My wife and I loved our stay. The service is incredibly warm and friendly, our room was comfortable and relaxing, and the general accommodations at the house were fantastic. We looked forward to starting our day with their delicious breakfast (ask for the house specialty ginger scone). We can’t say enough positive things and can’t wait to come back! Thank you for making our 5 year wedding anniversary so special!

Google
Foster Harris House was a charming getaway. The building is meticulously furnished with a ton of personal touches that make you feel like you're staying with family. The host (Amanda if I recall correctly) was also extremely gracious and thoughtful, taking into account our wake-up time to set up a French press with fresh coffee in the common area outside our room. The cookies in the room were to die for. The breakfast was equally delightful, offering a ton of flavour without causing us to be unpleasantly stuffed. Their flagship scone was tasty as well. Foster Harris House was an easy walk to the Inn at Little Washington, so the location is great for those with dinner reservations. The house is old, so you can hear noises from the hallway or adjacent rooms, but nothing too bad. If you're very sensitive, you might want to bring earplugs just in case. The bed was cozy and the shower was very spacious. I'd definitely recommend FHH to anyone looking to visit the area.

My husband and I came to stay for our first anniversary and couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. The service was top notch, the room was pristine and beautifully furnished, and the breakfast was out of this world. We’ll certainly be back!

Google
The most amazing breakfast I’ve had! The host, Klaus, has these amazing ginger scones. The service, the antique porcelain dish ware, the decor of the home is all lovely. It’s a very lovely, elevated bed and breakfast experience. Klaus is such a kind and generous host, and made some great recommendations for nearby town spots to visit.

Google
Foster Harris House is a very comfortable, attractive but more economical alternative to staying at the costly Inn at Little Washington in order to dine at the justly famous restaurant. The room was very pleasant, the view was lovely, the breakfast was delicious and the service by Klaus, the host, was genial and very helpful. I inadvertently left a pair of shoes in the room after we departed, and Klaus promptly mailed them to me. We'd certainly stay at Foster Harris House again.

Google
We decided to stay here recently for a quick getaway, our first time in Washington, VA. From the time we arrived until we departed - following a delicious and aesthetically-pleasing 4-course breakfast - we enjoyed our time. The welcoming staff, great service, beautiful location, and rooms complete with historic touches all made Foster Harris a perfect choice for a relaxing weekend.

Google
Klaus and his staff were very accommodating, hospitable and friendly. They made our visit a wonderful experience. The Foster Harris House is beautiful and the breakfast was absolutely wonderful. We would come again and very much enjoyed our stay.

Cathleen T.

Google
We had a wonderful stay. Klaus provided good, detailed instructions from how to enter as well as the WiFi code. The breakfast was spectacular with excellent coffee, ginger scones, the ginger fruit salad, homemade sausage and quiche finished with a mini-cheesecake. Klaus made us feel right at home. It’s also walking distance from the Inn at Little Washington.

Yelp
Checked in here around 11:30 am Saturday. This place is an old house . Bed and Breakfast.Lovely lady welcomed us.Our room is medium size have a single closet . There are no refrigerator in the room .Bathroom is small but clean . Standing shower.Tea coffee plenty in the hallway. They give you free cookie. What I didn't like about this place is the amount they charge you for your room they should atleast have a TV in the room. Also there was mo lotion .

Yelp
Hospitality is defined as "friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers." Klaus ensures that everyone starts as a guest and departs as a friend. The inn itself is well appointed and the minute you step inside you feel as if you have come home and you can rest your weary bones. The bucolic and sweeping views of the scenic countryside do not disappoint, while still within walking distance of Main Street attractions and dining for those wanting to enjoy the famous Michelin restaurant nearby. However, save room for breakfast at the inn. Chef Ken makes his own maple, sage and rosemary herb sausage, spiced bacon, and egg stuffed crepes to delight! From the start of your day that begins with the specially blended coffee or tea, then a delicious breakfast that is hearty and gastronomical treat. Ken takes great pride in his cooking and soon you too will be a member of the "clean plate club". After a day out exploring, come back to your lovely appointed room and sit on the couples couch reading by the fireplace. Truly relaxing! Then, before you retire for the evening, enjoy the multi-spigot shower that massages you from all sides. Truly an exceptional way to end your day! Climb into the soft, comfortable bed and soon you will be drifting off and dreaming...knowing that you will be fortunate to awaken to another wonderful gourmet breakfast and fascinating conversation with Klaus. Did you know that he crossed paths with former presidents when he managed other bespoke hotels? His impeccable and genuine hospitality makes you feel as if you are the most important person in the room, while also making you feel like an old friend who has come to visit. Klaus will make suggestions based on your interests of places to explore from whiskey tastings, coffee roasters, and nearby nature attractions~ they all were wonderful places to experience, so make sure you ask. Finally, when it is time to depart, you already know that you want to come back again soon.

