The 18 Best Dog-Friendly Restaurants In London

"It’s been four days since you gave them a b-a-t-h and they’re still acting like you constituted a worldwide ban on tennis balls before calling the neighbour’s pug “a good boy” in front of them. It’s time for some quality bonding time for the both of you, and at 40 Dean Street in Soho that means a cosy sit down for them, and some pasta and martinis for you. From the homely, family restaurant feel to the pistachio tiramisu, this Italian spot is a proper charmer. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Kissaten Soho Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"It’s easy to find bubble tea in central London, which makes it hard to know which is best. If you’re in Soho, head to Kissaten. After placing your takeaway order via big touch screens, turn your attention to the gachapon machines which are crammed in, floor to ceiling. Grab a couple of small toys before your number is called. We choose a different mascot each time, but when it comes to the drinks, we always stick with the Earl Grey milk tea with honey tapioca. It has a subtle floral twist on regular milk tea, balanced nicely by the sweet honey tapioca. photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat" - Daisy Meager

40 Dean Street Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"40 Dean Street serves simple classic Italian food that makes us very happy. It’s a solid old school spot, and although the interior looks like it hasn’t changed since the 80s, it’s totally charming. You should come to eat the veal, some pasta, or a pizza, which are all reliably good. In fact, they’re more than good, they’re classics done the way classics are supposed to be done. It’s the perfect spot for a casual date, catching up with mates, or whenever you want to go to a place that feels like it’s at the other end of the scale to the edgy cuisine that’s become so popular in Soho. Also, assuming you remember what it’s called, you’ll have no problem remembering where it is." - Sam Collins

Google
Wonderful experience at 40Dean Street, the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant was amazing and the service was fantastic! Christina couldn’t be more hospitable, had a lovely attitude and offered us great food and drinks recommendations. The food was delicious and the menu has something for everyone! My favourite dish was the Seafood Linguine - would highly recommend and will definitely be back soon!

This restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside it’s magic. Food was scrumptious. Star teas great. My parpadelle ragu was great. The pizzas got compliments- the Doug was just crispy enough. The espresso martinis were voted very highly. High recommend and Harold helped us. Thanks for that.

Second time here. The food and service was excellent. For starters I had the tiger prawns, I could have that 10 times over and wouldn’t get bored of it. My main was the roast pork belly with apple puree served with mashed potatoes which was amazing. I highly recommend anyone who is around soho and looking for a nice little italian to give this place a try as you will not be disappointed.

The food here is incredible! We came in for some lunch, we were greeted and immediately sat. There is a vast selection of drinks and food available and it all looked incredible. We ordered a bruschetta and burrata with some focaccia as a starter (although the bread we initially received was slightly stale they quickly replaced with a fresh basket). We also ordered the ricotta ravioli, which comes in a rich truffle sauce, and the spaghetti vongole for mains and they were both divine. The cocktails were also equally delicious. Our only complaint is that the service charge was mandatory. Though some staff were lovely, we would have wanted to choose how much we left as a tip. All in all, would recommend giving this place a visit.

Had an early dinner there by myself before going to The Lyric theatre. Staff were friendly and lovely. Food was delicious. I ate all my favourite things. Sorry I forgot to take photos before I started eating, but hopefully you still get the idea. It was lush!

We had a great meal here, the staff were attentive and the food was really great. We enjoyed sharing a few dishes. A word of warning not to sit outside - no fault of the restaurant, it is just a rowdy and busy street. Good value too.

Disappointing. I’ve been here a few times over these couple of years and had never been this disappointed. I always had good food here, epspecially the lobster ravioli. However, this time I believed something changed. I ordered the crunchy squid, caesar salad, mushroom risotto, and lobster ravioli. The crunchy squid was amazing, and i enjoyed it very much. Then, the other dishes came and everything went downhill. Firstly, the caesar salad came with grilled chicken that tastes so bitter i almost had to spit it out. The chargrilled part of the chicken was just not right. The rest of the salad was fine. Then, my friend ate the risotto and said it was a bit salty, so i tried it. Oh Jesus. It was the saltiest risotto I have ever eaten (this was without the parmesan on top). We had to return the dish and told the waiter to try it to make sure that we’re all on the same page about the taste. This issue was handled perfectly by the staff, and they took it off the bill for us. Lastly, the ravioli. This was the most disappointing out of all since I looked forward to eating it the most. I am normally not a fan of seafood, but I just loved the creaminess and the taste of the ravioli here. This time, the sauce was watery, the flavour was bland, and everything just didn’t feel right. I called the waiter just to check whether they changed the recipe or the chef. I was told that they didn’t change the chef nor the recipe. Come on! Just look at the pictures and judge for yourselves. I think the difference is quite clear. That’s all from me.

