthright Oyster Bar & Kitchen will close at the end of June, the Mercury News reports. Co-owner Angelique Stump told the paper that the restaurant was struggling to recruit managers and veteran chefs, saying that the “high cost of living, the pandemic, the shift in culture has resulted in people not wanting to work in our industry.” She and partner chef Jim Stump will continue to operate their four other restaurants." - Paolo Bicchieri

"Forthright is an all-day restaurant that caters much past the oysters codified in its name. The restaurant serves a trio of raw oysters, including a grilled version with butter and cheese, as well as an oyster pan roast with bacon on a slice of toast over a cream base, a New Orleans dish which most Bay Area restaurants have yet to venture into." - Dianne de Guzman

Food is okay but overpriced for the portion. We felt their food had fancy names but we could easily cook it at home with not much effort. We can tell by looking at the pictures of other customers posted, they don't keep the consistency in the plating or the portions. Ceviche tuna (I forgot the "fancy name") and salmon wings were good, but the pork chop was dry, we felt the other plates were not full meal, some of us were hungry after dinner, so we grabbed some fast food after that. Staff attentiveness is fine but none of them offered to refill kids drink. We always check the bathroom's cleanliness and we believe this is one of the determinations of the kitchen cleanliness. The bathroom didn't look very clean. I usually check bathrooms 3 times: -at the beginning-wash up -middle-after entree -right before we leave. There were lots of staff working there that evening. The bathroom looked the same when I used the third time. This is the picture after I put a few papers in the garbage can off the floor.

Went for happy hour and will definitely be back! Happy hour oysters were an amazing value. Fresh and creamy. Butter roasted oysters and the oyster pan roast are a must as well (everything was super flavorful and decadent). Happy hour cocktails were an ok value—I’d get the wine or beer next time.

Love Forthright!! Their chef is amazing. Not only the regular menu but they always have a couple specials dishes. And of you like oysters, theirs are great. The burger is the old standby. Also can’t go wrong with the mussels. Crab cake amazing. Shrimp and grits if you like creole flavor. And curious or bread pudding for dessert! There’s more goodies but can’t name everything! Pro tip: happy hour. June 2024 update: It is with incredible sadness to say this, but this will be my final review of Forthright as they are closing their doors this month. I’ve loved regularly dining here for the past five years. Their food. Their drinks. They’re awesome happy hours. And their great service. Thank you Forthright for all the enjoyment you’ve given my family, friends, and me. This time: The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table, fish n chips, clam chowder, raw oysters, ACME bread, sardine toast, and oyster pan roast. And a glass of bubbly. Loved them all.

The food is great Some of the dishes are a bit salty for my taste. The toasts on the mussles are very good and the waitress is super friendly. She offers to give us a refill on the toasts when we are thinking whether to get extra bread or not. The tropical favored beer is very interesting. The frozen wine we ordered never got to be frozen, so we didn't get a chance to try it. The atmosphere is very relaxing and cheerful!

Google
We missed the happy hour but their regular dinner menu is full of wonderful choices nonetheless. The clam chowder is a must try and the acme bread on its own goes really well with the soup, there is no need for the sweet cream/salt/olive oil dip that come with it. The burger and squid ink pasta were super delicious. I can't wait to come back and try their famous raw oyster selections next time.

Google
Extremely solid place with great indoor seating and ambiance! We came here for happy hour at 5 and enjoyed the happy hour oysters a ton and got 16 of them total! They tasted extremely fresh and were very flavorful. We also got the clam chowder cup which was small but really tasty as well. Some of the dishes we also enjoyed were the baked oysters which weren’t as good as the raw ones and also the seafood pasta and shrimp and grits. I liked the grits more - they were more unique too. The bread was extremely solid as well and the ricotta cheese in the olive oil gave the whole dish a nice kick. The service was amazing and attentive as well, and we were seated quickly indoors. Would come again!

Google
This is such a great place to come out and eat at if you’re into oysters and seafood. I came in here during Happy Hour where I received great value, $1.75 an oyster which is a steal. The menu is rather small but that’s alright since we ordered nearly everything ranging from the steamed mussels to the HH taco to the heavenly crab cake, it was all so delicious. My favorite had to be the crab cake however, it’s fresh and hot so if you come here, make sure to order at least one of these. Overall, a great place with wonderful food and nice atmosphere. I’ll be sure to return.

Google
Late review because I dined in on Fathers day, but I’d have to say the food we ordered was pretty good! Very important: best fresh oysters I’ve ever gotten beside Marshall Store in Point Reyes. Obviously its an Oyster Bar and the oysters is a must have so please please order it. The service was good even though some of our drinks and the oysters came a little later than usual. It was no biggie as it was fathers day so of course its busy. We had patio dining because of our dogs so I’m happy that its dog friendly :)

Yelp
So sad they are closed... I really enjoyed their oysters, burgers, fish and chips.,,, I've been there several times.. wish the best to the owners and staffs!!!

