The Best Afternoon Tea In DC 2024 - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"You’ll find ex-pat Brits and devoted Anglophiles partaking in afternoon tea at the Four Seasons, and we love that this pastry-centered event is a proper tea service that makes you feel more like you’re in London than Georgetown. This is tea for formal, fancy occasions with a price tag to match ($55 for kids and $95 for adults), with bites inspired by the sweet and savory tastes of the British Royal Family. That means there’s seriously good Battenberg cake and plenty of scones, as well as Champagne and caviar." - madeline weinfield

Google
I ordered the beef with mixed vegetables, fried wontons, and fried tofu with mixed vegetables. The food was meh. I did not love the food or hate the food. The portion size was small considering it is Chinese food. There was a lot of liquid in the beef with mixed vegetables. Fried wontons was the best dish out of all three, but there was not a lot of meat in the wonton. All this cost $30 and I do not think it is worth $30.

Google
A small family run restaurant with a nice selection of daily specials. It's not fancy, but the people are really nice, the food is good, freshly prepared, and reasonably priced.

Rohit Johri

Google
Ordered Chicken Chowmein & Schezwan chicken. Was given wrong order AFTER confirming the phone number for pickup. It was raining so could not go back to return it. And whatever was given had marginal chicken and no taste whatsoever. Just had lots of veggies in some tasteless sauces. Won’t be ordering again.

Mia

Google
The service takes FOREVERRRR I waited around 20 minutes for an online order and the person that was in there before me hadnt even got their food. I got tired and decided to just walk out because they were wasting everyones time, mind you it was only me and 2 other people in there.

Google
I was recommended to this place and after eating here, I don't think that person like me at all smh. I ordered General Tso Chicken. The chicken had a funny taste rice was mushy. Amdto top it off I spent $20 Just overall bad 👎🏾. Don't waste your money.

Titania Carter

Google
Ordered take out..took forever but they did seem busy, the general tso chicken was not good.,something was off with the sauce and what happened to the broccoli. Fried rice was ok but since when did fried rice cost almost $15. Dumplings ok.,the shrimp in garlic sauce was just ok.

Anna Evans

Google
Food is one note flavors Chicken fried rice is nothing but the mushy brown rice with some chicken and peas mixed in. No flavors of sauces, no egg. Chicken lo mein no flavor. Noodles with flavorless sauce and no veggies. Rice is mushy. Egg rolls Greasy. $35 for a $5 meal

Jennifer Kling

Google
Great food. . You can tell they made it fresh. The taste is as fid ass a restaurant, with a less expensive cost. Great for pickup or dining in.

David M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 7+ years with my brother and pops. Great customer service, and my favorite item is the fried chicken wings with fried rice.
google avatar

Yelp
Reviews lead me to believe this might be a good Chinese restaurant but my food said otherwise. The chicken teriyaki tasted weird and my chicken with garlic sauce severely lacked taste and flavor. My hunt for good Chinese food in Alexandria continues......

K R M.

Yelp
I wish I would have looked at the reviews on Yelp before I ordered Pad Thai and eggplant with garlic sauce on GrubHub. Shrimp was not cleaned. See attached picture.Pad Thai tastes like Al dente pasta no seasoning at all. This is an insult to call this dish Pad Thai. Eggplant is salty versus spicy. Delivery was awful. Driver let bag outside on ground in snow and utensils poked thru. Food was cold when it received. This location is less than 10 minutes from my house. So disappointed.
google avatar

Clifford F.

Yelp
Food is good. Only Chinese restaurant in the area that serves egg foo yung. Definitely will try their other dishes

Bruce B.

Yelp
Food was very bland. No seasoning or taste. Very disappointed. Won't be going back at all.

Becky J.

Yelp
Not a good experience this time. Ordered delivery took over an hour we only live down the street. The food was cold . The dumplings were awful last time I ordered there dumplings they were delicious! Chunk of unrecognizable meat in my vegetable moo shu. Very disappointed and gave them a generous tip.