Yelp
Impeccable service!! We stopped in on a holiday weekend on a Saturday (thankfully early enough in the evening - 6pm ish) that we were able to get a table for 5 with no reservation. We were promptly seated outside feeling quite lucky to have scored a table. I highly recommend making a reservation if you have your heart set on eating here. The rest of the restaurant was fully booked for the evening. In our party we have three adults, a young teen, and a kiddo. Which is challenging to navigate. All three adults absolutely loved their gourmet dishes! The kids were less impressed but....that probably only speaks to the restaurant being completely fabulous. One caveat about sitting outside: there are signs on the tables that one needs be very mindful of their belongings. HEED THIS WARNING! If it isn't attached to your person it will walk away. A gentleman accosted our matron and made like he was stealing the food off her plate and the water from her glass. What he actually took was her phone. By the time we realized, it was long long gone. The staff were super helpful in supporting us through the experience in any way they could. No dings on the establishment, but 4 stars for the general area. Do eat here, do make a reservation, de enjoy the impeccably high level of service and fare, and do request a seat indoors for maximum leisure. If you do encounter trouble dial 999 from your phone. Cheers to lessons learned!

Yelp
Food is amazing! And the staff was great! One of my favorite restaurants in London so far. Visiting from California :)

Yelp
We arrived for a 5:00 pm reservation before a show with a family of 4 (including 12 and 14 year old). Upon entering the restaurant, we were told that children are not allowed in the restaurant after 6 PM and that we would need to rush our dinner. This was never told to us prior to the reservation being booked. My kids are both very well behaved. After seating us we ordered and were basically ignored as they took care of other customers and left us with Emplty plates and we had to flag the staff over any time we needed anything. Felt like they were angry that we were there and it made for a very uncomfortable experience. Food was OK but the experience was awful.

Yelp
This is a gem in the theater district. It was a wonderful lunch with fresh pasta and delicious eggplant parm..

Yelp
The Hublet and I rented a fantastic little studio apartment on Dean Street via AirBnB and, having slogged our way through London to get there, we wanted somewhere convenient to eat before we dragged ourselves up 3-flights of stairs and collapsed for the night. Forty Dean Street was such a wonderful find. Intimate, low lighting, comfortable seats and a nicely muted atomosphere. Service was fast and friendly, the food arrived hot and fresh and they took good care of us. We nibbled on olives and shared a fried squid appetizer - delicious and fresh - and I ordered from the set menu (Mon-Weds: £16.90 for 3 courses) while The Hublet went rouge with the à la carte menu. He had the Spaghetti which came with a beef and tomato Ragu. It was incredibly rich for something so deceptively simple, and he loved it. He ended with a wonderful slice of Tiramisu. I had a delicious smoked salmon carpaccio starter with capers and Keta caviar, then a rich Fregola with clams, squid, fresh cherry tomatoes and seafood sauce, and ended with a smooth and creamy Pannacotta with a mixed berry compote. The staff gave us a complimentary Limencello aperitif shooter and we were 'stick a fork in us' done. This is a wonderful little Italian restaurant in a very lively part of Soho with good prices and fantastic food.

Yelp
This was our last meal in London. Was pretty good. I ordered the lobster ravioli. Was real good. I believe it's homemade. For the price the place was great. Wasn't a wait or anything. Was able to get seated right away but then again it was only a Monday.

Yelp
I'll confess that we only came here because we couldn't be bothered to queue at the more popular restaurants in the vicinity, but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very lively and buzzy inside, and the music and candlelight create a really cosy atmosphere which was perfect for the chilly autumnal evening. The service was s-l-o-w - definitely not somewhere to come before a show or if you're in a rush, but for an overdue catch up with 2 friends the pace suited us well. We ordered from the set menu which is 2 courses for £13.50 - it's nothing special, but for the area and reasonable quality of the food this is very good value. My starter was the highlight - brie, fig & caramalised onion tart. The onions were beautifully caramelised and they were very generous on the brie which is always a winner for me. My main of Chicken Parmigiana with aubergine was also good, although a little too charred for my liking. We shared a bottle of prosecco between 3, and overall our bill came to just over £20 each which we were all pretty pleased with! Definitely would have been 4* if the service had been better.

