The Best Breweries, Food, and Drink to Try on the BC Ale Trail | Eater

"Widely regarded as one of the province’s top breweries and named Canadian brewery of the year in 2015, its busy tasting room is bolstered by a kitchen that serves Mexican street-style food for lunch (11:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.) followed by tapas from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily." - Vox Creative

Heyam

Google
Craft beer and Taco Perfect match beer and taco for lunch! The taco are made freshly here and taste very good. If you get 4 tacos, you get $1 off. I will visit again.

Google
We visited last Monday afternoon to try their craft beers and some tacos. Few people were there, so it was very quiet which was nice for us🙂 We were not that hungry so only tried a chicken taco, and it was declicious. We love their IPAs😍 Also grabbed a few of IPA cans to go. Will visit again to try other beers with tacos.

Google
We were here within an hour of landing (from Australia.) Staff were friendly and courteous. I enjoyed a 'Greg' West Coast IPA, of course. A little disappointed with the T-shirts; I am looking for tasteful examples that mention the brewery name.

Google
Always delicious tacos and beer! One of our favourite places to go!!!

Google
The beer was cold and delicious, blown away by how good the food was, stopped in while visiting from the east coast of the states. My sister lives locally and always talks highly about this place. She has brought me a handful of brews back to me when she came to visit me. I'm glad I got to stop in person myself this time. I Would definitely make it a point to stop here if you happen to be In the area.

Google
Lots of parking. Staff are helpful with suggestions to pick your beverages. Seemed like they have a loyal cliental, busy and friendly. Great vibe! There's good variety of beverages and we enjoyed them all - the stout aged in bourbon barrels was my fav and that's not my taste... That's how's good it is. The only disappointment was the food. Flavors are there, but the prices are high compared to what you get. We'll return. Awesome to get near the Fraser River. Don't forget your cameras or paints.

Google
I tried El Diablo Burger, and it was sensational. Paired with any beer, and that's going to be an amazing dinner for you. I really like stouts, but unfortunately, they had none, I ended up getting a german style pilsener, which was pretty good, but I hope next time there're some other options of the dark side.

Tanisha Guindon

Google
The better location. I love the tacos, great atmosphere. Not a good space for larger groups. More of a 2-4 people kind of place. Few seats. Would recommend getting the refried bean tostada 👌🏻

Yelp
Great food and great beer. Excellent find with simple but fresh and tasty Mexican food with home made salsas made fresh daily and something I'm craving right now! Service was great and the both the Porter and the Lemon Haze IPA were probably the two best beers I had during my two week stint in BC. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I'm not much of a beer person but had stopped by this location with some family over the weekend who tried some of the beer they have. They had some non alcoholic options as well and quite a decent food menu too. I tried the southwest kale salad and absolutely loved it! Friendly service as well. Super cute location - clean and beautifully decorated. They had a small indoor dining space as well as some patio tables. This location is in a very industrial area.

Yelp
It had been awhile (thanks, Covid) since I'd been to Four Winds, and I was SO excited to see that they were open when I was visiting the area last week. Luckily, it was right around lunchtime so I was able to snack some of their delicious, house-made tacos too. While, sadly, my beloved Oat Stout wasn't on tap (I don't even know if they make it anymore and forgot to ask!), the Pale Ale I tried went well with the spicy tacos and the warm summer day. What I always loved about Four Winds is still there: the cheerful setting, friendly staff, industrial-meets-hipster vibe, and friendly patrons. Since my last visit (which was probably at least 4 years ago) they've also expanded their indoor seating area and added a large "parking lot patio" for outdoor seating. When in (or even near) Delta, this is a great stop for lunch and a beer. Bonus for their cool swag, too!
google avatar

Yelp
Located in an industrial side of River Road, Delta. There's plenty of parking. The place is small but they have an outdoor area. They have a good selection of brews and will have some for you in any occasion. The food menu changes every now and then but I've always had the tacos from here and they are always delicious! It's not your traditional approach, it's more like a fusion. You won't be disappointed . The service is great and the hosts are friendly.

