"If there’s ever a case to be made for visiting the Hudson Valley during the summer and fall, it’s Fortune’s. This dessert spot is only open seasonally, and makes some of the best ice cream in the area. The local produce that studs each flavor tastes like it was literally picked that morning, which you can especially taste in their labne-based scoop that has rotating fruit (the best is sour cherry). The sundaes and milkshakes are often a combo of ice cream, housemade sauce, and some sort of crumbly, crunchy cookie topping. Sit and enjoy it on a bench in their shady side yard to minimize getting drips and/or crumbs all over yourself. " - Chanize Thorpe, Anne Cruz, Clare Lagomarsino

Google
The best dang ice cream in all the land; for realz. Yes, a pint is pricier than what most are used to; however, once you taste, you will come to understand. I had to stock up for winter, as they close 12/22/24 for the season 🙃

Google
Some of the best ice cream ive ever had. The peach one tasted like fresh peaches and was so so delicious. The basil blackberry crumble was intriguing and addicting, it had a strong basil flavor and salty crumble with just a little sweetness from the blackberry. The building is super cute with indoor and outdoor seating. Would love to come back and try more flavors, maybe topped with olive oil this time

Google
The best vegan ice cream I’ve ever had (& I’ve had a lot). Truly original flavors that taste exactly as they’re named, as opposed to generic vanilla or chocolate with syrups or oils. The Halava was truly the best flavor of vegan ice I’ve ever tasted. An absolute must stop! Funky fun shop and ample outdoor seating as well.

Loved our stop at Fortunes ice cream. A great fun spot to get ice cream, sit outside in the summer, and enjoy the weather & and evening sweet treat.

My response/edit : I can assure you that this is a real review and I am dead serious about it. I was there on the afternoon of August 4. I ordered an ice cream cone consisting of One scoop chocolate, one scoop vanilla. I was with my 10-year-old son. The lady behind the counter was an individual who had brown hair possibly between the ages of 21 to 24 and had tattoos. I was very pleasant to her. She was not pleasant to me even in front of my child, when I gave her the cash for my order, she returned my change and the change at my hand in the most rude manner. This was done in front of my 10 year old son. That made it insulting. I have loved the town of Tivoli for well over 20 years and I felt that this was a very unfortunate experience. I do not feel that I should remove my bad review because I think it is well deserved. If any of my employees ever through the change at a customers, I would fire them immediately. This is extremely disrespectful and discourteous. It is even worse when you do it in front of a person‘s child , I cannot in good conscience return to your establishment. I am sure you as the owner are a good person and I am not insulting you directly yet this was an extremely unpleasant experience for me. I went there with my child and we were really excited to give this place a try. I was appalled by the lack of professional behavior the person behind the counter exuded hostility, and did not seem to like their job. After I paid for the ice cream, she practically threw the money at my hand. Used to be a restaurant manager and I’ve taught every single one of my employees how to treat all human beings with respect and dignity. I did not receive that at this establishment. Not only why I never go back. I will make sure that anybody I talk to won’t go there either. They need to do better.

Google
Amazingly delicious flavors, kind and helpful staff. I would give 5 stars, but it's the most expensive ice cream place I've ever been to and that makes it exclusive, rather than inclusive IMO If you can afford to, try the darkest chocolate, raspberry labna or this honeycomb halva yummmmm

Google
EXCELLENT ice cream!!! And such amazing flavours!!! My friend and I had the labne sour, rosemerry caramel, halva honeycomb, and chocolate orange – ALL WERE HEAVENLY. I also packed a pint to take back with me to New York City and they packaged it in a cool bag with ice. Super relieved that it survived the journey home!

Google
Hands down the best ice cream i have had in my entire life. Icecream sandwich particularly special. Looks simple but it is genius in its simplicity with the most perfect dark chocolate crunchy cookie. Labneh ice cream is my all time favorite with what ever fruit it is paired with. Reminds me of the Italian style yogurt gelato that is super hard to find in the states. The vegan flavors are pure magic. The worst part of this shop is trying to decide what to get as they are all splendid. This icecream is so special. A true gem if a place.

Yelp
The best place on earth. Revolutionary flavors, silky smooth textures, dairy free options. I am unashamed to buy 10 pints to prepare for the off season.