Yelp
We don't live far from Washington, VA and needed to spend just a single night in the area to prepare for other plans starting the next day, so we reserved a room at The Foster Harris House. We were already familiar with this Inn, having known about it since the McPherson's owned it and hearing nothing but rave reviews, so it was always a place we wanted to stay. The house is historic and beautifully decorated, offering updated amenities. The room we enjoyed was very comfortable and beautiful! We arrived to beautifully-prepared cookies on a cloche-covered plate in our room, next to a personalized letter to us, specific to our visit and welcoming us. The location is perfect... located within a quick walk to The Inn at Little Washington and everything else one might visit in this beautiful town. The bed was amazing! Towels were excellent and so was the water pressure from the shower. Our hosts, Klaus and Gisselle Peters were very outgoing, friendly, and accommodating! Klaus prepares, serves, and hosts morning breakfasts at this Inn as well and he does a great job keeping guests happy and in good spirit. He also prepares an amazingly delicious breakfast, which is quite substantial, at 4 courses! Overall, we really enjoyed staying here and would recommend The Foster Harris House to those looking to stay in the area.

Yelp
We lovedddd our stay at the foster harris house! Klaus and Gisele were so kind and hospitable and made sure we were well taken care of. We stayed in the macpherson room which was cozy and comfortable with an updated bathroom and an electric fireplace. I also liked that the room had a small hallway giving us an extra level of privacy. There's no service in town so they provided a cell phone in our room and wifi. Now onto Klaus' breakfast - SO GOOD. I'll be dreaming of his ginger scones forever. It was served at 9am both days we were there and it was 4 courses! Scones, fruit/yogurt parfait, egg dish (omg the béarnaise sauce) and a small dessert. It was perfect and the coffee was delicious! Everyone who comes to town goes to the Inn for dinner but do yourselves a favor and stay a 5 min walk down the road.

Yelp
As you turn into the Foster Harris House parking lot, before you is large white fencing overlooking an idyllic landscape. The parking lot offers a charging station for electric cars. We are greeted by Gisele who was picking vegetables and herbs from their lush garden. There is a small walking path around the garden. As we entered the house we were greeted by jovial Klaus. An immediate warm welcome. They have such pride in what they have to offer. Klaus shows us the living room where there is refrigerated refreshments. Then the dining area. Sad to say they had to close the restaurant due to COVID-19. But they do prepare a breakfast the following morning. If you get a chance to peek the kitchen is so inviting. A set up I would love to have. Prior to entering the cone of silence (lol where there is no cell service) we found out that we unexpectedly had to get home. But we had dinner reservations at the famous Inn at Little Washington which you should never miss out. I digress... Special note. Make sure you know the directions on how to get to Foster Harris House. GPS is also spotty. Giselle shows us the Mountain View room - it is so inviting. A beautiful queen size bed on one side of the room, a little fire stove and a love seat. Then you step down into a small solarium that has chairs to sit and admire the expansive view. Sitting on the table is a small cake stand filled with cookies along with plates and napkins. Off to to the side of the solarium is the bathroom. Beautiful with a spa like shower. We made it a point that we would take another shower before we left. It was wonderful. Because there only a few carriers, FH offers guests a cellphone so if they need to get in touch. Nice amenity. It also provided GPS so we could figure how to head home. After we settled in we took a walk through the little town. Once you pass most the businesses there is a public walking path. If you have a chance it is gives an opportunity for a relaxing meditative walk. When we got back to FH we sat on the chairs in the back yard. Stress fads as you watch the sun slowly go down and cools the night air. We informed Gisele and Klaus that we would be leaving really early in the morning so no need for breakfast. Gisele was sweet and offered if we texted them what time planned to leave that would have coffee service ready and scones that were the best around. Sadly we weren't sure when we were going to leave until we were heading out the door. The only regret is that we didn't have the opportunity to really appreciate all the amenities or the time for Gisele and Klaus' hospitality. Highly recommend Foster Harris House- it is a true gem!

Jill M.

Yelp
Klaus and his wife (owners) go above and beyond to make your stay special. We had personalized welcome notes and I was celebrating a birthday and had a special birthday song and treat at breakfast. The property is beautiful and it is within walking distance of the Inn at Little Washington. I would absolutely recommend staying here and will go back.

Chris B.

