"When the time comes for restaurants to reopen in New Jersey, Leigh-Ann Martin has one of the most intimate dining spaces in town: Her kitchen table. Martin’s pop-up, A Table for Four — named for the snug table in her dining room where she serves guests — revolves around Trinidadian dishes cooked in her Union City kitchen." - Elazar Sontag

Had breakfast with a group of friends here and it was the best experience! It was quiet when we were there around noon. Our waitress was really lovely and helpful, was not expecting much from the food but it was absolutely delicious! The pancakes were the best so definitely give them a try. Portions are big too. Will definitely come back if we visit NJ again.

First time going here and I will be back. The pancakes were to die for, delicious. On a rainy evening the place was almost empty but the service was amazing and the atmosphere so warm and cozy I felt like Christmas came early. If I had managed to pick a song from the jukebox I would have called it a throwback to good times. They can add more variety to the selection in those that's the only thing I would suggest they change. Waiter was 5 star customer friendly. I love diners and don't get to go to them as often as I like but this was a great reminder of why Diners are the symbol of American culture and need to be cherished.

Nice place to have breakfast, located in Union City. Staff was so friendly and amazed with us the whole time! Lots of options in the menu - with some good combos. Food is good - but it could be a bit better. Anyway, a good place to go, that we'll visit again.

Google
I'm seeing a mixture of reviews on this place but I can only speak to my own experience. I was in Weehawken visiting my sister who is in town. This was literally the closest diner we could find on Google Maps and after having a HUGE lunch in Hoboken, this seemed like a good spot to go to for a late dinner. We arrived a little bit after 8PM and the place was relatively empty. We loved the vibe and the decor and the diner was very clean and well lit. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. My sister only got a fruit cup and a drink but I ended up getting a cheesesteak and a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. We both loved what we ordered and even talked about coming back sometime during the week, as my sister will be here visiting for 10 days. The diner closed at 10PM so we ended up heading out around 9:45PM. I was telling my sister that many diners in NJ used to be open 24 hours but not anymore, since Covid. Still, glad we stopped here — we enjoyed it and everyone working was very nice.

I was out in Union City at night and needed some decent eats. I came across this diner which was about to close in about a half hour. I decided on a standard cheeseburger done medium rare. I didn't have to wait long to get my food and it was more than satisfying. I finished my meal with time to spare. If I'm in town again I'll definitely eat here. I'm curious about the bison burger.

Google
Food is fairly good and a decent price point and service is good. Only thing I can complain about is hygiene, I asked for plastic tableware (forks and knives) because their silverware is rustic and just doesn’t look the cleanest. While my family and I were there, the waitresses started preparing more silverware for the other tables at a table among all of the customers as we were all eating. just didn’t seem like proper restaurant etiquette and cleanliness.

Google
Diners used to be amazing places to get food. So hard to find a good one anymore. This place isn’t one of the good ones. First the guy who greeted us at the door pointed us to a table instead of bringing menus & walking us to the table. Second the server was very sweet but had obviously not been trained. She had no knowledge of the foods ingredients. My burger was pretty good, nothing to brag about. The milkshake was pure milk & not thick at all. Food came out in weird orders like the toast with the breakfast came out last, after the food was finished. My daughter’s burger came out without the cheese or bacon she ordered. When they brought out her blue cheese sauce, it was brown not white. Looked more like doo-doo cheese than blue cheese. Home fries looked like straight boiled potatoes with no seasoning. I don’t blame the waitress for any of this. Only management. They should be training their employees by allowing them to shadow a server for a week or two before they actually start serving. The food should come out all at the same time. The quality of the food is subpar. I definitely won’t be coming back here.

Google
Found a plastic bag in my soup! Originally was not going to leave a review but after calling and letting the manager know, he blamed the delivery driver for putting the plastic bag in my soup. Didn’t take any responsibility or apologize! I was not looking for a refund, I called more to let them know for awareness. I understand mistakes happen but own up to it and apologize rather than blaming others!