Yelp
Was in the area for apple picking & wanted to try a local ice cream spot. Upon searching a bit, Fortunes seemed to come highly recommended so off we went. I'm quite pleased that the hours go until 10 pm because the people need post dinner ice cream!! Unfortunately despite reviews saying the ice cream is generally pricey, the prices are not readily available. I was so excited to eat the ice cream that I also forgot to take a picture of the menu board with the price From what I remember a small cup was around $5, medium cup is $7 ish and large cup is either $8-9. I asked how many scoops each cup can get and I think you can get two scoops per cup (maybe more for the large? I'm blanking). There are of course come options as well as toppings. Their flavors change pretty regularly it seems and there was a slim fridge on the side of the store with pints of flavors that were not featured in the display case (I didn't look too closely). There were some interesting flavors like labneh quince and kiwiberry but I'm basic and I got a medium cup of mocha and hazelnut chip. The staff was friendly & let me sample my target flavors before I bought. I took a lick of the labneh quince flavor he got & it's definitely an interesting tangy yogurt y flavor & both bf & my friend enjoyed the passionfruit flavor they got. The mocha ice cream is strong & hits you with a punch of coffee flavor. The hazelnut chip is deliciously sweet and flavorful & reminded me of like a Nutella-y praline flavor with the chips providing a fun crunch. The hazelnut chip flavor was my favorite! I love pistachio gelato (legit one from Italy) so I was curious & asked if they offered pistachio ice cream. They offer both a pistachio as well as a rosewater saffron pistachio flavor at other times. Seeing how good the hazelnut chip & mocha flavors were, I have high hopes their pistachio would be good too. The medium cup was a pretty fair amount of ice cream so while it's on the pricy side, I think it's a great ice cream option in the area. There's some cozy interior seating with a handful of tables. I rec it for ice cream and a wonderful post dinner dessert spot. Looking forward to what other creative flavors they have!

Nicola L.

Yelp
Earl grey lavender shortbread!!! They have the best flavors...and great service!!! You can get, shakes, drinks, ice cream by the cup or cone. And they have dairy free options. First of all, this city is super quaint, friendly, good service, nostalgic just all around good. This ice cream parlor has the best flavors. Something for everyone. From mint chip to rhubarb. I believe they have the best ice cream in the state. Can't wait to go back.

Lara G.

Yelp
The first thing everyone noticed is the cute little building that housesfortunes ice cream. It is located right on the main road. Parking can be tough, but I usually find a spot down one of the side streets. Nice selection of ice creams with seasonal flavors. I believe most of the ingredients are local. The ice cream is delicious. On a very hot day, they could do a slightly better job of keeping it firmer. The service is pretty good. Looks like it's run by a bunch of students, which is fine, but I have seen them get overwhelmed when it's busy. And it's almost always busy. Fantastic spot to grab a cone or a cup or some to-go ice cream after dinner or when passing through the area. I would recommend it.

Yelp
Nothing beats going for lovely evening walks around the village of Tivoli. Except doing it with an ice cream cone in your hand! Fortune is a wonderful liitle ice cream restaurant serving up unusual and unique seasonal flavors...black sesame, lavendar shortbread, sour cherry...as well as chocolate, vanilla, and other traditional kinds. They also have ice cream related drinks and toppings for sundaes. Ample indoor and outdoor seating available. I think I saw a window for ordering from outside which is handy if you bring your dog. I will confirm this next time I go. Ice cream was delicious... sour cherry was my pick!

Sumogirl M.

Yelp
Exquisite. Fresh, refreshing. Innovative. Natural. Fun. Affordable. What a delight. Passionfruit, strawberry short cake are a must try.

MaryKate A.

Yelp
10/10 experience. Had the rocky road on top of a brownie and it was killer. The space is adorable, the staff is ready to answer questions and serve up some samples, and the ice cream is great. All fresh ingredients, you can really taste the quality.

Shawn H.

Yelp
Really amazing. Both the chocolate and dark chocolate are among the best I can remember having anywhere. My wife also really loved the peanut butter swirl and the coffee chip. We loved this so much we came three straight nights, and I think it's well worth the visit even if we weren't staying in Tivoli.

Yelp
Molto simpatica! Le ho dato una grande mancia! È davvero bello sentirsi riconosciuti come Italiani a Tivoli. Tornerò sicuramente e spero di rivederla! Grazie "Fortunes"!

Eryn M.

Yelp
Amazing specialty ice cream shop! Have driven 40+ minutes just to get this ice cream. They are always changing flavors so get what you like while you can. The service is very nice and has lots of seating. Usually there is a line but it moves very quickly and they always let you taste some flavors before you have to choose. We had the peanut butter and jelly Sundae with mint chip and halva honeycomb, rosewater saffron pistachio, earl gray lavender shortbread and labne sour Cherry. All were so good! We'll definitely be back soon!

Harry X.