Yelp
You wouldn't know it by the name, but this reliable spot serves up delicious Chinese food. Usually you can't get good, cheap and fast, but this place delivers, but literally and figuratively. Good quality ingredients paired with rich umami flavors make for some of the best takeout around. After trying a half-dozen Chinese restaurants, this is our new go-to, having ordered from there twice in the last week. Look for savory, delicious fried rice, chicken, pork and seafood dishes in generous portions at an affordable price. We'll be back for more.

Steve J.

Yelp
Food is typically good, but it can vary. I guess it just depends on who's working in the kitchen on that day. Service is perfectly fine. Ambiance is ok, pretty much the same everywhere for a small eatery. Attached photo is my receipt which proves my patronage.

Yelp
We ordered Four Seasons via GrubHub for Yelp's Big Night In event. We had never tried this restaurant before so we thought it would be a good time. Ordering was easy with the GrubHub app, always a bonus. Our food arrived right in time. Our order, however was incomplete. We were missing a side of fried rice. I called the restaurant and they were apologetic. They said they were very busy and it would take 90 minutes for the next driver to make it out to us. They did offer us a credit for our next order, although I'm not site how they would be able to do that. The food itself was pretty good. It was still very warm when it arrived too! We ordered egg rolls, but what we received was more like a big spring roll with just cabbage on the inside. I was bummed that it wasn't a traditional egg roll, but they were good.

Sheree B.

Yelp
Please don't order from this restaurant, they are very disgusting I was sold old chicken & rice that had a weird smell it was also reheated and boxed as if they didn't care if they killed me.
google avatar

Yelp
You know how you're always looking for that little hole in the wall restaurant with amazing food that only the locals know about? Well this is not it! There is absolutely no spice to dishes annotated on the menu as spicy and the food is bathed in funky grease ( maybe seafood and poultry all in the same grease- not sure but I know it was bad) and sugary sauces. I wasn't going to write a review but about 15 minutes after my party of 3 departed, leaving the half eaten dishes behind, we all had the rumbling in the tummy and you can guess how the rest of the evening was spent. I rate this below the 2-star mock Chinese food at Panda Express because at least at the Panda we didn't get sick.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite Chinese delivery in the area. Moved away for a while, but now that we're back we ordered again, and wow has it gone downhill. This might be the worst Chinese I've ever had. We ordered chicken lomein, Mongolian beef, and sweet and sour chicken. All had strange flavors, none of which I would attribute to food. Combined with the ridiculous price relative to the portion size, we won't be ordering again. Silver lining of the small portions: less food waste, as we'll be throwing this away.

Yelp
I had an old menu from this restaurant. So I decided to order on line. I ordered mixed vegetables and chicken wings. I noticed that chicken wings were no longer $4.95, but $10 +. It still stated there would be 6 pieces as the old menu. I thought it would be 6 whole wings. To my surprise it was 6 party wings. So I paid $10+ for chicken that costed less than $5 a year ago. I know everyone is hurting because of the pandemic, but this is absurd! What a rip-off, never again! The 2 stars are for the well cooked mixed vegetables.

Renae P.

Yelp
The food was the best I've had in our area in a long time. Service was fast and the employees were so kind and virtuous. Highly recommend for your next Chinese food take out.

Carol G.

Yelp
Tried to change star rating to 3 but system won't allow me to do it!! It's no longer a 5-star restaurant. Last couple of orders were not up to par for taste compared to previous orders. I think their cooking staff may have changed. I've ordered a variety of items & well, I've been totally disappointed. Now looking for a new place.

Yelp
I ordered from them recently on Grubhub. I got the happy family with brown rice ($17,95), a Dr. Pepper ($2.35), and crab Rangoon ($5.95). The happy family had shrimp, scallops, beef, roast pork, and chicken with sauteed vegetables. The crab Rangoon had six pieces. It was fried in batter and shaped like a starfish interestingly enough. The meal got to my house in 35 to 45 minutes. I am on Franconia about a mile west of Telegraph. The sales tax was $1.58, the delivery fee was $1.00, and the tip for the driver was $5.00. I believe there was a promotion this day because a meal of this price usually has about a $4.00 service fee. Often I am deterred from ordering via Grubhub because the fees are so high. I have no issues with the restaurant. The ingredients were fresh and tasty and the meals were an interesting choice of ingredients. No complaints.