Yelp
My wife and I have now been to the Foster Harris house three times. It's superb! We will return for more, I'm sure. Everything about F.H. is A+++. The house itself has an interesting history and the rooms are welcoming and well appointed. Klaus has set out some appropriate reading material in the charming common living room, providing us with some history, some food and wine information, and even some humor relating to couples, which I assume are the most common visitors. On top of the architecture, accoutrements, and history, the place is definitely romantic. Each room is unique and offers couples their own cozy hideaway. But, enough about the house. Klaus provides a welcoming experience and shares stories about the house, his history in the hospitality business, and how the excellent food evolved through his experiences. He shares his recipe secrets, making them not so secret, I guess... but they are still unique and there's some new twist every time. The town of Washington, Virginia is small in size, but it's reputation as a hub for first class lodging and dining is immense. Thank you so much to Klaus, who welcomes us personally and warmly and remembers our past visits and preferences. After thinking about it, "superb" is probably not a good enough adjective, so pick your own after staying there.

Yelp
The food was great. Owners are friendly. Room was very comfortable. Pretty close to the national park.

Yelp
Staying here for a quick get away from our 4 year old and crazy work schedule on a Monday through Wednesday schedule. Bed is very comfortable. Klaus - owner - is accommodating and very informative. Delicious cookies were provided in our room and bottled water. Breakfast is so delicious! We were served crepe filed with soft scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and tomatoes as one of the courses. Ginger scone and fruit parfait prior. Finished with a blue berry cake for dessert!! Our view from our room is beautiful. 4.5 stars because dinner is only available Thursday through Sunday and refreshments were not in the living room as described by Klaus.

Yelp
An amazing meal--we came in and it was like cocktail hour with champagne poured and introductions all around. Wondered if it was going to be family seating, but eventually we were led to our own table. Although the chef apparently had only been on the job for a week, all the courses were delicious as were the wine pairings. It's a prix fixe menu, which took all the guesswork out of it. Compared to the inn at little Washington, this place is a bargain! The hosts were so gracious too. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We had a stellar getaway, wonderfully hosted by Klaus and Gisele. Truly marvelous! Arrival: we were greeted upon arrival by Gisele gardening outside and then received a warm welcome and tour of the inn by Klaus, who helped us carry our bags to our room. Mountain View room: exquisite room, well maintained/clean, comfortable bed, chairs and sofa. The bathroom was immaculate with a great shower. The sitting room had outstanding views of the mountains, fresh flowers and orchids to greet us, and a greeting card accompanied by cookies and fruit! Dinner: we met the other dining guests in the waiting room, and had some time to chat with the other guests, Klaus and Gisele, who also served champagne to start the night off. You could opt for the tasting menu paired with wines or without. Klaus prepared a light, nonalcoholic fruity drink to go with one of our guests' meal. For the wine pairing, each glass was delightful and accompanied each course marvelously. The seven meal course was outstanding - great soup, veggies, meat, seafood, etc. Yummy salad was served before dessert - very delicious European! We appreciated the explanation of each course and ingredients as prepared and presented by chef Stephen. Breakfast: After a restful evening, we were greeted with fresh french press coffee and hot water for tea outside our room. We leisurely lounged around until breakfast time, where we made our way to a delicious meal! Delightful ginger scones (prepared by Klaus!), outstanding bacon and potatoes and eggs, a fruit parfait, and finally, apple dessert! Even if we hadn't stayed at the inn for dinner, breakfast with lodging was well worth it. Property: chilly but crisp and beautiful in the winter. There is plenty of outdoor seating, and Klaus even has plans to create a garden! The backdrop is of the mountains, it's a breathtaking view. The town is small and intimate, you feel right at home at the inn. Overall: we'd highly recommend both the dinner and stay as they were well worth the value! The food and rooms will be remembered and we are already in talks of returning! The attention to detail and care in your stay provided by the owners created such a wonderfully relaxing evening, even if you choose to stay there without dining.

Yelp
Such a great weekend!! The Inn just changed ownership/management and the new ladies (Zoe and Dawn) that we met were absolutely fabulous. Our room was beautiful and comfortable, the surrounding area was adorable and easy to walk/bike around, and the food.... the food!! Our breakfast and dinner at the Foster Harris House were out of this world. Just ridiculously yummy and fun. Dawn is the new chef and she's incredibly talented and kind. I highly recommend this place for a peaceful, beautiful weekend. So happy for the experience!

Yelp
Great B&B with wonderful hosts who make you feel welcome and can't do enough to make sure you enjoy your stay. Highly recommended and the breakfasts are truly gourmet.

Yelp
We have always love the Foster Harris house. My wife and I think it's the 5th time we have stayed there. And of course it's a short lovely walk to the Inn a Little Washington for dinner!!!!