Yelp
This place is all positive. Great food and great beer. I came here with two other friends, B and S. B said the beer here are exceptional. I got the burger here and omg. It was super tasty. It was somewhat over priced but I really liked it. I had mine with cheese. The cheese is not just a slab of cheese thrown in the burger. But they actually grill the cheese with the beef making it super delicious. The burger came with chips and salsa. Everything was made inhouse. The chips were amazing. Salsa was delicious. B said his chorizo burger was a bomb. They have patio seats outside and there are a few seats indoor as well. We will definitely come back next time.

Yelp
Great beer, food and service. Family friendly and clean. Would definitely eat here again if in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer and food. Folks there are super friendly. Even if you do not drink beer, the staple tacos are worth visiting for. That said, the rotating other items on the menu are always fresh and delicious and would even be enjoyed by foody snobs! Their beers are consistently top notch. Definitely a place worth visiting, even if it is a bit of a drive from wherever you are .
google avatar

Ryan W.

Yelp
Great beer and small plates. tacos were delicious! The variety of flavours and diversity of tastes is well thought out and complimentary.
google avatar

Yelp
When the weather is nice this is a great spot. Gotta sit outside! Good set of beer choices.

Yelp
Decent but pricey craft beer place in the Delta area. This brewery is located somewhat in the middle of nowhere, so for me it was a bit of a trip out. Parking is plentiful in the industrial park lot. Be sure not to park in the Minuteman (adjacent business) spots. There are signs all over warning about this. The place is somewhat modern and hipster. Lots of vintage looking wood paneling. Looks surprisingly similar to Steel & Oak in New Westminster. Not sure why there's a humidity problem, but the entire place was stuffy and fogged up when I was there. Hopefully they fix this. Staff were friendly and helpful. As of the time of writing, they had 8 brews. Easy to clean out the place with 2 flights. Pricing is noticeably higher than the local competition. In this respect, this brewery again reminds me of Steel & Oak, and not in a good way. Knock one star off. To be honest, nothing about the beers really stuck out. Looks like they're going the hoppy route overall. Worth checking out if one is in the area, but not worth the trip out. If I were in the area I would suggest Fuggles & Warlock (Richmond) instead).

Yelp
In my hometown of Ladner! They do a fine job brewing quite a few different craft beers, and I'm glad to see they appear to be very successful. They're opening a brand new restaurant pub at Southlands in Tsawwassen next year... Hey Four Winds owners...... Are you listening? Please have live music every single weekend... I'll be there every weekend if you book jazz and blues and maybe bluegrass. And maybe zydeco. Are you listening? I hope so!

Yelp
Okay. I'm blaming this review to the pandemic I looked the menu and Pictures. I was so excited ( last night and before I go). Until they cannot serve my food only these 2 pages of their menu I was disappointed. Honestly. Beers were fine I like the oat porter the best from the rest.
google avatar

Tara C.

Yelp
There's never food left when I go, but the beer and ambience make up for it. Craft brew tucked into a strip mall with limited menu (usually featuring tacos) with seating indoors and outdoors. Gets busy at Friday at 4pm. So weird, amirite?