Yelp
Ordered Thai Basil Chicken on Uber Eats and either I received the wrong food or this is absolutely disgusting. The chicken was so chewy I couldn't bring myself to swallow it. There are snap peas for some reason, and the taste as a whole was supposed to be spicy when it wasn't. I immediately spit the food out and threw it away. Do not order from here.

Yelp
This little cafe is a solid option for Chinese takeout. I stopped in for a quick order of shrimp fried rice and egg rolls, and for the most part, I was fairly pleased the service and food. My shrimp fried rice was spot on. It was delicious feast that wasn't greasy at all, and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. However, I wish that I could say the same for my egg rolls, because those beauties were dripping in grease. I love egg rolls and fancy myself as something of an egg roll Master, so this failing was really disappointing. On a brighter note, the owner was very friendly, and my order came out at the speed of light. Also, Four Season Cafe location is right across from the Cox Cable Office, and what better way to celebrate a cable upgrade than with a nice dish or shrimp fried rice.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Not to be confused with "4 Seasons" bakery/cafe off Pickett! My family ordered a large takeout order for New Year's Eve. Based on the recommendations of other Yelpers, I ordered the fried chicken wings and the sesame chicken. I also got the Singapore shrimp fired rice. My dad got the Szechuan crispy chicken. I wasn't really impressed with the food, but by no means was it bad. To me, it tasted like 90% of the other Chinese food I've had in my life. The Szechuan chicken was definitely the best dish though. The wings were breaded just right, but again, lacked the kind of seasoning I was hoping for. For a Chinese joint, the a few of the dishes were surprisingly lacking in salt (specifically the Singapore fired rice - and the shrimp, specifically). The breading on my sesame chicken was a little too heavy for my taste. The only thing that actually tasted FRESH was the broccoli. But like I said, it tasted like most other Americanized Chinese food I've had, so while it doesn't separate itself from other places, the food is more than adequate. For what it's worth, I'm very willing to try this place again!

Yelp
-------------- ~11:00pm - 5/11/11 --------------- 4 stars Okay...I think I can say I'm a fan. Unfortunately we don't live near here so probably won't be back anytime soon, but I ended up having dinner here too just a few hours later!!! This time we had take-out and ordered Beef Chow Fun, Triple Delight again, and fried rice. It was all very good. I think we even got our friend who lives nearby hooked. -------------- ~5:00pm - 5/11/11 --------------- 3.5 stars Nothing to go crazy over, but we decided to stop by and dine-in for a quick lunch. We ordered the Triple Delight and Beef Lo-mein and were pleasantly surprised. This places is setup more like a take-out joint but there are few tables on the side for sitting down to eat. I was expecting plastic trays with styrofoam plates and plastic utensils, but instead the food was brought out on real plates with real silverware. The food was great and lunch prices pretty cheap, averaging like $6. The egg rolls came out looking awesome, but the filling was heavy on the cabbage...but at least cabbage is good for you right ;)

Yelp
They need to update the hours on the site they are closed on Mondays, according to the handwritten note on the door. Unfortunately, this didn't stop the charge on my card when I ordered food for pickup. So not only did I waste time driving there, I'm going to spend more time trying to get my money refunded.

Yelp
The orange chicken has a pretty good amount of taste in chenpi which are missing in a lot of Chinese carryout places. Also, I am very impressed with the spring roll too. I think it taste as good as most other authentic dim sum places in DMV. One suggestion. Try light up the sauce on the orange chicken. Now it is a little bit too sweet and thick.

renee m.

Yelp
Food always fast delivery and very hot. Delicious, I would prefer a bit more salt in my dishes and soup. I just add to it. Other than that it's great. Plus they sell egg rolls. Many places only have spring rolls on the menu. They are my first choice for Chinese takeout. I've tried just about all Chinese restaurants in Kingstowne area. 4 Seasons Cafe is 1st choice. A must try. !