Christa B.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay here! Everything was spectacular from the moment we walked in the door. Klaus is a fabulous host and really takes pride in providing a great experience for you, all while being super personable. We stayed in the Garden Room and true to its name, we had gorgeous views of the garden and the rolling hills out back. The little details like the personalized welcome note and freshly baked cookies made our arrival extra special. We received a good nights sleep in the comfortable bed and enjoyed a delicious 5 course breakfast the next morning served by Klaus. We can't wait to go back for a longer stay next time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great Experience staying here! The house is charming and comfortable. Klaus is an excellent host and the breakfast next day is awesome.

Yelp
Lovely B&B near the Inn at Little Washington. Well decorated comfortable rooms, and a gourmet breakfast that's not overpowering (particularly if you stuffed yourself the prior evening at the Inn.)

Yelp
All the previous reviews are spot on. Just a few things to add. My first experience at a bed and breakfast and I am totally sold on the idea. On the recommendation of fellow Yelpers, we had dinner at The Inn at Little Washington but stayed the night at the Foster Harris House. Ambivalent on whether to go or not, we made last minute reservations for the Mary Ellen Jenkins room ($199) for the night before Thanksgiving. After work on Wednesday, we embark on our little adventure. Don't drive there late at night. The roads are very tortuous (i.e. - hair-pin turns, no street lights, shoulder-less lanes barely wide enough to accommodate 2 cars, no lane markings, tree groves so thick you feel like you are driving through a tunnel of trees). It was quite a nerve racking drive, and had I not been super vigilant, I would have driven off the road at least once which would have been disaster since our AT&T cellular service didn't work out here. At times we even lost our GPS connection on our iPhone. Upon arrival at the B&B (7pm) we were warmly greeted by Diane and the absolutely intoxicating scent of bacon. Since there were two other rooms vacant she let us have our pick for no extra charge which was awesome since we booked the room with the smaller bed. We picked the Meadow Room which was absolutely delightful. After a brief introduction to the house, she brings us up a glass of wine and tea. We had dinner reservations at the IALW at 7:30pm and dinner lasted for 3 hours, so by the time we got back there was no time to enjoy the complimentary port wine in the living room by the warm glow of the fireplace. We woke up just in time for the 9:30am breakfast, and we met David, Richard, Jennifer, and Tanner while sharing our lives' stories. The company was as good as the breakfast. My coffee never had a chance to reach the bottom of the mug because it was frequently refilled. The chocolate chip scones...MMmmm....delicious. They even allowed us to take the left over scones for the road. The bacon we smelled the night before was absolutely divine. If I can think of any complaint it would be that this isn't an AYCE B&B because I would have just feasted on the bacon and eggs alone. What made this experience absolutely memorable was John and Diane's passion and attention to the smallest details, from the cleanliness of the rooms and more importantly the bathrooms, to little notes and signs all around the house, and even the harder to appreciate things such as a free landline house phone for people who don't get cellular service (i.e. - everyone except Verizon). We felt their attention to our needs really set this place apart from even the service we received at IALW. $200 might seem like a lot before you get there, but after you leave, you totally leave feeling it was worth every penny. Loved this place and hope to be back.

Yelp
After one night in the suite here, I thought about selling everything I owned and moving in. I am still thinking about it. John and Diane are lovely, friendly and welcoming folks who truly make you feel at home. If your home was a lovely country manor with a beautiful view out the window, overlooking a well maintained garden and rolling hill, followed by an amazing 5 star 4 course breakfast. Stella the dog was an added draw. This place is lovely, so well maintained, the pride of the owners really shows, it is the closest thing to paradise I have found within hours of DC. I plan to go back here time and time again, this is by far the nicest B & B I have ever been to.

Yelp
I think it is about time that I review the FHH as it deserves a glowing review! Upon arriving we were greeted by Diane who showed us the amenities and Inn and showed us to our room. We stayed in the Compton Room which was very luxurious with a very comfy love seat, high bed, and very beautiful shower. Upon settling in we were asked if we wanted any wine, beer, or other drinks and Diane brought drinks to our room for us to enjoy. The attention to detail in the room was amazing from the wiring of lighting to the "Fashion Emergency" kit in the desk drawer; I was impressed. Coffee is served around 7:00 outside the rooms on the 2nd level and there were plenty of tea options too. I have stayed at many beds and breakfasts but I must say that the breakfast at the FHH is truly spectacular. The 4-course breakfast rivals any other sit down breakfast I've ever had. Seriously. Blackberry glazed bacon, mango chipotle salsa, poached eggs on a puff pastry, orange ginger scones are just some of the things we partook in during breakfast. The only thing that could have been improved on was the orange juice which was pulp-free and concentrate-y (it would have been great to have a Simply Orange Fresh Squeezed Variety). Overall the stay was fabulous and a great place to relax and get away from the big city (everyone who we enjoyed breakfast with was from DC). I highly recommend the FHH for a great weekend getaway.