Yelp
I'm sure you've heard of and had Four Winds Brewing Co.'s famous, award winning nectarous dry hopped sour beer. They're located in an off the beaten path, random Delta plaza that also houses a Subway. We've been twice and both times it's been to a packed house. The tap room is bright, airy and roomy (they've expanded so there's even more seating). There's about a dozen seats at the U-shaped bar. Service is friendly; go up to the bar to order your drinks and food. There's 12 beers on tap along with a few ciders (Left Field, Nomad and Dominion Cider) and wine (Arrowleaf) options. The food menu consists of tacos and tapas. A couple beside us ordered several tapas dishes; all looked and smelled great. Their beer fridge has a mix of cans, bottles and packs. A couple speciality bottles looked intriguing (Pomona and Bramble) but wish you could sample these beforehand. Those were both $15.00 each. The merchandise is minimalist but carefully crafted; hats, growlers, beer openers, glassware and shirts. Trip #1 We dropped in on a Thursday afternoon (around 2:00pm). - Flight ($6.00 for 4) - operis (Brett saison), la maison (wild saison), fog zombie (hazy double IPA) and pluum (blended plum sour). Interestingly, the fog zombie was a collaboration with Bellwoods Brewery. All the beers were decent but we didn't love the plum beer as much as we'd anticipated. - Cachete ($4.25) - confit beef cheeks served with salsa roja, onion and cilantro. Beef cheeks were tender and flavourful. The salsa roja had a sharp unexpected heat to it. - Vélo ($14.00 for 6) - they were out of this on their beer taps so we bought a box of cans for home. Nothing particularly memorable. Trip #2 We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 4:00pm). - Flight ($6.00 for 4) - huftgold (German style pilsner), nectarous (dry hopped sour), triplicity (Belgian tripel) and mild (dark mild). The huftgold tasted like every other German beer we've had; light in flavour but easy to drink. Nectarious is still our favourite beer of Four Wind's; tart, crisp and slightly sour. Triplicity was better than expected; smooth, lightly malty flavour. Mild tasted like a watered down coffee stout. - Baba ganoush tostada ($4.25) - toasted pine nut, cottage cheese, chive, sour cream and paprika. Tostada is crunchy. Flavours combine harmoniously together for a couple of tasty bites. Who would have thought baba ganoush would work? - Lamb leg ($4.25) - flour tortilla, chimichurri aioli, onion, radish and cilantro. Lamb was tender and juicy (literally juice flowed out upon first bite). Normally, we prefer corn tortillas over flour but this worked well with the lamb. Tortilla was lightly toasted. If you're in the 'hood, go check FWB out. Solid tacos and cheapest flight we've come across.

Yelp
Drove past this place hundreds of times. Stopped for tacos and beer, will definitely be back. Great tacos, shrimp skewers were awesome, service was perfect.
google avatar

Kay F.

Yelp
Great outdoors seating area. No tasting flights at this time due to covid but did buy a case of 4 of the Nectarious and I definitely have to say it's one of my all time favourite sours.

Yelp
Great beer and great tacos. Honestly, what more could you need? I'm thankful that this brewery is a short distance from my house, since most of the best breweries are in the Vancouver core. Sometimes a girl just needs a beer and taco fix, and I'm happy that I can easily get to Four Winds to satisfy my craving. I've tried all their tacos now and all of them are delicious. I can't really pick a favourite because honestly, they're all good. But if I really had to, I'd say the fried plantain taco and the duck and potato taco are my top two. I've also tried a few different sandwiches - their tapas menu is always changing, so I've never had the same thing twice. As far as beer goes, I'm a huge fan of IPAs, so their Wild IPA is by far my favourite. Their Belgian White is also great, but defintiely more hoppier than the Wild. I've also tried their dry hopped sour, which was quite good. Small space, but they're able to utilize the space they do have and create lots of seating at the bar and along the windows. Friendly staff who have a great beer IQ and give great recommendations. The crowd out here is a bit different than your typical Vancouverite beer snobs - it's a bit of an older, industrial worker crowd, which is a bit refreshing. Love coming out here and will keep coming back for more IPAs and tacos.

Yelp
Well crafted beer and really good tacos, it's has a really nice vibe and just a fun place to go.

Yelp
Love this place! The beer is awesome, the tapas are so delicious & the staff are so friendly! The ambience is great inside and they have a large tent with beautiful lights and heaters outside. Must try if you love beer.
google avatar

Gabrielle N.

Yelp
Best beer around hands down. It's rare to find a brewery where you have trouble deciding if you like the beer or the food best. The of tacos and tapas menu has some staples but is always changing. I usually come hoping the last meal I had is available but when it's not I'm equally as impressed with the next! I can't wait for them to reopen fully again after this pandemic is behind us. The outside patio to enjoy your take out and the efforts made to offer pick up and delivery have been very much appreciated but just not the same as the ambiance offered inside. I'm so glad to see our local brewery find such success and I always make sure to buy the beer and spread the love when I'm out of town and find one of their brews on tap. Well done team!

