Fowl Play Hot Chicken

We had a great first-time visit and it will not be our last. Great turnip greens, creamy Mac & cheese, and sweet potato casserole! Very good baked beans, too. If you order a Smashburger and steak fries, you had better be hungry. “First base” hot sauce is plenty spicy on both chicken and fish. Friendly folks, good food, and accessible location. Wonderful local diner experience.

Food is amazing! Can be very spicy so order with caution. I got the 2nd base which says medium and it’s definitely spicy perfect on the chicken tenders. Baked beans are the best I’ve ever had. Turnip greens had great flavor as well. Overall great food!

Food was amazing! I ate the cinnamon & honey tenders w/ no heat and sweet potato and fried okra as the sides. My wife ate the deluxe burger and fries and spaghetti. Very nice employees! Very good portions as well. They even brought out some fish for us to try which was really good!

Tried Foul Play Hot Chicken in Nashville and it definitely lived up to the hype. The mild heat level was perfect — flavorful with just the right kick. I grabbed the leg quarter meal, and both sides were fire: the baked beans were sweet and smoky, and the mac was creamy and on point. And the strawberry lemonade? Bussing.

My husband and I were in the Gallatin area for a commercial filming and decided to eat local before leaving the area. We Googled and found this gem and decided to give it a try. I absolutely love Nashville Hot Chicken and this place didn't disappoint at all! The owner Grace was so hospitable and catered to our needs. I highly recommend this place and we'll definitely be back when we're in the area.

Im not sure if they get super busy but yall need to have a line out the door for this food!! And it’s right here in town! It was really really good gave very southern soul food vibe. Their koolaid is super super good as well. The sweet potatoes were a little too sweet but that’s okay! I enjoyed everything and the lady that took me and my friends order was really really nice and gave her opinions on things

The food was excellent! I had to take a picture before the plate was empty. This was worth a 30 min drive from Downtown. We will definitely return during the next visit. By the way, I ordered food to go. Just to have some for later.

I was here on business for a couple of days and a client recommended this restaurant. I ordered the breast quarter and double patty smash burger. They were both delicious! Another thing, the homemade fries are really unique! Absolutely delicious crescent shaped, battered,onion-flavored, with a light and crispy exterior yet very moist inside!Highly recommend this place if you’re ever in Gallatin!

Great place for hot chicken in Gallatin! I found this place by mistake and I'm glade I did!!! The service was great, and the food came out as expected with a cook to order place. I didn't get the "sign a waiver" chicken because I've never been a fan of that... but I got the next hottest down. (3rd base) I'll say that it's hotter or as hot as most of the other good places around Nashville's hottest chicken. "Steeling 3rd base" is great to balance flavor and heat to me. They only have kool-ade and bottled drinks. But they have fair prices. I'll be back for sure!!! I don't know why, but several of these hot chicken style places don't serve real brewed sweet tea. Just FYI, actual brewed tea would put your place over the edge!

I found this place on Yelp, and it's a very unassuming little spot, but worth the trip! There is minimal seating inside and not much decor, the window to order is also tiny. I recommend calling ahead and ordering to go. However, the food is excellent! I ordered the fowl play basket with the 1st base sauce. The fries were cooked to perfection and the chicken tenders were really good! The sauce heat was perfect and they put the tenders on bread which soaks up the sauce and adds to a nice extra snack! I will definitely be back to try some other options, but the chicken tenders are awesome!

Perfect place for a classic Nashville fried chicken sandwich. This is a no frills restaurant where you get good food and a clean table. We got a friend chicken sandwich, fried fish filet sandwich, a side of Mac n cheese, and a side of Cole slaw. My only complaint is the fish filet was HUGE and I could not eat all of it. I also would love if they one day included a vegan chicken sandwich!

this is hands down the best hot chicken I have ever had. I'm writing this two tenders down and my mouth is pulsing from second spice level. My stomach hurts the portions are so giving I'm having a hard time finishing my plate. . Best part is how crunchy the chicken is though. Didn't mean to find this place but now I'm never going to stop thinking about it. Thanks.

Amazing chicken !!! I travel the country for work and I would absolutely put these chicken wings in the Top 3 best wings in the country !!! Great southern hospitality from the staff / owner as well. The fried fish is also a giant game changer. Highly recommend this establishment.

I went to Fowl Play for the first time a couple days ago. IMHO it's the real deal. Amazing chicken. The breading is perfect, fried and spiced just right. I tried Approaching 3rd base, 3rd base and Home Run! Wow, be careful with that last one. For sides I had fried okra and baked beans. Loved both of them. The beans had a nice smoky flavor and had a little meat mixed in. Darn good! I sure hope this place will be around for a while. Try it, you'll like it. But be careful with #4. It will heat you up.

I placed my order online. I got a call back to confirm one of the sides. That was good customer service right there. I get o er to the restaurant and the place is small, the lot is full. People are chowing down. Good sign. I go up to check on my order. The girl was super sweet and said it will be a few more minutes. She was just pleasant and sweet. Got my food. It was served up piping hot. I got home it was still hot. 2nd base fish platter had good kick. Rounding 3rd was good and hot. Fried okra was great. I highly recommend the sidewinder fries. We willbe back for more. Go get some! Now!