Yelp
wow, this place is incredible! I am so glad we decided to stay here after our dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. This was our first time staying at a B&B and we weren't sure what to expect, but after staying here, we will definitely be back! There is no cell phone service once you get into the immediate area, which is wonderful for a relaxing get away, but can pose an issue if you're relying on your cell for directions. Make sure you print out directions before you leave. If you're going to explore the area or need help leaving the area when your stay is over, don't worry because John & Diane thought of everything. They will print directions out for you if you need them - super thoughtful and a great touch. Also, they have a phone that you can use if you need to get in touch with family or friends during your stay. They have thought of everything which really is what makes this such a great place to stay. When we arrived, John greeted us at the door and gave us the tour. We had booked the Mary Ellen Jenkins room (the smallest room), but since they had a cancellation, we got to see the Garden Room as well and take our pick. While the Garden Room is beautiful and much larger, we decided to stay in the Mary Ellen Jenkins room since that is upstairs and the Garden room is on the first floor right off the foyer. Everything about this place is perfect; its so beautifully furnished. Even though our room was tight, there is room enough for a queen sized bed, chair, and a small vanity with a lighted make-up mirror. After a great night's sleep, we enjoyed John's 4 course breakfast which was so delicious! Although I read online about how amazing the scones are, they're even better than I thought. Everything was so good and Diane was really friendly as she served the courses. Overall, we had a great stay here and are looking forward to coming back to try their dinner with wine pairings!

Yelp
Fabulous dinner last night! The food was delicious and artfully presented. We highly recommend the Foster Harris House for a stay AND for the food!

Yelp
In a word: awesome. This was our third visit to the Foster Harris House and each visit gets better! As always, we were greeted promptly at the door (by Diane, this time) with John shortly behind. They are such lovely hosts. They gave us a quick tour (since we were return guests, we just needed a refresher) and led us to our room. This time, we stayed in the Mary Ellen Jenkins Room, which is the smallest room, but it's cozy. (Foster Harris has three rooms - I've stayed in the Suite, Meadow, and Mary Ellen Jenkins - Meadow's probably my favorite.) They offered us a glass of wine when we arrived, but we took a rain check since we were headed to the Inn at Little Washington for dinner later that night and wanted to keep our appetites in check. After a restful night's sleep, we awoke ready for Foster Harris House's famous 4-course breakfast. Our breakfast began with dark chocolate scones, perfectly crispy and warm, accompanied by coffee (or tea if you wanted) and fresh orange juice. The next course was fresh fruit, yogurt, & granola parfait, and they thoughtfully remembered my husband's strawberry allergy so his was sans strawberries. Next came the 'main course' - puff pastry toopped with poached egg, tomato & avocado salsa, chipotle cream sauce, and "paradise bacon." Delish! the poached egg was cooked (and presented!) beautifully and the puff pastry just melted in your mouth. Last was dessert - lemon liebechen with berry coulis. As you can imagine, we were stuffed after this and ready to take on the day. After exploring the area (there are tons of wineries and smaller towns within a reasonable driving distance, many of the wineries are close by) we returned to Foster Harris, where we took up our "rain check" glass of wine and got to meet a few other guests, who were charming and delightful and also share our love for wine! We must've talked with them for over an hour - I actually didn't realize how long until I looked at my watch and realized we had only 15 minutes to get ready for dinner. First-time guests to Foster Harris may not know this, but John and Diane started serving dinners on Fridays & Saturdays at Foster Harris in the summer of 2013. We had the pleasure of joining them one evening after they'd just started so we decided with this visit to do it again. This particular Friday night, it was us and one other couple. (Note: the dinner is served in the same dining area as breakfast - it's a very cute area but definitely not restaurant like.) John's cooking at breakfast definitely translates over to dinner - we had a fabulous meal. The meal opened with a complimentary glass of Trump Blanc de Blancs flavored with a bit of Elderberry liquor. The first course was a seared sea scallop with forbidden rice and wild boar salami. The scallop was seared beautifully. Second course was a fennel soup - I was skeptical - but it was fresh and delicious, perfect for an early spring meal. The next course was a wild mushroom and truffle ravioli, which was excellent! Our next course was a lamb persillade with cauliflower and brussels sprouts (which I even ate!) - the lamb was cooked to a beautiful medium rare, so tender and delicious. (Also, we got the wine pairings - they were very generous and the refills we were offered were much appreciated.) Finally, the meal ended with a smoked chocolate souffle and wood ice cream (yes, homemade ice cream made from wood chips from a nearby distillery). Everything was just phenomenal. If you can when you visit, stay two nights to experience John's dinners - you won't be sorry (and you don't have to be a guest when you eat there). We ended our trip with another amazing 4-course breakfast the next day and were sad to say goodbye to our hosts. We look forward to returning!