Yelp
Had such a fabulous experience at Four Winds. They have a wide selection of beer on tap to choose from. All the beer are amazing and has so much flavour to them! My favourites were the Saison. It has a fruity floral scent in the beer that makes you crave for more! For those who like a light sourness in your beer you would love Nectarous as well! It's light yet still has a full body and flavour! We ended up buying a few bottles of both take home too! Besides the beer they manage to make outstanding tacos too! We tried the pork belly and pork cheek! Both were delicious and had a generous portion of meat in each taco. We ended up ordering a second order of the pork belly taco! Hope I can see their beer appearing at more restaurants and liquor store in the future for the convenience!

Yelp
Tacos and prize winning (and I mean MANY awards) beer? Count me in. Loved the atmosphere to start. Awesome music, current and trendy vibe, young but knowledgeable crowd, generally prompt and not pushy service. She let me taste multiple beers before deciding on one- then two. I can't rave enough about Nectarous, a fruity sour without any cloying sweetness. Delicious oat porter too- not too strong but definitely full of coffee. We will return and make this a stop on the way to Vancouver! Their merchandise was awesome, and made me want to purchase unnecessary glassware and hats.
google avatar

Victor L.

Yelp
love the beer these guys produce, food is always on point. Find myself here quite often for lunch. Definitely worth the drive. The staff is great, bustling atmosphere and quality food and beer. Come early as this place gets packed at lunch often overflowing outside
google avatar

Charles F.

Yelp
I was a bit underestimated about the menu at first. I thought the food would be so-so, but actually the food was great! Beer is great and affordable. Would be coming back and recommending to everyone.
google avatar

Bob P.

Yelp
Beer great samples to into you to what you may like Mates to a great kitchen for unbelievable appetizers It is small and very busy for lunch and at 5 I will definitely return
google avatar

Greg N.

Yelp
Great beer served by wonderful staff in a clean and friendly environment with some of the best food in Delta.
google avatar

Lara O.

Yelp
Finally made it out here, its been on my to-do for years. So glad I visited just after they won many awards at the canada craft beer awards. The Nectarous was amazing, I see why it won. Picked up quite a few bottles of the pomona sour. A nice tasting room, very friendly people working here and a nice casual chatty vibe for the room.

Yelp
Four Winds Brewing Co.'s tasting room is now offering fresh tacos made in-house in addition to their refreshing lineup of craft ales. Over a couple visits, I ordered a mix of the al pastor (roasted pork with pineapple), polla asado (grilled chicken with avocado and slaw), duck confit special (with kale slaw and crispy onions), refried beans (with queso fresco, picolo, and avocado) and calamares crujientes special (crispy squid with chipotle, romesco, and gremalata) paired with a crisp Buckthorn hoppy brown ale (and later a smooth Elementary lager). The calamares was particularly on point and tastily refreshing. Four Winds offers a few appetizing options and daily specials. These were for the most part were quite crisp and flavourful with a fresh tasting appeal similar to those from La Taqueria. I recommend trying out the specials for the more adventurous eater.

Yelp
What a hit! This place is really one of a kind. I've been meaning to come here for a long time and finally took the trip on Friday! And I'm so glad we did! The beer selection is so good! My favorite was Le Maison. The tacos are unreal! I had the roasted cauliflower and mushroom one and it was seriously some of the best tacos I've had. The only sad thing for me was the fact that they didn't have there lounge license so we were only served 1 beer. That sucks for people coming from Burnaby (which we did).
google avatar

Ally S.

Yelp
I already loved their beer, but had never been there on time to get food. Boy was this a great decision to eat here. I got the bean dish... omg guys! It was SO good. The egg on top was cooked to perfection, and the beans still had a good crunch! Just eat here peoples.
google avatar

Yvonne E.