I'd like to preface that the food is delicious. However, I ordered online prior to coming coz I know it takes awhile to fry chicken. but 40 mins later and i'm still waiting. No food is worth waiting this long, unless my grandma comes back from the dead to cook me my favorite dish of hers. I know I'll still come back, coz I do like their food and they're the only place near me that serves hot chicken. If you know of any other place, definitely dm me since I know I haven't been everywhere. Bottom line, if you want good hot chicken, I do recommend trying Fowl Play, but make sure you order an hour ahead of time to make your experience more pleasant.

I will start by saying this place is a hidden gem. Very quaint, no dinnerware, small place. But the food!! I ordered 10pc wings, Mac and cheese, fried okra and baked beans. The wings are dry hot wings and if you like heat, they bring it! The wings were some of the best I've ever had. The sides were fantastic as well. Each order takes a while to get but as soon as you get it you know why! Everything is piping hot and delicious. I can guarantee you when I'm back in the area I'll be going back. If you don't mind the wait, it's worth it. If you don't like to wait, you can order ahead. Amazing MUST TRY restaurant

Simple building with simple dinning room, but the chicken tenders, coleslaw and fried okra were top shelf. Other meals we saw coming out looked great. We need a once like this in Ooltewah!

I know all the stories, I've been to all of them- Prince's, Bolton's, all the way to the newer ones like Party Fowl. I like them all, the reviews are legit. But believe me when I tell you this is the best of them all. I would be willing to say it's the best fried chicken in all of Nashville. The sides I had, (You can't see the cole slaw and potato salad) were OUTSTANDING and all homemade. I will also say I've never had a better burger, anywhere. I can't recommend this place enough, but BE CAREFUL when ordering spice level. When it says hot, they are not lying! Be conservative because their final 2 levels are BLAZING! Go see these kind folks and you'll see what I mean.

Update: Went there today and got the breast quarter at a heat level "3rd Base", their second to hottest heat level, Cole Slaw and sidewinder Steak Fries. My daughter Allie brought me there for Fathers Day and she got the tenders meal at a "1st Base" heat level with the same fries and Mac and Cheese. The owner brought the food out and brought some small samples of baked beans for us and a small sample of the Mac and cheese. The first bite brought tears to my eyes. Their Hot is a bit hotter than Hatti B's Damn Hot, so glad I did not get their hottest level. The chicken was cooked perfectly, crispy and crunchy on the outside, still juicy on the inside. All the sides were top notch and were all homemade. Service was great. Took about 15 mins for our order, but that's ok, they had a few door dash orders before us. The restaurant was clean and had an overall welcoming feel. The owner was super nice and polite. I will be returning soon and I recommend you guys all give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Chicken leg quarters mild was amazing! Been twice in a month. The chef that reviewed this place as a "dive" with rude customer service was WRONG! Cute little family place with very nice service!

The chicken sandwich with the slaw will knock your socks off! If you like a hearty sandwich with sweet slaw this is for you. Get your combo of sweet and salty with the side winders fries! Will be back!!

Went to try the hot chicken.... Amazing! Hands down better than other Tennessee competitors! The chicken was crispy and juicy, and the spice didn't disappoint. We ordered a couple sides and the staff brought out samples of the sides we did not order. All I can say is the down home cookin' was clearly made with southern love. From the turnip greens, spaghetti, Mac n cheese, baked beans, okra, Kentucky bourbon wings, to the potato salad.... Mmmm...mmmm! Lastly, the staff made us feel like we were at home, in Mama's kitchen. Nothing fancy but pure perfection. We will be long time customers. Fowl Play is doin' it right!

Very spicy, be sure to scale down your heat selection. It's hot but very flavorful. To save time , call in your order. They cook to order. So your food is always hot and fresh.

Got the 2nd base breast wing combo plate. Chicken had a good kick, greens were perfect! Fried okra was very good!

Absolutely love Fowl Play. Wife and I are very picky when it comes to Hot Chicken. We've been to over a dozen spots in Nashville Metro area, and after discovering FP, this is our new #1! We've been back 10x now, also bringing family & coworkers. Staff is always so friendly & welcoming! Hot Chicken and Quarters are always spot on, flavor always consistent! I have never had a dry piece of chicken here, always moist and amazing, great levels of heat the steak fries are to die for!! Great Mac, and the chess pie squares, wow! Every thing is cooked fresh, so expect a wait to get your food, I order ahead online. Great Food, Great People, keeps us coming back!!! Thanks Fowl Play!!!

Air the place out to rid the eating area of strong paint fumes. Chicken was good but way overcooked. Macaroni and cheese was excellent as were the baked beans.

Fabulous fish filet sandwich. I had mild sauce which light me up a bit, but I'm a light weight. Will definitely have again. Clean store & quick courteous service.

This is the best hot chicken place I have ever been!(I've been to a lot of them) Even the sides are top tier. The service was excellent, and the owner brought out samples of the baked beans and potato salad when we said this was our first time eating here. The tables were clean and comfortable, I was just surprised there wasn't a line out the door!

