Yelp
FOX HILL RESTAURANT ... I finally got a chance to try Fox Hill tonight, in Wichita Falls.
My first impression, WOW what a beautiful place, and this was in the dark of night. I cannot wait to see this Farm-to-Table location in daylight after the farm fully grows in this spring, and everything greens up.
Owner, John Hirschi, has done very well in creating this new restaurant in Wichita Falls. The location off Kemp Blvd, near Seymour Hwy, is beautiful. I have always loved this historic house, and very pleased to see it repurposed as this unique restaurant.
At first glance, Chef Thomas Nixon from Oregon, has created a delicious menu. Well balanced dishes, full of wonderful blends of farm-to-table freshness.
I started off with an appetizer and soup du jour. The Brie & Beef Bruschetta on baguette toast was delicious, along with the tasty Classic Beef Stew. The meats and vegetables for the meals are locally raised.
Next was the Smoked Texas Quail. This is the first time I've had fine dining Quail, and it was perfect! It comes to the table under a smoke filled glass dome, then revealed by the server with a little swirl of the dome releasing the smokey aroma. Stuffed with pork sausage and served over a bed of herbed farro, blended with roasted parsnip, butternut squash, forrest mushrooms, and a demi glaze. A real treat on the tastebuds.
Now for the Pistachio Crusted Lamb! The menu description had me drooling for this one. I've only seen and read about Harissa Potatoes, and now finally getting to experience them. The lamb is served over a mountain of vegetables, including the harissa potatoes, curried cauliflower, grilled zucchini, sauce vierge, and grilled seasonal garden vegetables. The lamb was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The harissa potatoes met every expectation I had for them, very delicious. The overall plate was another complete treat for these happy tastebuds.
Closed it off with a Cookie & Ice Cream dessert. Very tasty end to a perfect meal!
Fox Hill is a wonderful treat, and a real dining delight for Wichita Falls. I foresee this establishment doing very well in the long run. Be sure to make reservations though, it seems to be a very popular spot now. If you're lucky, you'll get my dear friend, Lisa Marie McCreary, as your server. She made the meal an extra delight.
I also got to see John Hirschi, and his beautiful wife, on my way out, and got to personally tell him about my experience. Followed this up with a fun night of "Queen For A Day" at the Iron Horse Pub.
I will be going back quite often, and highly recommend you give it a try as well.