Yelp
A staple in the #local craft brew world. Family owned & operated. Yummy brews, good tacos, a piano, patio, cool T's and hats! Off the beaten path (which makes it hipper).
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
On June 1st 2013 the brand new Four Winds Brewing Company opened its doors to the public. Located in South Delta it is a prime location for people that also live in Richmond and Tsawwassen. On opening they had 6 draft beer and one cask beer for sampling. The staple beers were a Pale Ale, India Pale Ale and Saison. The seasonal beers were Smoked Porter, Wit Bier and a Wild Flower Saison and the cask was an IPA with Douglas Fir. Currently the only way to purchase their beer is at the brewery using Growlers (1.89L) bottle and a Boston Round or Mini Growler (1L). Bombers will be available in the near future (Rumor was July). Current prices are $11.5 for a growler fill, $5 for a glass or beer or $5 for a flight of 4 beer. A new Growler bottle is $5 and they will fill anyone's growlers not just their own. From what I have tried so far I can tell this will be a great new addition to our local brewing landscape. I look forward to coming back and talking with the Brewmaster and the staff at the brewery as it was a mad house for the opening! Keep up the good work guys. Do yourself a favour and take a drive, taxi or bus to the brewery and enjoy their wonderful beer! (Were is the Blackberry 10 app yelp? Elite Member Getting Impatient!)

Yelp
We love supporting locals. Drink and eat from local brewers on these days. BEERLEAVE. Spectacular place.

Yelp
Four Winds brewery is awesome! We went to many breweries on our trip up to BC, Four Winds was our first stop and remained our favorite through the whole trip. It was small, cozy and perfect. The staff is super friendly and offered suggestions on which other breweries to visit. Love their color coded flights, makes everything super easy to identify. All the beer was EXCELLENT! My favorite was the Pale Ale, which is never anywhere near my favorite style but this one is sooooo good! They also have snacks from local purveyors, the sausages from Altmaeker shouldn't be missed, give em a try! They've also got some sweet merchandise, I picked up a cozy sweater.
google avatar

K M.

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere, staff and snacks. Food is pricy for the portions, but you're there to have BEER anyway so no need to fill up on edibles. Their selection is vast and very well prepared. I find their lagers to be too hoppy, but if you like hops and strong IPAs, this is the place to be!
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Bonus points for ingenious colour coded magnets for their paddles. On my never ending Poke-beer quest of BC craft beer we headed to a warehouse district in Delta to drink Four Winds. As you need a car to get here I was happy it wasn't packed to the nine like most Vancouver breweries. I like the layout of the tasting room. More like a regular square bar with the growler stations and taps in the middle. Staff were two cool dudes. As noted, the on tap menu has color coded squares which match with magnets on your 4-beer tasting paddle. Staff pointed out some people get a little colour blind (or tipsy) differentiating colours 1 and 2 in my photo. My favourites were the pale ale and Saison. Their specialty is European beers and are constantly tinkering with new releases. Worth the drive.
google avatar

Eryn P.

Yelp
So the beer is obviously off the charts. we all know that. Four Winds has not put out a single beer that I have not loved. The Pequeno Cabo, their Berlinerweisse, Nectaarous, Juxtapose...I mean, shit son. They make damn good beer. But what I didn't realize is how freaking incredible their tacos are. We are talking La Taqueria meets Tacofino. An air of authentic mexican with an incredilbly finessed gourmet touch. The perfect flavour combinations, texture combinations (ahem - chicharron!!) and heat combinations. Tacos are bomb. Beer is bomb. Tasting room is bomb (the custom wallpaper!!!). Worth a trip to Delta.

Dar D.

Yelp
This is a great little gem where you'd least expect it. A welcoming and friendly team running things, clean and simple premises with indoor and outdoor seating (covered with heaters this time of year), a broad selection of tasty craft beer and cider, and most of all, delicious food. For drinks we had a pilsner (fruity and refreshing, though slightly too fizzy for us) and an oat porter (dark, rich and smooth). We shared refried bean tostadas (5 stars - sooo delish!), the pork tacos (very, very good) and the veggie burger with cheese (also very, very good). We think three tacos equals a good sized entree. We bought a 4pack of the porter for home and will definitely go back for more good casual eats, drinks and atmosphere.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
5 Stars for the location and 2.5 stars for the beer selection. No dark beers on tap for the summer, which is a bomb for me. Most won't care though. Innovative beers but just not my style. Cute marine decor and they have a taco window so... yeah.
google avatar

Twogypsy S.

Yelp
Excellent empanadas!! Sour Beer fabulous! Staff friendly and helped educate us. Can't wait to go back to try their pear cider and tacos!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Fantastic little brewery in the Tilbury area. Great food and great beer selection. Highly recommend, the staff the food and the beer could not be any better. This little gem is worth making your way to and experiencing mark my words!
google avatar

Bronwyn G.