Yelp
Cannot say enough good things about the Foster Harris House! Dinner: Incredible. Don't worry about specific ingredients. My wife is not a big fan of parsnips, duck, or veal, yet she absolutely loved the courses that included those ingredients. The wine pairings were excellent, we got a complimentary cocktail to start. and the bread was first rate. Room: Beautiful. We had the Garden Room on the first floor. Good thing since it was only a few steps from our dining room. LOL Breakfast: outstanding. Here again, trust the chef. Maple-pecan scones is not something I'd ever choose, but these were incredible. The owners are selling on 1/31 so they can begin work on their next venture (a restaurant somewhere in the county), and their buyer is an experienced chef and innkeeper so I'm sure he will do fine, but if you want to experience Diane and John's hospitality and cuisine you have seven weeks left to do so!

Yelp
According to Yelp 5 star means "as good as it gets." I am writing to say that this is absolutely true when it comes to Foster Harris House. On Friday night we had a remarkable dinner that was perfection. 5 courses all served in a no fuss delightful way. Hard to pick out which part of it was best but the Gazpacho made us groan and the lamb was cooked to perfection. Unbelievable! However, perhaps the most magical part was the ambience and tone of the whole evening set by Diane who single-handedly took care of the entire dining room in an efficient but thoughtful and kind way. Her husband the talented chef coming out with one course after another. It is not stuffy or pretentious but fun and wonderful. Wish I could go there regularly.

Yelp
This is my first time writing a Yelp review and I feel inspired to do so by an incredible and unique dining experience. We reserved a a table only 40 minutes in advance and Klaus was able to accommodate us. To our surprise we were the only guests in the restaurant (we were later joined by another couple) and treated like royalty. Klaus and Gisele are both incredibly charismatic and a delight to talk to. Then came the food which was absolutely delicious. We had borscht soup with these incredible home made beet chips. On top of that there was a delectable seafood paella which had a unique Mexican rice base. The ribeye was great and delivered on the expected delivery flavor, though not quite as unique as the other dishes on offer. Overall, an amazing experience -- my partner and I are hatching plans to return soon.

Yelp
My wife and I had an amazing time at the Foster Harris House! The historical home has a warm charm to it, and is walking distance to many great spots in Little Washington. The best part of the stay is the service and humor from the owner/operator, Klaus. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Amazingly quaint intimate dining experience as if you were over a friends house for dinner. I am not a wine connoisseur but I highly recommend the wine pairing. Unlike other fine dining experiences where they are shy on the pourings, they are extremely generous. Make sure you are staying within walking distance or have a designated driver. Food was phenomenal. Real ingredients with rich but healthy portions and unique. See menu below. Don't miss this if you are anywhere in the area. Far less pretentious than the "Inn". Highly recommeded.

The owners were hospitable and welcoming. We arrived to homemade cookies in our room. The spa shower was one of the best I had ever seen. The breakfast was delicious and satisfying. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return again.

Yelp
I had the best dinner of my entire life here. Hands-down! First: Parmesan Souffle with wild mushrooms and crispy baby kale Soup: Pear, shallot, Delicata Squash Second: Full salad of Iberico Lomo Main: Rosemary and sage crusted lamb loin Finish: Pumpkin Creme Brulee Sadly, the dinner was last year, so my specific memory is fading on the details. However, every single thing we received was expertly crafted and mind-blowingly delicious. The folks running the place are very down to earth and super friendly.

Yelp
An exceptional place with even more incredible service. I proposed to my fiancee last fall in Little Washington, and the staff here bent over backwards to give us an unforgettable experience. I cannot recommend them enough.

Yelp
Foster Harris House is a lovely venue in Washington, VA, just steps from the Inn at Little Washington, but it has its own special quality and vibe. I enjoyed dinner there recently, and their multi course menu was extraordinary, each serving complimenting the next. Klaus is an excellent host and made the evening an enjoyable occasion. Looking for a charming spot for a special occasion? This is it!