Yelp
I was not quite expecting this to exist in a small place like Tivoli, but the ice cream here was REALLY good. I got a small scoop of their malted ice cream with chocolate-covered peanuts flavor (forget the exact name) and it was divine. Texture was perfect, rich, and the flavors were balanced. I liked it so much that I ended up getting an entire shake after that scoop haha. Definitely need to come back!

Pippin H.

Yelp
Their 'Darkest Chocolate' is a freight train of chocolate flavor! Next time (um... tomorrow) I will go with 'Halva Honeycomb'.....Kablam!!!

Olivia J.

Yelp
Concord Grape ice cream was just as refreshing as a wine cooler Local joint with unique flavors like apple cider donut and sour cherry.

Tamar B.

Yelp
Although not inexpensive, the delicious ice cream is worth every penny. The flavors are amazing.

Mikiko F.

Yelp
best ice cream I've ever had. all of the flavors are on point. Every time I'm in the area I always make a stop here. Some of my favorite flavors are Halva honeycomb, early grey lavender shortbread, and golden milk. Keep in mind their flavors rotate every week so check their instagram @fortunesicecream for their current flavors. The staff is always super friendly and let you sample the flavors. The ambiance is also really nice with some indoor and outdoor seating options.

Angie T.

Yelp
I love ice cream and this is one of the best ones I've ever had. The consistency is super creamy and smooth. Their flavor offerings are creative and focused on seasonality. I stopped by a couple of years ago while in the area and enjoyed it so much, I had been looking forward to another visit, which finally happened yesterday. This time I made sure to get a couple of pints to take back to the city with me. I'd definitely recommend any ice cream lover to make a stop here while in the area.

Joseph V.

Yelp
Best ice cream on the planet! I'm a local so I'm fortunate to be able to go frequently and I'm always blown away by how creative and tasty frozen desserts are. All the workers are super nice and will let you taste everything, it's pricey but worth every penny. If you haven't gone, run don't walk to this spot.

Adrianne R.

Yelp
ARE U KIDDING ME WITH THIS PLACE ?!?!?! i am no food reporter/reviewer but what i write here, i say with the greatest certainty and sincerity. when i eat fortunes ice cream, i feel like i am transporting away from my problems, like levitating out of my body and stimulating my brain with actually intelligent flavor and scoop geometry. i have engaged with gelato all over italy, but the supposed best in Rome or whatever is DUST compared to the lowliest cup of whatever these guys have lying around in their basement. i don't know how they do it, but this ice cream is art. we drive from half an hour away a few times a week and tbh i feel like i kind of live for Fortunes ice cream. it should be offered to people as a form of therapy. i feel like it could cure some stuff. two thumbs UP !

Esther T.

Yelp
Cousins raved about this ice cream place and brought me here. We got 6 different flavors to share. Don't remember exactly what they were, but there was definitely one with Earl Grey and needless to say that was my fave cuz I'm an Earl Grey fiend. A lot of Earl Grey ice creams lack the flavor. Not the case here. It was really good. Cute place and awesome ice cream! My recommendation: bring friends and share so you can try more flavors!

Francesca P.

Yelp
PERFECT!!! the most amazing ice cream we've tried on the east coast. The staff is friendly and the interior is adorable. My only regret is not going back to get more ice cream the next day

Sabrina W.

Yelp
Full disclosure. I can't eat regular ice cream. (TMI - sinus issue w dairy). So I always hope there is some sort of veganish milk version or sorbet that someone put some fun spin on. This place wins everything. Pay attention here, you non dairy folks, and listen closely: Tahini Honeycomb. You for sure have never had anything like it. The dairy ice cream folks will literally drop their dairy cones and run in to get one of these when they taste yours. For Sorbet: Darkest Chocolate This one has actually been described by my husband as "too" chocolatey. Now, we all know very well that there is no such thing. I now always have two pints (one of each) in my freezer at any given time. Another reason to move Upstate.

Cheryl P.

Yelp
Deeeelish! We fell in love with Fortunes. Delicious, intense and creative flavors. We had the Darkest Chocolate, Labneh Sour Cherry and Golden Milk. Staff was very sweet and helpful. The space is fun and colorful and the outdoor space is great too. Our new favorite ice cream spot!

Alan L.

Yelp
Best ice cream in the Hudson valley and maybe even anywhere. Their mint chip is incredible, love the seasonal flavors, and their ice cream sandwiches are really fun. You can't lose there!

Sherry O.

Yelp
The ice cream is superb.the service is great but only one time they got my order wrong.it's a nicely decorated place. One of my favorite places and open to everyone.

Krystal A.