Yelp
The end of an era! Pretty bummed to hear this spot is closing. I had to try them one more time before they closed their doors on Sunday, June 23. I was sat at the bar, so I had an impressive view of the bar, shuckers, and the grill. Looks like everyone was ordering a burger today! I came here for the Happy Hour Oysters, but I couldn't leave without trying their Old Bay Fries too. Everything was excellent! Great customer service, fresh oysters, and wonderfully crispy fries. I'll definitely be supporting Jim's other locations in the Bay Area! Goodbye Forthright :(

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times now. I usually had frequented during happy hour for special cocktails and cheap snacks. Lately I've been more coming for dinner with friends and picking a bunch of dishes to eat and try. In the more recent years, I've enjoyed the Ouster Pan Roast, the Wedge Salad, Mussels, and their seafood medleys / combinations they'll have from time to time. I will say my more recent visits (last 1-2 years), the oysters have not been as satisfying. I do make at least 2 trips a year to try any of their new menu items. Reservation always seems easy to get online as well. Restaurant is kind of small but the outdoor area is not so bad. Service - 4 / Ambiance - 4 / Food - 4 / Price - 3.7

Yelp
We are so sad! This is one of our favorite places to dine at. Their last day in business is June 23rd, 2024. Please come out and support them! Though, their kitchen and staff will transition to their various other restaurants. https://www.mercurynews.com/2024/06/06/campbell-stump-restaurant-group-will-close-forthright-oyster-bar-kitchen/?utm_content=fb-mercurynews&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=socialflow The service was wonderful as usual! Especially our server, Katherine G. She was very friendly, funny, accommodating, and gave us top-notch service! I'm glad to hear that the staff will be able to go to their other restaurants, but she was sad because all of the current staff at Forthright will not be together. We ordered some HH raw oysters (Totten Inlet Oyster - WA, USA). [From the internet] "The Totten Inlet Oyster is a classic West Coast oyster. It has the signature melon and seaweed flavors and beautifully ridged shells. Compared to other West Coast oysters, the Totten Inlets tend to be on the larger size, averaging 3 to 3.25 inches. And with their relatively deep cup, you can expect a mouthful of creamy goodness." (4/5). They were delicious. New England Clam Chowder: Clams, potatoes, bacon, and corn (3.5/5). Spanish Octopus: Fried potato, shishito pepper, calamansi avocado dressing, yuzu kosho chili (4/5). Originally, they were out of this dish. But they had a late delivery that finally made it to the restaurant. Yay! Good thing my wife asked Katherine about it again. The octopus was very tender and juicy, which just melted in your mouth. This is the tenderest octopus we have ever tasted. Beware, there is some spice that comes from the yuzu kosho chili that was on top of the dish. But it's not too bad. Clams and Toast: garlic, shallots, white wine, calabrian chili, toasted levain bread (4/5). Very meaty and large clams served in a flavorful broth. Mussels and Toast: Our friends thought the mussels were a bit chewy and fishy. :( Seafood Pasta: Squid ink noodles, chopped clams, shrimp, mussels, and tomato fennel sauce. Our friends split this dish. I enjoyed this dish (4/5) the last time I came here. Crab and Trout Roe Pasta: white miso cream sauce, green onions (4/5). Simple presentation, and our server asked the kitchen to split the dish since she knew we were sharing. It came with squid ink pasta, which was cooked al dente. It was a nice creamy sauce filled with pieces of crabmeat. I really liked my dish. Ravioli: ricotta, mozzarella, basil, spinach, tomato fennel sauce, parmesan (3.5/5). My friend enjoyed her dish. I was able to try a bite of hers. Nice al dente style as well. Salmon Wings: soy ginger marinade, pickled onions, cilantro (3/5). The flavor was good, but it was cooked a tad medium well for my liking. Great place to dine with friends, family, etc, and have a nice conversation. It was a fun time with friends.

Yelp
So sad to see this place go soon but our last dinner here was exceptional. So glad their loyal servers are still willing to stick with the place until the end. We unfortunately didn't get our servers name but he was the younger male who said he's been with the team since 2016 and he informed us of the menu so well and made sure our food came out accordingly. Shoutout to him! If you love oysters I would say to come early or else some of the oysters get taken. We came for a 7:30pm reservation and some of the oysters were sold out, but we got our hands on some of them and they were still delicious! Thank you to forthright for their service all these years!

Yelp
Food - ordered pasta, oysters, crab cake, ravioli - mid at best, bland, overpriced - ravioli was definitely frozen and not fresh - portions small, was hungry after - no bread served even though it said complimentary bread on the menu Service - waited 20 minutes even though they said our table was ready within 5 min - we didn't get any service after we sat down until another 20 min (no water) - other table after us got served before us Ambiance - nice outdoor seating - decent amount of parking - cool vibe

Hoei L.