Yelp
Sad that They don't even let know to the customers they were closing business!!! As a long time customer they should let people know

Yelp
I'll start with the positive - I love vintage-feel diners and this spot felt like I was sucked into a timewarp back to the 1950s. The menu is standard and the food is dependably prepared. Staff are supportive of little kids tossing food onto the ground and will do whatever is necessary to help you feel "at home." Don't worry about parking (spacious lot) and there are plenty of local shops if you're antsy to explore the surrounding area. On the flip side, this diner feels like most other diners with tacky furniture and average food selection. The dishes taste a bit bland and their parking lot, unfortunately, is prone to vehicles "passing through" (at unsafe speeds). Great wifi, though, making it a good spot to stay for several hours on the computer (e.g. zoom meetings) while sipping a cup of coffee and having a hearty breakfast / brunch.

Yelp
Four star diner? I think two star diner would be more fitting. With diners like these I know to only order safe basic things like eggs and home fries. Me and my friends stopped here after thrifting at my unique and were starving. We were disappointed firstly by the prices. Being from new york we can understand high prices. But even I was shocked to see that 2 eggs with un- substitutable home fries was 7.50, and if i wanted to add bacon I would have to pay 12.50. Next, the food itself. My dish: Eggs with home fries and toast. 1- Eggs, fine, can't really mess those up but not great. 2- The "Home fries," they were clearly from some sort of powder. Unseasoned, we couldnt taste anything but whatever powder its made from. It was literally mush, look at the pictures. Grilled mashed potatoes. Me and my friend couldn't eat them whatsoever Toast: Pretty good and came with butter 4/10 My friend lu ordered turkey sausage and planned to eat my home fries. The sausage was pork which she cant eat so... yeah she didnt eat anything. my other friend ordered a wrap with eggs in it and it came with a side of home fries. she said it the wrap edible but was still obviously disappointed. Positive takeaways: We explained to the manager how bad the food was (which is some karen shit that i would NEVER usually do) and he agreed to give us %15 off as well as comp the sausage. He then gave us the bill and didnt take off the sausage so i had to ASK AGAIN but whatever. It was nice of them to be agreeable in the end. Also, the ambiance in there was SO CUTE which made us super excited to eat there which is why this was even more of a let down.

Ivan V.

Yelp
Everything. Bad service. Subpar food. Rushing you through your already bad meal because "we are closing at 8:00 pm" despite their hours clearly stating they close at 10:00. Managers treating their staff better and keeping fights and squabbles off limits to patrons. But it's too late. It's closed.

Corina G.

Yelp
I've visited Four Star Diner a few times for breakfast and have also ordered delivery from there for dinner. It's fairly standard diner fare which I love! Extensive menu, fast service, friendly waitstaff, reasonable prices. Delivery is consistent and generally reliable. I'll keep coming back/ordering from FSD, especially when I can't figure out what I want to eat.

Shafina I.

Yelp
I order dessert or onion rings from here sometimes and always enjoy my quick bites. The staff is very nice and their food is of quality.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Food was way below expectations, prices do not reflect what's written on menu so I overpaid for 2 milkshakes for $30. Burgers were cardboard, my partner didn't even want to finish it. Service was atrocious. Made us wait 20 minutes to get our check and they only paid attention to us when we waited by the front. Place was dead when we arrived so I wondered why it took so long to get our checks. Does have an old school diner feel but it's ultimately a let down. Never eating here again.

M S.

Yelp
My favorite spot for breakfast food. Sad they have closed. The price is good and you get a good amount of food. My servers are always great.

Maxim L.

Yelp
I wouldn't have posted a review unless not seen something this horrific. One of the waiters had not washed his hands after going to the bathroom. I was in there minding my business and after he was done, he just left. He didn't wash his hands or anything. I know I am not going back there.

David K.

Yelp
I don't understand this place having so many negative reviews. The breakfast here is everything you want from a classic diner--good food, generous portions and a reasonable price. I highly recommend their blueberry pancakes, as well as their sausage. The place has a wide selection of breakfast staples and provides enough selection for everyone's taste. This is the place to recover the morning after a late night!

Chanel L.

Yelp
Service was OUTSTANDING. The women that work here are so lovely and supportive. It seems like many of them have been here for awhile and built good rapport with their regulars. To my surprise I thought the food could use more salt. We thought the eggs and potatoes were pretty bland but hot sauce saved the day.

Lismarie A.

Yelp
I don't think I'll be coming here again. Service was good and the staff were friendly but the food is sub par. It didn't wow me at all. The waffle wasn't toasty and very much on the soft side. The egg had no flavor at all and was so bland. And as you can see in the picture, the bacon was too crispy even for my liking. It fell apart with each bite.

Kenton W.