Yelp
This is the perfect place to stay in Little Washington. The owners are adorable. They greeted us with a tour of the house and glasses of wine delivered to our room. Although the big draw in this picturesque little town is the Inn at Little Washington, the Foster Harris House is a much more reasonably priced option, and, I would bet, a better overall experience. Of course, I can't really compare it to the Inn, since I can't afford to stay there. But we did poke our heads into the Inn's dining room, and I'd take the charming little dining room at the Foster Harris House over the gaudy, over-the-top extravagance of the Inn any time. The rooms are furnished without the usual God-awful bed and breakfast stuffy-lace-doily-ugly-antique ensemble. On the contrary, the rooms have classy modern touches, yet remain charming and elegant. We stayed in the Mary Ellen Jenkins room, which we adored. The shower was great, which is a real plus when you're dealing with the summer heat. Also, the house has a free Internet terminal if you can't survive without checking your email. And although I suggest leaving your laptop at home, they provide free wi-fi for the truly addicted. Then there's the breakfast. Oh man, they make a good breakfast. The menu rotates, but we started out with some homemade scones, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. Fruit and yogurt was delicious, and the eggs were perfect. My girlfriend had the bacon and says it was the best she'd ever tasted. As for me, the owners were careful to inquire after my eating restrictions. Breakfast is served communally, and we sat at a table with an awesome couple, talking politics the whole time. Breakfast got us fueled up for a nice hike in the Shenandoah National Park, which is just down the road. In short, this really was an ideal way to enjoy the area, and we'd love to return. A perfect DC weekend getaway!

Yelp
This Inn is magnificent! The majority of the guests, like myself and my boyfriend, stay here because they are eating at the Inn at Little Washington, which is right up the street. The owners were great in recognizing this - on our arrival they immediately let us know that they had called up to the Inn to confirm our reservation for us, and were able to get us a better time (our original reservation was for 8:45 pm, the only thing available when we called). They have flashlights in each room to take with you on the short walk up to the Inn, as it can get dark at night. Our room was beautifully appointed, the bathroom and shower were awesome. The Inn has port wine available in the living room at all times, and the owners are willing to get you anything you might need in terms of beverages. They have a small office with a computer and internet, and the Inn is also set up for free wireless internet. They have an adorable house dog named Stella! And when we got back from dinner, our bed had been turned down and was waiting. Breakfast is served relatively late (9:30), which was nice, and because the weather was nice we ate out on the patio. I can't say that I've ever had a more beautifully presented or more delicious breakfast. I really can't say enough about how good it was, and this is quite a feat since we'd had dinner the night before at one of the best restaurants in the world! And as another reviewer mentioned, yes...the bacon was the best bacon I have ever had! It also happened by chance that the couple we were seated next to at dinner the night before were our tablemates at breakfast, so we had fun talking about our meals! I would definitely recommend the Foster-Harris house, whether you are eating at the Inn or not. I wish we had been able to stay for more than one night.

Yelp
Just like the other reviewers, I chose the Foster-Harris house because of its proximity to the Inn at Little Washington ("IALW") and I'm very glad that I did. Dinner at the IALW was worth every penny but the room rates were astronomical. Foster-Harris house provides a cozy and affordable alternative to spending the night at the IALW (because, really, who wants to drive back to DC. after all that dinner/wine). Guests certainly do not have to be concerned about breakfast because the innkeepers know their way around a kitchen (as witnessed by their recently published cookbook). The chipotle-raspberry bacon is fantastic and I loved their version of eggs benedict. As Cody suggested, this is a great DC getaway and a wonderful way to start your day. Also, if you're interested in road biking, the innkeepers operate a biking/winery tour of the area called the Tour de Epicure that looks awesome.

Yelp
We recently moved to the area and decided to try FHH for dinner, after seeing information posted on the local social media. Having dinner here was an amazing experience. It is very difficult to please our worldly foodie group, and FHH not only met, but surpassed all expectations. From the personal greeting, warm atmosphere, smart and friendly conversation, to the exquisite meal by Chef Jose. The presentation was beautiful. The very attentive service was delivered with smart anticipation of our every desire. We have dined throughout the world at top in class destinations and we are now highly fortunate to have this gem nearby. We will return often. The price to enjoy a meal here is extremely appropriate considering the value and all that is included. The portion sizes are perfect. There are more expensive venues and other restaurants where it is nearly impossible to obtain a reservation and I honestly can not see how dining out could be better than the FHH.

Yelp
My wife recently made reservations at the Foster Harris House for my family and I to celebrate my birthday. Klaus has put together an amazing bed and breakfast in The Shenandoah Valley with a top notch chef and welcoming environment. He immediately makes the impression of both a master host and hospitality manager having combined every element of a great B&B and restaurant. We loved the food and wine selection (The duck was my favorite). Klaus even won over my children; the delicious Pflaumenkuchen may have helped! All bases are covered in what will become one of our favorite get-away locations. Looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Never mind 5 stars.....if I could give them 10 stars, I would! We spent a weekend with Klaus and Gisele that we will remember forever. The house is welcoming and immediately we felt right at home. Every detail is considered, down to flowers in the ice cubes! Klaus's breakfasts are the best we've ever experienced and dinner was comparable to the finest dining anywhere. We plan to return in the near future with good friends....Choosing this bed and breakfast will exceed every one of your expectations!