Yelp
Ambiance Upscale food in casual setting. Bar seating, indoor and outdoor tables. Indoor was set up for smaller groups with only 1 table for 5-6 people, not sure about the outdoor seating. Service Very friendly and chill. There were a few regulars that came in, they just walked in to sit at the bar where the servers seemed to know them well. Always a good sign. The check ins frequency were good, we did more of a tapas style ordering with a bunch of starters insteaf of getting entrees and they were able to keep things tidy on our small table for two. Food No complains at all. Pretty close to an upscale restaurant level without the artsy over-the-top plating. The taste profile were excellent in everything that we had. Good selection of fresh oyster on the shell. Hamachi crudo was refreshing with good quality yellow tail sashimi and the right amount of ripe avocado slices, the sauce combined them very nicely. I don't know what they did with the Octopus legs but there was no chewy part at all. Fried frog legs was pretty good, though I would prefer the asian grilled butter sweet soy sauce version that I grew up with. The clam chowder was also good but fairly typical. Dessert menu was not that interesting. I was hoping to get a floating affogato but they didn't have it. And we were just about full, so ended up skipping dessert. Cost Can be quite expensive depending on what you order. We were satisfied with what we had. I think the quality and service, it is about right. The bill came in with a QR code, we paid on our phone without the server having to wait on us to slide/tap or sign. Suggested default tips were 20% but no one's watching. This is the right way to do it, other than completely removing tips altogether. Definitely coming back again in the near future.

Yelp
I really enjoy coming to this place. Been here quite a few times with friends and family. Service is good and the food is delicious as well as the drinks! We always end up sitting at the bar area, you can make reservations if you want table seating. They shuck fresh oysters right in front of you. There is also a clear view of the kitchen. We always get the bone marrow appetizer and the fresh oysters. So good! We also like the clam chowder and the squid ink pasta. The kale salad is so satisfying. We even had the mahi mahi special and it was delightful! Good place to have a low key hang out with yummy food!

Yelp
Totally bummed that this restaurant decided to close permanently. Everything was delicious. Most sad about not having their scallop tacos which was simply amazing 10/10. The oyster pan roast was incentive and very flavorful 9/10. Oysters were fesh, but I can't rate them because that is not my thing. Muscles were good but nothing super amazing, but the grilled bread that it came with was like a drug!!

Yelp
The whole modern and farmhouse vibe sets off a different tone. Love that our friends got the counter seats so that we could view all the action with the chefs and dishes coming out. We took pics of plates that didn't belong to us at all. Our friends recommended their drinks and ordered for us. We were not disappointed. I love the service and how every bite leaves you asking and wanting more. We will be back to try other dishes and bring our kids too. Five stars for this crew! The mix of southern twist and comfort food.

Sara J.

Yelp
I love this spot because it has the best happy hour in Campbell. $2 oysters and $5 tacos? In this economy, that's basically free. I usually sit at the bar and the service has always been spectacular. I've been participating in dry January and their virgin Bloody Mary is the best in the Bay. No cap! Can't wait to go back for more.

Xavier L.

Yelp
It's been a minute since i've been here. Let's just say i should have been back a long time ago. The wait staff has ALWAYS Been friendly. I came here w/ no reservation for a party of 4, and they sat us outside (not a biggie considering it was a walk up). The outside patio is nice & toasty and it was pouring rain outside. They have curtains to block the wind too, so don't worry if you get seated outside. The food is sooo good. Every dish was on point- perfect balance of flavors, good portions sizes, and presentation was solid. We ordered a couple dishes twice. The bourbon selection is top shelf. Pricing on everything is in line with the quality (See pics of Menu). The spot is great for a date night, or first date. No place to really walk around after in the plaza, but the venue itself is cozy. A MUST go to..

Yelp
Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Made reservations on a Friday, got seated right away. It can get packed there and they do outside covered seatings with heaters, but we sat indoors today. Food comes out quickly, however, our drinks took alittle longer, although we ordered that first. *Bread w/ special butter: delicious! *Clam chowder: delicious! Better than other places we've had. *Seafood pasta: it was okay, nothing too special. *Bone marrow: we love this one! So much flavors and marrows. *Tuna sashimi: this dish has a sweet balsamic vinaigrette flavor, if that's what you're into. *Raw oysters is what we came here for. Must try the Kumomato, Beau Soliel, and Malaspina if you like a refreshing oysters. These are our favorites there. *Dessert: Must try their Bread Pudding. This was delicious! We enjoyed our visits there and would come back again.

Yelp
This is an overdue review. I came here for my bday and right when the doors opened this place was packed! They gave us a table by the door which, i'm not going to complain too much, but it was super cold on a winter evening. They have a happy hour menu so that can be why it's so crowded and their happy hour menu looks so good, as those butter roasted oysters sounds soo good. My friend got the happy hour taco which had all the fixed fillings. For the main course i got the uni pasta and my friend got the shrimp and grits. They thought the shrimp and grits were ok . I loved the pasta a lot as i thought it was better than the uni pasta at EMC. It wasn't as heavy and even my friend started digging into my pasta more than their dish. I hope i can come back here every year for my bday.