Brian K.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood Chinese takeout place the a large menu and excellent food. I personally like the crispy shredded chicken or beef but it is all very tasty.

Kristie B.

Yelp
We did not enjoy the food from here. It definitely isn't close to House of Dynasty is quality or taste. Looking for a substitute because HoD is so expensive. This place is not going to be on our list. The orange chicken was much maligned by our kids and we would have been better served hitting up Panda. The dumplings were not seasoned to our liking and were incredibly doughy
google avatar

K K.

Yelp
We order from here often. Food is always hot and fresh. The Chicken with Basil is so good! Would give them 5 stars, but their prices have gotten ridiculously high in the past year. Paying $17-18 for a Chinese takeout entree (from a hole-in-the-wall) is high! Almost as pricey as House of Dynasty, and they are a full-service restaurant!

Yelp
I have been ordering from this restaurant for two years now and all of a sudden I get my food dropped off at the front door with no receipt. Really good food but next time someone orders I would like my receipt in hand. I will not be ordering hear again the lack of Communication
google avatar

Yelp
I feel so torn writing this review. The meat dumplings were very nearly the best I've ever tasted in my life. I would order them from this restaurant again even with all of the negatives I am about to talk about. Yummy yummy. So, the negatives...I ordered lunch online from beyondmenu.com and my food took 90 minutes to get to my house. After 40 minutes I called beyond menus and they assured me that my food was on the way. 20 minutes after that--one hour after I ordered I called the restaurant and they insisted that beyond menus sent them the order "very late" and that was the reason my food was late. I told them it didn't matter if it was beyond menus or not it still reflected poorly on their business. No real apology or offer to compensate at all. Bad customer service. I ordered the salt and pepper shrimp and the shrimp were big and tasty, but not properly deveined. I had to pull out the veins..little poopy tubes... before I could eat them. Yuck. What a horrible way to ruin some fantastic food. My daughter ordered beef and broccoli which had only a few pieces of beef and the sauce was like water. Not good at all. I'm so sorry that it wasn't better...mostly because I KNOW there is potential because the dumplings and fried rice were so fantastic. Like I said, I'll give them another try just for the dumplings.

Yelp
We had takeout from the restaurant months ago. When we came home noticed that some of the food is missing. I called the restaurant and they said no problem we will issue a credit for an order in the future. I called today to place an order and asked for the credit to be applied towards part of this order. The woman rudely told me that there is no credit also implying that I am trying to get free food or something. Finally she said ok what do you want to order.. I might apply a credit for something and I said no thanks keep your credit. Horrible service. Rude owner. I would rather loose the credit than ever eat there again. I went to house of dynasty instead, amazing food and good customer service.

Yelp
Best local "go to" for Chinese! My favorite is the house special rice noodle and pan fried noodles! Family owned and run!
google avatar

Susan J.

Yelp
It was so close to almost deliciousness...I ordered a thai basil shrimp w white rice and egg roll for carry out lunch. Upon opening my container, I found a measly tip of basil, 5 gigantic shrimps and chock full of peppers, onions and carrots in the typical soy brown sauce. This meal should have been renamed shrimp w peppers and 1 basil as garnish.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Amazing crispy chicken in all dishes we got. Huge takeout order and none of it was soggy or cold. One thing to note- if you order through yelp, make sure to clarify you want white or fried rice with each dish or you don't get any.
google avatar

Tanvir R.

Yelp
Food was disgusting, too much broccoli in chicken popultry. order fried rice too but not enough rice. Waste my money. Delivery was late too.

greg s.

Yelp
The best delivery/take away chinese in kingstowne area. They always accommodated special requests (no celery, light onion, no mushroom, etc). Despite sometimes language challenges, VERY nice and friendly. Delivery person always polite and smiling. Portions always big. Definitely recommend calling in order direct. It has been my experience that using the trend services generally results in longer wait, cold food and ridiculously high "delivery" fee. Support the small business, not the middle man.

