This State Is One Giant Summer Camp for Kids and Adults — Here's How to Plan the Perfect Family Trip

"Beaches line the coast of Maine, but our favorite was Fortune’s Rocks Beach, mostly because Annie has a home there, but also because an ice cream truck still visits every afternoon, selling frozen treats and beach read books, natch. Bring towels and beach chairs, plan for some tidepooling and rock climbing, and say hi to Annie if you see her." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Great spot. Parking after 5 is free and is dead at nighttime. Fires are allowed on the beach and nice spot for boogie boarding and surfing. Beach usually isn’t that busy and show up on the early side if you’re going for the day. Rocks on the right side have many tide pools but wear shoes whereas there is slippery rocks and barnacles. Be mindful of the tides so you don’t end up stranded on the rocks.

Nice spot, kinda quiet.. not much parking without a permit...

I can’t wait to visit this beach solely based off of the comments of people crying about the parking cost. Clearly, you guys have no idea how things work here. That is the only way to keep things nice and not overcrowded. I will happily pay that amount of money to have a nice peaceful day on a beautiful and clean beach.

Great place for a relaxing beach day. Parking is expensive though.

Gorgeous sandy beach, perfect for beachside walks. Not personally into surfing but noticed it was a thriving local surf spot. The beach is peppered with small, smooth black stones and clam shells for collectors. Didn't see much in the way of sea glass or other shells. The ocean here looks breathtaking.

One of my favorite beaches. Street parking is hit or miss. Never over crowded, as it's out of the way and seems like it's more geared to locals. No shops or restaurants, they do have a port-o-potty, you can bring your own cooler. Carry in/carry out policy. Quiet, clean and peaceful.

Such a fun beach during low tide!! I spend 2hrs minimum here 😆 I’ll post some cool things I found this time 😁

Google
Awesome beach. Visit in the winter or spring time before the tourists invade. Peaceful and beautiful during low tide.

Yelp
A beautiful beach that is mostly full of locals. Parking is by the day. There aren't many amenities so make sure to bring whatever you need. We had a wonderful afternoon enjoying the view. Some of the family went for a swim. The water was cold but not frigid. I'd definitely visit Fortune's Rock Beach again.

Yelp
Ahhhh Ocean Air! How I love spending lazy, summer days at Fortune's Rocks. I grew up going to this beach and I never take it for granted. You can take nice long walks at low tide or play in the waves at high tide. However, it cannot be a full high tide as there is no beach area to sit but give it a few hrs & the sand reappears and you can swim or walk the day away. There is an area of rocks & tide pools that's amazingly peaceful to stroll while checking out the beautiful sea stars, shells and other sea life. It is truly a place of tranquility mostly because it does not get that busy in the summer.

Yelp
We decided to spend a morning looking for sea glass on Fortune Rocks beach. I costs $22 to buy a parking permit for the day. We were then welcomed to town with a $25 ticket because our car was facing the wrong direction. There is no sign stating we had to face a certain direction. So no sea glass and $47 to park. Frankly this beach wasn't worth it. I would pass on this town there are many others that are much more welcoming than this town

Yelp
Quiet. Not crowded. Great for walking- 2 mile stretch, kayaking, sunbathing, no too wide but soft sand & sea grass/dunes beyond. Swimming can be iffy bcz of the seaweed factor but otherwise it's excellent as the beach curves like a 1/2 moon w rocks on the both sides.

Yelp
Stunning, quiet and peaceful. Lifeguards on duty, parking permit required - available at Biddeford town hall. Kind of a pain but ok if you plan in advance. The surf is a bit rough, might be too strong for small children. Water is cold, too! Not much sand at high tide, porta potty on site. Worth a trip!

Yelp
Beautiful Biddeford Beach. Gorgeous turquoise water on clear sunny days. Good for listening to the waves in peace, as not too many people seem to frequent this beach. An Audubon boardwalk trail connects the beach to the surrounding Biddeford Pool neighborhood. Get there before Memorial Day.

Yelp
Great spot for beaching year round. Porta potty in summer months, and don't forget your Biddeford Beach pass from June 15- Labor Day! Otherwise park for free. Great beach for walking with dogs and children. Other parking in Biddeford Pool are Middle Beach and Bathhouse parking.

Yelp
Great beach. Not rocky and room to spread out. Parking is limited but that keeps the beach from becoming too crowded. If you're not from Maine, a warning that the water is cold (and this is from someone in Michigan)

Yelp
Beach is great! Absolutely beautiful; water is very clean and the sand is like powder. However there are no restrooms, only outhouse/portos which are filthy! They obviously do not empty them daily and the amount of fecal material is disgusting. My family and I were so disappointed. We could not believe how bad it was. Very unsanitary for such a nice beach! Honestly this situation needs to be addressed daily. It was overflowing in one of the toilets

Yelp
Solid beach. Like 10 spots total for parking but keeps the crowd to a minimum. Better than bathhouse and get the pass.