Lillian N.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to go for oysters! Everything here is always so fresh. Weekends can get a bit busy, so make sure to make a reservation before hand! There is a variety of different options on the happy hour menu for everyone. From various fresh oyster options, alcoholic drinks, ambiance and service is amazing. What we ordered : *Oysters 5/5 *Crab Cake 4/5 *Fries 5/5 *Clam Chowder 4/5 *Tom Collins 4/5

Stephanie N.

Yelp
forthright has an amazing happy hour with $2 oysters and plenty of other great deals. I love ordering the Tom Collins cocktail as it is refreshing and bright! oysters never miss here - always fresh and delish last time we went, they offered us mussels and bread on the house!! I love mussels and this just made me love Forthright that much more. I've gone when happy hour is over and it can get pricey so just beware. typically I haven't had to wait when I come but I usually do arrive early for HH

Kelley S.

Yelp
After seeing good reviews I decided to come here for dinner on Saturday night with some friends and was slightly disappointed. We ordered a couple different items to split and the best thing was the oysters. The sauce that the mussels were cooked it didn't have much flavor, almost just tasted like saltwater with a tinge of butter. The baked oysters were good but nothing crazy. The oysters were fresh and good. The frog legs were underwhelming despite looking amazing. The frog legs had this sauce that was so delicious but none of the seasoning/sauce actually marinated in the meat. The restaurant itself is pretty nice, good for a casual dinner. I can see this place being good for bigger groups.

Melissa P.

Yelp
Forthright Oyster Bar is a great place to enjoy oysters with a happy hour deal of $2, making it a good value for your money. Their shrimp and grits dish is also worth trying, it reminds me of a New Orleans style with its heavy tomato rue and Cajun spices. Overall, it's simply the best!

Bao N.

Yelp
Forthright Oyster Bar & Kitchen is currently one of my favorite restaurants in the South Bay. The staff, the food, and the bar are top notch here and we've had the perfect experience every time. There are so many fresh oyster options here. They have description of the oysters so you can never go wrong. The food options are super fresh and delicious. The girls and I love the Oyster Pan Roast...so much that each person has to order his/her own every time we visit. It is super creamy, fresh, tender, and the bread its served with is perfect. I also fell in love with the Unagi Pasta here with its smoky and creamy delicious sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. Man!!! Everything else on the menu is super good and shareable as well. I love the bar here too. They have all the popular bottles of liquor that I don't see at other restaurants like Fortaleza and other delicious additive free tequilas. They also have Blantons Bourbon Whiskey and so many other delicious options to choose from. Check the price before you order because it can get pricey!!!

Yelp
I found Forthright Oyster Bar and Kitchen during my working life. I had service stops in the area and stopped in for lunch within the first few weeks of their grand opening. I enjoyed their menu so much it became a bimonthly stop for me. I retired a few years ago and rarely found myself in that neighborhood so I hadn't been there in a while. Now that my wife has joined me in retirement we entertain ourselves by going on weekly dining adventures. Revisiting Forthright was an obvious choice. We happened to be there during Happy Hour so we could not resist one of their Happy Hour specials, a glass of champagne and 3 fresh oysters of the day. My wife enjoyed the champagne and I devoured the super fresh oysters on the half shell simply dressed with a squeeze of fresh lemon. For our lunch selection my wife chose Shrimp and Grits. I chose New Orleans Oyster Pan Roast. The shrimp was perfectly prepared enrobed in a mild Cajun style tomato forward sauce presented over a bed of creamy grits. The New Orleans Oyster Pan Roast is a decadent bacon heavy cream based sauce ladled over large fresh oysters presented on fluffy toasted bread. The amount of the addictive cream sauce was so generous and rich that I ordered a side of bread so I could get every bit of it. Service was excellent. Our server was obviously busy but she did make it a point to regularly refill our water. She was attentive without being intrusive. We anticipate Forthright will be a regular stop for us.

Yelp
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. First time we came here, we didn't have a reservation and was trying to do a walk-in. The hostess wasn't friendly and mostly just ignored us. We saw that the bar seats were empty but the hostess brushed us off and wasn't interested in getting us seated. That didn't leave a good impression at all. Second time, we got a reservation. Food was decent but nothing particularly impressive. New England Clam Chowder - standard tasting. Butter Roasted Oysters - creamy and fresh. Oyster Rockefeller - again pretty standard. Roasted Dungeness Crab - it was on the specials menu. The crab was fresh and meaty and the citrusy sauce was light and refreshing to eat. Uni Pasta - couldn't really taste any uni in the sauce but tasted ok overall. Churro Beignets - remember to leave room for this dessert. The beignets were dusted with cinnamon sugar. Airy and doughy at the same time. The dark rich chocolate sauce complemented the beignets well. Overall experience was just ok. Not much incentive or draw for repeat visits.