Yelp
#1, they close at 10 but the kitchen closes at 9. If you come at 9 they'll tell you it closes at 9:30 and then rush you--unless young women come in after you; then they'll ignore you first for 15 minutes THEN rush you. But then after all that rushing, they might not put in your order anyway because after all, the kitchen closes at 9, so it is actually your fault that you've been sitting in a restaurant for 40 minutes and yet, leaving hungry. It's not the wait, or the mistake, or the outdated decor masquerading as "classic", or the fact that the mozzarella sticks are microwaved, or that the French toast ain't have no cinnamon, or that the "ham" was bologna. it's the smug manager who clearly was not interested in making this right. I literally could've just walked out, and I really wish I had since there is ZERO chance I will ever step foot in that place again. We left our drinks half finished and my wife didn't eat anything but her eggs so we paid $53 for $25 worth of food and $0 worth of service. If this is your option, stay home and cook.

David S.

Yelp
I last visited this place like many years ago. We were in the neighbor, and I decided to bring the family here for lunch. The service and staff are great like I remember, and the server constantly check on us to refill our drinks and stuff. However, the food isn't as tasty as I remembered. This place has a huge menu with alot of items. The portions were huge too.

Lacayo D.

Yelp
The food in this place is very expensive and not worth the price. The waitress doesn't even look like a waitress, she didn't understand the way I wanted my eggs cooked. Coffee cups are tiny whereby one swallow and I had to get the waitress back to refill it. Tables were not cleared so I had to search for an available clean table. The toast had very little butter on it and it was barely toasted. Only one jelly was given to me. I had to call for more. When I was done, I got the check and nearly choked when I saw balance. for two eggs, bacon, home fries, two slices of toast, thimble of orange juice and coffee. $14.02. When I can make that at home average cost $4.00 and have ingredients leftover for another time or two. Restaurant value should have only been $9.00 at most. I complained to the matradee all he did was pull out the menu and point at the price... The A--hole that he is.. In the past few visits to this diner maybe there were 4 tables occupied,,,, I wonder why ??? the answer OVERCHARGE !!!!!

Lisa C.

Yelp
There food is horrible they put oil on every thing in pot on French toast to make pancake the cooks don't wear over or hate always hair in food horrible

Maggie L.

Yelp
This diner place isn't as bad as the reviews say. Of course there are things that they can improve but overall I have been there once a while and really think they deserve a better ratings. The goods : Free parking Inexpensive food but big portions Attentive servers Lots of booths To be improved: Spaghetti noodles are always soggy Pastry desserts aren't that fresh But overall I still like this place and will continue to visit in the future.

Shakurr R.

Yelp
Food was very in seasoned and bland Server is super super nice Sorry for the half eaten photo BUT it really didn't taste that great is a basic white boring no season diner Probably won't be back but that's okay :)

Valeria N.

Yelp
Unseasoned home fries that looked like hashbrowns, unseasoned scrambled eggs that looked liked an omelette, not sure what they are trying to do here but not really succeeding. Shame on us for ignoring the low reviews. Our server, Lisa was great though.

Alma R.

Yelp
Food was exactly what we expected. Omelette was well cooked. French toast was great. Service was good despite being packed. It lives up to it's name.

Yelp
I don't get the rating on this place. Lovely classic American diner. This is a treasure and one of the reasons I like having to go to this part of the county for work. The eggs were cooked perfect over easy. Bacon was crispy. Potatoes were exactly as described. Service was fast, helpful, and friendly. It was worth the early morning walk to get here.

Doe M.

Yelp
The food is good and adequate for a local diner My gripe is the manager (Spanish light skin lady with black hair in a bun with glasses) extremely and I mean extremely rude both to customers and I'm not gonna start on how she talks to the other employees she belittles them and talks down on them, while I was there this Sunday she made a waitress cry for the coffee not being ready I've been coming here for years and remember when she was once a waitress now she talks down on them and the owners allow all of this nonsense it's truly disgusting and nasty. Other than that everything is A OK!

Jeff Z.

Yelp
Had a solid breakfast of eggs and Taylor ham. The server was friendly and the food came out fast. The coffee was ok, not great. If I am in the area I would stop in here for food agin. It's a little thing but I like that they give you a couple little muffins with your toast.

Isolina C.

