Four Brothers Bistro & Grill is a well-kept secret on Lombardy Street in Richmond, VA, on the corner of a brick mall not too far from Maymont Park. Four Brothers used to have a Food Truck, but now they’re proud to serve you from their brick and mortar establishment seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. My husband and I were greeted warmly by Josh, the manager, as soon as we entered the restaurant. Josh welcomed us by telling us all about the menu, featured on the left when you enter, and the daily special, the loaded Texas Jack Burger. We soaked up all the tasty details about this diverse menu, which included gyro pita wraps, black and bleu burger, turkey cheddar bacon sub, Reuben sandwiches, chicken Caesar Wrap, Greek salad, and Cobb salad, in addition to sides such as potato salad and Volcano fries.
We had made up our minds that we wanted to order the Philly cheesesteak and the bacon cheese fries, as I had thoroughly enjoyed this meal previously at the sadly now-closed Virginia Center Common location a few years back with a friend. A victim of the Pandemic, this location of Four Brothers was the sole reason that we decided to make the trip to Four Brothers on Lombardy.
When our orders came up so quickly, we were dazzled by how inviting and scrumptious our melting cheese looked all over our subs and fries! Steaming hot cheese dancing with sauteed onions and thinly sliced, sauteed steak, between two toasted sub rolls, made this cheesesteak a delight. I chose mozzarella (that’s the classic choice for a Philly cheesesteak, or so I thought?) and my husband enjoyed American cheese (the *other* standard cheese choice for Philly cheesesteaks). Whose steak sub was better? It was impossible to decide!
There’s nothing I enjoy more than potato skins on French fries, so these cheese fries did not disappoint. Leaving the skin on the fries not only makes them more attractive to look at - ah, brown ridges and bumps, there you are - but more flavorful as well. These fries were fried perfectly, so that they remained crisp under the melted cheese and chopped bacon. Let’s talk about that bacon - it was rendered flawlessly to give it that crispy crunch, that thick texture, that salty, meaty flavor.
It’s time to return to Four Brothers to try their burgers, as many people mentioned in their Google reviews how much they enjoyed them. When do you plan to go to Four Brothers?