Yesenia V.

Yelp
Arrived for happy hour and ended up spending a full course meal price lol Our waiter was great and attentive even with the amount of tables he was serving. Tried the clam chowder (good but definitely have had better), the oysters were fresh but they were missing a few from their menu. The mussels lacked broth flavor. Tried both kat nip and espresso martini- both were well made.

Devin M.

Yelp
After a morning of wine tasting my girlfriends and I went to Forthright for Happy Hour. We ordered 8 of the 12 main dishes, including two burgers and three tacos. We also ordered fries and two bowls of chowder. Unfortunately for the other foodies of the world, the food came out one dish after another and I completely forgot about taking photos. But I give you my guarantee. The food was amazing. The oysters were FRESH! The crab cake was HUGE. And everything else not pictured was AMAZING. We cleaned every dish. My only complaint would be in seating. The patio seating was okay but I think it could be set up better. I would've preferred to sit inside but the seating options didn't look very comfortable there either.

Auggie L.

Yelp
Went for Daily Happy Hour Food - 5/5. Oysters were fresh, clean and meaty. Each had a natural sweetness and the strong briny flavor characteristic of west coast oysters. Their sauce selection was minimalist, but they were great for elevating the oysters. I've always preferred my oysters raw rather than cooked but the New Orleans oyster pan roast completely changed my mind. The pot roast had a perfect combination of rich sauce, salty bacon and creamy oysters topped on a hefty piece of bread. The oysters were fat, even bigger than the ones we got raw, and was even juicer in comparison. They were piping hot and the tender, meaty bite of the oysters were absolutely phenomenal. The rich sauce gave it a lot of depth and the mix of textures from the bacon, bread, and scallions made this a perfect hot oyster dish. The sardine toast was alright. The ingredients were fresh with a light dressing letting you taste the sardine but otherwise they did not compliment each other as well as the oyster pan roast. The seafood pasta once again showcased their culinary expertise and quality seafood. Pasta was al dente and the tomato fennel sauce added a nice aroma with a slight sourness to boost the delicate seafood flavor. I was surprised at how much I liked the clams and mussels. They were clean and fully filled up their shells, providing a nice bite. Shrimp was succulent and bouncy. Beignets were big and fluffy with the sugar coating giving it a slight crunch. The chocolate sauce was rich and decadent, standing out even with the sugary donut. Service - 5/5. Fantastic service that was professional, courteous, and timely. The table space was limited but the food always came out in good order to not overcrowd the area and was cleared promptly. When we ordered just one pasta, they took the initiative of splitting it into two portions for us which made the dining experience even better. Really went above and beyond! Value - 5/5. Their happy hour offer is daily and cuts the price of many regular menu items by a few dollars. The happy hour price for oyster on the half shell is $2/pp, which is on the lower end for the area. The regular menu is priced fairly at $20~$30 for entrees. Portion sizes are huge as my half portion of the pasta was more than enough for a single serving. Their oyster quality is amazing, either hot or cold, and so is the rest of the seafood. An absolute must try seafood restaurant. Parking - Mall Lot (Free)

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Wed afternoon. A lot of their happy hour food is similarly priced to their regular menu, but the happy hour oysters are half price and a good deal. The restaurant was decently full but we were able to be seated immediately. Service was great, and the food came out fast. It's quite a cozy space - it's not as big as it looks from the outside. Overall, food was okay - nothing extraordinary. You can definitely find better seafood in SF, but the prices there are higher as well. We got for seafood pasta, which was probably my favorite item - flavorful but not too salty. The oysters were decent. The mussels had a small amount of broth so the mussels themselves didn't have that much flavor. The fries had too much batter IMO.

Steve W.

Yelp
If you try some place new, you got to go big right? So two of us went to Forthright for an early dinner. It was nice to see they were really busy early in the evening. The restaurant is located in a strip center, but they've done a nice interior design with an open kitchen. Riley was our server. She was helpful and attentive. Since we were eating oysters and other fish dishes, we ordered a bottle of sparkling rose. We started with a 1/2 dozen Rocky Pt. Oysters. They were fresh, chilled and tasty. We also tried their butter roasted oysters. I wouldn't do that again. I was hoping that their roasted oysters would have that charred flavor you get from grilled...unfortunately not at all. Stick to one of the 6-8 different varieties of raw oysters. The standouts, besides the raw oysters, were the acme bread with flavorful olive oil and lightly salted ricotta, clam chowder, white fish ceviche, and the ahi tuna sashimi. The ceviche was the traditional preparation of avocado, cucumber, jalapeno, tomato, onion, and lime juice. A Nice amount of fish was in the serving accompanied by fresh tortilla chips. The sashimi had lots of avocado accompanying the large slices of fresh ahi. The sashimi was topped with a slightly sweet sesame sauce. Really yummy! We also tried their yellow tail crudo. While fresh, great texture, and delicate, their sauce was a little sweet for me. As you probably guessed it, we were stuffed, but had to try their highly rated churro beignets. We took them home to go. They were delicious as advertised! Forthright has super fresh fish, treated with respect, in flavorful preparations. I Highly recommend!