Yelp
Came across this Italian restaurant last night as we were looking for somewhere to eat and decided to try it out. The food was tasty. I had sea bass with spinach and thick chips, my husband had the chicken risotto. Not sure how my food is considered Italian but it was tasty in any case. Our server was friendly and efficient. The food took a while but it came out fresh and hot. So why the 3 stars? Well I took one off because this place is SO noisy that my husband and I had to scream at each other to be heard. We scream at each other enough in normal circumstances...would rather not have to do it during a rare dinner out. I also took off a star because when we approached the restaurant for a table, another, very rude, waiter said "You have to wait. If I had a table I'd give it to you. You HAVE TO WAIT." I have no problem with waiting. I do have a problem with this waiter being so obnoxious about it. Not sure what happened there but maybe he too was tired of screaming in the super loud restaurant... Bottom Line: Good food but I'm not sure I'd return as there are so many other places to try out in the area.

Yelp
I joined my friends late (between main and dessert) for dinner on a Saturday. It became clear very quickly that there was a very slow service. This was the overarching theme of the evening, it turned out, and was exemplified by the time taken to take our dessert orders and bring them over (so slow my friend's gelato had partially melted into a pool of liquid...). I later found out that they had only had mains, no starters, which had taken nearly an hour to arrive. The food - I'm told, also backed up by sight and sound of what was coming out of the kitchen - was great, and a good selection. The interior was nice without being showy, not too many tables crammed in or issues with hygiene. My dessert was a delightful tiramisu, but our earlier theme continued when trying to get and pay the bill - topped off my our waitress asking inquisitionally "you didn't like my service?!" when asking for the charge to be removed. Inattentiveness aside, service was adequate, but let down by the. shocking. pace. of. it. These points were all raised at the time, so hopefully it will filter up the chain and there will be more staff on during busy times in future. What struck me as we left was that there was a group of 4 waiting outside for our table, yet it took 5 minutes to get the card reader. A pleasant meal let down by the pacing. On the plus side, you won't be chased off your table after a certain amount of time.

Yelp
3.5 Stars. Had a really lovely little meal here. Fabulous bottle of reasonably priced Valpolicella Ripasso and delicious seafood linguini with a really nice tomato sauce and just the right amount/mix of fish and shellfish. The dessert was tasty as well (I had a chocolate brownie) but did feel a little like it might have been out of a packet and heated up. I really liked the atmosphere, it did get a little loud at times but was nice and cosy, low lit with pretty candles on the table. Essentially just a good standard little Italian. Nothing earth shattering but at the same time just what you want and expect for that mid-range price/vibe, done better than the chains e.g. Zizzi.

Yelp
I've been there a few times. Once post-theatre, once for lunch to see a friend visiting London with her kids and once for dinner with old mates. I've had good experiences every single time. This is not a place for an intimate first date because it's small and gets crowded and thus is a bit loud. It's not a place where you can just show up with a huge crowd and hope to find a table, because of the reasons above. But if you want a good pizza or pasta dish, and you have a small group, then it can be perfect. The last meal there, I had the pork belly off of the set menu (they will allow you to order just one dish from it for a set price, which I believe is £10). It was well cooked with a nice bit of sauce and some veg. Perfect. The meal for four came to £100, including tip, in which two people got starters, we all had mains, and averaged about 2 beers each. Not a bad deal at all! It's a solid go to place, and I'm sure I'll be back again.

Yelp
This place is pre-christmas, drunken party fodder. So it's lucky that's how I experienced it. A fairly standard menu cooked to a fairly standard standard. What this place has going for it is its warmth and buzzy atmosphere. It's loud, it's bang in the middle of soho and they sell cold beer to wash down copious amounts of fairly average food. Nothing wrong with the food, just nothing spectacular or very interesting about it. Lots of drunk people like me in there making lots of noise and if that's what you're after then you'll be OK as that's what you'll get at a not unreasonable price. If you're after a more culinary experience or something that feels slightly more special somehow, look elsewhere. There are plenty of fantastic Italians all over london from Locando Localtelli to Tarantella to the River Cafe to Timo to Jamie's Italian! Oh, and if you do venture in drunk, beware the stairs to the loo. Many have come a cropper on this house of fun death trap ;-)

Yelp
Great little spot with a cozy atmosphere, friendly service, simple & well prepared Italian food...and a pretty good wine list. Stumbled on this restaurant one night and decided to give it a try. I was with my husband and a couple friends and enjoyed a lovely, relaxed dinner. Good food, good friends and a couple bottles of wine...I can't think of a better way to spend an evening. We started with a few nibbles: Italian Bread, Marinated Olives and I had the homemade ravioli with sundried tomato and goat cheese & mushroom, which had a good balance of flavors and was comfortingly delicious. We all enjoyed our entree selections and I even managed to steal a bite from my husband's tagliatelle They also have a set menu option available all day which looks like a good value: 2 courses for £12.90 (starter + main course). I was surprised there were no other reviews for this place on Yelp. I'd recommend checking it out. I'll definitely go back again.