Yelp
I had really high hopes about this "best of NY" ice cream shop. My husband and I even drove an hr from the capital region to try this place out. It was not good. These stars are more for the fun colorful ambiance, although completely exposed to the rain. I had custard strawberry and darkest dark scoops on a cone. Definitely had flavorless ice crystal chucks in our cream. The darkest dark was bad. Left a waxy coating on my tongue and was hard to finish because it was "dry". Almost like licking straight cocoa powder. The flavor of the strawberry was zingy and nice. Maybe it was a bad day for ice cream here, but we will not make the trek out again to find out.

Bonnie M.

Yelp
The labna sour cherry flavor is the BEST ice cream I've ever tasted!!! It's expensive but worth it. Jeni's eat your heart out.

David F.

Yelp
Nice interior design and vibe. Yes, it's the first thing you notice. Ice cream was good and good. service. I will come back.

Rosetta S.

Yelp
What the...?! This ice cream is a dream you never want to wake up from. The sour cherry labne will transport you! So tart with a touch of sweetness. The mint chip is so minty and definitely made with fresh spearmint. The chips are very rich and not waxy. I wanted one of everything! It is worth a visit. You will be so happy and you will forget about the apocalypse.

Damian M.

Yelp
Woo hoo...finally a killer ice cream spot in the area. I know Holy Cow and The Jolly Cow have been staples around here forever, but Fortunes crushes them both!! Delicious. I had a small Tin Roof and it was off the charts. Going back again tonight :))

Jorge P.

Yelp
Deliciously superb and creative ice cream. Most definitely worth the trek if you're in the area! Outdoor seating could be improved with the addition of some umbrellas to provide shade from the sun and shelter from the rain.

Zoe C.

Yelp
Best Ice cream I have ever had. In my life. Ever. They have so many interesting gourmet flavors. They have non dairy coconut milk ice creams, traditional ice creams, and sorbets.

Bee C.

Yelp
The ice cream was great. The pistachio rose water and labneh raspberry was excellent. Very cute spot to sit and eat outdoors.

Aseah K.

Yelp
Ah I love this place! It's the cutest little shop in Tivoli with awesome flavors. I got buttermilk peach and it was simply delicious I want to come back and definitely try more flavors. Service is great and the staff was super accommodating. There is also a cute place to sit up the yellow stairs in addition to the downstairs seating. I highly recommend this place if you come to Tivoli. I want to bring everyone here and so will you ^^

Edward J.

Yelp
Some of the best I've cream I've ever had. Their fruit flavors are consistently the best but everything is good. They absolutely nail that perfect ice cream texture with a little chew and pull. Everything is so good, get a couple flavors.

Harold A.

Yelp
Best ice cream I have ever had (and I once had fresh peanut gelato in an Italian restaurant behind the parliament building in Kabul AND I make my own); very creative flavors, labneh blackberry swirl, basil brittle.

Eunice C.

Yelp
Such a cute ice cream shop with inventive flavors (we tried multiple flavors, and I will think about how good the labne sour cherry for a long time), and options for special dietary needs too.

Livia S.

Yelp
I was skeptical of Fortunes at first glance because of the prices, but after ordering I realized that the price is worth the quality and quantity of this ice cream. They always have great and interesting flavors made from local ingredients. New flavors every week also which is fun! Definitely worth the $

Jane O.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, very pleasant village ambiance. One star off for really small scoops for the (high) price. )

J D.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I had been hearing about all the rave reviews for this place from my friends, and they were 100% on target! The ice cream is fucking amazing. The seasonal flavors are so complex, yet simple enough to devour a whole two scoops of! I love supporting small businesses, and this is definitely a destination not to miss when you head upstate for the weekend.

Shaina M.

Yelp
This ice cream is out of this world! Amazing unique flavors, cutest decor, options for dairy free, sweetest staff. Can't recommend Fortunes enough!

Hannah C.

Yelp
so. good. get the darkest chocolate! i want to go back everyday for the rest of forever

J O.

Yelp
The perfect sweetness level and the dairy free flavors are rich and delicious. I hear it's popular with Leon Botstein too!

Angela C.

Yelp
at first glance, the place is very colorful and attractive. while walking inside, it's a bit smaller than i would've thought but still very neat and clean. the prices are a bit higher than most ice cream places, but all the ice cream is homemade, so what can i say? the girl at the counter was a bit rude, honestly. she gave off a very odd vibe. one problem i had with this was when she touched the cone and was scooping ice cream, she didn't have any gloves on. the ice cream wasn't bad but definitely not the best i've had. for a small shop just starting out though, i think they're on the right track in becoming better. just needs a few improvements.