We were visiting family and decided to give this place a shot to avoid driving into Nashville. We placed our order on a kiosk in the lobby. Everything was fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed the cinnamon honey chicken flavor with heat level between 2 and 3. It was the perfect heat. The friendly owner introduced herself after delivering food to our table. She was very welcoming and kind. There are two TVs for those who wanna watch sports, but seating is limited. If you're looking for a laidback bite to eat, give it a shot. Family who lives close by says they've found a new place for takeout. We plan to order again ourselves. Highly recommend this small business!

Best fried chicken! My boyfriend showed me this place and I fell in love. It's seasoned perfectly and amazingly spicy, plus all the sides are perfect. Staff are sweet and always give good portions with fresh food. I have tried the tender meal(1st and stealing 3rd, both delicious but I'm weak and will stick with first lol) with sweet potato's(heavenly) and potato casserole. It's all amazing, definitely come and try the food!

This place is Legit! Great food great people. Their Smash Burgers are delicious! Their fries are not your typical fries but they are SO Good! If you're in the Gallatin area 10/10 must try.

We are on the search for the best hot chicken in Tennessee. This is a place I would not go again. Nice people but hot chicken flavor not good, not choice pieces of meat, flavoring lackluster. Steak fries one bite and went in trash. My girls taco bell was better eats. Expensive, not worth it. Sorry, I really hoped it was a winner based on some of these reviews, but try for yourself. I warned you.

The Mac and cheese was the best I have EVER HAD!! Greens, on point!! Chicken and bread, perfecto!!! And that homemade ranch, amazing! Fowl Play will not disappoint!! I cannot wait to come back!

Least favorite place for Hot Chicken in Tennessee. Good comfort food, but was not up to par with the others. No comparison to princes heat and flavor. Chicken itself was okay. Not very hot as they claimed it to be.

I had burger and fish. Both were good. I was not disappointed. There was a little bit of wait time, but it seems like this is a very popular place to eat.

Cooked to order. You can tell it's not been sitting in a warmer forever. Love the Mac and BBQ beans and the turnip greens. Smash burger is good but the chicken is more what I need.

As hot as you want it to be. The tenders are my favorite as well as heat level "sliding into third". I tried third once. I was starting to sweat when my diaphragm started spasming and suddenly there wasn't enough cheese in the house. If you want heat level four they say they make you sign a waiver. The fries, meaty baked beans and the Cole slaw are all great.

Bravo to the Owner Grace! I just moved to TN and had never heard of hot chicken. My daughter and I just finished our lunch from there. I ordered a 2nd base chicken tender basket with mac and cheese and turnip greens. My 23 year old old daughter had a 1st base Chicken Deluxe sandwich. I like spicy food so pay attention... level two, first bite... awesome . I gave my daughter a bite and by the time she was up running for a glass of water, that is the time my upper lip began to sweat! So if you think you like spicy food, err on the side of caution. Even the 1st base chicken had a little kick. For the kiddos, I suggest no spice at all. Having said all of this, not only were the sides great tasting, that chicken was the best I've ever had, very juicy and flavorful! Fortunately I only live about a mile from this place!! Grace, I assume you sell milk?! LOL Thanks for the great fresh food.. you Rock!!

Visited Fowl Play for the first time tonight. First of all, the place is very clean and inviting when you walk in, and friendly service when you walk to the window to order. I had the 3 piece chicken tender basket with the first base (mild) spice. My husband had the half bird with first base spice as well. Spice was just enough heat, and the chicken was tender and juicy, and not greasy at all (like some other places). The fries were also cooked to perfection and delicious, and my husband also had the coleslaw which he loved, and he is picky about his coleslaw! Please visit this local gem. No need to go to Nashville for hot chicken! Next time, we want to try the smash burgers!

Went in for first time today for lunch and ordered some medium hot tenders with coleslaw and turnip greens. Grace, the owner was very polite and the place was very clean. I got my food to go and couldn't wait to try it. I was totally impressed with everything I ate and will definitely be going back. I was actually so pleasantly surprised that I called her back and let her know how much I enjoyed it!

This chicken is fantastic. I will never go to another hot chicken place. Hands down the best tasting chicken around.

Ordered 1st base chicken breast with Mac and cheese and turnip greens. Also 2 nd base wings. 1st base was a little spicy and 2nd base was very spicy. Also had a smash burger with fries. All the food was really good! Will definitely go again!

You don't have to drive all the way to downtown Nashville for good hot chicken. As a Nashville native, Fowl Play has my vote for the best hot chicken in town. The chicken, sides, & service are all A++.

Great hot chicken. I got 2nd base tenders and it was hot enough that you know it's there but not so hot your mouth continues to burn. Mac and cheese yummy, unique baked beans with hamburger mixed in ( different but very good) My wife got potato salad and didn't care for it, has southwest style mayo. Again it wasn't bad just not to her taste. Chicken was tender and juicy, place was very clean and the price was very fair. Would highly recommend.

We found this place on Sunday afternoon and it was amazing. I got the hot chicken and my husband got the smash burger. I highly recommend both. I got 2 sides with the chicken, waffle and sweet potato. Both were delicious. We will be back.