Yelp
Very happy with the prefix dinner (13.90) with a bottle of wine we added on and then we even opted for the desert for an extra 3 pound. Really happy with the smoked duck! We came with my family for dinner and were truly happy!

Yelp
After running into some friends in Soho, we (a group of 8) decided to come here last minute for dinner because they could seat us immediately. They told us we would only have an hour and a half because another party had reservations but we didn't mind. The restaurant itself is very tiny and once the bar was full it was almost impossible to move around inside. Everything on the menu looked great and I decided to order the Caesar Salad with prawns. Big mistake. The salad came with about eight pieces of lettuce and 3 or 4 tiny prawns. Not to mention, the lettuce was practically rotting, I could barely eat it. The only reason I didn't say anything was because all of my friends received their dinners about 10 minutes before mine arrived and we were also running low on time. I reluctantly finished the salad but I was still starving so luckily my friends were willing to share. My favorite was a chicken dish with mashed potatoes but there seemed to be a lot of hit and miss with this place. Considering the area it is in, you will definitively find better food elsewhere. However, if you order the right thing then it could be a pleasant experience.

Jeffrey D.

Yelp
I was really hopeful to eat here, as i heard and read good things about it. It was frankly the most disappointing dining experience I've ever had. The manager was nasty, condescending, and rude from the beginning when she did not have record of my reservation. Once she sat us she came over and abruptly took away half of our table, forcing the three of us to share a 2 person table. It was nearly impossible to get our bottle of wine, water, and a third place setting. The only redeeming quality about this experience was the chef who came over and apologized. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone. In the eloquent words of the manager "it's not my problem, it's yours".

Vanessa S.

Yelp
The atmosphere strikes you immediately as you enter the restaurant - admittedly because you immediately are in the space for diners, but this feels cosy more than anything. This restaurant feels like home, like a place where you become a regular, because it's so hospitable. The bread is served with olive oil and vinegar, for you to choose how to mix it - a great individual touch. The portion sizes are generous and just deliciously cooked. The plating is beautiful as well. And you pay a good price for what you get, whether it is a set menu combination or a la carte. All in all there's just nothing that could be improved about the marvellous experience of dining at Forty Dean Street.

Yelp
THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER This was truly THE WORST dining I have ever experience EVER wordwide. PERIOD. If you do not want you your evening to be ruin PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE. Absolutely disgusting customer service and plain boring food. Only good thing about them is their location. Firstly, the food is so plain and unseasoned is disgrace to Italian cuisine. Popular Italian restaurant chains can do it much better for the cheaper price. We have ask some pepper or some sauces to have some sort of taste in our meal. Secondly, me and my friend ordered same dishes BUT they ended up looking and tasting completely different. Her roasted sea bass was swimming is some tasteless sauce with some unseasoned prawns on top. My dish has also mussels, which stank like river Thames. We pointed this fact to the waitress after trying to get her attention for long time. Service was extremely slow and unfriendly for the fact restaurant was half empty. Then, the waitress called the owner to our table and he simply said that she just HAVE to pay for her food anyway because she already started eating it. EXCUSE ME? SHE HAD LIKE BITE TO TRY THE MEAL and it was horrible, HOWEVER, the most HORRIBLE thing was owner's attitude and response. There is no need to get so angry about simple complaint. Mistakes happens, it is all about what you do about it. In this case, his reaction was so rude and incompetent. What was the reason to be pointing out that he is owner for 15 years? WHY taking complain so personally? and saying that IF WE |DO NOT LIKE IT THEN JUST PAY AND LEAVE ??!!!!! He has definitely anger management issues and definitely had raised his hand on the women before.... I would not recommend this place even to my worst enemy. Plus cherry on the top was different prices on the bill compare to the menu. BE CAREFUL!!

Yelp
The set menu had a very reasonable amount of choices. Really enjoyed the squid ink risotto!

Yelp
I went here on a sunny Saturday with a friend for lunch and it was wonderful! We had a three course meal from their set menu which was both delicious and great value for money. They played some great, relaxing music throughout which set a good mood. They ak charged my phone for me as it was running very low! Recommend!

Yelp
Soho packed during the week with Christmas parties and Christmas cheer. Stopped in for dinner. Wish I hadn't. Service was really slow. Water and bread non existent. Ordered pork belly special and all I got was three slabs of pure fat. Waiter was apologetic and took it off our bill which I do appreciate, but overall experience poor considering all the great food choices in and around Dean st.