Yelp
This was my first experience at a B&B and I must say, the bar has been set quite high. We were greeted by Diane and given the house tour and shown to our room. We had the Mountain View room which had lovely, homey, furnishings with a sitting room full of Windows and a bathroom with a spa shower! It was everything I had imagine a B&B to be, but more. No cell service, no tv. Bliss. Folks actually met downstairs in the living room and spoke to each other. Perfect strangers. It was so refreshing to meet others and speak to them without a single phone in sight. Breakfast is served together at tables for two and all 10 of us again met in the morning and compared notes about our previous day and said our good mornings before filing into the dining room to the scent of freshly made scones. Breakfast was exquisitely prepared by the awesome Chef John. I am gluten free and he prepared gf scones just for me and also made the German pancake gf for my dietary restrictions. The avocado mango salsa and chipotle cream sauce was amazing. John and Diane provided a warm, welcoming retreat from the hustle and bustle of the greater DC area. Their hand stitched sign at the door reads "Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man". And so they are.

Yelp
Dinner was so incredible! Dawn and Zoe are an awesome mom & daughter duo. The food and dinner service provided by them were top notch. They are very warm and personable and we absolutely loved our time there. We will absolutely come back here again to see Dawn, Zoe and Klaus!!

Yelp
A very adorable B&B. We love B&Bs and this one is great. Very nice room and bathroom. We booked shortly before our trip and got the last room for the weekend. The house is beautiful and has an interesting history. The owners are making many improvements and I would go back for sure. The breakfast is amazing. We ate on the porch and it was so peaceful. Fresh scones. Perfectly poached eggs. Life changing bacon. Breakfast our favorite meal of the weekend.

Yelp
Really lovely and delicious! Loved every bite! Claud and his staff are extremely warm and hospitable, make you feel right at home. They food is comfort food yet so sophisticated and flavorful. A perfect amount of courses too, and the suggested wine pairings are excellent. I love this little town, and it's lovely for a stroll before dinner. Highly recommend Foster Harris House!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience-- 5 stars doesn't do the food and the ambiance justice. The owner makes you feel right at home and you'll never want to leave!

Yelp
I had a Valentines day dinner at the Foster Harris House. John and Diane were very warm and welcoming and it felt like we were meeting old friends. Although the place was surprisingly small, and felt a bit awkward in the beginning, we settled in 10-15 minutes into the experience. The love John puts into his cooking was obvious with each course coming to our table. It was flawless in presentation and taste. We will be back when the weather gets better :)

Yelp
Not only is the food incredible, but so is the experience. Klaus does a fantastic job of making the guests comfortable with each other so you end up feeling like you're at a dinner party rather than just a dinner out. It's a gift. And of course the food is absolutely delicious (I'm vegetarian and was also given a thoughtful, delicious menu) and the rooms are gorgeous.

Yelp
A wonderful experience from start to finish. We checked into the Mountain View room which, in addition to the bedroom, has a quaint little adjoining room with two chairs, a small round table and a breathtaking view of the mountains. Everything in the room was perfect and immaculate. The breakfasts are amazing; Chef Dawn is incredibly talented. One piece of advice: come hungry. Do not pass on the homemade scones. Addicting! The new owner, Klaus, along with Chef Dawn and her daughter, Zoe, made our two night stay complete. I've been raving about it to my friends and am excited to spread the good word on Yelp. What are you waiting for? Don't walk...run...and make a reservation! It's worth it.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about our experience at the Foster Harris House. At every turn, they provide a warm welcome, gorgeous/comfy accommodations, and an atmosphere that one cannot help but feel relaxed in. They go the extra mile - for example, I had forgotten to warn them of my wife's allergy to nuts until sitting down to breakfast. They didn't even blink an eye. Within two minutes they delivered her a wonderful alternate course every bit as sumptuous as mine. What a class act. We will absolutely be back again. Thanks for a wonderful visit!!

Yelp
Stunning meal. The host Klaus was wonderful from the time of booking through to the goodbyes. It is a 6 course menu for 5 couples, but the Chef enthusiastically put together a vegan and gluten free menu just for me. It was only comparable to Elizabeth's Gone Raw for the respect for plants, creativity, flavor, diversity and presentation. It was an absolute privilege and a joy to eat. My husband along with the other 8 diners had the "regular" menu, which he enjoyed and also looked beautiful. Great wine as well. We will definitely return for special celebrations!