Yelp
We've been here twice and food was delicious both times. Staff is very nice and helpful. Recommendation: - oysters all very delicious - seafood pasta - salmon wings

Madison M.

Yelp
We have been here twice now and each time I enjoy it! I love a raw oyster but every once in a while I get one that tastes a little less fresh than others but NEVER here!! They are so fresh and tasty!! My partner and I got 12 to share which was a perfect amount for 2. There was a short wait and for a good reason - it makes sense why a place like this is busy The staff is also super helpful and knowledgeable.

David A.

Yelp
The night started with a 30min wait after we had booked a 7pm reservation. Not the staff's fault since the the table had available was for outdoor dining. We requested for an indoor seating and the host said it would take about 20-30 minutes. Once we were seated, we ordered our food. As we were waiting for our food, the waiter surprises us with two complementary dishes for the Long wait time-Grilled octopus and shishito peppers and a tuna salad. The appetizers were both delightful and a good way to start a Meal. Entrées were the Beef Bolognese pasta, seafood, pasta, and the mussels. The beef Bolognese was well balanced, and savory. The kids enjoyed that one very much. The seafood pasta was put together well and delicious. The mussels had the perfect combination of citrus and spices, the broth it came with was delicious. Wish we had more bread to eat with. Overall, the entire experience; meal, dinner ambience and service was excellent. I would highly recommend. Shout out to the friendly staff. You guys have a really good thing going. Keep it up!

Yelp
We came here after a long drive back from SLO in heavy rain by accident. Had another place in mind but click this place on our Google map. Definitely did not regret it. The service was great. There was outdoor seating which was perfect for us since we have our little pet child. The food was delicious. I have never had such tender Octopus. Definitely would come back.

Yelp
Came here for the happy hour oysters and OMG I have only had oysters once or twice before but they were definitely not $2 each for such good quality. They also have a combo deal with a bubbly + 3 oysters for only $12 and both tasted AMAZING. My friends recommended asking for Tabasco and it definitely made a BIG difference. Aside from the oysters, we also ordered some shrimp and grits and the sardine toast off the happy hour menu, both of which were super delicious, rich, and flavorful. The only thing I wanted to take 1 star off for was because they charged us an extra $9 for a bubbly when we had only received 2 drinks as part of the $12 happy hour combo (bubbly + 3 oysters) which we were already charged $24 for. By the time I realized this overcharge, I was already home so I didn't feel it necessary to drive back to Campbell over $9. Other than this minor mistake, the food was wonderful and I highly recommend it!

Yelp
One of my cousin's was visiting so we decided to check this place out since this is a spot her and her boyfriend love to go to. Came here for Happy Hour with my cousins (party of 7) on a Saturday. We had a reservation at 3:30. Majority of us came late and got to our table around 4, but they were still very accommodating! They have indoor and outdoor seating and the space is pretty roomy! When we got there it wasn't as busy but it did start to fill up. We were only there for Happy Hour but we were extremely satisfied with the food and the service! We were only there for light snacks since we were planning on going somewhere else for dinner. The fries are a must and I loved the clam chowder. I don't love oysters like the rest of my family but the butter roasted oysters were so good! Our server checked up on us often so our waters were always filled and we got our drinks and food at a decent time, considering that it started to get busy. This is a pretty chill spot to go to and I would definitely recommend going for Happy Hour! We will be back!

Yelp
Wait gets long so try to make a reservation if you can! We waited an hour for a table on a Friday night. We ordered some oysters, fresh fish crudo, strawberry burrata salad, and uni pasta. The strawberry burrata was an interesting combination and we weren't the biggest fan of it. The fresh fish crudo was good but sweeter than we expected it to be. The uni pasta was my favorite dish! The portion was solid and it comes with crab meat. We ended up ordering a side of bread to dip in the uni sauce which was such a good move. Our server was so sweet and took care of us throughout the night. Noise level wasn't too loud and was perfect for conversations. Price is steep but food is fresh and good!

Yelp
Stopped in for HH short for happy hour on a Saturday at 4pm (just the best sweet time) Good vibes reminded us of oyster places in the PNW We were seated quickly & sat outside. Next time we will definitely bring our pup! The oysters were bomb dot com & easy to order. HH oysters are priced at $2 a pop which isn't too bad :) the one today was meatier than the other oysters we ordered. Service was really nice & attentive- our water was filled up multiple times! We asked to share the burger & they cut/plated it on two plates - so considerate all in all great experience :)

Yelp
This place is ok, but I wouldn't come back. The food is mediocre and so overpriced. Most items on their Happy Hour menu is the same as the regular menu, so I don't know what the point of even having it on the hh menu.