Yelp
We've been looking for a diner in the area to create a family tradition and we found it! This place was great. Lots of tables so the wait was short. Huge menu with something for everyone at very affordable prices. Breakfast was so tasty and satisfying! Excited to make this a weekend family tradition. Also, excited to come back for Happy Hour with $5 cocktails and a full bar!

Esme H.

Yelp
We came in here for some to go food and we just absolutely loved Leslie our server she was so nice and funny everything was so clean and I remember it as a child It just feels so different because I haven't been here since I was a little girl or a teenager I can't remember I've tried to block this county out

Ivette L.

Yelp
Two nights ago we ordered a quesadilla (how can you go wrong with a quesadilla, right?) and nachos. The chips were stale , they used hamburger meat, and the cheese was straight out of a can. The quesadilla had lettuce and tomatoes peppers and onions inside the quesadilla (which I didn't ask for nor does it say on the menu that it come with all of that) and it was terrible. The quesadilla was soggy and not tasty at all. The following day I woke up and was sick to my stomach. I am still recovering! The worst part is that it cost about $36 for the two meals. I only recommend this place for a burger or breakfast. Tried doing the support your local business thing but it went all wrong.

Nakita F.

Yelp
Ordered the short stack and silver dollar with a side of bacon and eggs. The pancakes seemed buttermilk and were very good the bacon was also tasty. The total cost in this pic was $27.30

Sha M.

Yelp
Trash place to eat... Service is horrible. Unprofessional... This place is not cool unless you Just need a meal. Safe meals like burger and fries

Bryant W.

Yelp
Would have gave zero stars if possible . horrible experience , i use to come here regularly , i dont think im coming back , bacon was over cooked . ( deep fried ) Both burgers were burnt . Manager gave us 20% off the bill . i dont think its enough.

Jaime H.

Yelp
Was in New York for 2 weeks on vacation, this was the last place we ate dinner at. By far the worst meal of the trip and we ate the hotel restaurants a couple times. Service was slow, and it wasn't busy. Food was subpar at best. Best thing about the restaurant was the parking lot. And it was empty, that turned out the a "sign" we didn't pay attention too.

Naili O.

Yelp
Would have given zero stars if I could. My omelet was raw in the inside and to say bland would be an understatement. The fresh toast was not cooked properly and was extremely over priced for a side of French toast (2) not a full order it was almost 9 dollars extra to my meal.

Dana D.

Yelp
Waitress were friendly. However, the service took long. The food was dry and overcooked and barely any seasoning. I personally would not go back there.

Vanessa E.

Yelp
This place is awesome, love the old school feel inside & great food! We came here with 2 kids and they ate everything up! And our waitress was the best! Will return!

Ruben M.

Yelp
The owner/manager not only doesn't know how to make a Latte (very weak, overflown, foamy and with chocolate syrup on top) but he also refuses to make a double expresso with hot milk in a regular cup as I asked for in a low volume, no attitude, gentil way. Waitress are the best there, food is diner class. Monday at 8 pm, this guy is just not right for that job.

Christina V.

Yelp
AWFUL. "Lobster bisque" was crab imitation canned jelly soup stuff. Nachos were cheese wiz with half a jar of salsa poured all over it with dumped olives. I couldn't eat it. Pregnant and nothing said salsa on the menu plus it said cheddar. Hubby got "veal" Parm. He's going to be sick by the time we get home. Don't think it was actual veal that he ate. Our waitress has disappeared as I sit here typing this review it's been 20 minutes we've been waiting to leave this place and get McDonald's (how sad is that?) avoid at all costs!!!!

Danielle S.

Yelp
First of all the food here is mediocre at best. The service is absolutely terrible. The bathroom is something where someone should contact the Environmental Protection Agency or at the very least Health Services. what's worse is that they illegally tow your vehicle even when they have an empty lot. The towing company does not follow the state rules and regulations and illegally removes your vehicle without the proper signage being displayed. So if your car is removed you should research the law because none of their signs meet the required standards of the state of New Jersey. It would be fantastic to sit in a nice diner with good food that is reasonably priced but, it's cheaper to just park your car at a meter and go to some of the other places nearby.

Bethany S.

Yelp
I'm not from this area and I was staying in an Airbnb walking distance from this diner. All I got was a small coffee before heading out for my trip back home. The customer service was excellent. Super friendly staff. That's exactly what you want from a local diner! Small coffee was $2 and some change.

Kevin M.