Judy L.

Yelp
What kind of restaurant can't put veggies on the side from the lo mein! It's a dollar difference which is fine but after ordering on Uber eats and tipping how about just throw in some crunchy noodles. I mean damn we are all struggling. This business doesn't need to be rude and aggressive. Never again. Avoid if you are a picky eater.
google avatar

Lena W.

Yelp
We moved here almost a year ago from out of state and have tried so many Chinese take out places it was getting to the point we were tired of wasting our money and time. Finally, we have found our go to for Chinese food. Everything was good and nothing was thrown out. Will definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Heidi O.

Yelp
Fantastic Peking Duck, fantastic management/staff. Friendly as all get out! My husband and I both left the house without our wallets. When we realized it, we cancelled our order. The manager said, no problem, come back tomorrow and pay us! Hospitality at its best. Wish I could leave six stars.
google avatar

Elvira P.

Yelp
I ordered sesame chicken. I was disappointed that it was hardly any chicken in the nuggets mostly was grease and grizzly. I won't waste my money in that restaurant anymore.
google avatar

Robert A.

Yelp
We have been ordering from here for years. It was never great, but a passable option in a bind. Yesterday we ordered a meal that could barely be consumed. The pork fried rice tasted like it had been heated and reheated, and it tasted almost rancid. The scallion pancakes were greasy. The pork spareribs also looked like they had been around for a while. Don't think that I will be ordering from them again. I did call them before posting this, and asked to speak to the manager. They were not available, and the person I spoke with offered to cook us another meal. I declined as I was not going to go through that again.
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
I know I initially gave this place 4-stars but we have eaten here many times since then and would like to give it 5-stars. The food has always been good and if there is ever an issue they are quick to resolve. The staff are themselves family and very friendly. I was sad to see they had to close temporarily recently but glad they have reopened.

Irene L.

Yelp
One of my favorite in the area. Love the triple delight. I would drive 20 min there to get Chinese carry out and I have 4-5 around me that would say something to you.
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese place in the area. The carry outs in DC don compare. The food is always great portion size and doesn't taste like oil. They have lunch specials and are situated in a nice easy to find area. They have parking so it makes the travel worth it.
google avatar

Charisse G.

Yelp
I know how hard it is to find the perfect Chinese take-out place to call your own, especially when they all have a ~3 star rating. (We get it, the Sesame Chicken is too spicy for your taste) This is me telling you, you've found the one. I grew up in this area and Four Seasons has been around for a while. I remember getting delivery from them as a kid. Since moving back I've ordered from this place a couple of times randomly and it's even better than I remembered! (I remember their fried rice being the best growing up -- still great!) First of all, the fried chicken wings. Listen. This is as close as you get to NY Chinese fried chicken in the area. Sooo crunchy and crispy!! Order 2 bags. As an alternative, I'd say go with anything duck! Peking Duck or the Boneless General Tso. What! I know right? Lightly crispy --not battered-- pieces of duck with "traditional" General Tso sauce. The Peking Duck comes with hoisin, scallions and tortillas (which make it so much easier to roll up and tastes amaazing) Their typical delivery favorites of the Fried-Then-Sauced variety are great too bc of the extra crunchiness and freshness of the veggies. No soggy over cooked pieces of broccoli here! I usually order through a delivery service --no delivery fee! (This would probably help for those of you who are complaining about not being able to understand them on the phone *sips tea*) The drivers are always very friendly, and if I ever talk over the phone they are very accommodating. If you're looking for a perfect quick Chinese take-out place this is it! Fast, Friendly, and Delicious!