Yelp
A fantastic selection of beers to taste and purchase. Also, there's a great taco-maker-in-residence that makes the most magical mushroom taco's. They're probably the tastiest thing you can buy in a 10km radius. ;P
google avatar

Gagan D.

Yelp
What's not to like? Beer? Check. Tacos? Check. Also the service here, unlike a lot of places/breweries in Vancouver, is fantastic. Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable! If you get April as your beer person, you're set!!
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
I can't believe it's taken me this long to find a ride to this brewery! But boy am I glad I did. I had tasted a lot of their beers at different bars and beer festivals but somehow, their tasting room still managed to blow me away. It was very busy and it would have been nice to have a few extra high tables or tables you can gather groups around but we managed to snag some chairs. It is otherwise a very cool space with some antique-y and old school decor - I had the same speakers growing up and some of those records! Their design and merch quality is outstanding- I bought the camping mug which I am excited to bring on hiking trips, which means I need to bring along some good beer! We also bought one of their well designed tees. There wasn't a single beer that I didn't enjoy but the ones that really stood out for me were the Brett IPA with its citrusy hops - probably my favourite IPA in the lower mainland - their Berliner sour and their Saison. The pineapple saison was excellent too. So who wants to drive me back to this place? I promise I'll buy you a beer!
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
Basically a five star considering that there's nothing else similar within 15 km. It's in the middle of nowhere but the beer is great. They have about 4 regular beers that are always available and about 7-8 experimental beers. I had 3 saisons and a tripel for my first flight of tasters. They had like 3 or 4 different IPA's as well. The pilsner was excellent. Only con is that it's too small and the staff are overwhelmed. Also, it closes relatively early at 7pm on most nights. With the traffic, basically the only time I could go would be on Saturdays.
google avatar

Clayton V.

Yelp
What an absolute delight in the Delta. It's a bit of a trek out, but so worth it. Four Winds has an amazing ambiance. A great interior that screams hipster brewery, and that works for me. The staff, super knowledgeable, and super into the product. To the beer, because, this is why one visits a brewery: Superb. Drink all the things. They present tasters on a clever little palette, using colored magnets so you can keep referencing the pours. This was something I hadn't seen before, and a really novel way of presenting that. I can't say I had anything I didn't like, with Juxtapose being far and wide the run away hit. Brettanomyces? IPA? Yes Please! I'll be back. Often. If I had one complaint: I couldn't take a growler of Juxtapose home with me.
google avatar

Jeff J.

Yelp
Four Winds is our 'must-stop' when visiting breweries over the border. I can honestly say I've never had a bad beer here, amongst the myriad styles that they offer. The Nectarous dry-hopped sour is not always available, but is worth a trip if they have it. I'm enjoying one (immensely) today. My wife, who loves the darker beers, can't get enough of the Four Winds Oat Porter. And once you get to know Sean at the bar, he will remember your name every time you drop by.

Yelp
Where have you been all my life!! I wish I took more pictures. I was so intrigued and busy having a grand ol time I forgot to take pictures. Especially of the lunch taco menu( finishes at 330pm), after lunch till about 630pm I believe was enchiladas Taco menus also changes daily, yes thats right DAILY so you could eat lunch here everyday and never have to eat the same thing, which I mean wouldn't be bad at all cause again yummm lol I had three of the 4 flavors of tacos. They were so delicious and fancy I cant even remember the names and all the ingredients. My favorite was definitely the squash taco of some sort ( I am totally butchering this explanation so i will stop here) As for the beers, amazing prices for award winning flavors. I liked the sour weisse best and I'm not even a huge fan of beeer. But this is next level on tap. Bring your growler if you have to save from buying on cause you will definitely want to take some home. The staff!!!! So friendly, so funny, just so much awesome in one place!!! will definitely be back on my next trip to Van. BTW- They are doing some renovations this month and bought a food truck to keep those tacos coming. How amazing is that

Just had tacos here, adorable spot - tasty tacos & a great price! Allows kids which is a nice! Suggestion of more room for seating & a fried-fish taco option and this place would be a regular spot !! Keep up the fine work :)