Yelp
If i could give a zero star , I would definitely give a "0" star rating to this restaurant. This is an oyster bar so I would expect it has lots of choices of oysters ( like Hog Island) However this restaurant does not have many varieties of oysters. ( disappointed ) We asked the waitress (Mara) for oyster recommendations. She recommended kumamato and willapa supreme . We trusted her suggestions but it turned out to be disappointing. The oyster was not quite fresh. Mara may not be in a good mood, when she served us drinks, one of the drinks spilled on table and on my menu. She only said "Sorry" and then walked away, without helping us clean up the table or giving us napkins to wipe off ? That's really good service from you Mara! We ordered Ceviche and Octopus as starters, which taste not bad at all, so we temporarily forgot about the mishap. Then we ordered Seafood pasta as the main dish to try their squalid ink noodle ( as it was specified in menu ) . Two dishes of ordinary looking pasta came while we were wonder why it was not squid ink noodle but regular spaghetti . The most funny thing was that the table next to us was squalid ink noodle ! We asked Mara why there was not squid ink noodles and she just walked away and said " I need to talk to the manager " OK. The manager came and she explained that they ran out of squid ink noodles . I responded that " I would expect you inform us first before serving it" What a joke she responded " Actually it was the same " We've had enough of your unacceptable services . NO NEXT TIME !

Yelp
i LOVE forthright oysters! my friend and i always come for their $2 happy hour and it never disappoints. the oysters are plump and fresh (save for one weird one on occasion) and the sauces they come with are so good. i've tried other oyster spots in the south bay and i think these are the best! the service is also fantastic - we usually get the same server but i'm sad to say we haven't caught her name. she's always so sweet and attentive. lastly, the ambiance is really nice! they have a heated patio which we usually take (however, your ankles will get cold - wear warm socks and actual pants) and the inside dining looks so cozy. i highly recommend this spot! it's a campbell gem for sure.

Yelp
Great happy hour for oysters! Delicious food, and service of the place is great! It does get very busy, so be prepared to wait during the busy hours.

Yelp
The restaurant is very nice and clean, the staff is attentive and friendly. The food is generally very good. The clam chowder ($6.50) was my favorite item actually. It was served very hot with tons of fresh ingredients and excellent flavor. The $3 acme bread rolls were fine but a bit overpriced for two small rolls and some oil/cheese. The beer battered cod ($11 happy hour) seemed fresh and had great texture and tenderness but was slightly bland. The oyster taco ($5) was ok. Decent flavor but way too much breading on the seafood. I'm actually kind of torn on the seafood pasta($28, or was it $30??? - see below). All of the ingredients (clams, mussels, calamari, squid oil pasta, and sauce) were good and fresh. That said, I felt the combination of flavors wasn't as good as the sum of its parts. Maybe it's just my preferences in shellfish that's affecting this so if you love tons of mussels this is for you. The fruit crisp ($9, or maybe more - see below )was just well cooked and presented but I think only one fruit (pineapple) lost the depth of flavor. I would also suggest you check your bill carefully as a couple items on our bill were higher than the menu (or online menu) prices. It was fixed but that should just never happen.

Yelp
Came in on a Friday evening and was greeted immediately upon arrival. It happened to be happy hour and luckily wasn't too busy. I tried more than what I took pictures of because I was just too hungry.. and it was just too good... lol. Moscow Mules -- 5/5. Perfect amount of ice and liquor! HH Taco -- 4/5. Tasted more like a fish salad on top of a tostada. It was good but definitely not a taco. Raw Oysters -- 5/5. $2 HH oysters are to die for, especially when they're fresh and ready to eat. Dressed mine up with the little cucumber sauce that came on the side along with lemon and tobasco.. chefs kiss. Steamed Mussels -- 5/5. Served with a side of toasted bread and a lot of sauce/stew in the plate. The flavors were great! Baked Oysters -- 5/5. Not undercooked or overcooked, just cooked perfectly. Clam Chowder -- 4/5. Nothing special but was good. I'd definitely recommend visiting especially during HH as there is a lot of variety to choose from. I wish I would've had more space to eat because it was just that good. Will return when I get the chance to!

Yelp
Quality food, done right. It's a smaller space but never feels too small. The chowder, oh my god, the chowder... Bacon, clams, cream, potatoes.. yes you had me at bacon... it's smoky, rich, hearty... Oysters are fresh, and tasty. While not the cheapest place, you get what you pay for, and what you get is simple ingredients prepared in a way as to make them shine.

Yelp
Bummed this gem of a restaurant is no more. It's a loss to food diversity in South Bay. Not many true, legit oyster bars around and this one was one of the best.