Yelp
5 stars is a homer review but this neighborhood fixture deserves better reviews. Been going here 20 plus years. Sometimes the staff is prickly you might get an eye roll asking for a milkshake they might have never heard of items clearly on the menu. Seriously it's a diner in New Jersey if you don't like it you can go... well you know the rest. They serve everything but it's a diner. Chicken Parm dinner cheeseburger and fries bad coffee you can't go wrong with. Actually the cheeseburgers might be the best in union city... but it's union city. So really though start supporting local business' or everything will taste like Applebee's I don't wanna live in that world.

Ramon B.

Yelp
Classic diner feel, very retro kind of style. The menu had a ton of option,at least 10 pages lol. I wasn't familiar with the area but was happy I found this place. Food was well priced and good. There's enough seating for any amount of people and the restrooms are fairly well kept so.

Mercy C.

Yelp
Pancakes were ok, but felt like we were over charged. Plus a juice more than 4 dollars. We never ordered a steak with eggs.

Jin K.

Yelp
This place is absolute garbage. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. We came here for food during a bit of a rush so I totally understand that there would be a delay. What I don't understand is why it took 15 minutes to get MENUS especially when it wasn't even a full house. The dining area was about half full. When we asked on the status, the waitress who started off with a bad attitude brushed us off saying "5 more minutes" and then we waited another 15 before deciding to just leave and forget about it. This is when the manager started to argue with us, claiming "100 Of you come in at once so what do you expect". He basically blamed us for ordering food that would take extra time, saying we should have been smart and ordered hamburgers. We tried to leave and he threatened to call the cops. CALL THE COPS? Absolutely absurd. Horrible service and zero accountability. They could have just apologized and let us leave but you try to argue and blame us and try and force us to pay for food we didn't receive? Excuse me? Avoid. At. All. Costs.

F S.

Yelp
The Diner is clean and the wait staff are good. However the food quality is pretty bad - this is a picture of my scrambled eggs order... looks more like an over cooked omelette scrambled up.

John N.

Yelp
I came here during lunch time, and the service was pretty quick. I sat there around 1:45pm and was out within a half hour. I had a Caesar wrap which came with a soup and fries. I asked for no bacon, but the bacon was included so that's why I am taking off one star. However, I have to say the bacon gave the wrap some flavor. My bill came out to $13 which is not bad for all the food you get. Overall not a fancy place but could be a good place for the kids or during lunch time. I haven't tried the dinner entrées yet.

Brett B.

Yelp
We've spent 40 mins plus waiting for two empanadas. Not sure why that takes so long when there are only 5 tables with people in here. The waitress was nice but couldn't explain why our order took almost an hour to make. And the table next to us got their food within 10 minutes. This was not worth the time or money.

Jessy M.

Yelp
Ordered a grilled cheese and got a slab of unmelted cheese between two slices of bread. It should be renamed Two Star Diner.

Melissa E.

Yelp
Stopped in on a drive home and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. We didn't really get anything crazy- some tilapia, a grilled cheese, and an omelette. They were all pretty good, nothing incredibly amazing but solid. I'm giving them such a high rating because the service was so friendly and helpful. Every person who helped us was so amicable, it really made us feel at home.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
This was the second time coming here and probably the last. I felt so uncomfortable and unsafe while eating my food. The manager allows people to walk around without a mask and didn't wear his own mask properly as well. One of the people that walked around constantly got up and was breathing heavily each time and clearing his throat everytime he walked by my table. Nothing was said to this man while he was paying for multiple lottery tickets from the manager. When I told the waiter he spoke to the manager about it but the manager did not show any concern. He did not come to me to talk about it. He told the waiter he would talk to that specific customer when I was already done and ready to head out. He never confronted anyone about what happened and didn't seem to fix his own mask. They are not following covid guidelines at all and are putting everyone at risk here. If they can't follow the guidelines then they shouldn't be opened.

Andy V.

Yelp
Yea, I'll pass on this one, even if it's the only diner open on a drunk adventurous night lol. Place deserves zero stars but the waitress that was very attentive and courteous so there's your silver lining. Everything else was downhill. Food was extra greasy and lack any flavors that motivated my hand from lifting the fork for another bite. The actual establishment is dingy and needs a whole lot of TLC. It could be a classic diner spot but they seem not to care for their appearance. Definitely won't see me check in again here