Yelp
It's Christmas day and my family and I decided to order Chinese for dinner because everything else was closed. I called at 9:00 pm and they closed at 10:30 pm. We received our delivery at 10:00 pm, but that was okay since we weren't starving when we ordered. We had two orders of Sweet and Sour Chicken and one order of Orange Chicken. Each order came with noodles or fried rice, but we had ours with noodles. Here's a description of our orders: - The sweet and sour chicken: One separate box of sweet and sour sauce and one box of fried chicken pieces with 2 slices of green bell pepper and 2 cubes of pineapple and three slices of steamed onions. So, we poured the sauce on the chicken and tastes BLAND. - The orange chicken: 1 box with the chicken in it. This one was definitely better than the sweet and sour chicken. It wasn't tasteless, but it's definitely not the best orange chicken I've had. - The noodles: Definitely the most tasteless noodles I've ever had. They were very sticky and bland. We intentionally ordered the most basic, traditional Chinese dishes because it was our first time trying out this place. Nothing tasted fresh or flavourful and I don't know if I'd give it a second chance.

Yelp
I ordered from here on Sunday for the first time. I was really in the mood for Chinese and wanted to try this place out versus my normal one because the menu offered some more options. My food took an hour to arrive (which was within estimated time) and I figured maybe this was because I ordered during rush hour yet I live barely 3 miles away. However, when the driver finally arrived, my door was knocked on and as I was trying to get to it not even a minute later it seemed like he was calling me through the door saying "Hello? Your food is here." Which came off as a little rude but when I opened my door, he seemed a little out of breath and maybe even stressed? It was hard to tell. In any case, I ordered the Roast pork lo mein, Beef chow mein, Vegetable fried rice, and Fried chicken wings with fries. None of my orders were steaming hot. When I tasted it, it was on the warm almost cool side. I ate it because I was starving but it would've been nice if the food was hot. The fried rice wasn't even completely fried. I still saw bits of white here and there. That aside, I did like the taste of the food but they could have done a much better job. Which is why I give it a rating of 2 stars.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Having read all of the positive reviews, I was very hopeful Four Seasons Cafe would become my spot for take-out Chinese. Unfortunately the chicken and broccoli I had was virtually tasteless. I ordered it extra spicy, but I suspect they forgot because there was absolutely no spice. The broccoli probably started out fresh, but it was way overcooked. The chicken was fine and the white rice was properly cooked (i.e., not mushy). The food was certainly edible, but it was far too plain for my taste. I highly doubt I'll be back.
google avatar

Winston J.

Yelp
The food is pretty decent for Chinese American carry out. The common dishes that I ordered are beef chow fun, crispy shredded beef, shrimp lomein, and shrimp fried rice. In general, Chinese food is greasy. This place is no different. The food is fine. It has some wok flavors and not overly salty. The management has an odd way of doing business. I've been a patron since they opened. They've a promotion that customers are given a free item for a certain amount spent. It's even printed on their menu. I always find myself reminding the lady (owner?) who takes the order to include the free item. They would've received an extra extra if this service was better.
google avatar

Perrin S.

Yelp
I've ordered from them 3 times, basic Americanized Chinese fare. The first time, the crab rangoon were overcooked, small, lumps of dough filled with hardened faux crab/cream cheese. The second time, the Szechuan chicken was mostly julienned carrots and bamboo with thin--almost invisible--slivers of chicken. The third time, after waiting 1 hour, 5 minutes, I received a phone call telling me that their driver had lost (or locked?) his keys in his car and they had to remake the food and send it out. The monologue sounded practiced. House of Dynasty is the best local Americanized Chinese around Kingstowne, but they don't deliver, but I suppose that it's worth the pick-up if this is the best that delivery has to offer.

Yelp
I ordered carry out. The food was ready when I went to pick up about 15 minutes after I placed the call. When I got home and ready to eat the food, I discovered that 1) they gave us the wrong food. Instead of the Mix Vegetables that I ordered, I got the stir-fried beef with snow peas and mushroom instead. My husband ended up liking the dish though. 2) I ordered Sweet and Sour Pork, but they forgot to put in a container of the sweet and sour sauce. Luckily, I have a bottle of the sweet and sour sauce in the fridge so I used that. Another item that I ordered was the Kung Pao Chicken and I'm glad that they correctly put it in to my bag. It was delicious.