Yelp
This is goodbye, but hopefully not for the menu items. Forthright is in my top 5 of Bay Area restaurants. I was on their email distribution and received the sad news that they are closing. We visited one last time yesterday. Of course we got our faves, including the oyster pan roast. Actually, we ordered 2! We had to! I miss when they used to use Acme bread. Oysters and bread dipped in creamy Tabasco? Yum! Crab cake as always was amazing. Crispy cake with crab and remoulade? Count me in! They started serving frozen drinks in the past year or two. We were fortunate enough to try one of each of the flavors of the day and then we shared a swirl of the two flavors as our third drink. I hope this fun carries on in another one of the Stump establishments. A fond memory from a few years ago: The gin fizz used to be on the menu. If you've ever had it, you'll know it's an extreme pain to make because of how much shaking labor is involved. I ordered it because it's so tasty. Well, a few minutes later, I saw staff walk over to the grocery next door and then a few minutes after that came back with one item: heavy cream. Yup, that was for my gin fizz. They could have just said, sorry, we are out of the ingredients for today, and I would have accepted it. I was grateful for the work staff was willing to put in to make this already labor intensive drink happen. Thank you, Forthright. I will miss you a lot and think of you dearly.

Yelp
Came here recently with some friends for a girls night. It was super easy to find and parking was plentiful. The place itself is quite small. They were a little understaffed so it took us a hot minute to get to our seats. We managed to get an outside table and it was much more quieter outside. The drinks were amazing!!! That was my favorite part. All of us loved our cocktails. For the food, I'd definitely order a bunch of plates to share like family style, like we did. One dish I highly recommend is the crab cakes, as a starter they were absolutely delicious! The main I'd say the shrimp and grits was a pleasant surprise and pretty yummy. I'd stay away from the octopus appetizer and the seafood platter was a little spicy so wasn't too big of a fan. The service was okay. It started off a rocky start, but then the manager apologized for the wait, and our server was pretty good, food came out relatively on time although the drinks arrived after our meal. Overall if you're looking for a decent place for a meal and don't mind waiting a bit for a table or your food (even with a reservation) then I'd come here. Great for drinks and appetizers!!

Yelp
Forthright Oyster Bar and Kitchen's burger deal is a steal you shouldn't miss. Their burgers are not only mouthwatering but also generously portioned, making it a satisfying and delicious meal. The quality of the ingredients and the flavors are top-notch, especially given the deal's value. The ambiance of Forthright is cozy and inviting, providing a comfortable setting to enjoy your meal with very friendly attentive service.

Yelp
The wife and I had done a wine and food event in Campbell last Saturday and were looking for a place to kill some time before going to dinner. The wife wanted to check out Marvel Cake so we went there and then I remembered there was some kind of restaurant on the corner of the same shopping center so I walked over to Forthright and peeked my head in to look at the bar. The bar seemed to be well stocked so I grabbed the wife and we walked back. We picked a couple of chairs at the end of the bar and talked to one of the bartenders about getting a couple of classic cocktails. There were 2 female bartenders working, a taller brunette and a shorter blonde. They were super friendly and we had a great time hanging out and chatting with them. I wish I could remember their names because they deserve to be referred to by name so the manager can know how awesome they both are. Sorry ladies. I started with one of their drinks that had a Cilantro infused gin. It was decent but not really my taste. For my next drink I decided I wanted something herbal. I asked the blonde bartender if she had ever had an Industry Sour, (equal parts Chartreuse, Frenet, Lime Juice and Simple Syrup). I like this drink a lot but the Frenet can be a bit overpowering. When I make this drink at home I cut the Fernet in half. I saw that they had a few Amari on the shelf and asked what they thought of them. The blonde noted that she liked one called China China. I asked to taste it and it was indeed good. So I had them make an Industry Sour with China China instead of Frenet. The drink was glorious. I liked it so much that later that night I went to Total Wine and bought myself a botttle of China China. We didn't eat any food here as we were just killing time. But we saw many oysters being served so I would assume they're pretty good here. But if you want a delicious cocktail, you can't go wrong at Forthright.

Yelp
My friends and I (party of 8) decided to come here for happy hour after hearing nothing but positive reviews about it. We arrived around 2:10 pm on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy, but it was starting to pick up as we were leaving. The space is quite small, so I'd imagine it would fill up quickly. We ordered a variety of items to try. The happy hour oysters were Royal Miyagi. I'm usually an oyster fan, but it was too briny for my liking. We also ordered a dozen Oishii oysters (not happy hour pricing), and we liked it much more. It tasted fresh, less briny, mild sweetness... Really good, but pricey-- $5.50 each. The HH taco of the day was made from halibut and it was just ok. It was too watery and the tostadas weren't having it. Overall, the food wasn't anything special and it was quite pricey despite being happy hour. I may revisit in the future, but I would avoid going in larger groups.
